On a side note...Whaaatttt!! Son Ye Jin actually visited North Korea..

 

She visited NK in 2005 to film a video related to the unification of the two Koreas. I don't think she  went to Pyongyang or entered mainland NK, but atleast she set her foot there.

Yejin clearly said that she hoped for the re-unification to happen soon.

My god little did she know that in the future,14 years later, she will contribute more to this cause when her character in a drama Crash Landed in NK. I think this was also one reason why she chose to work in CLOY. I never believed in Destiny or such things but HB and SYJ are surely changing my perception towards this concept.

Also ,this drama really helped many people become aware of the situation in Korean Peninsula..

@NonKoreanMango I think the reason why SYJ did the liking spree at the time is because they got engaged shortly before. I think she did it out of happiness. The liking spree is as close to making an official statement, and the reason why there is no official statement is because he was filming. I read somewhere that Korean actors are contractually required to not make personal announcements for a certain period during the production of a movie or drama to not negatively affect the production. I am not sure whether HB signed such a contract or if they just decided to wait until all the award events ended so as to not overshadow the accomplishments of their co-stars in CLOY. Regardless of the reason, I am pretty sure they are together and will announce eventually.

I agree with you if they keep on considering other people how about their own happiness.. We only meet our match once in our lifetime and we all can see that both YJ and HB are already in marrying stage probably a little bit late already..they spent there whole 20yrs building their carreer i think it is about time they focus their own happiness and if I were them and happens to meet my destined person i will take a risk coz i know its a risk that worth fighting for... @TotoroSY Thank you so much about the Carol Cheng post. I read it and thinking CC is not simply a radio host but a shipper. She is a very successful actor herself so she understands how the industry work. Her views are really valuable. She helped us to see BinJin acting skills & relationship via a clearer lens. Like when she analysed the scene where YSR was alone in RJH home. YJ’s acting skills are superb, but CLOY was so good with so many great scenes that we may missing out a couple of good acting scenes. CC views about BinJin as well, she is whipped about BinJin like all of us but at the same time her analytical mind and her experience of entertainment world pointing us to the right direction, why BinJin did this and that... Why didn’t they coming out when the grocery photos surfaced and why they chose to call each other close friend instead. CC also believe BinJin is considering marriage and won’t take it lightly. In conclusion, I think BinJin to CC is real like many of us here believe & our ship is still sailing smoothly. Thank you for taking time listening to the talks and get the translation for us. Agreed. Testing is not done at the airport, only temperatures are taken. I would imagine that HB had been tested while in Jordan and was tested again upon his arrival. And I read that he tested negative. However, even if one is tested negative, Covid symptoms could still appear that's why they have to isolate for 14 days. Symptoms would have appeared around 7 days during isolation if he got the virus. And it is okay as well to quarantine with family as long as proper health precautions are followed. I do believe that HB is self isolating with YJ, if not upon his arrival but after a few days of self-isolation.

So true! I think both HB and SYJ are already so stable in their career that getting married won't affect their career. They already have global recognition thanks to CLOY, so what makes people think them getting married will ruin their career because a small circle of people are unhappy about it? They gained so many fans from CLOY qll over the world who will be so happy if they end up together in real life. Remember in life, you can't please everyone and there will be haters no matter what...so just focus on your own happiness and people who really matter to you and love you because in the end they are the ones who will stand by you forever.

I believe that YJ did not make it easy for HB before she opened her heart for him. 

HB did things that he has never done in public before for YJ.

What he has done for YJ is very meaningful as he is a person who is careful with his public image/ does not show much his real personality to the public. He was ready to risk his image for YJ. But she is YJ, so nothing to lose.

 

But I think it's good that she challenged him before she accepted him.

