Faded out after 1-2 episodes while trying out the rest. Indian movies, yes have become too formulaic and lack genuineness. CLOY I feel mainly worked because of HB and SYJ. If u look at it objectively, it has its weaknesses in the script. Anyone who is new to K dramas/ not a sucker for romance / fantasy actually get bored of CLOY after 1-2 episodes mainly due to the NK Setting initially. My journey to CLOY is a funny one. I was never really interested in Asian dramas even though my close friends were into Winter Sonata, Coffee Prince, Meteor Garden, etc. There were times I was this close/tempted to watching Asian dramas because I always feel left out when they discuss the prior night's episode. But I never fully gave in. We are a heavy Netflix viewer at home, and so I've seen previews/descriptions of CLOY back in January/February but as always, I was not interested in checking it out seeing as it was a Korean drama. Over dinner in March, a friend of ours implored us to at least watch the first episode - if we like it, then we can continue watching. If not, then we can stop. She warned us though that it is a show we have to fully give attention to, as we have to rely on subtitles to understand, so it's not something I can watch on background while doing other stuff (like I did with Ozark). So I watched the first episode one night with my husband, and was easily confused in the first few scenes, because I had no idea who HB and/or SYJ were - and there were many characters introduced in the first episode - so it was hard for me to follow who were the lead actors and who the other ones were, etc. My husband predictably fell asleep midway during show while I soldiered on. So the funny thing was - as you know, RJH had his soldier hat/helmet/cap on when he first met YSR, so it was hard for me to see his full face and recognize him. Plus, like I said above, I had no idea he will be the lead guy. And so towards the end, when he snatched YSR away as Cho Cheol Gang's car was approaching, he didn't have his cap on anymore and had his hair exposed. This was where the part I got totally confused because I was like "Now there's a DIFFERENT guy???" I had no idea he was the one and the same RJH. So I ended up watching the 2nd episode, alone, because it piqued my curiosity enough, but was not fully sold on it yet. I would say I got hooked after the 2nd episode because the pacing of the show improved, and at least for me, was pretty unpredictable (i.e. I predicted YSR would hide in the house when Pyo Chi Su arrived in the morning, but was pleasantly surprised she confidently showed herself to him. I also didn't predict that she would be exposed to the whole village and CCG as early as the 2nd episode). My husband asked me if the 2nd episode was better than the first, and I told him, actually, yes, the 2nd episode ended up being better. So we watched together from that point onward. Looking back, I think the first episode paced itself the way that it did so it can grab the attention of the viewer, but not necessarily to set up the story. I noticed the first episode had a lot of action compared to the episodes that followed it. I was expecting a more action oriented story, but it settled down into the YSR-RJH love story shortly thereafter. 15 14

I knew about CLOY as I saw the advertisements on Netflix. I just didn't realize what the show was about. I was too obsessed with Parasite and was rooting for the movie during Oscars. Basically I was in Oscars/award season mode then lol. So I was mainly focus on that movie in terms of Korean movie. I hadn't really watched kdramas. I watch more Korean movies. My friends had briefly talked about the show before in February and had said the two actors on Parasite were in it - briefly mentioned about the leads' chemistry. They even told me that I should watch the show . Of course, February I had other stressful things happen like figuring out if I should go on my trip or not due to covid. That was why everything came into place in March when the pandemic was officially announced and thus myself and a lot of people were temporarily laid off. I remembered about the show so I watched the trailer and briefly looked it up. I then message my friend and was like why didn't you tell me Son Ye Jin is in this! I would have watched the show immediately (only had seen SYJ in Classic and AMTR.. however I would never forget SYJ lol) They got excited I was finally going to watch it and told me that I will soon join them into shipping HB and SYJ I think it only took me one episode for that to happen I finish the show in 2-3 days. I cried too much thanks to them lol.. Then I immediately started a marathon catching up on their projects - even watched CLOY few more times lol - actually I kept watching certain episodes again and again . My friends just stayed in CLOY land. They couldn't attempt watching them with other actors lol. Thus, I finally joined here late May.. My friends somehow are normal as they aren't here Sigh.. anyways why I had to join the forum because they wouldn't engage more in my conversations about HB and SYJ lol.. Also it became like a one side conversation where I was talking about one of their movies and shows - of course they hadn't seen so they couldnt talk more about it with me lol. They didnt even watch The Negotiation. They watched all their interviews and some fan videos though lol.. 4 12 8 2 1
Popular Post celest1al
This Twitter thread made me laugh! "Yoon Seri looking at Ri Jeong Hyeok's lips; a thread literally no one asked for" I didn't know this was a thread that I needed. LOL. Also, Yoon Seri or Yejin? I'm sure it wasn't in the script to stare at his lips in most of these scenes... Yejin be improvising without even realizing it... Her eyes keep gravitating towards his lips! 3 31 4

