Popular Post partyon
Credit for the beautiful banner : gm4queen Welcome to Part 1 of Confessions of a Drama Addict! It's confession time... cr. leftcoastoppa In part 1 of our confession series, we will confess be open and honest about who our favorite drama characters are. Did you love the villain who was always a step ahead of the police in a kdrama thriller ? Did you admire the heroine in a historical cdrama who made her way up the palace ranks and won the heart of the emperor? Did you applaud the female lead in a Thai lakorn who finally dumped her cheating hubby and his 8 mistresses? Did you swoon over the hot smoldering male boss in the last dorama you watched? Did the "too stupid to live" female lead in an Indian serial make you laugh out loud? The Event Organizers have decided to come clean, and are presenting here one favorite female and one favorite male character each. @partyon Favorite Female Character: Seo Eun Ki in The Innocent Man (played by Moon Chae Won) Spoiler Synopsis: Seo Eun Ki is the hardworking and cold daughter of a business conglomerate. Kang Ma Roo is a man fresh out of jail who gave up on being a doctor after having taken the blame of a murder actually committed by his then girlfriend, Han Jae Hee. Han Jae Hee never repays him for his sacrifice and instead marries Seo Eun Ki's wealthy father. Now Kang Ma Roo leads a life of self-indulgence filled with coldness and rage. In order to start off on his revenge path he approaches Seo Eun Ki on purpose to use her as a tool to take down Han Jae Hee - the woman he still has feelings for despite her betrayal. Why I liked the character? Make no mistake, Seo Eun Ki is a complex character - even unlikeable at times. She has been brought up by her cold and demanding father, always feeling like she is never good enough for him. As he treated her mother poorly, she has a deep sense of mistrust towards all men and dedicates her time to working so that she can take over her dad's business someday. She is unhappy, and treats other people with disdain as a result. When Kang Ma Roo approaches her and starts courting her, she is initially weary but little by little gives in. He sees that she is in truth very sensitive and that her tough exterior is just a front for her insecurities and sense of feeling unloved. After all, deep inside he is the same.... So it's no wonder that she starts to trust and love this man who seems to understand her and accept her 100%. Her demeanor changes and she confesses her love for him. Kang Ma Roo still blinded by his revenge and self-hatred, says some extremely hurtful things to her - breaking her heart. She finds out what Kang Ma Roo's real intentions are/were and that she was just a vessel for his scheme, and it sets the wheels in motion with both Kang Ma Roo and Seo Eun Ki jumping head first into a fire pit of self destruction. Without going into details how the drama unfolds and ends, all I can say that we see Seo Eun Ki fall and stand up again countless times. Her trust is broken more than once, but her resilience to make sense of the situation at hand is commendable. At times she doesn't know who is a friend or a foe. She has to trust her gut feeling instead of what words are uttered to her. She shows tremendous courage despite the heart breaks she has to endure over and over again by almost everyone in her life. In the end, she has to choose if she wants to choose revenge, and destroy her and others lives irreparably, or if she will forgive, heal and move on. More info: https://mydramalist.com/4295-the-innocent-man @partyon Favorite Male Character: Han Kang Ho in Your Honor (played by Yoon Shi Yoon) Spoiler Synopsis: Han Kang Ho is the younger of a set of identical twins. His brother Han Soo Hoo is the smart one who passed the bar exam as the youngest person to become a judge. Han Kang Ho on the contrary is the misfit who gets into trouble from a young age, turning into a criminal. Fresh out of jail he realizes that his older twin brother has disappeared and decides to take over his brother's place as a judge in order to avoid some bad guys. The criminal who was always treated as trash by everyone (including his family) becomes an honorable judge who everyone respects. Why I liked this character? Yoon Shi Yoon plays a set of twins with totally opposite personalities and who hate each other's guts. Han Kang Ho was an athletic and extroverted popular young student growing up but who made some wrong choices and ended up in a downward spiral while in the shadow of his smarter older brother who could never set a foot wrong. Kang Ho felt that their mother favored Soo Hoo and Soo Hoo felt that he was always dragged down by his brother. Talk about complex family dynamics. Once Kang Ho assumes his brother's identity in order to save his own behind, he has absolutely no idea what he is doing. Fortunately for him he has a fresh out of school lawyer who works as his assistant. She is righteous and fair, and he uses her to help him stay undercover. We see a rebellious, angry, misunderstood criminal start opening his eyes to what justice really is, and we see him growing empathy towards other people - including the people who come in and out of his court room. Being an ex-criminal, he can relate to many of them on a much deeper level than his booksmart brother ever could. He shows he is a a humane, warm and fair