That Kakao post is inaccurate. The left side is not all SYJ as you can see the Korean characters are different for the first half (HB) and second half (SYJ).

Sometimes, there's truly a benefit to keeping relationships private in showbusiness. I'm in LA & to see the constant paparazzi shots of celebrity couples walking their dogs, exercising, grocery shopping ( everybody's doing the same things during shelter-in-place) makes me feel sad because these people do not get a break from public scrutiny.

 

S Korea has a conservative society so BinJin choosing to keep it private is actually refreshing. We were actually spoiled because they gave us so many images of them together from TN & CLoY.  And that CLoY press conference & junkets with different outlets, gave us HB & SYJ laughing off dating rumors with neither a confirmation or denial - again, both of them keeping their relationship private. But , as we all know, they're only human so whatever they feel for each other still shows in how they are with each other ... they really have fun together, in their own pink bubble of love!  So, SYJ, keep doing your ninja moves & HB, keep up the denials  - will patiently wait when both of you are ready to tell the whole world!

I don’t think SYJ has a domineering personality. She has a strong personality yes, due to her confidence and ability to express her mind freely. She is intelligent, funny and articulate. But this confidence was built throughout her career, she used to be very shy and unable to express her emotions. That’s why she decided to become an actress as she could learn to express her emotions through acting (she mentioned this during master of the house episode and Swoon couch interview).

 

The master in the house episodes display her personality further. Even though she was very competitive, she was also very caring, humble and considerate towards the casts. She looked after them, went through considerable amount of effort to make their day perfect, bought cake for their first anniversary, prepared food and games for them etc. She refused to be called a master as she thought she was unworthy of being called that, she wanted them to call her by her name instead. She also asked them to prepare some lessons for her in their areas of expertise, she told them she was an imperfect human being who could also learn from them. 

 

Although I haven’t been a long time fan of HB (only discovered OTP through Cloy), he mentioned in interviews some things he found “attractive” in SYJ. 

 

1) At TN promo interview he said he liked what he discovered about SYJ:

-she has a bubbly and bright personality

- her eye smile

-she is a grateful person

 

2) During TVN Cloy promo, HB was asked what he found attractive about YSR character, he said that she freely speaks her mind. And when he was asked how much SYJ resembles YSR, he said 70% because she speaks her mind freely but not as abrasive as YSR. He also said he liked that SYJ had wonderful ideas. Later on in the year during Cloy press conference, he actually said SYJ resembles YSR almost 100% and he meant this as a compliment because SYJ smiled after he said that.  He mentioned afterwards that SYJ innately has different sides that were rarely shown to the public, and wanted her to act in a role that was bright to showcase those sides of her. YSR’s role was perfect for her. 

 

So, I believe HB finds SYJ’s strong personality ie her confidence and the way she expresses herself (along with other sides of her of course) really attractive. He is not intimidated by her. As we can see through their interactions, SYJ’s personality brings out the best in HB. He is more relaxed, confident, funny and happy when he’s with her.

I agree! There is a saying “opposites do attract”. That’s why BinJin compliment each other well! 

SYJ admited in “Compliment Me” that she is a blessed person when being given the title MeloQueen.

 

SYJ is indeed a very blessed person. She has so many positive personalities that we hardly can find in just one human being.

 

I guess she chose the below compliment because it is quite close to her real life characters not because she thought it was written by HB (she knows well that HB is not so expressive and is a man of few words)

HB needs a strong woman and a decision maker as his life time partner. And he can find these traits in SYJ. HB is not emotionaly strong while SYJ is.

He always has to ask for his parents permission which prevents him to make his own decisions (afraid of being punished for wrong decisions)

A Taiwanese reporter supports this points of view when he saw BinJin’s interactions at presscon backstages where HB was afraid if he made something wrong.