while many pp has different interpretations of their relationship journey,i personally think that they started out as friends and started developing feelings for each other during the TN promos(unexpectedly).I don't think there was something between them during the TN filming,because Bin was having a girlfriend at that time( maybe they had a slight crush on each others,who knows?)Then,they met each other again and feeling blossomed as they discovered they shared similar views on many things ,and also they understood each others so well without taking too much effort to communicate.Mutual understanding brought them closer together and they started realizing that the other person has many charming sides they has never seen before.They might have doubts and skeptics before entering the relationship due to many struggles of being extremely well known celebrities. @TotoroSY  Thanks for your detailed recap.  Kinda funny that quite a few of us know and are discussing CC here hehe.  I'm not old enough to know how it was when people were shipping CC and Chow Yun Fat due to them playing a memorable onscreen couple in a hit drama, but I do remember being shocked to find out CC was dating Lui Fong in real life!  They just seemed such opposites in every way and not the kind of person I expected CC would be attracted to! (And now Lui Fong is married to a much younger woman after their break up and even becoming a dad in his 50s!)  CC also had rumours with another onscreen partner because they had such great onscreen chemistry, but I don't think they were ever together in real life.  I mention CC's love life history here as a kind of reflection and cautionary tale on how people on the outside, who don't know these celebrities and actors in real life, should proceed with caution in making assumptions about the love lives of strangers.  Just my pov.  In CC's case she was never with the actors people thought she was with and was in fact with someone totally unexpected in real life.  Of course that's just her case, and there are others where rumoured couples were in fact together.  My point is it's all too easy to get swept up in great onscreen or even offscreen chemistry between actors and then want them to be together and have a happy ending in real life.  I get wanting that.  But chemistry doesn't always equal compatibility.  I just never let myself forget that I don't know any of these people so would never presume to know whether they are in fact a good fit for each other.  Some people can be great on screen, on paper etc. but end up just being good friends for whatever reason that we won't know.  I'm not saying that is the case with BinJin; I'm saying I'm comfortable with not making any assumptions or drawing any conclusions myself.  Not until it comes from the horse's mouth. Others may approach fandom differently.  To each their own. 

 

As for what CC said about the pressures of 2 famous actors being together and why they may be reluctant to do so, I completely get her point.  Tbh, I would be surprised if SYJ didn't have similar concerns.  But then again, I don't let myself forget I don't know SYJ in real life, so maybe she's a free spirit who throws caution to the wind lol. Just going from her past interviews, it seems she would have those concerns about dating a fellow actor.  Which actress wouldn't?  That's nothing to do with HB, just I understand a woman at SYJ's age would make decisions of the heart carefully and there are various things to consider.  Dating anyone as a celebrity is complicated, dating another celebrity extra complicated, dating someone in the same profession as a woman can also add complication (the competition/comparison), as can working together (if) while you are dating.  There can be pressure to get married at that age, but also a real pleasure at the freedom and independence that comes with not being married. 

 

And for someone as private as SYJ who has never revealed anything about her private life, I imagine being under the intense media and fan scrutiny that dating a fellow celebrity would bring, can't not weigh on her mind.  Can you live and love freely under all that scrutiny?  

 

I was reading an interview with Lee Jung Hyun, one of SYJ's Cinderella friends, from her wedding that SYJ attended.  LJH was asked if a female artist friend received the bride's wedding bouquet and she said all her friends are married and those who are not did not want to get married yet. SYJ and GHY are the only 2 in the group who are not married. Then again, LJH also said that SYJ congratulated her a lot on her marriage and was very happy for her and she did not know if her single friends were jealous of her and that her friends recommended she get married.  This was in 2019.  I don't want to read too much into any passing comment or incident and our thoughts can change at any time!

 

Is anyone in SYJ's Cinderella group married to someone also in the entertainment industry, a fellow actor?  Or are they all married to successful businessman/professionals in other professions as often seems to be the case with actresses?  Maybe her friends' experiences influences SYJ's thinking a bit though everyone is of course different.  Maybe they've set her up on blind dates in the past, who knows.  I thought it was interesting how LJH shared that her actress friends met her then boyfriend and gave her their OK on him so to speak and she valued their opinions.

 

If SYJ and HB are really together, then I think that's great and wish them the very best.  They have the ingredients in the eyes of strangers of being a good match.  If they are just good friends, then I think that's great too. Genuinely.  Only they can know if it's meant to be.

(And well matched by talented HB!)  I get why she said she watched many comedy skits to prepare for the role of Seri because Seri is a funny, unpredictable character.  Actors often say comedy is harder to get right, to make people laugh, and not get the tone wrong or come off annoying, and I thought SYJ/writer got it right in CLOY to make Seri a funny and endearing character and not just a spoiled rich girl cliche.  My favourite part about SYJ's acting is her very expressive eyes and i am most impressed by how well she can calibrate the emotion to a scene, especially with getting the crying right over many takes and crying in different ways for different emotional scenes.  HB's acting challenge was different in a way, to bring a restrained character to life, with charisma and even humour at times, and I thought he did a great job too.  Without 2 talented partners in crime, you can't get the amazing chemistry we did.

Thanks for bringing up CC's love life as a reference -  that's always good point to keep in mind when shipping. We know very little of these peoples lives. I do think most Binjin shippers understand their onscreen chemistry, while great, is not enough to prove a relationship. This is why we always goes back to #InGroceryWeTrust (which happened before CLOY). Their on-screen chemistry, BTS, and interactions during interviews, etc... only helped to reinforce what was already suspected.

