[Drama 2019] Hotel Del Luna, 호텔 델루나

The writers seem to love parallelism. The scene at the tunnel where CS grabs MW's hand and asks her if she's coming back and she responds with "wait for me" is almost exactly like the one she had in the past under the tree (Ep 8) with Yeon Wol where she touches his arm and says the exact same thing. In the past, YW was the one one who loved her the most and in the current, it is CS.  But she couldn't save YW in the past.  Since "MW, protect me" seems to be a theme, I wonder if CS is going to be in danger again (from the fake "brother" imitating the bellboy?), but this time MW will make it in time to save him.

My second theory is that if it took her 1 month to get to that point on the bridge, it should also take her 1 month to get back.  It looked like CS at the bus stop, after seeing the tree, may have come to the conclusion that she wasn't coming back.  MW told him not to be like be pitiful like Sanchez so it's possible MW might arrive to the hotel to find out he took the ghost potion thing to help him move on and left to work at a real hotel in that 1 month time span.  Maybe Sanchez even tries to set him up on a blind date and she walks in on it, haha.  And she faces the internal struggle of dragging him back into her world.

I mean, they've wrapped up most of the issues already and there's two whole episodes left, which means at least 1 big cliffhanger / misunderstanding left in episode 15.  I wonder what it will be though.  Can't wait for the text preview to be released to get us through the next few days!

Wow, this drama is so good I actually created an account to post something.

He will likely join her.  Like the dog and the owner.  And cross that bridge together.  I think he has a weak heart.  And I don’t think that is just figurative.  I think he has a heart condition.  He has been primed for sacrifice by Hong Sisters from Day1.  The lamb.  He has always lived with her best interests (and actually everyone’s best interests) at heart.  Whilst portrayed time and time again as the one who is “weak hearted” (by MW’s definition), his is actually the strongest.  The giving heart.  The sacrificial heart.  If anyone deserves to go through that tunnel in a limousine with a rousing send off, it would be CS.  It takes great moral courage to let go of the very thing you treasure the most because she had unfinished business with a past lover.  No strings attached on his end.  He didn’t guilt trip her, he didn’t say, “after all that I have done for you?”.  He just let her go at great cost to himself.  That’s the right way to send someone off.  The Captain’s in contrast was self serving.  Why did he hang around for 1300years?  It was not for her benefit.  It was for his.  He couldn’t let her go.  His was a love on HIS terms, not hers.  CS’s love was always on her terms, for her benefit.  There is simply no comparison.

I think CS will walk the bridge with MW but I don't think it will be for a long long time.

CS's lifeline is really long as stated by the doctor in episode 12. So he can't die so soon.

However, he was clutching his heart when crying at the bus stop  MaGo 1 has stated several times that when the blossom and petals fall so must MW go. So we can surmise now CS's life is tied to MW or vice versa.  I wonder if the danger would be if MW takes too long to come back that CS will have a bad side effect where his health starts deteriorating...his "heart aches" waiting for MW to return and there is a threat of the blossom withering?  Figuratively and literally regarding his heart.

I can see if this was the true price that CS has to pay MW would be so upset  That when he lets MW go to the after life he ceases to exist as well.  As much as MW loves CS and wants to be with him I don't think she would want that to happen to him.  To simply die because of her.  Of course CS wouldn't see it that way.

But on a positive spin maybe this is the loop hole that MaGo 1 - 3 used to literally tie MW to the human world...this is the results of CS's good karma.  He is rewarded with being with MW as long as he lives.  So basically MW isn't going anywhere.  She escorted CM and erased part of her past. She's closed that part of her life and in a sense that "Jang Man Wol has passed on".  When she re-emerges again she is here to live the rest of her life with CS. That's the happy ending there.  Now the question is, will she be full human again or this immortal spirit that runs Hotel Del Luna?  I want little Man Wols and Chan Sungs running around ^_^

All these theories in my head again :sweatingbullets: :phew:

I think I'd like that, Man Wol getting to live for as long as Chansung is alive because of that flower in his heart. And the "last guest you'll see off" thing might still hold, because they'd go together (although Chansung would be a guest too...surely they can bend that a little). Crossing my fingers and toes! :w00t:

Woaah the pages on this discussion are moving fast. I'm planning to stop reading here for awhile so that when Hotel Del Luna ends I have something to come back and look forward to here huhu CS crying end was me last night and will also be me next week. I didn't cry last night especially with CM part but when CS cried my goodness it was like I also had my emotions bottled up inside me and just waited for a time to let it out like him. Even though I know that MW will definitely return I still sobbed so hard because I was watching it in CS perspective. I can't imagine the pain of not being able to know whether your love will comeback even though she promised because he's a human after all and we get scared when something we hold dear is not around us and all we can do is wait. Since the last flower is still blooming in CS heart that would mean that MW will not go to the afterlife until his heart stops beating or when he forgets her (and this would never happen lol). I think the only way to end it happily with them being together is that MW time will start flowing again as a human (is she a ghost? did she really die? I doubt it.) but again as I was saying from the start if they can't be together in this life because MW has really to go then they just better send CS with her. I will be satisfied and I won't accept the reincarnation thingy I've had enough I want the real ManChan. But it would be sad tho to think that they will forget their memories one by one as they cross the bridge but I don't think it will happen because MW will get the snap out of CS and makes him remember everytime he forgets lol and MW will get mad because how dare him forget her and they will start bickering again until they reach the end of the bridge with their memories still intact lmao.

