hey ya chingus, with this spotlight, get ready to explore another section of soompi. besides kdramas, many of our chingus also watch a lot of cdramas. one of the ships that arose from cdrama entertainment is the Dilraba and Vengo pairing.

 

 

the popular actors have acted in 6 projects together. they were not a couple in all of them but certainly made an impression. here are the highlight notes of their projects the ship has put together; put them on your list and explore some new dramas!

Secondary couple but capturing the hears of viewers! ~ the drama is based on the first book from  3 Lives, 3 Worlds universe by the author Tang Qi Gong Zhi. for many viewers, it felt like a case of serendipity. they had never heard of the actors before and they stumbled onto the drama by chance. however, the performance of these two actors as the young nine-tailed princess of Qing Qiu and the revered, emotionless deity and former ruler of all realms stood out and made hearts flutter with the fun chemistry! viewers loved the super cute couple who brought so much smile, laughter, tears and joy. for many who had never watched a cdrama before, this drama became the entrance to another drama world to further explore!

 

Eternal Love (Ten Miles of Peach Blossom) 2017

Dilraba – Bai Feng Jiu

Vengo – Dong Hua Dijun

 

• In TMOPB Diliraba plays Bai Feng Jiu opposite Vengo Gao, portraying Dong Hua Dijun, where they are the so-called secondary couple. Though their story in Peach Blossom is non-cannon, it’s amusing for the most part nonetheless!  Why did I like it? First of all, they share a lot of funny and heart-warming scenes together and there's chemistry in abundance!  

 

• Their character's personalities are complete opposites and Bai Feng Jiu has the audacity (or bravery?)  to pursue a man said to be a recluse devoid of emotions; who is much, much older and once ruled both Heaven and Earth. Call it foolishness or bravery, I rather like her character’s persistence. Even though Bai Feng Jiu does the chasing, the former Emperor of Heaven and Earth is at times quite amused by her antics where otherwise he appears aloof, uncaring and unfeeling.
• I like actors who can express “themselves” without words; through gestures and expressions, which in case you are playing Dong Hua Dijun is a must! Vengo Gao’s acting style impressed me very much.  I instantly wanted to know more about the mysterious and revered former ruler of Heaven and Earth in the first episode when he quietly sat listening to the news that Mo Yuan had gifted the Kunlun fan to his youngest disciple, Si Yin. I’m not sure why, but it could have been the white tresses

• One of my favorite scenes is when a drunk Bai Feng Jiu meets Dijun outside Tai Chen Palace.  (He ends up having to carry her back himself.)

• As for Eternal Love, it is Feng Jiu who is exasperating in EL because she keeps persisting even when Dong Hua tells her to go. Plus, she doesn’t really grow up in EL; thus, I prefer ELOD. Still, I can admire her determination to protect Dong Hua and her sadness that she has to hurt his mortal incarnation. And I just adore how Dong Hua protects her every time. His confession is one of my favourite scenes.

 

We want more! ~ Fans loved the peach blossom pairing that another drama was filmed about the characters. Vengo and Dilraba  reprised their roles and continued to make hearts flutter as fans got to see what happened after the ending of peach blossoms drama and how these two loved characters had finally a chance to be together.

 

Eternal Love of Dreams (The Pillow Book) 2020

Dilraba – Bai Feng Jiu / Xiao Jiu / Xiangli Aranya

Vengo – Dong Hua Dijun / Song Xuan Ren / Shen Ye

 

•  Obviously ELOD is my favorite, even if I find Dong Hua's actions questionable most of the times. For starters, we have a happy ending for Dong Hua and Feng Jiu. We can see the chemistry between the main leads and I like them both for their shared love of mischief. Plus, the sword dance was just beautiful.

• Dilraba was impeccable in acting out the growth and maturity of the young fox princess as she experiences trials and hardships in repaying her life debt to Dong Hua. Vengo on the other hand perfected the micro-expressions and eye speak as the icy-faced and recluse Emperor of all realms, who falls in love for the first time. And oh, he absolutely rocks that white-haired look.
• And like its predecessor Eternal Love, the OSTs and BGMs for Eternal Love of Dream are hauntingly beautiful. Added bonus, the very nature-like background noise.

Other projects that you can check out!  they are not necessarily a couple in these projects but for fans, there are some great performances and they have fun watching.

• A rom-com movie between a web novelist and a well-off mama’s boy whose first meeting was hilariously disastrous for both.
• Dilraba can do comedy and should do more comedy. Same with Vengo, so effortless in making fun of his height.
• They aren’t a couple in this film, but they have that strong chemistry during their scene.
• Last of all, Mr Pride and Miss Prejudice. I may have been prejudiced myself because of EL, but I was rooting for Xian Jun. I wasn’t so impressed with Zhu Hou. Plus, at least Xian Jun always helped Nannan. I found them leaving him behind kind of very cold.