Agreed. Also, I'm pretty sure SYJ has said that in a past interview - about not wanting to date a fellow actor. I think most actors would avoid that if possible. Not just because of the pressures involved, but because logistically, it's hard when two people have busy careers that involve travel and working all hours of the day/overnight at times. A lot of Hollywood couples who make it work say they can't both have projects at the same time, otherwise they would never see each other. But that involves a lot of sacrifice not all are willing to make. It's actually lot simpler for an actor to date someone with a much more stable 9-5 type of job. But this is all logic-based and sometimes the heart wants what it wants no matter how much you try to avoid it. I think if you are an actor and end up meeting a fellow actor at the right time and place and fall in love, with a mature understanding of what it involves to make it work, well anything is possible.

@Seriya @QueenieBee one of LMJ's co stars recently shared (it is in recent soompi news) that LBH would always sent videos of their son. So LMJ would always be watching them on set everyday.. It made the co star think more on marriage and having a family. So I can only imagine what seeing this family happy life between actors does to Jinnie  - as we know she started changing her thoughts of marriage in different interviews during 2018  So yes marriage in the industry is hard but it can work out especially knowing how busy LBH has been in his career still even after getting married and having a family

On June 9th, she talked about YJ's liking spree.....and briefly mentioned reconciliation news. LOL If I have time I'll translate it. CC is just as anxious as us about BinJin confirmation. And there was one bit where the ex was mentioned....was seriously the highlight of the whole segment for me. I'm trying to see how I can translate it and share it without breaking Soompi rules hahahaha

Carol Cheng, who is a top tier veteran actress and host in HK, became a mega CLOY fan, and also a Binjin shipper/ supporter. She was part of the HK TVB drama peak era in the 80s, together with Chow Yuen Fatt (who was her frequent co-star) and later became a super host. One of the smartest, wittiest and funniest entertainer in C-ent, I love watching her acting and hosting. So to listen to her GUSH over CLOY, SYJ and later HB (she became his fan after CLOY, but has always been a YJ fan), and how she is like us hoping for Binjin to get married, is such an awesome thing to hear!! Some of her thoughts might feel uncomfortable at first but she say it based on her own POV and her observation of the entertainment industry, so do read it with an open mind.

But it's well worth it cuz Carol Cheng and her co-hosts' discussion and banter is so funny, witty and entertaining.

So far, I have listened to the June 9th, and then backwards to the Feb 18th and 21st shows. I think Feb 18th is the first time she talked about CLOY and Binjin (after the CLOY finale). Here's a summary translation :

Yep! Carol Cheng is a multi-awarded, veteran actress from Hong Kong. She came to fame around the early 80s and has starred in many hit-dramas and some movies that were box office hits. Her most notable onscreen partner is Chow Yun-Fat. Many people thought they were dating that time or wanted them to date.  I guess this shipping business thing has existed since the dawn of time lol CC hasn't filmed anything since 2002 because she thinks there aren't good scripts anymore (at least for her) lol so her focus has turned to hosting variety and radio shows. I think any Cantonese person who has seen her host a show knows how quick witted she is. I've only seen a few of her works since she's more of my parents' generation, but I've always admired her hardworking and no-BS attitude (she pretty much learned English on her own and she is extremely fluent). CC may not be as internationally recognized but she's even more senior to big names like Tony Leung, Andy Lau, and Maggie Cheung (she did a couple of movies with MC) so she is very respected by her peers and audience. In the recent years, she started to "keep up" with the trends and got really into K-ent. She's also invited several Korean stars (mainly boy band members I think) to her radio show. 

She's said on her radio show that she really wants HB to have a fanmeeting in Hong Kong again and she'll definitely go (and I saw on IG that she'll definitely go and meet YJ too). The funny thing is, I read an IG comment saying that many years ago, she refused to watch MLFTS because she thought the plot was "childish" LOL But her stance has obviously changed, as it's pretty evident from her radio shows that she's watched it (when the other female co-host compared CLOY to MLFTS as they're both written by Park Ji-Eun).

 

Anyway! I'm saying all of this to emphasize that we have a famous, veteran actress shipping BinJin just like us and OPENLY talking about them on her radio show. So when people call us delusional, I guess she's delusional as well? And just like us, she knows about BinJin's TN collaboration /promo days/grocery shopping so I'm sure she knows their love didn't start from a love drama and isn't just shipping them because of CLOY's chemistry. And if in the end we all turned out to be clowns, I guess I'm happy that a veteran actress and I were once clowns together.

