Chingus, we all have watched dramas that have made us want to watch more of it for several reasons, which leads us to hope for a second season for those dramas. Sometimes it is simply because we loved the characters, the story and would love to see more of it. Sometimes it is because the drama ends with an open ending leading to viewers to think and hope for a conclusion to that. And then come the dramas that just for reasons known to the writer ended abruptly without concluding anything.

:waves: guys!

Dropping by amidst the work. Thank you so much @Sleepy Owl chingu for tagging me as well! The banner I designed looks so cool!

By the way, who'd ever ask for a second season of V.I.P.??? Ha ha.. Yet I voted for it! :joy: And I am super surprised to see Choi Daniel's The Ghost Detective on the list. Yes, i think every viewer asked for a second season for it back then where  my oppa can return as a human again! Thanks a million for including it in the poll. Sweet memories of K-dramas! And I loved seeing Jang Nara unnie in a dark role in Sell Your Haunted House. Would love to see her again!

That's all from me. Can't wait read what other chingus have in their mind. :)

MINE. purely because they denied us a kiss between Suzy Choi and Seo Hyun.... Plus, I have a raging crush on Kim Seo Hyung.

I distinctly remember gasping during this handgrab

Seo Hyun's memory of their time together was shocking because I didn't expect a KDrama to double down on the lesbian storyline!:flushed:

1 - Vagabond

The question remains ... How do you create such an incredible drama, with probably THE best cliffhanger, and then NOT have the 2nd season in the can ready to go? ... I almost threw a chair through my monitor when I found out they hadn't even started talking about a second season - for these reasons, this drama resides at the bottom of my favorites list - give us a 2nd season, and it'll go near the top.

2 - Hotel del Luna

After that heart breaking ending, I don't see how they could craft a story for the 2nd season. However, I loved this drama so much, I hope they try.

3 - Gaus Electronics

The 1st season was hilarious, a 2nd would be more so.

4 - Vincenzo

So many openings for a good 2nd season, and who wouldn't want to see Noona have weekly fits on the +/- thread when the REAL hero of the drama returns ... :glasses:

Korean Krungy - When Inzaghi and his pigeon friends save... | Facebook

5 - Adamas

Simply because I really want to know if short Oppa's twin lived

6 - Mad Dog

I really liked this drama - aircraft crash related whodunit - yes please.  That goes for a 2nd season too. if they can get the original cast back.

7 - Sell Your Haunted House

Y-E-S PLEASE!

Sell Your Haunted House Korean Drama Review (2021) - Korean Lovey

Ji-A needs to "exorcise" In Beom's "blue salt" once and for all

8 - For the "Something Else" tag, I'd offer a 2nd season for Crash Landing On You

Simply put - Gu Seung Jun did NOT die.

There is your second season, centered on Gu Seung Jun and Seo Dan finding/fighting their way back to each other.

- Only 1 person actually says he died (Seri's brother) and he was never in a position to confirm it

- Seo Dan's family was extremely well off. Dan's Mother had already taken a liking to him, if he had been killed defending/protecting her precious daughter she most certainly would've  afforded Gu Seung Jun an extravagant grave site ... yet while we see Dan mourning him ... its never at a grave.

- Gu Seung Jun was used to running/hiding from authorities - he had a small fortune at his disposal.  He clearly had contacts in the right type of circles that got him into North Korea in the first place, certainly with his financial assets, he could arrange a discreet albeit risky exit/medical once he missed his flight to save Dan.

I say he's still alive ... its time for the Noble Rogue & the Ice Queen to shrug off the second lead syndrome and reunite.

