Welcome to Part 2 of Confessions of a Drama Addict!

It's confession time... Again...

In part 2 of our confession series, we will confess be open and honest about our so called guilty pleasure dramas.

Which drama do you love to binge/re-watch, even if it's for the umpteenth time?

Which drama do you turn to when you're feeling sad/bored/lazy/need a boost/for comfort?

Is it a drama you wouldn't normally tell other people about because it's kind of embarrassing or childish - or you've watched it so many times your loved ones think you need an intervention? Do spill the beans!

main-qimg-0c28ef4921c8e6ab0b065f7ca9fc8f

The Event Organizers have decided to come clean, and are presenting here one guilty pleasure drama each.

@partyon Favorite Guilty Pleasure Drama:

Que Sera Sera

Can you say barf drama? This one is one!  This is a drama she will turn to when there are no Thai lakorns with cheating husbands to watch. The story is way twisted and the characters are way flawed (which makes this a drama that you either love or hate), but our chingu loves it and will rewatch it. Even if she needs a barf bag.

@confusedheart Favorite Guilty Pleasure Drama:

My Name is Kim Sam Soon

She hates the ML - he's a jerk! But the heroine is strong and awesome and won't let the rich guy walk all over her, despite his childish and spoiled shenanigans. She kicks his immature behind (figuratively)! Yes, punish that jerk! That's why our chingu loves this drama and will re-watch it time after time again.

@agenth Favorite Guilty Pleasure Drama:

Lovestruck In The City

It features her oppa - enough said! Not even @Sleepy Owl's ardent comments about how the main leads' relationship is toxic can deter our chingu. She will rewatch it and bring it up in every convo. She will even visit its filming locations in Seoul. All for oppa!
(Whom we btw just found out is not her first love. GASP!!!! Lee Min Ho came before him, because Faith is another one of her guilty pleasure dramas).

@Sleepy Owl Favorite Guilty Pleasure Drama:

Dae Jang Geum (Jewel in the Palace)

You guessed it! It's a sageuk. Our maknae loves sageuks more than anything. Except for his Jang Nara noona - she's #1. Dae Jang Geum is the first drama he watched back in 2006, and he only just recently completed a rewatch of it. We have often wondered if Lady Choi  is his first love, because he uses this meme a lot...

Which are your favorite guilty pleasure kdramas/cdramas/Thai lakorns/doramas/Indian serials/telenovelas etc.and why? Confess below!

:evilelmo:

Thank you to @gm4queen for the event banner and to @LeftCoastOppa for the confession meme. :kiss_wink:

East of Eden

It is the drama that represents the beginning of my Kdrama addiction

Wow! This drama came out in 2008 I believe. I have never watched it, but I know that Song Seung Heon is the ML.

Is it a revenge / makjang drama? Have you rewatched it many times?

I notice that I also often go back to the dramas that I watched when I started my kdrama journey. My first kdrama was Full House, and I have definitely rewatched it quite a few times. Today it feels quite old-school but it's still fun to watch using the FF button. I also really liked the Thai version of the drama (like @kokodus). :kiss_wink:

Korean Full House

Thai Full House

Other guilty pleasure dramas that I have rewatched quite a few times would be: BOF, Secret Garden, My Name Is Kim Sam Soon, Coffee Prince, Secret (Love), Innocent Man, Tunnel, Your Honor - to name a few.

I used to binge watch a lot of dramas when I start watching ten years ago. I liked many kdramas but I don`t have a guilty pleasure. I  do not rewatch kdramas. Maybe I should watch old kdramas that I liked but so little time and there are others new kdramas to watch.

my guilty pressure weirdly enough is not crime/thriller drama.  It is Life is Beautiful. it aired in SBS in 2010.  It is family drama with lot of tears and joy.  I have watched it four times.

Ooh, this sounds like a juicy revenge plot! Similar to many Thai lakorns that I watch. I should put it on my watchlist. :loveu:

@maribella @Lmangla @liyahsbutterfly @joccu As revenge drama specialists, have you also watched East of Eden?

Omo! This is extremely surprising, knowing that you are a crime/thriller fan first and foremost. :scream:

It was a weekend drama? Why is specifically this drama one that you love so much?

One of the better weekend dramas I have watched was What's With This Family in 2014-2015, but I have never rewatched it.

Am bad with long dramas - one of the reasons I don't watch dailies. :D

Many awesome old romance dramas. Some of the ones you listed are my guilty pleasure dramas too!

You Are So Beautiful I never completed, and I haven't watched a single Reply series. Which of the Reply series is your favorite? The one with Seo In Guk? :kiss_wink:

@partyon I love Reply 1997 (the one with Seo in guk) and also Reply 1988 but it is still a little hard to watch because of the ending. Why did you not complete You are so beautiful?! It's a nice drama. I love full house too. Both korean and Thai versions.

