Son Ye Jin Talks About Moving On From Melodrama/Rom-Com Image In New Film With Hyun Bin [September 18, 2018]

 

Son Ye Jin recently sat down for an interview to talk about her upcoming film “Negotiation” with Hyun Bin...

When Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin were cast in the movie, given their respective reputations as the “melo[drama] queen” and “rom-com king,” many people expected an epic romance story. However, the two characters are in conflict throughout the movie and in fact rarely share screen time.

 

In the interview, Son Ye Jin said, “[The conflict] was one of the things that drew me to the script. There are a lot of actors that come to mind when playing villains, but Hyun Bin is an unexpected choice. I’m glad that they thought out of the box when it came to his casting.”

About Hyun Bin himself, she said, “We related to each other on a lot of levels. That’s why I think filming went well. We didn’t rehearse a lot together because we communicate through monitors in the movie, but we had to get close to each other fast. We met often off-camera and talked about our shared experiences in the industry. There were a lot of similarities.”.......

She mentioned in THE FACT interview (2018-09-18) that TN filming was like a live broadcast, his/her shootings went on at the same time so really couldn’t relax and it seemed like they ate together once during filming (her words).

 

I don’t know who took parts in the reshoots (the replaced actor played an antagonist) and whether HB and/or SYJ had to.  Even before the first production report on August 9 (they also did vogue photoshoot/interview, tv interviews on the same day), there were other things like shooting the movie poster.

Although people around me say I'm open-minded and easygoing, deep down I'm always tense. When I'm working, I'm never relaxed (slack). she’s amazed that HB is always calm even toward the last part of TN filming (she gets really tensed), I can’t find this interview.

As one suddenly looks back in the midst of one’s hectic life, one feels the passing of time and discovers the joy and sorrows that come with it. I have been emotionally ahead of my time since I was young. (I was always quite mature). It was as if I was in my 30s when I was in my 20s, and so now it feels more like I am in my 40s. When I appeared as an elderly Princess Deokhye, somehow I felt even more sympathetic towards her. Everyone experiences the passing of time, it’s part of nature but sad at the same time. Probably only teenagers hope that time can go by quickly.
 

 

Me: their interviews (over the years, way before their collaboration) really show that they have many similarities (their views, hobbies, etc).  I have to gather them together though...

yes they do speak informal now !! The easiest way to tell is in korean , formal speech ends with “yo” a lot while informal doesn’t. I wonder who’s decision it was to drop the formalities first lol. Hyun bin don’t even noona her despite her being older by 8 months so why should Yejin banmal him lol 

In Korea even if you are older by just 1 day, you would still be the unnie/noona or oppa/hyung to the younger person and banmal is used from the younger person to the older person right from start. And if you are really veteran to the younger person, they will simply address you as sunbae nim. 
 

So no banmal is good as far as Binjin is concerned because couples don’t banmal each other! 
If they banmal each other from the start, I don’t think there would be so many Binjin couple fans now because people would dismiss it as a professional working relationship more than anything.

Hi there! 

 

Just wanted to help clarify regarding that TVN interview you’re talking about because I remember when I saw the subbed version, that part wasn’t translated correctly in English. SYJ actually says, “Oh this is supposed to be informal/casual language right now right?” 
 

At about 20 seconds into that interview, regarding the caption in Korean... it says, “반모 (반말모드)...” “BanMo” is short for “banmal (informal/casual language) mode”, which it goes on to say is the concept of the TVN interview, but due to how they’re both so polite and courteous, they mix both banmal (informal) and formal language in the interview. 

 

I think as long time professional actors, the use of formal language is difficult to break from and is seen as the polite way of speaking. I think this works for their advantage though...  It helps to put up a front if they’re hiding their private relationship. However, during the Swoon interviews, they definitely use banmal (casual/informal) a lot of times by saying side comments to each other using banmal as well. I can point some out if people are interested, but yes, in those moments, you can definitely see they’re very comfortable with one another.

@Helena thank you for being BinJin’s historian. Reading your posts is such a delight since they are full of interesting information. I wish admin can pin one of your post about BinJin’s timeline on the top so people stop asking same questions repeatedly.

 

IMO, they are both very professional actor/ actress and fine human being. They have such high moral and standard in work and in life. We shouldn’t question whether they developed feeling while one was still in relationship. This kind of question kept popping up here and there in this forum and I’m tired of reading it. They are smart people, I’m sure HB respects SYJ enough and same with SYJ - she has been protecting her image so well since debut, there is no way they risked everything they built over the years with this. 

 

We love them because we’ve seen them so happy with each other but we also love them because they are very talented & highly respected people. Let’s support them and wish that they will end up together. Let’s not speculate things that may damage BinJin relationship & their reputations because it’s not fair for them.

RJH is a woman’s dream guy and a man’s man in CLoY. Yoon Seri said to RJH many times over, “You always say you’re OK” (when the situation was far from OK). Just when I thought I had enough reasons to admire HB, I saw this in the documentary on the Marines and HB. Omg. Hyun Bin IS RJH. He even speaks in a similar way.

 

 

Thank you @C'est la vie for highlighting that Marines documentary to us. Although quite long (45 mins) and features HB only 3 times, it brought tears when I saw what he went through. It reveals something of HB’s personality, as well as shaped him. SYJ must be impressed too as she mentioned HB being a Marine during the promo interviews.

 

Baeksang Awards may be delayed but not cancelled? Holding it when Covid subsides would be a great celebration.

Baeksang is the most prestigious award for drama. For films, there is also Blue Dragon which is also well recognised other than Baeksang. 

can't wait for this year baeksang too. I watched the 50th Baeksang where My lov* from the sta* OST was sung and the fans were cheering to the performance,  i am imagining CLOY's OST be sung this year with RiRi Couple smiling to it.... SWEET