judge, in the end honestly being a way better judge than his brother ever was. We see Kang Ho grow as a person as he starts being respected for who he is, instead being judged for his past. He gets a second chance with a clean slate, and he also starts valuing himself. His character is all about second chances and letting go of the past, and telling yourself "Yes, I can do this!" More info: https://mydramalist.com/28978-dear-judge @Sleepy Owl Favorite Female Character: Cha Young in Nobody Knows (played by Kim Seo Hyung) Spoiler Synopsis: Cha Young Jin lost her friend who fell victim to a serial killers years ago. In order to catch the serial killer and solve the case she becomes a detective. Years later Young Jin has now developed a special relationship with Eun Ho who is a high school student living downstairs. Eun Ho ends up in an accident. While everyone concludes it to be an accident, Young Jin suspects foul play and starts to investigate. What I liked about the character: Cha Young Jin's best friend was killed by a serial killer. She was partially responsible for it since she didn't pick up her friend's call on the day she got murdered. Also the killer personally called Young Jin using her friend's number to inform her that she was the real target, and he eventually ended up choosing her friend instead. In order to catch the killer and solve the case, Young Jin decides to become a detective. It has been shown several times that Young Jin is still feeling guilty over friend's murder and also is traumatized by it. She has also been looking into the serial murder and compiling information on the same while investigating personally. But despite going through all that, Young Jin has not let her heart grow cold. She is still a very warm person who cares for the people around her. She develops a very special relationship with Eun Ho, a young boy living downstairs. She allowed him to stay in her house whenever he wanted to, and also he has been doing chores for her instead. Thanks to him, Young Jin now has a mini garden in her balcony. The fact that she has had his childhood drawings of her framed and kept in her study already shows how warm hearted person she is. Eun Ho too, who is now a high school student cares about her a lot. But Young Jin is not just a kind and warm person to Eun Ho. Throughout the drama we see her being respected by her fellow detectives, and her juniors always looking upto her. We see her care about the victims' families and be in touch with them. At the same while solving Eun Ho's accident case, she actually gets to meet his two of his school mates, bonds with them and helps them. Cha Young Jin as a detective would also be among my most favorite detectives if not the best detective. Despite going through all that in past and being traumatized by it, she is neither a cold hearted detective, and at the same is not a "Mad Dog" detective who is always hot headed. Cha Young Jin as a detective is shown to be very calm and intelligent. She doesn't just take actions on impulse and so doesn't let her emotions get the best of her. She is also not your typical "Lone Wolf" type detective who would solve cases on her own. we see her rely on her team members as well and also accepts to get help from Eun Ho's homeroom teacher when he offers it. Throughout the drama we see Young Jin struggle, break down, smile, laugh, cry and not let her past get the best of her. This is not something you would see in most of the kdrama detectives, and that is what makes Cha Young Jin special for me. More Info: https://mydramalist.com/35205-nobody-knows @Sleepy Owl Favorite Male Character: Lee Daegil in The Slave Hunters (played by Jang Hyuk) Spoiler Synopsis: Set during the Joseon Era, Slave Hunters is about Lee Daegil who is a very famous Slave Hunter. He along with his other 2 fellow Slave Hunters take up the task of a government runaway slave Tae Ha. While working as Slave Hunter Lee Daegil has also been looking for Un Nyun the woman he loves. What I liked about the Character: Lee Daegil is not your typical Slave Hunter. Unlike others who had to get into the line because of them being born in lower class, he actually belonged to Noble class and lived early years of his life in comfort. He ended up falling in love with a servant working for his family named Un Nyun and they ended up having a forbidden romantic relationship. Things happened, and he ended up losing everything overnight when Un Nyun's brother decides to kill his father and set the house on fire before running away with his sister. Since that fateful day, Lee Daegil decided to become a slave hunter just so that he could find the woman he loved. Lee Daegil is not your typical Sageuk Main Character who are usually honorable and always seek to be on the right path. For most of the slaves out there in the drama, Lee Daegil has been a villain since he tracked them down and brought them back to their cruel masters. But Lee Daegil is also not a single dimensional cruel character who just hunts down runaway slaves. There is a kind and merciful side to his character as well. There have numerous times when he caught a slave, got paid for bringing them back, then he helped them runaway again and sent to the an old acquaintance of his own who would help those slaves live freely with his community in the mountains. He even decided to allow Seol Hwa, a