*** I’m not really into a S2, remakes, part2s or sequels of any K-dramas but, when my biases are in it, I have no choice but to support them. My reason is because original for me is the best, and no season 2 could surpass the original one. A show has always to end.  And I do understand that some of us wish that there are dramas, which deserve to have a second season! Maybe because there are still so many questions left unanswered. Questions like - How are the characters doing? Was it really the end? Is this all there is to life? Hahaha - It would be a shame to not see a second season come to light because of all these questions.  It's common for K-dramas to only go up to a certain number of episodes. This means many shows only make it to one season, and I noticed that it's unlikely a second installment is created and the single-season format has held up for years. If sequels are to indeed become a mainstay within South Korean television, for me, here are the stories that deserve a second round on the carousel:  :heart2beat:

Scarlet Heart – A happy ending was not in the cards for them, but who’s to say that it won’t happen if there was to be a second season? The ending made many viewers shed tears for the relationship of the main couple. Actually, Lee Jun Ki mentioned before about filming an unreleased ending of this drama where Hae Soo (IU) and Wang So (Lee Jun Ki) meet again in the future, meaning in the real world. But unfortunately when the drama came out, this scene was cut. You can't blame the drama viewers though—knowing that a more desirable ending could've aired. Honestly, although I don't really dig sequels, I’m one of them who are left hanging up to now and holding on somehow for another season. We can only cross our fingers and hope that things all fall into place in the future maybe? You know, you can always hope!

Memories of the Alhambra – I praise this drama for its high-end computer graphics, cinematography, and fast-paced storytelling. However, the drama ended in a way that’s uncertain leaving viewers wondering if Hyun Bin’s character made out alive or not. So, I guess for the next season we would know, huh?

Flower of Evil - The drama was said to be renewed somewhere around mid-2021, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore since we’re now 2023. There are still so many unanswered questions around Do Hyun Su (Lee Jun Ki)!  What happened to his mother? What happened in the first 10 years of his life that he has no memory of? What was the hidden space in the closet for? I wish to see him recovers all his memories!

Hwarang – This is the drama where I discovered BTS V and start adoring him so, I didn't feel that the season 1 is sufficient enough to satisfy me. I would like to wish that hoping they could make another season of the drama with all the same actors, if possible. Who knows, in S2 BTS V’s character won’t be killed off.

Zombie Detective – I would like to know more about Choi Jin Hyuk’s life not being a detective and living in the wild as what the drama showed at the end.

Vincenzo – I noticed that many Korean dramas that span for more 16-17 episodes are not renewed.  This drama had 20 episodes. The first season’s story gives a satisfactory ending and despite, I'm personally happy that many people want Season 2 of this drama to come out. So, fingers crossed…..  Moreover, in Vincenzo Season 2, Hong Cha Young could get married to Vincenzo, (Song Joong Ki) who has been waiting for her for long and finally kisses her at the end of season one. It would be interesting to see how she reacts after knowing that he is still a mafia. Taecyeon was dead but there's always a way. He may be a ghost who follows Vincenzo around all the time. Hahaha -

Crash Landing On You – I wonder why this drama has not made the cut here, huh? It's not on your sample list. I guess you think that the story gave everyone a decent ending already, huh? But, at least, I’m hungry for more details of what happens next to the couple. I want to see Hyunbin defects his home country and finally build a life with Son Ye Jin in the South, maybe? Is Switzerland going to be their new & permanent home? Or will they still continue to meet in secret?  Did they have kids?

It’s OK, That’s Love - The last episode of the drama ended with the good news of Gong Hyo Jin and Jo In Sung. They get married and have a fulfilling life together. It was a happy ending, so many are not excited anymore to see the second part of the drama, huh? But, me, I wish there is!

The Producers – The finale hinted that there’s a blossoming friendship between the leads. Now, how do you end the drama with Kim Soo Hyun and IU in one-frame without a kiss? Will their characters end up together? Will they achieve

success in their careers? Don’t you wish to find out about this, maybe?   :rubchin:

Second seasons? Nope nopity nope!

Nearly half the reason I watch Kdramas over western shows is because they DON'T have second seasons. They have a beginning, middle, and END.

When I love a drama hard, a large part of that love is because a) something important happened that tested the characters to their limits, and b) the characters RESOLVED that, in a way that resonated with a lot with the viewers.

