What's CNY? :sweatingbullets:

Currently, my Kdrama plate is full. Thanks to the ppl of this thread for all their recommendations. I'm currently watching CLOY (this was not recommended, I've been waiting for it for months), Voice (by @Sushimi), Chocolate (by @Lawyerh). I want to add Doctor Romantic S2 on my list, too :scream:

For all you Chocolate lovers, I just went and read in thread and this caught my eye.  It’s a lovely gesture.  I always liked JSJ.  His wife Lina is a musical theater actress and is currently starring in Sweeney Todd with Cho SeungWoo (aka Hwang ShiMok)

Quote

For the last episode, there will be a cameo by 'CSJH The Grace' Lina. She is the wife of Jang Seung Jo who is Lee Jun. Her character Song Ye Jin is a new fate for LJ.

Chinese New Year.  On the 25Jan this year (follows Lunar Calendar).  It’s big in Korea too which is why a lot of dramas will not air next weekend.

Ok so Crash landing is taking another break next week?!?!?! This is insane. I hope this show gets over by the time I turn 80.

As in this coming weekend? 25/26Jan?  Probably because of Lunar New Year.  Big celebrations.  Hot Stove League isn’t screening either.  Wise call.  Everyone will want to be home having Reunion Dinners and celebrating days after.

I started Ep2 of Dr Romantic 1 because I wanted to see what the backstory was for MinJae...fast forwarded a lot of scenes but the drama comes alive in Doldam (as per S2 as well).  The male lead in S1 is better by far as an actor than Ahn what’s-his-name (S2).  And the female lead (S1) is also better in Doldam (it only took her to Ep2 to weasel her way into my heart...unlike S2 female lead who is still obnoxious in Ep4)... It’s the Doldam magic I tell you.  That fresh country air, warm tones.  Eccentric characters.  Guerrilla doctoring.  I think I am more forgiving of less than realistic medical procedures when the characters have souls and the narrative overrides the medicine.  I am still fast forwarding scenes though in S1 just enough to get the backgrounds of the different characters that have continued into S2.  I wonder why the massive Sumo sized male nurse didn’t continue into S2?  Very handy to break up fights.

Yaaaaaaaayyyy I'm so happy that you are continuing with season 1. YYS is definitely better than AYS is in many different ways. YYS is a oppa material. Hahaha. I don't know why but I just don't like AYS, it's not even his acting, maybe it's his alien like face, idk. I'm just being unreasonable and shallow here. But you know that about me already. I forgot that Kim Min jae used to be in S1. LOL. Apart from the main trio and the Master, everyone and everything else is a blur to me rn. He used to be a nurse iirc. Have you met Yang Se jong's character yet? He is the hidden treasure of this show. I just loved him and his puppy face here.

LOL. Another thing is this show does not have stupid love triangles and such. It's just about doldam and his workers. I felt like it was a class apart from other medical dramas and dramas in general in terms of quality. Anyways keep me updated. Love to read your thoughts about it.

roughly saw some of Dr.R2 cos my sister was watching it. But didn't make me feel want to jump into it. Knowing the rating was crazily high, I was expecting for something extraordinary? But doesnt seems to be the case.

The guy is Ahn Hye Seop btw  I think Kim Min Jae acting is better? So whose the main lead between them?

I am skipping a lot in both so it says a lot about whether it “interests” me or not.  I didn’t skip anything in Life.   I am trying to get Kim SaBu’s backstory as well and why he and the other guy (President? Main antagonist) are at loggerheads.  I just like the eccentric characters.  The Bone Doctor (Orthopedics) intrigues me.  As does the sunny Pollyanna like ER resident.  I am not however anticipating every episode... I could well drop it and wait for it to finish and then binge (fast forwarding bits) - like you I only picked it up to see what the hype was about.  .  I do really like Han SukKyu though?  So if nothing at all I just watch the scenes where he delivers his lines.  His diction and voice inflections are worth it.  I have read that he ad libs a lot of the time which could throw a lot of novice actors/actresses off.  Yoo YeonSeok has it over Ahn Hye Seop (thanks for giving me his name ) when holding his own against a veteran like HSK.  He (YYS) doesn’t seem to flinch and gives as good as he gets from HSK.  I get the feeling AHS is somewhat in awe still and fades a bit into the background.  Yes to MinJae being better.  AHS is the main lead.

O the eye candy doctor?   Yes met him but he hasn’t had much air time yet.  YYS pretty much sucks up all the energy on screen and air time so far.

EDIT - I knew it. YYS is a force to be reckoned with.  He’s a musical theatre man.  Like Cho SeungWoo.  And he played Hedwig (just like CSW)... tall order.  He takes his craft seriously.