street performer to tag along with them since she wanted to escape that life. While he lived in comfort most of early days and was sort of pampered "Young Master" of the house, thanks to the tough life he led afterwards, Lee Daegil is both very smart and also a great fighter. He fooled 2 very high ranking and experienced military officers on multiple instances in the drama, and was able to fight with them neck to neck despite lacking the experience those 2 guys had. His whole career as Slave Hunter has always had one objective and that was to find the woman he loved. He decides to let things go when he comes to know that she has married the runaway slave he was tasked to catch. But later on when finds himself and his fellow slave hunters caught up in a much bigger political scheme, he decides to protect the people who were there for him. Lee Daegil is the type of character that you cannot always root for and like. There are instances where you find him cruel and evil, but then there are times when you feel sorry for his character, and of course there a lot many times when you actually do root for him. As I mentioned earlier, he is not a typical righteous Sageuk ML, he is just a person who lost his everything and is trying to survive during the turbulent times in the country. Throughout the drama Lee Daegil made me like him, hate him, feel sorry and very sad for him. While you see him being a fierceful fighter without showing any fear to the people fighting him, you see break down and cry in several scenes. This is what makes his character real and interesting for me. You can be a hero for some people, and be villain for many more at the same. You might be a good person deep down, but circumstances make you certain things just so you could survive. That is Lee Daegil for you. More Info: https://mydramalist.com/137-chuno @confusedheart Favorite Female Character: Kim Sam-soon in My Lovely Kim Sam Soon (played by Kim Sun-a) Spoiler Synopsis: Kim Sam Soon, is about a woman who does not meet the beauty standards as she is 'large' but is a very talented baker. After a terrible break up, she gets into a fake relationship with the owner of the restaurant where she works. The two have a rocky start and in between there have been some trials and tribulations for our lovely Sam Soon. However, she remains true to herself and an ever optimistic, doesn't give up and continues to chase her dreams. What I liked about the Character: I think what I like most about her is her being so relatable. She is no beauty queen with an hour glass figure and a flawless skin. She is loud, brash and has her own set of insecurities- her old fashioned name and her 'large' frame. She comes from an ordinary middle class family who is trying to make big in this society we live in, while searching for our one true love. She was cheated on by her jerk of a boyfriend who didn't have any decency and dumped her publicly in a hotel lounge full of people, on Christmas eve. She takes it into her stride and does her best to fulfill her dream of own a confectionery, marrying the man of her dreams. Even when she gets into a fake relationship, she never loses her self-respect and doesn't shy away from kicking the RickRoll'D of our male protagonist. She had always been dignified and didn't let anyone walk all over her, in the name of love. She addresses her insecurities and gets a make-over and gets busy meeting other 'prospective' men after the fake relationship ended rather unceremoniously. There is a certain degree of innocence, naivete in her, vulnerability yet the way she carries herself is commendable. She is a no nonsense, in your face brutally honest person who wears her heart sleeve. But don't be mistaken by her friendly demeanour, she packs mean punch when required. I think it is imperative to have strong female characters in our dramas. Characters who we can relate to, so that we can be inspired by them. The beautiful and talented, Kim Sun-a does a complete justice to her character. Her comic timing and chemistry with Hyun Bin is outstanding. Both have proven their acting mettle over and over again. More Info: https://mydramalist.com/221-my-lovely-sam-soon @confusedheart Favorite Male Character: Min Gi-seo in Thank You (played by Jang Hyuk) Spoiler Synopsis: A very accomplished doctor finds himself lost and troubled after a personal loss. A promise takes him to the beautiful Blue Island where he encounters people who refuse to give up on life no matter how challenging the circumstances are. As he comes to terms with his loss, he is transformed by love. What I liked about the Character: Min Gi-seo is a troubled young man from the city, who is yet to come to terms with a personal loss, finds himself in a village, quite against his wishes. Although he seems to be conflicted and the lines between right and wrong seem blurred, his heart is in the right place and he invariably ends up doing what is required of him. As he navigates through his personal loss and his call of duty, he discovers love and hope. He is transformed by love- he witness is myriad forms- love of a mother and child, love of a grandfather and grandchild and the indomitable spirit of people who never give up , no matter how many curveballs life throws at you. Life is about living each day to the fullest and doing our best. Jang Hyuk once again shows his acting chops. He