Just wanna make a quick post (might become long as I'm wordy) for those complaining not enough So-Soo time and giving more time to KHN. Some previous post even mentioned director favored KHN and wanted him to get into Hallyu wave. As I'm neither LGK or KHN fan, I would like to point out that it seems like that because (1) both writer and director wanted to follow characters development and their essence according to novel in addition to being true to Korean history as much as possible (2) not enough episodes for WS character development which happened later.  Although I didn't read original novel in Chinese, I read all available scenes and summary in English in addition to watching C-version a few times (especially first 20 episodes as I can't brave myself to cry again and again). 

The writer as well as director did not want Ruoxi (HS) character not being true to her heart when she reciprocates 8th love as she is rightous, sensitive, loyal 21st century girl. Although her love for 8th might not have been as deep and lasting as for 4th, she did love him. People fell in love for different reasons: chemical attraction, admiration, dependent, care, friendship etc. However, in my personal opinion, there are only a few fundamental things needed to have a long lasting relationship: trust, understanding, respect and mutual sacrifices towards each other.

As two people became closer and closer to each other, they're baring themselves to another and all their flaws and bad habits would come up. As time goes by, they get to know each other better and initial chemical attraction, admiration or dependent or whatever reasons that make them fall in love might no longer there or decrease in folds due to changes/ circumstances in life. For example, the guy was handsome, rich and breadwinner whom woman admired and dependent on him so much. Then, he got into accident, lost both of his legs and lost some of his fortunes.  The situation will be reversed and the woman needs to step up for the relationship as well as the guy needs to accept the fact that they both have to be strong and work together. Some of you who are younger might say that relationships built on those materialistic attractions are not real love. However, it is reality of our society and that is why relationships lasting a life time become less and less and more and more divorce/ break-up occurring these days.  With technology advancement, we became more and more self-sufficient and if there is no deep 'trust, understanding, respect and mutual sacrifices' in the relationship, as the initial attraction cools down and we see each other flaws more, we can no longer tolerate each other and the relationship suffers. That is why couples need to communicate right away to strength those 4 things in a relationship and work together to have 'love of a life time'.

In novel and C-version, if you watch carefully you will see Ruxio gave up her love for 8th not because he did not give up the throne for her but because he never trusted her. Yes, she broke up with him as he would not give up the fight for the throne but it was not the end of her love for him. She was very upset and she even somewhat resent 4th for 8th decision (4th is part of race for throne and ultimate winner) during that time (she fell down and hurt her foot in the snow from running, 4th helped her steady while waiting for 13th and what did she do?  She threw snow balls at him angrily and rather sit in the snow than being steadied by him).  She fought with 14th regards to her break up with 8th and later 14th asked her whether it was because of 4th saying that even he noticed that 4th was flirting with her and that 8th would notice even more than him. At that scene, Ruoxi voiced over that 8th never asked her anything about his doubts and he never trusted her love in the relationship.  That is when she decided to take off bangle that 8th gave to her. 

In MLSHR, it is already hard to communicate between HS-WW as being from different era with different personality and mindsets. HS fell in love with WW warm and caring personality while being dependent on him both emotionally and financially.  Although it hurt HS seeing WW turned his back on her, it is very understandable that she could NOT abandon their love as well as would NOT blame Wook for his inability to save her as she believed that WW understood, trusted, respected, loved and cared for her and tried to help her with all his abilities.  We, as viewers, compare WW and WS effort on saving her and we saw that WW was lacking but for HS, she would not and should not compare her lover with WS (who is just a friend). In love or familial relationships, it is not right to compare your loved ones with those who are outside.  I'm glad that HS did not and it shows her personality strength that she is very grounded and put 100% in relationship. However, she could no longer love WW the way she did after she found out he never trusted, understood her feelings and respected her decisions but instead used her.  She lost hope for this love. However, she was not in love with WS yet like WW/ some people thought at this point.  There is closeness, caring, friendship, understanding, respect and gratitude but not romantic love yet. Of course, both HS and WS already have all those 4 elements, their love will be epic and long-lasting when they mutually fall in love!

So, basically this is the essence of novel and character relationships writer and director wanted to follow suit. As someone calculated and pointed out ( & @qwenli & @Gabi Bros discussions), it is similar screen time in C version. 4th had definitely less screen time in first 17 episodes as well as lovey-Dovey time with Ruoxi except him occasionally running into her in the palace. 4th had a lot of time with Ruoxi while 8th had little to none in the later episodes of Cv though some of their scenes together were full with angst. 