@Lmangla My NEET results were out a couple of days back and I thought I should tell you since you've been asking me about my preparations and giving me tips and all. I got a pretty good rank, I guess. 46. I'm happy, my parents are happy and everything is well and good. But there is only one problem. With this rank, I can get a seat anywhere in the country. So now I have to make a choice. I'm bad with making choices. My parents wants me to stay here, but there are many other colleges especially in the north that are topnotch and gives you a pretty high stiphend. It's almost thrice the amount they give here. Plus I guess I'm also ready to live on my own. Atleast I want to try. So that I can finally feel like a adult. LOL. But there are downsides too in going way, for starters, my Hindi is horrible. Safety is a important factor too. Sighhh. Let's see....there is more than enough time to think. Counselling will not start until March. But I probably will go crazy trying to make a decision here. Sighhh.

congrats @kokodus!!!! that must be such a relief. I hope that you make whatever decision is the best for you. I guess I can only say that go with where your heart leads you. sometimes we tend to think of very practical things and then later, we feel like we missed out in life -- the typical desi problem. (and later, they make their kids fulfill their dreams because they couldn't!). so yea, you want to be able to enjoy your studies as well as this time as a student because you won't get it back. I think if you want to move but are worried about safety and language, pick a place that has a happy balance. so somewhere like a big city that is relatively safe but you can also survive on bad hindi! but if you feel more comfortable here, then you can pick someplace within the state or the next one over! this means you are close enough to hop on a train and come over and still be able to mange with our language! that too would be an adventure as well!

Thank you so much @Lmangla @LSGLMH_88 @stroppyse

I can understand why my parents do not want me to go away. what's with many students deciding to suicide because they can't handle pressure. But I know I'm not that weak minded. I would discontinue my course if I have to, I want to live a very long life. LOL. And with all the protests and attacks going on some of the states, my parents have been veto-ing all the major metro cities. Sighhh. PG's life are stressful, they have so much work to do, and the professors just love to torture them. If I stay here atleast I'll have support from my friends and family. when I get back home after a long stressful day atleast my mom will be home and make me something to eat. Ahhhh the food. I'll miss my mom's food. I don't know whether I can survive on roti and sabji. I'm a idli sambhar girl. LOL.

I can't make a decision right now. I need time. I need all the time in the world.

It's just the fear of unknown. I know I can do it. I can be independent. I can live on my own. Right?

@LSGLMH_88 @Lmangla My spoken Hindi is terrible. I can understand it very well thanks to all the Bollywood movies and soaps I grew up watching. Lol. But I have not had many chance to interact with anyone in Hindi till now. But I guess it shouldn't be that much of a problem, right? In a month or two I should be able to talk well.

@kokodus ~ even my spoken hindi is bad; I can understand enough to watch tv and make passable conversation but in terms of grammar, it is actually not very correct. hahahah.. if you put your mind to it, then yes, you can adjust and adapt. however, there are people who struggle with relocation. and I can totally understand your parents if they are anything like mine (glued to the news and then chatting endlessly about it all). especially in the current political time, I can understand why they might worry.

like I said earlier, a good compromise would be to move to a uni in one of the sister states  (am assuming this is an option since your score is great and we have so many institutions here as well). this means you get the experience of moving out but you are still in the deccan. you can still survive on tamil and be able to pick up a sister language in no time because we are all from the same language family. plus, you can still get your idli and sambhar!!! so you get the experience of moving away from home without going into too much culture shock. even if you move to a uni within the state (another city), you will still get the experience you want -- learning to be independent and making decisions. so it is not necessary that you have to move far to be independent. even if are you 4-5 hours away living away from home, there will be both challenges as well as fun and growing up! it will still be an entertaining memorable experience.

@LSGLMH_88 @mouse007

Is Jiu Chen another Ye Hua??? I have been considering watching L&D since the trailer first appeared but like @angelangie I am having difficulty to overlook Chang Chen's hairdo as Jiu Chen....... Ye Hua sets the sky high bar as an ultimate hot god with his silky keratin treated hair and fiery hot lover that made me hard to move on to another god....B)

forgot to ask but do you have lots of options to choose or is it a few institutions @kokodus? one of my distant relatives was doing some super, super specialization and it was so specialized that there were only 4 places available. she ended up choosing the one in the neighbouring state because the others were too far for her husband and kids to pop over every few months. (she was married and already working as a specialist doctor in her field; he was very sweet and stayed back to watch the kids while continuing his work; he is also a doctor and was working as a prof in a teaching hospital)

in terms of relocation and feelings -- there are 3 stages. note that stage 1 and 2 can change in terms of order.

stage 1 - everything is amazing and you LOVE it.

stage 2 - you miss home and everything ANNNOYS you. even might veer off to strong dislike and considering moving back. (some do at this stage)

stage 3 - a compromise; you are no longer in either extreme and have settled into a pattern. you feel more or less at home.

it takes about 6 weeks minimum to settle into a new place. for some folks, it can take up to a year to really settle into a pattern. depends on how your adaptable skills are as well as whether you face lots of practical moving challenges.

in my experience, there are some places you just don't gel with. I have learned to adjust and adapt, made friends and found things to appreciate in the place but it never truly felt like home. difficult to tell what it is but I was always waiting for the date when I could finally mark the end of that chapter. in other places, I felt at home and even years later, I miss those times and experiences. if I was to go back, I would instantly be filled with nostalgia and a sense of homecoming. so it is not whether the place is good or bad or about the people but just something hard to describe where some places just suit you more. I strongly believe that and have experienced that.