Chibi8535
@Riritobinjin and @binyejishared lil tidbits on indian movies/ bollywood, so i’m guessing there is quite a few Indians here, or atleast familiar with the culture and our history... Since many are sharing their ‘CLOY journey’...i’ll add my 2 cents (without naming names) The only reason CLOY hasn’t blown up like crazy here is because not many consume k-entertainment, even if it’s on netflix. Reading up on the history of Korean peninsula post WW2...they share quite a similar fate as us, in the 50s. without getting too political, they faced partition like us, at the cost of ‘sovreignty’, under the influence of ‘Presence of a foreign nation’. People of a common background were brutally separated. Borders in the Indian subcontinent is rife with tension, just like the Korean DMZ. Our relationship (not diplomatic but what we citizens feel for our brothers across the border) is often the SAME wistful nostalgia as the Koreans. We dream of becoming ‘one’ someday, but also know its too good to be true. Just like Seri and Captain Ri, families from one end crossed over to the other, during partition. Our cross-border marriages are ‘frowned upon’ and not common at all. The more ‘prosperous nation’ due to commonplace media perception, thinks of the ‘land beyond the border’ as ‘unwelcoming’, ‘cold, strict, and dogmatic’ whereas they are SOME OF THE WARMEST people at heart. We confuse politics with people.... and finally, There is an unspoken satisfaction whenever the English cricket team loses to either of our teams; just like that football scene in CLOY, where the boys were cheering for S.korea to defeat Japan! CLOY is a series that has a universality....afterall ‘love knows no boundaries’....and it would resonate INCREDIBLY WELL with our audience here, because of our common background, if only more people watched it 6 7 2

Popular Post celest1al
I found another thread that brought back CLOY memories and made my heart flutter... all the times that RJH remembered what YSR said. It reminded me of how RJH and HB are alike in that way... there was an old HB interview where he talks about how he's not that romantic but he tends to remember things that his loved one says even in passing. I remember I provided my version of the translations in a previous post that I linked to below: Interviewer: Your character in Secret Garden, expresses his romance for the female character in his own unique way. So can you share with us... what is the most romantic thing you've ever done for your loved one? HB: No, I haven't done anything particularly special... But if she has an interest or wants something...even if she says it in passing, I'll try to keep it in mind. And when there's a special occasion, I tend to remember those things and gift it to her. Ahhh HB... keep being attentive and remembering the words of your "close friend"... (Can you tell I'm missing CLOY and BinJin LOL) 5 26 2

And it doesn't stop there, BinJin continue to nourish their shipper children by feeding us (DIRECTLY FROM THEM) with crumbs every now and then. Popular Post Peony
I think these two really communicates just by looking at each other and/or from their hearts! I remember in the Kakao talk when the mc said: "Why (Ye Jin) are you speaking in such a sweet voice?" Then SHE ANSWERED " So i can be beautiful". and Binnie bit his lips and said " Am i the only one uncomfortable here?" When they flirt, my heart flutters and this is the effect of BinJin in the Fandom. Every look from HB is very meaningful . Re-watching CLOY in a 65" screen, applying what i was trained for, you can see clearly that HB's adams apple moves (swallowing act) everytime he needs to stare at a crying SYJ! I compared it to existing romance K drama playing now and i cannot see anything. This is what i have been doing ever since SOOMPI was cut out from my screen! I am also very proud that the Kissing scenes in CLOY are "Class" by itself. It fits the emotions being displayed and nothing mechanical . Really, watch it! 19 4 9

Here's a direct link for Spin Kick: http://www.gooddrama.to/korean-movie/spin-kick Link for Hyun Bin (with access to other dramas and movies): www.gooddrama.to/actor/361_hyun-bin If I come across an easily accessible Non Stop 4, I'll let you know. 1 4