The caption (in the screen shot) says "CLOY Season 2, Do姐 thinks they are a match made in heaven, Hyun Bin plus Son Ye Jin!" (FYI - Do姐 aka "Sister Do" is her nickname and pretty much what everyone calls her by). I follow Carol Cheng on IG. At one point after CLOY, she even followed at least SEVEN BinJin accounts hahaha She even followed their hashtags. I think she's since unfollowed the accounts and hashtags (prior to June 9th) but she still talked about them on June 9th, which means she didn't drop shipping. She just likes to follow whatever she likes at that moment. Like she was also following the timotheechalamet hashtag but she no longer follows it lol

- She has always been a fan of SYJ and know she is a good actress, but now after CLOY she is also a HB fan cuz he acted so well. Before that she has not really watch his works and have only see his action shows (I guess films?), thot he is an action actor, but never thot he can act so well.

- And now the whole world, millions of fans are hoping for HB and SYJ to get married.

 

- Then she started talking about Binjin chemistry, and why so many fans want them to get married. Carol said  that HB fans who call themselves Mrs Hyun even said they will agree if HB marries YJ.

- Carol explained to the other DJs about how Binjin debut almost at the same time 20 years ago, and YJ even debuted earlier. They then filmed TN in 2017 together (she explained how the film via monitor) and the TN promo happened where they travel in the bus together, and HB who is known as being rather stiff, ended up doing all the selfies, funny apps, wind-blow selfies with YJ. Many say how good they look together. Usually for top stars, after working once together, that is all. But HB said during the promo that he wants to film again with SYJ, and wants to act in a rom.com with her.

- During Sept 2018, you can see SYJ celebrating birthday with HB. Then in Jan 2019, it is SYJ's birthday, and the January rumour and LA grocery sighting happened, and everyone was very happy thinking they will admit but in the end they still denied. Thinking that was it, but a few months later both of them accepted to star in CLOY together.

- The 2nd lady MC Valerie said that many of her friends who never watch Kdramas, tell her to watch CLOY and how CLOY is the first Kdrama for them and keep saying how good it is and how addicted they are. Carol Cheng said that HB acts as a warm NK soldier and met YJ, and their r/s development while they are not dating but still have a lot of chemistry. The male DJ said HB's eye gaze is so attractive etc etc (haha, even guys get attracted to HB's gazes).

- Carol Cheng then started to say that she don't think they will get married (don't worry, she don't think like this anymore cuz by Feb 21st she is hoping they will get married haha). Reason she gave is that both are Top Tier actors, and them being together is just too overwhelming and too much pressure (as everyone hope for them to be together). Also they have spent 20 years building their career to their current status, and though CLOY is a big success for them, they've also experienced career slumps before, and not every work is successful, so they will need to be extra careful in handling relationships. If anything happens, it will also impact their team (manager, PA, stylists etc) which is a big team relying on them for their livelihood. And if they marry and later split (she gave example of other celeb couples), there will be a big impact on their career, standing in the industry and also their team. She said sometimes it may be better star couples just stay friends. But when asked if she thinks they are together, she said their chemistry in CLOY is just too great, including their BTS,.... (i think she believe they have strong feelings for each other, or even dating). But they may still need to consider very carefully before deciding to get married.

- Carol also brought up how earlier HB talked about if he has a girlfriend, he will do something special for her during her birthday, and so looks like now he has done it (you can see that Carol is torn btwn being worried about Binjin and the impact their relationship will have on each other, and how she also thinks and wants them to be together)

I think Carol Cheng's thots on marriage for Binjin is very rational and practical. She is after all a big star herself when she was young, and know the trappings and risks of being a star and idol. One of the male DJ actually raised up that she and frequent co-star Chow Yuen Fatt was also a couple that fans hope will become real life. But she said that for them, they have always only been good friends and colleagues so nothing happened. She also said that just like SYJ, fans always wish she will date each of her co-star (haha).  Anyway, this is only her thots and i guess she is cautious about marriage between such Top stars. Which I believe is the reason why Binjin is taking it very very slowly, and keeping it very very private, cuz their actions has major impact not just on themselves but others around them, including family, staff and fans.

- This program on 21 Feb has a lot of funny and happy discussion. 

- Another friend of the 2nd female DJ who started watching CLOY and sent her a voice message (she played it) saying her husband said he lost his wife and her son said he lost her mom, and all she does is cry while watching it.

- One of the male DJ is also got addicted to CLOY and cried 3 times watching it.

- One friend (of Valerie's, the 2nd female DJ) was promoted to watch CLOY at 11pm, so he started watching and ended up watching till 12 pm next day. This friend said that:  firstly, he has never cried so much and secondly, he has not hold the same position for 12 hours for so long (haha!).