I think it's pretty creepy thing for you to say you think he should be alive and watch his people die too and suffer before his eyes to make it fair lol.

It's not so much as literally wanting him to watch his people die, but to show willingness to do things in MW's terms as penance. MW clearly didn't want him to die just like that and I was expecting him to understand where she is coming from, or ask forgiveness for not handling it well. Instead, he made the choice for MW by pulling the sword. You're right though, I do creepy things sometimes. :D

Just wanted to add that MW let's CS use her arm as a pillow and she pats his head ^_^ like he wanted in episode 12

HAHAHAHA YES, THAT TOO!

The princess' greed was forgiven, she gets to date the enemy she killed. But Cheong Myung.. God Mago, in this day and age, you'd be impeached.

I may be Team CS but I do understand the sympathy for CM, and I think allowing him to go to the afterlife is actually a good thing because then he can reincarnate and start over like Mira and Yeong Soo. He can forget his own guilt and resentment, which he held on to for 1,300 years.

Yes to this. MW couldn't let go because CM ended it just like that. It was his fault, which is why I was disappointed in him, but I was also rooting for him, not as MW's partner but that he'd be a multidimensional character. In some ways, he is, and I felt conflicted about him, and I don't know what to think sometimes so I'm just glad his story line was wrapped up so we don't have to think about him and where he fits.

Out of topic: guys, if you want to see some more YJG crying, try watching Hwayi. a colleague gave me a dvd years ago, but I did not watch it, but since I am YJG crazy now, I finally came around it, and it is soooooo good.

I may watch this too after HDL, when I get that kdrama hangover feeling.

My heart just aches for poor Chan-Sung right now:tears: I was hoping there'd be some sort of redemption with a swap between him & Chung-Myung but that wouldn't be fair to Chan-Sung-_- so I'm conflicted.

If only someone had told Man-Weol that Chung-Myung was always there. Maybe, just maybe.. there's a chance for 'em but nope they let them both suffer for over 1,000 years. So cruel their fate. They're just not meant to be..

When the Hotel Del Luna crew & the Grim Reaper teamed up to rescue Chan-Sung, they looked like avengers of the Underworld ha-ha:lol::w00t: The whole Ji-Won plot was so overdrawn for too long tsk:rolleyes:

Now it appears Hyun-Joong's sis is in danger.. P.O. still need to take more acting lessons am afraid.

True. Sorry to say but he's the worst among all actors in this drama.

just think of it as a character quirk. Sanchez is pretty awkward too but if you just treat it as his personality, it is adorable. I just think of Hyun Joong as a really sweet guy, a soft hearted sheltered rich boy who miraculously did not get disillusioned with the world even after fighting in a war (maybe he died right away even before going into the battle field?). besides, he's someone who likes to hang around in the garden and stare at the flowers. and he did give some nuance when he was telling yoona that his boyfriend should be alive, but he just gets easily swayed :)

The memory loss arc is one of the storyline I cringe the most. It's like when a writer is out of ideas, they'll just use THAT to prolong the story. However, MW has hinted earlier she might lose her memories when crossing the bridge. We don't know how much she will remember when she returns.

And I believe in CS. I think he will not take the potion and wait for her patiently. In Goblin, Eun Tak waited for Kim Shin for 10 years. Chan Sung can bear without Man Woel for 2 months...

However it will turn out, just don't let CS & MW suffer for too long. I need to see them happy :tears:.

It will be sad next week as we had to bid farewell to the hotel staff. Perhaps Yuna will follow HJ since she IS actually a ghost living in a mortal's body...

Everyone will be gone and HDL will await it's new owner, which will not be CS or MW.

I haven’t had time due to watch so 14 but sneaking in here to just see the reactions lol. Hope to catch it tonight....

Suddenly an idea pops out in my head that maybe Sanchez will be the new owner since he knows about Del Luna. He also still hold grudge about her girlfriend

From what I gathered from episode 14, I think MW is the only owner of the guest house / hotel. MG1 said the Moon Tree has always been the owner of the hotel. There would be no owner before or after her.

The Moon Tree which erected from ground up is a mirror of MW in her drying up state when she first met MG1, which swallowed MW's sword stained with her blood to not only bind her for her punishment as MW seek for fulfilled by MG1, but eventually also gather the energy from both realms to create the guest house, making the guest house literally exist.

There was never a real guest house before MW came. MW could have heard the legend about it as a place for dead people to comfort themselves and went to search for it. Her very strong grudge turned out leading her to where MG1 set up her tent for dead people to gather. So, the one who comforted the dead people to let go of their regrets and lead them to afterlife was always MG1 (just like she does in present time that we saw throughout the episodes), and she perhaps set up the tent for the dead to gather and have their fill before proceeding to afterlife. For those who still try to linger around or becoming vengeful, they would straight away be caught by MG4, either to be forced to afterlife or cease to exist. There was no rest area exist before MW.