is just perfect in every scene, every emotion is just rightly portrayed. Although the drama deals with some very serious issues, it fills our heart with hope. Don't miss those eyes. They speak volumes and so unspeakable things to your already weak heart. More info: https://mydramalist.com/1217-thank-you @agenth Favorite Female Character: Jung Geum Ja in Hyena (played by Kim Hye Soo) Spoiler Synopsis: In Hyena we dive into the corporate-legal world of modern day Korea. You think this is just another legal drama, but it's a drama packing with lots of drama, comedy and chemistry. The fun parts do not belittle the real issues people face, but we also focus on a female lawyer being rather contrarian, using tricks and schemes to achieve succcess. She uses not just the law, but also people, and we see her enter Song & Kim, an elite law firm. However, not all is gold there. Coming from a poor background, she achieved the highest echelons of society, but is that enough? What I liked about the Character: Jung Geum Ja is unapologetically herself: she does not conform, even once she joins the new firm that looks polished. It is clear for everyone that she is an outsider, but that is something that the higher-ups use in order to not dirty their hands. She is doing things for herself, without apologising. Such a strong female character is seen on screen as she does not back down from a challenge, and even does questionable things without blinking an eye. I really like how she is portrayed: in bold colors, language and actions. She is quite efficient and creative with her work, which satisfies her clients but may shock her colleagues. This also shows that Jung Geum Ja had other worries than worry about guilt: she is a survivor. This is seen in particular when she is confronted with her past. Instead of cowering, she meets the challenges head on, but along the way she also finds support - and perhaps love. More info: https://mydramalist.com/36297-hyena @agenth Favorite Male Character: Jin Yang Cul in Reborn Rich (played by Lee Sung Min) Spoiler Synopsis: Based on a webtoon, the story of Reborn Rich tells the story of a trusted higher-up employee / assistant of the Chairman's son in modern times being transported into the past, reborn as the youngest grandson of the Chairman of the Soonyang Group. Soonyang Group is a powerful conglomerate behind which stands the charismatic Chairman. He built this company from the first stone, and the grandson knows about it, considering the Chairman wrote an autobiography. Due to knowing the future, the interactions of Grandson (who died in the original timeline) and Chairman change the industry Soonyang thrives in. What I liked about the Character: Usually the Korean dramas I watched depicted the grandfathers in a black-and-white manner: either they are evil and only care about money / social status, which is why they usually ruin the main character's life; or they are super nice that you wish you could adopt such a nice, cute Grandfather into your family. Jin Yang Chul is neither evil incarnate nor a sweet-tempered fool. He really steals the show from the moment he appears on, as the ML focuses on targeting his grandfather and try to worm his way into the grandfather's heart. As a result, we the viewers also see more facets of the daily life of the Chairman of a corporation deeply entrenched into everyday Korean's life. They don't just produce, sell, and network, but also influence major political events and offices. However, you see how the Chairman works hard for his achievements, which are first opposed by his grandson. The antagonistic relationship slowly turns friendly and respectful - one has to wonder: who influences whom? Grandfather has never started as a rich person, so he worked for his accolades, you can see that he started from humble as he doesn't immediately dismiss the youth but listens to them, even when others would dismiss the voices of those that are not seen as experienced. He also goes back to his roots and works on his cars, showing that he has a sentimental side, which is a rare scene. The drama manages to show the beginnings of the Chairman without resorting to flashbacks, simply by tieing together the reborn grandson and grandfather. In the end, the Chairman admits that this grandson is most like him, acknowledging / appreciating the work of the reborn grandson. Wuzetian
@agenth Here's a lil info...I'm too lazy to write...Lol...Dicky Cheung's portrayal is the best Monkey King ever! He created the catch phrase, "Yo! Catching demons/devils, what is there to be afraid of" Sun Wukong, "The Monkey King" or "The Great Sage Equalling Heaven" Sun Wukong (traditional Chinese: 孫悟空; simplified Chinese: 孙悟空; pinyin: Sūn Wùkōng) is one of the fictional main characters of the Chinese novel ‘Journey to the West’. The character, in the West known as the Monkey King, accompanies the Tang monk Xuanzang on his journey to retrieve Buddhist sutras from India. Xuanzang's safety is constantly threatened by supernatural beings, and Sun Wukong often acts as a bodyguard. Sun Wukong was known to have incredible strength, being able to travel high speed, (he could cover 108,000 li in one leap), knowing 72 transformations, which allowed him to transform into various animals and objects. He also knew various spells such as commanding the wind, conjuring protective circles