- Then Carol said that for her who have finished watching, it feels like she is suffering from a break-up (loss of love) lol!!

- On top of the funny stories about CLOY gushing, there is also an amusing one about HB. So Carol Cheng said they must invite this "professor" who is an expert on NK. Carol said she wants to know if there are really guys all over the street like HB in NK, if yes she will immediately go over there (haha).

- The male DJ then said, HB is the ideal man, tall and broad shouldered, and killer eye gaze. He also said that his eyes seems to be always watery, then carol add he hold the tears and then at the right time the tears will roll out. The male DJ said his eyes seems to be reddish at the bottom, and it's natural, not make-up, always watery. Carol add she don't know how he does it. When he looks at you its always watery, and as soon its close-up the tears will fall down.

- Then Carol said they are too matching (HB and YJ) and their chemistry is too strong, and though the 2nd OTP is also good, but HB and SYJ is just too strong and steal every scene, and she also hope they will get married.

 

Yep! Although CC said on Feb 18th that she didn't believe BinJin would get married, she was coming from a very rational, practical perspective, especially one as an actress. It is certainly a perspective that we, as shoppers, need. There was one line she said that stuck out to me. It was "you have to calculate love."  I would agree with that statement. There's definitely a lot of things to worry about as A-listers. HB and YJ are probably the celeb that is the most famous in their respective agencies, which means they also pull in the most revenue. Also they have a whole team of people working for them. They can't afford to act irrationally. This is why I laugh at those who make fun of us for the denials etc. It really means they don't understand the industry at all. Of course, CC's stance has changed and she is now a full-fledged BinJin shipper. This means that she must've saw something in them that made her throw in her full support.

 

@/binjinshearteu on Twitter (and IG) translated a segment from Feb 18th. This is how much she knows about BinJin LOL she is totally a shipper. 

 

 

By the way, I just want to make a slight correction to the content above. Valerie isn't the second female host. The second female host is called Ma Lei. Valerie is CC's gym buddy whom CC recommends dramas to. CC played a voice message that Valerie left her which said her husband and kids thought they lost a wife and a mother because she was so invested in CLOY   I think forget whether it was from the voice message or CC said it herself that Valerie was running and crying on the treadmill while watching CLOY hahaha.

- This is where Carol Cheng brought up SYJ's IG liking incident, how she liked 40 IG posts/ pix of her and HB, after the BAA was over a few days ago.

- It's just a funny exchange amongst the 4 DJs, trying to figure out why SYJ did all the likes. And Carol said she herself has never liked other IG posts so what SYJ did was quite a unique thing as SYJ has not done such liking spree before. 

- Carol Cheng kept wondering and asking why SYJ did that, since she never liked so many before, and it's all her pix with HB! Carol Cheng kept asking her fellow DJs what they think it means, is she ready to admit to the relationship? (the other DJs are basically quite useless in their replies haha!)

- One of the male DJ kept saying he is worried about HB fans not agreeing (to HB being with SYJ) but Carol Cheng said most of them are OK with it ie supportive of binjin.

I have played the June 9th part at least 5 times...because it was just so good. Especially in light of the....ahem shipping wars that happened in July and second round of fake recon news, listening to that segment was just medicine for me after all that crap haha. That June 9th segment is so great because you can tell CC was just as anxious as us, dissecting and analyzing YJ's liking spree. Also, although the other hosts were pretty much useless, @Wol-sook pointed out to me that Ma Lei did say that "doesn't liking mean confirmation?" to which CC replied "but as long as they don't confirm, it's not official."  hahahaha But CC hasn't talked about BinJin (not that I know of) for a while. I was worried she would drop the ship because of the second round of fake news that happened in July. But since she knows about the liking spree, I'm pretty sure she's read HB's denials as well. I almost wanted to DM CC that this ship is still sailing! But I didn't because she's much older than me, I'm sure she'll figure it out. Also she's inside the HK industry where there's lots of interactions with Korean stars...if anything I'm sure she gets inside scoops about celebrities that us commoners don't. I firmly believe there are no secrets in the entertainment industry. Even though she has never met Binnie or Jinnie herself, she knows people who have. It's just a matter of how much they can keep it from the public. 

 

Anyway, it as actually on my bucket list to translate those interviews for everyone hahaha But I kept putting it off. when I finally had the time, I translated the Feb 28th one where CC praised YJ's performance first. It was only a 2-3 min segment but it took me a whole hour to translate everything word for word. I commend @TotoroSY for your efforts!