 

HB is not emotional strong while SYJ is

I watched an older interview with HB last week (can't remember where I saw it otherwise I'd post it here) and I was so surprised when he talked about how strict his parents and particularly his father was growing up and how much they hated him pursing acting. Like his dad actually beat him and wore him down. But I'm totally impressed with how much he stood up for his career choice and did not back down. I hope they are more understanding now that he has achieved the success level he has. But to your point, I can definitely see him being attracted to a confident and bright spirit given the kind of upbringing he had. Reminds me of myself and my siblings. We had totally strict parents and all chose partners that were opposite of that lol

SYJ said women are fragile and needs an emotionally strong man because women get hurt over trivial things, which is why her ideal man is the pianist who took good care of his wife. She said that when dating men care for you and then when you get married they just send you off in a taxi hahaha.

I think YJ is strong but I also think she's soft. At Negotiation press conference HB said he discovered she was "soonsoo" "pure, innocent"

with bright energy so I think he was attracted to her soft and strong qualities and YJ was attracted to HB's manly charisma and sweetness, his "cutie-pie-ness".

It was nice being out and about in this sunny (Vancouver BC) and glorious Qn Victoria holiday. Lots of people, families and couple enjoying the sun and food shops while observing SD rule. Was wishing I would see BinJin among the happy crowd.Lol.

 

Wish that BinJin, upon  announcing their wedding, would invite a number of shippers and a guest each to witness their wedding, never  mind the reception. Or even 5 each of their most loyal fans, just to return the favour. It would be a very nice gesture of fan appreciation.

 

Binnie / Jinnie, if you're lurking, pleas take note.

 

PS : Watched on YT a 10m video of HB walking from airport arrival area to his car. Lots of fans were there to greet and give him welcome gifts, even cup of coffee. He was happy with the reception and walked normally to allow fans to take pictures and videos, even bowing his head several times. I suppose his team at Vast would send thank you letters signed by HB to those fans who provided return address with their gifts?

Hi, @SHpectator! Nice to meet you! 

 

      First off, thanks guys for all the warm welcome, you guys are so friendly here!   Thank you for your question! Speaking from a loyal HB fan perspective, I'm gonna try to break down the many reasons why I think the thing that draws HB to SYJ like a magnet and why SYJ stood out to me among all of his other female co-stars. I'll back it up with the evidence I know from my HB bank of knowledge and getting to know SYJ post CLOY. 

 

You are right, if SYJ was just another pretty face, HB could have easily had his pick of the litter long ago. They both have consistently mentioned in multiple interviews, what they both look for in a partner goes so deep beyond the superficial surface. So here is my attempt at digging to the core of why I think HB is so intensely drawn to SYJ beyond her obvious outside beauty: 

 

1) HB and SYJ both share such a passion and integrity for their acting craft. These are two highly seasoned, consummate professionals who truly value their work and are consistently dedicated to their art.

Evidence: I gathered this from listening/watching their BTS discussions on how to act out the script on both CLOY and TN, they are always exchanging and sharing ideas with each other on how to best bring the script to life and I have so much respect for the hard work and effort they always put into each character they play. The products really do show. These are two A-listers at the top of their game and popularity who could have easily rested on their past laurels to carry a show but yet they keep striving to be the best at what they do and produce the best results they can for their fans. With each new project, they constantly rebuild themselves into some new which is super admirable and inspiring. This is why regardless of any of the ratings/commercial success, I have always followed HB's works through the years faithfully because I recognized early on that he has such integrity and love for what he does as an actor. He never takes himself or his popularity too seriously. It has always been about the work for him and the same goes for SYJ from what I’ve seen. He has said that he always wants to be remembered as an actor first and foremost rather than his looks and that popularity while it’s sweet when you have it, you also need to learn how to let it go so you can move onto your next goal. This is why at the height of his massive Secret Garden success, he was willing to leave it all behind him to voluntarily enlist as a Marine in the toughest branch of the military for his MS (so hardcore/badass!). I’ve always admired this very mature outlook he has on fame. I recognized that same passion immediately too from SYJ. They have consistently stated in past interviews that they want to be remembered not for their good looks (well duh) but for the characters that they bring to life. I think this shared passion was probably their first main point of attraction. Kindred, passionate souls.

 

2) HB and SYJ are both incredibly humble. 