I get it, people love that feeling and want to feel it more. But if you have created a major problem and solved it, then a second season either undoes all the hard work of getting there in the first place (the characters got together against great odds in season 1, so now they have a misunderstanding and break up so you can do it all over again; you un-dead a character whose death was tragic but actually meant something and changed the world; you un-defeat the major baddie, and if you can do that, does anything the characters do really matter?) OR you create a new problem that feels anticlimactic to what happened in the first one. Like, nine times out of ten, it directly undoes all the things I loved about the original. And a 16-hour epilogue showing the characters making googly eyes at each other isn't a plot, either. So whenever I see (usually foreign) articles like, "When will [successful drama] have a second season??" I'm like--never. Please, just no. Plug your ears to the foreign requests, Korea, and keep doing your one season thing.

The only exceptions to me are if a drama isn't that plot-heavy to begin with (when it's all sort of episodic; little stories that don't really build up to anything in particular but the setting is pleasant)--although I tend not to watch many of those anyway. Or, if a clear story with a beginning, middle, and end is planned from the start, and it's very long and needs a couple rounds of filming. (Like Alchemy of Souls, which was all one story. They really didn't *have* to make it two parts, they could have aired it straight through. Also, I did vote for Vagabond because it felt like that was intended, and then part 2 was never created. But that's another reason I don't like season 2--I hate getting halfway through a storyline and finding it was dropped.) Or maybe if each season is a different storyline that all takes place in the same world, like the School series. I mean, they're all about school, but the stories are all completely different and resolved within that season.

Full disclosure, I'm a professional writer and editor, and so I'm always going to be looking first for a well-told story. But different people watch for different things, so if you watch for other reasons and love second seasons, I think we can still be friends. :)

I only voted hot stove league.

I´m not a fan of second seasons in K-dramas. bc usually it loses the momentum.    Crime and thriller dramas are the only ones were second season could work for me.

there has been really disappointing ending but I honestly don´t think that second would have fix that.  We would have had more filler episodes.  :joy:

I don`t want a second season for any dramas. If the story is finished in the first season and they want another season with the same cast but another story, then OK but I don`t ask for it.

Well Chingu, Arthdal Chronicles is finally getting a second season, so we can hope the same to happen for Vagabond. Because it doesn't really make sense for it to end that way without the writers having a second season in their mind :rubchin:

8 - For the "Something Else" tag, I'd offer a 2nd season for Crash Landing On You

Simply put - Gu Seung Jun did NOT die.

There is your second season, centered on Gu Seung Jun and Seo Dan finding/fighting their way back to each other.

Sounds Interesting, I will add this to the poll :piggydance:

Hwarang – This is the drama where I discovered BTS V and start adoring him so, I didn't feel that the season 1 is sufficient enough to satisfy me. I would like to wish that hoping they could make another season of the drama with all the same actors, if possible. Who knows, in S2 BTS V’s character won’t be killed off.

Interestingly, the initial title for this drama was "Hwarang: The Beginning", which they later changed. So by the looks of they did plan it to have more than one season, but later on changed their minds. :eats:

Nearly half the reason I watch Kdramas over western shows is because they DON'T have second seasons. They have a beginning, middle, and END.

The main reason why I started watching Kdramas was because they don't have seasons and the story gets concluded in 16-24 episodes.

The only instance where I actually wish there would a second season for any drama is when they end abruptly without concluding the story. For example Arthdal Chronicles, or Vagabond. In such cases, I will always welcome a second season which can finally bring a closure to the story. :piggydance:

Also since Kdramas normally don't have multiple seasons, sometimes it becomes hard for the writer and showrunners when they plan a second season. Mostly it is compared with the first and the expectations are always high, and at the same time most of the sequels/prequels don't have the same cast.

:joy:

Dramas like Hot Stove League, Extraordinary Attorney, etc are the type of dramas where it is easier for the writer to come up with a second season. In case of Hot Stove League we can show ML trying out a different sport or team just like how the drama ended.