That's why MG4 detests MG1 idea of creating the guest house for the dead to resolved their regrets, and even giving the ownership to a supposedly vengeful spirit at that.

That's why CM was the first guest. There was never any guest house before MW reach there, thus no other staying guest before him.

The GR also being assigned to lead those souls from the hotel to the afterlife since the beginning of MW ownership to the guest house.

Now that I think about it again, the thing about her time will flow again does not literally means her time is up or that her clock will start ticking and getting old in our human logic. But, her soul will again be brought back to the time when she was most painful and to face the origin of her resentment. The time flow again to witness her choice and decision, though after 1300 years, it would just felt like yesterday for MW. To be saved or cease to exist in her quest to empty herself, the time is flowing for her to make her choice: emptying by killing (again for her misunderstanding) or emptying by forgiving.  That's what MG4 confronted her about under the tree when she scold MW for repeating the same mistake again now that her time started to flow again.

So, I think, MW will continue to be the hotel owner for as long as she wanted to, be it until the end of CS's life, or she wait until CS be reincarnated again and again (I hope it won't be the latter because that would be just like Goblin). I hope she would just go to the afterlife hand in hand with CS, finishing her long lifetime.

On the side note, I'm worrying about in what state MW will return to the hotel. I mean, CM gone weak because he used most of his energy to come back from afterlife to the guest house. MW even walk through halfway of the bridge, would that cause some of her energy depleted? This makes me be reminded of the lifeline thingy in previous episode. Could it be that CS will exchange part of his life span with MG2 for medicine that could restore her energy? Hmmm... there are only 2 episodes left, but this drama keeps making me curious as to what's next in store for us.

Edit: Ah, btw... the question of why CS was the chosen one by MG1 is still a big question they need to answer. I hope it would not be because CS's past life was her horse that accompany her in the long journey (as someone guessed here). That would be super funny! My head will roll off laughing hysterically. LOL! :joy:

Some of us here seems to sympathy with Chun Myung and feel bad for his love as well as being tied with the tree and ManWol for over 1000 years. But for me I thought the story line was perfect. To me Chun Myung is like those first lovers that you loved, hated, got good memories with, bad memories, things that you want to remember and things you don’t. But at the end those first love aren’t the ones you end up with your whole life.

ManWol love for Chun Myung is probably the shallowest kind of love. It’s just the fluttering moment when you feel. But for Chan-Sung his love is totally different. He is not only the one that teach her how to love again but also the ones that change her into a good person, teach her how to forgive. He accepts her for who she is, willing to go to hell with her. And I think what touches her heart is that Chan-Sung ( a weak human) wants to protect her.

It doesn’t surprise me that ManWol didn’t choose Chun Myung. In fact, when Chun Myung died he said “this is the end of us”. It’s really the end of their love. 1300 years later when they said that line again, not only their the end of their love but also the end of their hatred and the end of their ties. To ManWol, Chun Myung is already her past, Chan-Sung is her present. Perhaps if she didn’t meet Chan-Sung, things would have been different. But as she loves Chan Sung , she no longer love Chun Myung anymore and her love for Chan-Sung was what makes her give up on revenge.

Many also feel sorry for Chun Myung for the decision he had to make and that he was wrongly blamed as a traitor but for me it’s still not wrong that he betrayed ManWol. He killed people that she treasured the most. And at the end he decided to die on her sword. To me he is the most pitiful and also the most selfish person. And I’m sure that’s the reason why ManWol forgave him. Because although he did cause her pain, the excuses that he couldn’t say, the fact that he tied with her for 1300 years means he already paid for his wrong doing. He already had his punishment.

I'm sorry I understand most of your sentiments but I have to clarify that, that statement did not come out of my mind! The way you quoted my post did not sit well with me. So now I have edited my post to reflect that views expressed on that post is not mine. I just wanted to share that blog post.

Moving on why do I feel that the show will move to a few months forward in the next episode.

IU and YJG pairing had me skeptical at first. Now I'm such a total fan! This has turned out to be one my faves this year. And, that soundtrack? Are you kidding me?! The Hong sisters really knocked it out of the ballpark for me on this one. So sad that it's ending. I just hope we can get a proper ending.

Ep 14. Just now.

Loved the whole episode and for me, this is the best one so far.

The historical arc was just so sad and the decisions each person made impacted their future.

Now, I am curious about the final 2 episodes.

Most likely we get a wrap up of the hotel staff's stories and not only MW and CS's story but Yuna and HJ as well.

Umm...

Many Korean dramas have the dreaded time - jump.

So far, it's a one month time jump.

The PD gave us hope when she turned around.

Imagine if they left the cliffhanger with her hand reaching towards CM and BAM! END with no preview...

I think we would have torn our hair out.

HAHA.

At the end of it all, I learnt that you have to be careful how you interpret what is being told by the deities.