Evidence: Despite their countless accolades, successes, and acclaims, neither of them lets it get to their head. They are both such well grounded, down-to-earth megastars. They remain humble and even shy to hear their compliments which is so adorable and endearing that they have both managed to stay so true to themselves despite their massive fame spanning nearly 2 decades. I also think this is why we as BinJin shippers have to be so anxiously patient about their probable announcement because they did not want to detract attention away from CLOY standing on its own awesome merit. They want the work to shine on its own. Hence, we have to keep waiting!

 

3) HB and SYJ are both very intelligent, thoughtful, kind, and loyal. 

Evidence: Just listen to the way they thoughtfully answer most of the interview questions about their work, they always have such a unique perspective on the characters/scripts that they choose and seem to be very creative in the ways that they interpret their characters. Though HB is mostly quiet and says few words, you can tell how eloquent and well-spoken he is when he does talk about his projects. SYJ is the same way, she is so articulate and intelligent when she speaks. Their intelligence is also evident in the way they have carefully managed their careers to be scandal-free and respectable for so long. I also notice their thoughtfulness in how they treat others around them including their cast and crew. Tons of co-stars rave about how thoughtful both of them are on set. They are both so respected and adored by their colleagues because they are both very thoughtful and take good care of others. I read in an interview of a co-star who worked with HB in his criminally underrated, brilliant show "Friend, Our Legend," that the co-star did not have any money to contribute to a friend's funeral because this was his first show debut, so HB lent him money and helped him practice his lines. Even the director got mad at the co-star for not letting HB rest as he was the lead star of the show but the co-star stated that HB would help him anyways. SYJ cooks for her friends and always shares her ideas on set to help other actors. They both were one of the first stars to donate money for the COVID epidemic. HB even requested that his donation remain anonymous because he didn't want to make it about him. I mean how thoughtful is that? This is yet another reason why I think they want to lay low right now out of respect for this pandemic. As far as loyalty, I mean they have both kept their same managers for their entire careers. HB started VAST with his manager. SYJ still goes to the same hairdresser for 17 years. Clearly, they build very trusting relationships with those they work with and they stick with them. This loyalty and thoughtfulness will serve them well in their relationship. Great minds think alike. 

 

4) HB and SYJ are both so witty and funny in their own way. They get each other's humor and truly make each other laugh. 

 Evidence: As many of you who might have just discovered HB through CLOY have noticed, while HB might be an introvert who is shy and reserved, but man when he busts out his wit, dark humor and sarcasm, he is a friggin' RIOT! He is incredibly witty and very subtly hilarious if you truly listen to the comebacks/answers he gives to questions. But for those who don't know him well or haven't followed him for long, these moments might be easy to miss if you blink but you can see that SYJ truly does get his humor and appreciates him for who he is. Her humor is more outright, expressive, and goofy while his is more low-key, subtle, and dark but when you combine them, boy, they really are a HOOT! I think this is why HB seems to have so much fun and is giggly around SYJ because she really gets him and brings that witty, funny side out of him! Like we've said, SYJ knows how to break down his serious, reserved wall and Binnie turns into a giddy little kid around her so we get to see this silly side to him that he rarely shows. Her wall-breaking skills are truly impressive. This is the very definition of them bringing out the best in each other. I watched HB's Secret Garden DVD commentary with HJW and while they are both very good friends in real life (HJW stated that HB is her best male actor friend and they text each other and are soju drinking buds), you can see that HB is still not super giggly or silly around HJW even if he is good friends with her. In the videos, HJW would crack jokes and HB would just say "Really?" and smile but not really bust out his own humor back while HJW laughed at her own jokes. But with SYJ, you would think that HB will wear a hole in his dimples from smiling so hard even at the simplest things she says/does.  I've only seen HB bust out his comedy act with SYJ. (Please note that I love HJW too and have total respect for her, not trying to start a comparison shipping war or anything, just simply stating my observations from the videos!) 

 

5) HB and SYJ challenge each other. They are both very strong-willed and ambitious. 

