I agree 100% with you guys. MS is really slow and inefficient in PR.
 

They have not yet got the good news that Son Ye Jin was being voted as the most beautiful woman of 2020 featured in any Korean newspapers yet. She got more than 4 millions votes out of 11 millions votes from international fans and she won over many other popular women around the globe.

That’s huge as it shows how much international fans love her.

 

SYJ has got to where she is today mostly based on her talent not PR play.

 

SYJ’s fans, her costars, directors, reporters, interviewers have volunteered to do more PR for SYJ than her agency.

But SYJ considers MS Team like her family and she is also a very loyal person.

I tried visiting SYJ’s soompi thread, very minimal posts. I’m just so proud of the shoppers here! More active and more energetic in celebrating her milestone in her career.

 

There is even a negative post there in SYJ thread about our OTP calling shipping pure stupidity, oh well I don’t think that someone is not real fan at all as she don’t want SYJ to be happy on personal side of life (could also be a troll too), so I left that thread. This BinJin shipping paradise is home for me.

 

Happy 20th year anniversary to our Queen, for sure King HB is very happy celebrating with her.

I was telling someone that the translation was decent, but after looking at this, I don't think I was being as attentive to the English subtitles during this question because I would have translated certain parts differently. I was clearly too eager to find out what he was going to say and so I seemed to have ignored some parts since subtitles can be distracting at times... 

NOTE (for the nerds): Before I offer my version, I'd like to give a little insight on the word that they are translating as "synchronize/synchronization," because I've seen it translated in many different ways. It's actually a word that HB and YJ have used quite often in the past (i.e., TN press tour, CLOY interviews, etc.) that essentially refers to "acting together" and that word is, "호흡." The pronunciation in English is, "Ho-heub," or when said quickly, it sounds like, "ho-eup." When you use Google translate, it usually translates to "Breath/Breathing." That is kind of included in the meaning, but it's obviously not close to the full translation... it's one of those Korean words where it's difficult to explain. Sometimes interviewers will ask, "How was your guys' '호흡'?"  (again, referring to acting/acting chemistry)

But other ways it can be translated as: 
1. "How was it acting together?" (Most loose but sufficient translation)
2. "How was your teamwork?" (regarding acting)
3. "How was the synchronization of your acting (with the other person)?" (This is the translation they used here... I wouldn't use this particular translation though, but I definitely see why since "호흡," can also mean being in harmony with, matching with, being in tune with, or being one with...).

So what does "breath/breathing," have to do with this translation and acting? Well, you can think of it as being one with or being in tune with the other person's breathing as you act with them. Synchronized breathing, anyone?  That actually sounds super romantic... 

 

I'm going to be using a blend of "acting together" and "teamwork" depending on the context... but now you guys know the deeper meanings of the word, so you can fill in the blank.

I felt that the translation was very literal in the interview making it difficult to focus on the exact intent. Your translation is so much to the point and explains his intent. I read your post here before. I knew they will get her as well by hook or by crook knowing Filipinos. They will try and do everything to accomplish their wishes. So happy to hear this. Salamat sis.

Soompi is more for mature people (including myself) and we tend to post here more often as the more the merrier, I guess.

Thank you so much for translating Hb’s interview.

To summarize his answers:

He liked acting with SYJ because

1. The opportunity to act with her came very quick (shows he was really eager to work with her face to face).

2. He was blown away by Jinnie’s skills. He knew she was a great actress but when he had seen it himself, he was taken by surprise at Yejin’s acting prowess. We can say that his admiration for Jinnie went 2 steps higher and she did inspire him to give his best (he gave us his best performance in CLOY).

3. He enjoyed acting with her because they had great teamwork. For six months, there was no tension at the set, their working relationship was harmonious. They were totally in sync. This really dispels any rumor of break-up during filming because no matter how professional they are, if there was even personal conflict between them, it will be felt. 

 

When HB said that he learned many things from her, it spoke volumes on how humble and grounded he is. If HB were arrogant and so full of himself, being an a-list actor also, he wouldn’t say those things about Yejin. He was actually being a fan of YJ when he praised her. This interview made me admire him more.

From starring as Yoon Se-ri in one of the year's biggest and highest rated K-Dramas 'Crash Landing on You', to eventually being nominated for Best Actress at the 56th Baeksang Arts Awards for the said role, it's safe to say she is one of the most celebrated South Korean actresses today.

 

The 38-year old superstar has grown gracefully through the years, and with 20 years of showbiz experience under her belt, surely the journey could not have been a walk in the park. One thing we're sure of though, is that she has evolved into becoming one of the most respected actresses of her time. At 38 years old, she surely maintains an ageless face and physique, making her one of our icons for beauty.

 

It comes as no surprise that Son Ye-jin has had her fair share of cosmetics endorsements, including skincare products and tools that showcase her ageless face—from MISSHA, to Man:yo Factory, to Vanav and Skin, Inc. 

 

Little has been said about her fitness routines, as she doesn't really share these kinds of updates on her Instagram account. In an episode of Master in the House (SBS), Ye-jin shares her love for pilates and TRX, and even wows her companions in the show as she reveals that she, is in fact, a licensed instructor (she got her license about eight years ago), and is allowed to teach such workouts if she wants to! Now this puts her high up our girl crush list for sure!

 

In the episode, she demonstrates some TRX moves, an upside-down pilates pose on the trapeze table/Cadillac machine, and flexible, dance-like movements on another machine. The guys, including actor/singers Lee Seung-gi and Yook Sungjae, are in awe of how beautiful Ye-jin looks as she does each move, and feels challenged to try each one out!

 

TRX, or Total Resistance Exercises, is a form of suspension training that targets different muscle groups, to tone and create a strong core. It's a total body workout that's low-impact yet effective in whipping your body in shape. It helps build balance, strength, coordination, flexibility, as well as core and joint stability.

 

Pilates, on the other hand is similar in the sense that it trains a body's flexibility, is low-impact, and builds muscular strength and endurance movements. Pilates teaches proper postural alignment, too.

Happy 20th Anniversary to Yejin! She is indeed a force to be reckon with in K-ent, and one of the few female power  figure in a male-dominated industry. Her love and passion for acting, and her courage to always challenge new roles and genre, brought her the position and results that she has today. @hallyu I am still very curious about this "fan rice" gifts. Is it real rice? At first I thot fans were going to donate the rice to under-privileged communities on behalf of SYJ as a gift to celebrate her 20th Anniversary. But from the picture, there are actually packs of rice under the banner? This is something new to me!

 

Her agency seems very low-profile and less PR driven. It kinda reminds me of SYJ herself. Maybe that is why she stayed so long with them, cuz that's how she wants to manage her career path, ie low profile and private, and just show her good quality works to fans and audience.

WOW!! I can't wait for that to happen! When the Smart boss hinted about how they should not leave Captain Ri being lonely and alone, I personally believe he was very serious about it, and was in negotiation with SYJ to also be part of Smart endorser. He wouldn't have given such a strong hint, if nothing was going on. The question is whether SYJ will accept the offer. Let's wait and see and hope for good news!!

Thanks so much @celest1al for this much deeper and meaningful translation of what HB said about working with YJ. It's almost the same as what he said in the Esquire interview, to be able to breathe the same air in the same room working with YJ. I don't know if this is normally used in SK context of acting opposite one's co-star (wish I know korean and have seen other actors/ actresses descriptions), but HB's explanation is so intimate and like you say, sound super romantic.   Whenever HB talks about YJ, he seems especially inspired with the type of words he use to describe her, her acting and her real person. Le sigh.....