• It is a story about growing up, loyalty, choices and decisions a person makes for oneself, valuing the moments with friends and family, and making the most of what the circumstances can offer.
• Dilraba and Vengo were in very few scenes together, and only in the last 3 episodes. As Fuqu, she’s a kind and gentle friend. She was quite mean and cold when she was possessed. As Feng Guang Mo, he is a shaman from Yingduo who lost his memories after surviving a massacre. He then became Yin Qian Shang, and spent his days in drunken stupor. Despite not remembering the past, he has not lost his martial arts knowledge and magic arts skills.
• Aesthetics and special effects may not be as intricate and detailed compared to what more recent dramas have now, but still quite good. The acting for the cast, even the child actors, are believable and on point.

•  Settings is considered ancient history, but it is a timely drama about cultural awareness, appropriation, and diplomatic protocols.
• Dilraba is a spirited princess proud of her tribe and her people’s capabilities, and a walking magnet of troubles during a diplomatic visit to another kingdom. Vengo is King Zouxian, husband to Liu Xian. He is a forward-thinking monarch, who married Liu Xian despite not knowing about her past.
• Dilraba, as always, is eating during takes.

• The modern drama is about three sworn brothers whose friendship is tested by the challenges in their relationship choices, their parents’ past history, intrigues, and their own personal ambitions. For viewers who like corporate poaching of talent and espionage, double speak, and blurred lines between business and family affairs, this one hits the mark.
• Dilraba plays a scheming heiress who uses her influence to get what she wants, including forcing others to conform in having a personal relationship with her. She perfected the innocent act as she manipulates people and situations as she wishes.
• Vengo is the educated abroad, corporate chair who has long-standing grudge with his father. He is very cynical where business is concerned, but keeps a soft spot for his former skating partner when he and she were school children. The character of Dilraba would also create issues between him and his childhood sweetheart.

Most of us have fallen for the white haired deity and the nine-tailed fox princess way back in TMOPB (Eternal Love) even if their story there is non-cannon. Vengo and Dilraba played their parts so well as Dong Hua and Feng Jiu.

 

Getting to know their actual story first in the book, and then seeing the drama adaptation for The Pillow Book (Eternal Love of Dream) without waiting too long, hehehe, was awesome! But what made it even more awesome is that the secondary couple actors in the first drama reprised their roles!

I thought V&R collaborated together in series and movie 7 times. How about V-Love drama in 2014? That’s when they are having hot kiss together. I believe it was a first screen kiss together for both of them. My Chinese is rusty, I remember V mentioned he collaborated with R including ELOD 7 times in one of his interview.

We wanted to, but we couldn't find any subbed V Love. Which is a pity, since it's the other one they're a couple.

I recently discovered this forum and I hope i'm not too late to join the party of Vengo and Dilraba shippers. I need an outlet for this cute couple.

 

HOW I DISCOVERED THEM

 

Just like most of you, I watched so many Kdramas due to the pandemic and just recently got into watching Chinese dramas as recommended by youtube. I first saw Dilraba through Love Designer series (with Johnny Wang) and  I find her beauty unique. Though the story is ok, I just got curious about her and a friend who's into Cdrama recommended that I watched Eternal Love of Dreams (ELD) and Eternal Love (EL). I'm not into fantasy and action Chinese genre but since I was bored, I gave it a try. Oh boy I'm so glad I did.  

 

THE PALPABLE CHEMISTRY

I first watched ELD and I finished watching it in two days straight. Although its a long series, I want more and started watching EL. I find the visuals and their acting in EL better than ELD (but thats just my opinion) despite their story was soooo bittersweet. Although they're the second lead they marked more than the main leads specially after watching the tail scene.

 

I kept watching the scene more than usual but the effect is the same, it truly moved me. They are truly gifted.

 

Although many are annoyed with FJ and DH characters in EL, without bias they nailed their roles. Vengo's acting is so effective since many great directors can tell you that "less is more" and its difficult to pull off. Since the ending is open ended, it makes the viewers crave more for them.

 

I even read the two novels of pillowbook (again I'm glad I did since I understand better the story) and for the first wattpad stories abt the continuation of their story.

 

They'e my 4th OTP and I can say that I have a good track record of picking the right OTP. 

 

What makes them successful is the genuine chemistry since you can't fake what is genuine and its very strong.

 

Sorry about the long post. I'm still doing a long backread (am now at page 45 of this thread) and I can't help but out myself to thank everyone for sharing their thoughts and views about them. The reddit author is also a huge help for me to ship them.

I agree with what you said. They both nailed it so it's no wonder they reprised their roles... If my memory serves me right, they had other actors in mind at first, but fans wouldn't have it.

My gripe is that the tears of DH in TMOPB didn't make the final edit.  Nonetheless, this is one of the scenes in TMOPB that makes the show unforgettable. IMO, it is second only to that barefoot walk of Bai Qian to Zhuxian terrace.

 

I like how expressive Vengo's eyes are for this scene.