Evidence: Though a man of few words, HB exudes quiet confidence and will speak up when he thinks it’s important. Some might mistaken his shyness and quiet, reserved manner as being a “pushover” or "weak" but I don’t think that’s accurate. He is actually quite self-assured but he allows others around him to express themselves while he sits back and actively listens. HB is seriously one of the most attentive listeners I’ve ever seen. If you notice during interviews, he is usually always concentrating on what others are saying but the only difference with SYJ that “gives him away” is that he attentively listens WHILE staring deeply at her at the same time LOL. SYJ’s strong personality encourages HB to express himself more and it seems like he is always deeply pondering the value of her words (OMG can you just imagine their deep, philosophical life conversations one-on-one with each other? They would be so in sync with one being expressive while the other actively listens). Just like Captain Ri, HB always takes what SYJ says into consideration and acts on what she says/desires. 

    Yes, SYJ is quite competitive but HB self-proclaimed himself during an interview once (I believe one it was one of his first interviews after military duty) as a “perfectionist” where he strives hard to make everything perfect. The interviewer responded “Man, your future wife is going to have a difficult time!” to which HB cheekily responds, “Be ready (future wife)!” Guess who is ready to rise to his standards of perfection? SYJ! 

  SYJ is a certified queen bee who is self-assured, holds her own self to super high standards, and is not afraid to express herself and go after what she wants. So I would not call SYJ domineering more so that she is very secure with herself, her intelligence, and her worth. And this confidence and strength is exactly what HB loves about SYJ. She is not afraid to speak her mind BUT in a tactful way and has a bright and cheery personality that draws him and and brings out his own lighter side. 

  They are both super ambitious in going after what they want and challenge the best out of each other. I mean just look at how savvy they are in their business real estate investments and HB being CEO of VAST Ent. Someone who is not confident would not be able to do that successfully. The beauty with our BinJin pairing though is that neither are intimidated by the other’s strengths nor do they try to change each other. They simply accept the other for who they are, cheer each other on, and complete each other's imperfections. Her strong expressiveness is matched by his patient listening. 

 

Phew! Dang, I could seriously write a whole dissertation on “The Reasons Why BinJin Are the Perfect Match and Here are the Bazillion Reasons Why Backed Up With Irrefutable Evidence.” Feel feel to peer review my dissertation.  I seriously wish I could write less about them but for BinNJin, the evidence is endless!

Thank you, @RiRiGaGa. My heart is screaming YES! to everything that you pointed out. These are the very reasons why I fell for this couple. The amount of time I spent researching about them and scouring for HB/SYJ materials since January led me to the conclusion that they are worth shipping. I have never been affected by whatever doubts thrown at this ship because IMO their foundation for liking each other and being together weren't superficial. Now, I can rest my migraine troubled brain. I will have these in my dreams.

Yesss! We BinJin shippers do not let stormy winds knock over our sails because we know the foundation our pair has built is so strong, pure, and genuine. Remember that scene in CLOY when HB/Captain Ri was drunk and said he wanted to confess something to SYJ/Seri and she initially got all excited and asked "You want to say I'm pretty?" and he shakes his head "No" and she looked disappointed. But then he later says "I want to see you grow old, you'll still be pretty, right?" I took that as him saying "I know that your soul will still be pretty even as you get wrinkles and have gray hair" because he loved her for so much more than how she looks and time would not change that. I feel that HB has this same sentiment towards SYJ. Theirs is such a solid, steady, honest foundation that won't be tarnished with time, negativity, or doubt, because they see each other's soul! Ahhh so happy to see that others feel the exact same about them!!

I know some don't see it this way, but for a man who has been SO successful and, well it's just the truth, worshipped by so many women, what is it about SYJ that made HB fall all over himself? She is giggly and obviously flattered and interested, but HB seems downright obsessed with her during TN promos (in my view)? Has he ever behaved that way before with any other gf or leading lady???

 

I've said this before, but my feeling is that he had to be like this to win SYJ over. She is around popular actors a lot, so she knows how many beautiful and intelligent "options" they have between actresses, models, singers, and fans. Did he realize he had to prove himself? Or was he just a fool for love in a way he couldn't control?

 

It doesn't really matter. I just find his mirroring and jumping onto the stage and constant "You should see this drama because of Son Ye Jin" and "wanted to breathe the same air" and touching her a lot to be so very adorable for someone of his age, attractiveness, and success. You simply do not see a guy like that go so gaga. Was he unable to control his emotions or his desire to prove his worthiness? Simply curious as to your thoughts.