against demons, or freezing humans, demons, and gods alike with one word. In the novel, Sun Wukong and Xuanzang are joined by Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing, both of whom were ordered to accompany the priest to atone for their crimes. The priest's horse is actually a dragon prince who had been defeated by Sun Wukong and tamed by Guan Yin. The group encounters a series of eighty-one tribulations before accomplishing their mission and returning safely to China. The Monkey King should not be confused with the Monkey God Hanuman, the Hindu god. The two appear to be unrelated. Although, Won Bin has been keeping his fans updated through numerous appearances in commercials. If you find time, try to watch his last movie “The Man from Nowhere”. He left a deep impression with his character of Cha Tae Sik in this film. He received much praise and became one of Won Bin's most recognized films. Wonbin looks so good and he never ages. He doesn't look like someone in his 40s. He seems like he's picky on roles because he turned down a lot of offers in the past apparently. Personally, I find it cool that a celebrity at the top of his game can simply decide to press pause on his career either to try a new endeavor, or just wait for the right role to come to him. In Korea's world where artists have to always be onscreen whether it's through film, TV, variety shows, CFs, etc., for fear that fans would forget about them, Won Bin is a rarity. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ @partyon thanks for tagging me here again............ In the samples you posted, I have only watched (2) dramas in there: "My Lovely Samsoon" & "Hyena". Yes, I do agree because Kim Hye Soo’s character in that drama is one of my favorites. She was hilarious and cut throat! My own favorite drama characters, I would say: Park Seo Joon in “What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim” - I’m completely infatuated with his character in this drama. Lee Min Ho in “Faith” & “The King: Eternal Monarch” – I’m not into historical genres but, biased aside, I love his characters in these dramas. He just stole my heart. Actually, I love all his characters in his dramas: “The Heirs”, “Boys over Flowers”, just to name a few……… Im Siwan in “Misaeng” - The perseverance and strength of that guy..just love it! Kang Ha Neul in “When the Camella Blooms” - I like that he is so straightforward and honest about his feelings. He is very dorky but, adorable and sincere. He is a man of action. He is such a sunshine, just positive vibes all the way! And Kang Ha Neul portrays his character so well. Woo Do Hwan in “The King Eternal Monarch” - I have a fascination with dual roles and if they are done well, I'm always really impressed. For me, he did a stand-out job playing these two characters. And I liked how he used a super deep voice-tone for his character in this drama (if you watch his other dramas, I think his tone is slightly higher.) Ji Sung in “Kill Me, Heal Me” – he NAILED it! Hyunbin in “My Lovely Samsoon” - This is the K-drama that put Hyun Bin on the map. After discovering him in this drama, I became a fan. 4 2
rocat
Aigoo! I have to find my shovel… My favourite Kdrama lead characters: I went on to watch many if not all of their dramas/movies, and claimed Gong Yoo as my forever oppa! Pity Yoon Eun Hye had all the trouble with her agency, then faced plagiarism issues, and disappeared from mainstream dramas. Cdrama lead characters I like: ML in Love 020 played by Yang Yang - the perfect boyfriend who knows when to do what Both male and female characters played by Zhang Linghe and Chen Yao in Maiden Holmes - we have an analytical logical RickRoll'D-kicking FL who suffers no fools and an incredibly gallant ML 3 3 1
Gumiho
I know this is cliché.. but I only watch drama if the oppa handsome lol so I see Won Bin is my type.. I mean this is the define of handsome for me. So I decided long ago that he is oppa and all of his drama are my favorite if not handsome even if that drama win baeksang award or the actor is A list actor I would not watch ever. I need butterflies effect to watch drama. I only watch dramas that makes me fall in love in 16 or 20 episodes. I want feelings. Like Hyun Bin oppa. Only by watching his drama tailer I already fall fall and keep falling even before ep 1 of that drama start. Hua hahaha 3 6

Actually most BBC period dramas would rank high on my list. 19 hours ago, Ameera Ali said: ( Deborah most be me & my twin @partyon our animal spirit ) Why is he running only in his underwear? It’s just that he has not appeared in any movies or dramas for many years now. Although, Won Bin has been keeping his fans updated through numerous appearances in commercials. Yeah, he rakes in so much money from his looks alone. @YongZura⁷ @sweetroad @larus @4evrkdrama did you see that Won Bin's RL wife Lee Na Young is going to be Yoongi's first female guest on Suchwita? 8 hours ago, willenette said: Park Seo Joon in “What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim” - I’m completely infatuated with his character in this drama. May I ask why? All I remember was that he was annoyingly narcissistic? Did his character get any better as the drama progressed? 3 hours ago, rocat said: Pity Yoon Eun Hye had all the trouble with her agency, then faced plagiarism issues, and disappeared from mainstream dramas.