@partyon  East of eden was really good drama.   you should definitely watch it. It has all the lakorn elements.  but warning it is really long drama.

yeah life is Beautiful was weekend drama. The drama was really realistic. you could feel all kind of emotions. Also it had really good LGBTQ story which is really rare.

@partyon this is a good walk down memory lane. No, I have not watched East of Eden, but I did read Steinbeck's book in my school days.

I don't rewatch the whole series only episodes that I like. I noticed that many are like me, our first few shows are the most memorable. My first was Winter Sonata. Choi Ji Woo was a lot younger and I am quite sure she had her nose done since then. Spoilt her oriental beauty looks. I was not struck in anyway by BYJ's looks but I liked him as the conficted hero.

I love the part when she told him how she grieved over her bf's death, one day he was there and the next he was gone but nothing else changed. It was sad. Just like the old song, I can't remember the title but the lyrics were similar. The birds still sang, nothing changed, don't they know, it's the end of the world? :dissapointed_relieved:

Damo is another one. The acting was excellent, the storyline and background. I am not a fan of Ha Ji Won, that voice needs getting used to. I rewatch the last part when the rebel brother was dying and he said I missed you ...( her real name) and she realised that he was her brother. He was dying from her sword. They died holding hands. :bawling:

Of course, I rewatch scenes from Dae Jang Geum too. The cinematography was brilliant and the heart tugging OST Heart Love GIF

I have not been captured by many popular shows eg. Boys over flowers, the bullying turned me off. Pachinko, didn't even try...

I am quite sure, I 'll not rewatch many dailies, refry my brains? I did check them out when some posters commented on some show.

Now getting ready for another daily.

The End of the World. That’s the old song sung by Skeeter Davis.
Songs from that period are what I listen to on repeat, my guilty pleasures, if it were guilty at all.

My very first Kdrama was Full House - one I watched over and over until there were too many new ones to watch.

Then of course my oppa’s drama, Coffee Prince. I watched it many times over, both FF-ing and for certain memorable episodes.

Then, as I got familiar with K-actors, I started watching dramas for them.

Princess Hours was one where I watched for the FL Yoon Eun-Hye on repeat. There’s also Lee Seung-Gi’s King 2 Hearts.

16 eps were all I could take for one drama, anything more I usually don’t finish. East of Eden was the first to make me break that habit  - it was very good but no rewatching cos it was too long. It somehow was also the turning point of my limit on eps. I became more accepting of longer dramas…

I Love My Family GIF by INTO ACTION

Now that I watch C-dramas, it is imPOSsIBle to watch less than 28-30eps.

BUT!!
I also end the life of the drama on my screen once I find them crummy, even if the actors I like are in it. I have done that for many C-dramas, especially those with Yang Yang - not sure why it’s always him. :P

My drama-watching habits change over time, mostly according to preferences, sometimes due to short-term fangirling or stanning. When time permits, I will go hunt and rewatch favourites but rarely do that nowadays with soooo many new dramas to watch.

I used to re-watch dramas when I was bored but then.... I got lazy and discovered MVs are a good way to remind yourself of a drama that you loved but don't have the energy to re-watch. hahahahah... it is a good shortcut. also a nice way of finding new dramas if you don't feel like watching the full thing.

While I wait for current dramas to end so I can binge, I usually head for one of my 2 guilty pleasures.

Let's Fight Ghost, Ok Taecyeon and Kim SoHyun.

Though some folks picked on their age difference, I didn't find it noticeable at all.  I though they had great chemistry.  This was one of the first kdramas that I watched.

spacer.png

My other go to drama is Healer with Ji ChangWook and Park MinYoung, who is now one of my favorite actresses.  OST "Eternal Love" by Michael Learns to Rock is also my all-time favorite.

spacer.png

I am a hopeless romantic who likes a slow burn love story.  When there is a misunderstanding, I want it to end within one episode.  I love happy endings.

I wish I could rewatch my favourite dramas countless times, but I don't. I replay my favourite scenes to commit them to memory, then live off the high of the memory stored in the drama happiness tank. The drama remains with me and when I finally miss them, maybe after 5 years, I rewatch the drama to fill up the drama happiness tank.

I have only rewatched:

My Mister - once immediately after the main screening. I could go past the second rewatch because this was the most emotionally "destructive" drama ever written. Too much!

A wife's credentials - twice. Exquisite.

Secret Love Affair - jtbc used to stream their old dramas 24/7on their YouTube live for two weeks per drama, so I would say I watched it on loop while I worked on my dissertation in 2020. I also rewatched it four times on my own volition. This is the most perfect and perfectly executed drama ever. Not a hair out of place, perfect dialogue, no useless dialogue and scenes, no tropes, such artistic intelligence!:heart4:

City Hall - Four times. Story, chemistry, laughs.

I keep saying I will rewatch my other favourites, but I know in my heart that may never happen :relaxed:. Why consume that time on a rewatch when I can watch the gazillion CDramas being released weekly? Hihihihi.