I just wish that Kv did not include BA and WE story to make better flow for the drama as well as to give more time for bromances. I know they want to drive hive for the drama through those young actors, and Cv really did pave ways for success of those young actors as well as reinforced popularity of old ones (Nicky & Kelvin) . The fans of those two please do NOT hate me

Jeongjong (Yo’s reign name) probably meant forever. I’m guessing it suits his character because he only has eyes for the throne and wants to imprint his name in history. In the drama, the way that Yo obeyed his mother’s desire for the throne is probably a representation of his reign name – he wants to get something and makes him known.

Gwangjong (So’s reign name) mirrors the many changes and reforms he set out. All those new changes were, in my opinion, brand new and unorthodox at the time but they were undoubtedly great changes and the showcased the great mindset So had. If I am correct, even though Jeongjong became King in history, he also didn’t have a strong support or backing whereas So had a strong support and backing. So’s marriage to Yeon Hwa in history was also undoubtedly most likely for political reasons as Wook’s family was the influential Hwangju family at the time. So yes, So’s marriage to Yeon Hwa was for political means. Even her queen’s name, Daemok, means a big tree or passage which represents her as the strong support to pave the way for So to become the king. So according to history, Wook probably supported So for the throne. I think they did have bromance in history.

The time that So as Gwangjong purged his subjects were ruthless but still, he had good reasons for it but probably he didn’t need to be ruthless. Buddhism shined during his time too. It is also said that in history, after So’s son (king Gyeongjong) died. It was Daejong’s line of descendants that continued Goryeo.

As to how the drama will portray So’s marriage to Yeon Hwa, we’ll just have to wait for more episodes. But guys, I at least feel better that So and Wook were good brothers in history. But I’m loving the evil Wook and the sailing ship of SoSoo. Not that I care about romance (I like the game of thrones more) but everything’s going great.

There wasn't much about Ahnjong or Baek Ah. Although, his posthumous title Ahnjong could also mirror his wish for freedom.

Bangsangssi is an exorcist who banishes evil spirits during Narye (an exorcism ritual meant to expel evil) and funeral services. He wears a mask of gold with four eyes and a bearskin is drapped over his shoulders. His body is clad in a black upper garment and a red lower garment and in his hands he is grasping his lance and brandishing his shield, as he leads the other officials to perform the rite. 

The mask is called the bangsangssi mask and is considered the oldest traditional mask in Korea, passed down from the Silla Dynasty, around the 6th century. Having four eyes, it allowed the exorcist to see and search for evil in all four directions. Like all masks used in exorcism it has an extremely threatening look. 

Other translations of bangsangssi’s name include:

• “he who scrutinizes for evil in many directions” (Bodde 1975: 79-80),
• “one who conjures up visions … Master of Visions, or Imaginator, or Phantasmagoricist” (Boltz 1979: 431)
• “one who sees in all (four) directions” (Childs-Johnson 1995: 89)
• “square-faced exorcist” (Benn 2002: 270)
• “direction (fang)-orienting master; one who orients unwanted spirits in the direction to which they belong” (McCurley 2005:137)

@Adnana: I think the subtext of the moment is that at that precise instant, HS is a girl trying to give one last shot, however fleeting, to her "romance" with WW  I think that if WW had said yes, she would have left with him.  After all, WW and her feelings for him have been her security blanket of sorts since she experienced such disorientation/turmoil right from when she woke up in the past.  So if he had said yes he would leave with her, I think she would've grasped at any chance to escape the palace intrigue and be with someone who had told her he cared for her. 

I do think it was a test of sorts, though, and one she knew he was bound to fail. Her tone when she was pressing him about leaving with her was somewhat aggressive, I thought.  Almost goading, pushing him into answering the way she knew he would - if that makes any sense whatsoever. So ultimately I think she had zero expectations as to his sincerity about leaving with her - but she wanted to give him one last opportunity to prove her wrong.  That he wasn't all about this ambition and that he wants to genuinely be with her, even without a kingship/power to follow.  

Sad really. But understandable. Who wants to admit that a love you thought was real and enduring, actually proves quite flimsy and fleeting?

Yeah, I appreciated this about Hae Su to. I think she's being written a lot more nuanced than she's being directed as an actor. Again, the real problem of the show continues to be that the director doesn't show us her motivation and point of view. I have a theory that fandom is obsessed with the show (not just b/c of gorgeous LJK) but b/c we're desperate to try to understand Hae Su.

Actually, as a long time FF.net user who has requested a few categories before in the past, I know that all it takes is one person to send in a request to FF.net for them to create a category. ^^; So it's not really huge news, sorry, BUT... the possibilities of tons of SHR fanfics IS huge news. lol. Someone had to have requested it for them to create it... which means we should be able to read at least one fanfic for it in the near future!

As for the Tumblr news, like I said, I'll try! ^^

@ratgirlina  I think SO wouldn't hold her into marriage seeing that YH becomes his Queen she may put effort in finding someone to marry her so she can become Queen being that his niece is the first wife and that position go to her.. But I think SO do it just because of his relationship with his brother..