And in case of Extraordinary Attorney, One Dollar Lawyer, we can just have multiple seasons since these dramas usually have several sub-plots. Of course there is a major plot going on, but most of the eps are based on sub-plots, so it becomes a lot more easier for the writer to write.

Dramas that end with a bad ending, nah, I totally agree with you, not very easy to fix it with a second season :wow1:

Legend of Blue Sea should have a Prequel....If only they could set it up in xianxia's setup it would be so cool lol.

That's interesting, now that you mention, I do think the Prequel would be good :rubchin:

I don`t want a second season for any dramas. If the story is finished in the first season and they want another season with the same cast but another story, then OK but I don`t ask for it.

This has been working pretty well actually, take Voice and Romantic Doctor for example. They managed to have most of the cast members reprise their roles, had a good script, and the viewers enjoyed the multiple seasons. Same happened with Taxi Driver, which most probably will have a third season.

Its just that, the timing is not fixed. With most of the seasonal shows, you know that the next season will air the following year. But in these cases, the new seasons can come after 2-3 years. The only good thing those 3 dramas, and most of the dramas following same formula did is that they conclude the plot in current season, and the new season always has a new plot with same characters. :hooray2:

That`s another reason I don`t want seasonal kdramas. With US shows, there are a new season next year, like you said. But we don`t know with kdramas. I really don`t need a second season of Signal for exemple but they announced it and later dropped the idea. I never watched Vagabond but I read the comments that they ended like there is another season. Are they really making another season? I doubt it.  Let say they will produce it. People will forget what was in the first season. :w00t: I know how it is. I start watching crime drama Special Affair Team TEN when they announced the second season. I watched both seasons and I am still `waiting` for the conclusion of the main mystery. Ten years have passed.  For Vagabond have passed just... four? :w00t:

In case of Signal, well, I think they rose the expectations by hinting or evening announcing a second season could come. Every year Signal 2 is thought to air, but it never does. I mean they did end it in a way which left room for a new season, but the announcement made people wait for it more.

They did kinda similar thing with Moon Lovers actually. There were already pics of Lee Joon Ki on the set, and talk about the deleted last scene, which was later confirmed by both Lee Joon Ki and showrunners I believe. Another reason why everyone was eagerly waiting for a second season was the fact that the original C-drama actually had a second season which takes place in the real modern world, and so everyone hoped for a similar kind of drama to come.

As for Vagabond, well, the ending didn't even feel like an ending. They just ended the in between, with no conclusion nothing. Now I don't really know what happened in between because of which they didn't go for a second season, but yeah, I mean too many years have passed since then.

Arthdal Chronicles was the same, and actually that drama's writers are among the best Sageuk writers who were trying their hands on something new. That drama's writers penned the hit Sageuks like Queen Seondeok and Six Flying Dragons. But then very early on it was revealed that they writers wanted this to be a 3 season drama with 18 eps each, but the showrunners decided to go for 18 eps only. The ratings were just average, and they didn't announce a new season. Now that they did, the leads have changed, and it makes sense, because surely the leads back then could have schedule issues now.

Just like Special Affairs Team TEN, something very similar happened with Queen of Mystery. They revealed the main bad guy in the end of season 2, and nothing has happened since then :evilelmo:

As I mentioned before, the likes of Romantic Doctor, Voice, and Taxi Driver have been well received and did very good in ratings in every season was because they didn't leave anything else for the next season. Romantic Doctor and Taxi Driver did such a great job in very naturally explaining the cast change, by showing the previous characters moving somewhere else or something like that. People love good content, and so, they would not see it as Romantic Doctor 3, but more like a new drama with same characters.

So yeah, if they do announce Vagabond, I will watch it. Although I will be honest, I am not that eager for this, since I wasn't that much into drama, but I was still very much disappointed with the way it ended :isannoyed:
