Yet another article about CLOY from the Washington Post! There was another one posted a couple of days ago that someone linked a few pages back about how CLOY was still one of the most popular shows available on streaming sites around the world and now, the site goes into a more comprehensive review of the show. It’s pretty much talks about the same stuff we see in all the other articles about CLOY but this is a major western news site and the fact that they’re even talking about it speaks volumes about CLOY’s popularity, relevancy and international appeal. So, so, so happy for the cast and crew!!! 

 

 

There’s also another article from a Malaysian website (I don’t believe anyone has linked this yet) but it’s from a non-regular Kdrama watcher and a super sweet read. I think it’s pretty much an understatement to say that CLOY has not only brought in tons of new fans but also brought back old fans who’d abandoned watching kdramas for years since they didn’t like any. As I said before: CLOY is a masterpiece, PERIOD!

 

Also, it’s truly crazy how everyone around the world is talking about CLOY but Binjin themselves won’t acknowledge it with post-drama interviews  I sincerely hope there’s a good reason why because they were not shy at all during their pre-drama interviews despite all the rumours (see: any of their Swoon stuff) so even despite all the COVID nonsense, they still should have done at least ONE interview. Individually or together. Have mercy on us, guys!

Thank you so much for sharing. I love how the first article interviewed NK defectors and the NK girl who risked her life to be with the SK solider including buying a dead person's identity. It just made me feel like CLOY's plot can be plausible because similar situation has happened to the NK girl and at the end she got married to the SK soldier so happy for them!

Their online friendship turned into love, and then into a risky gamble to buy a dead person’s identity to obtain a Chinese passport. Kang used it to travel to South Korea to be with the soldier. They eventually got married.

 

“I had to take terrifying risks at each stage of my journey to South Korea to meet him. It was love that got me through the impossible borders,” she said. “People dismiss ‘Crash Landing on You’ as an unrealistic drama. But I was totally feeling [the North Korean army captain character] when he lied to his family and forged a Chinese passport to save his South Korean lover. Would a North Korean man do something as crazy as that just for love? Well, Iook what I did.”

 

 

CLOY is really a masterpiece and it's the first of its kind, depicting NK life that we would never know until now.  I'm so glad Binjin picked this drama and they both did a wonderful job in portraying their characters and also all the supporting characters did a wonderful job too..I miss CLOY and Binjin so much..... but no news is good news for them so they can enjoy their quiet and private time.

Agree with most of you on why Binjin did not do any interviews post CLOY. Usually when a drama is that successful, the main leads will at least do one or two interviews. Look at all the supporting cast, who did a few interviews and appear in a few shows. So this means the Covid19 issue was not yet that serious initially and Binjin could have done some interviews. So the only plausible reason is cuz they don't want to be asked questions about the romance rumours, and be "forced" to directly answer about the media and public speculations about their relationship. It just makes it easier for them to keep totally quiet and go under the radar about it. I think it's their way to protect their relationship.

 

Anyways, here's another good article on CLOY! These accolades just continue to roll in!! I am so happy for both HB and SYJ and how this will help propel their career to another level!!

Though I'd like to see them doing interviews after the show, I guess it's for the better that they remain silent. I'm feeling positive about them, and will continue praying about them being together irl hahaha

Questions of why no post-CLoY interviews were given by BinJin pop up now and again. I recall reading somewhere that the “no post-CLoY interview” was agreed from the outset. It wasn’t an oversight or sudden decision.

 

My 2-cents worth on the Why: A post-show interview is easy & relaxed when there is no romantic relationship between the co-stars. It’s tricky when there is and especially when they are a very private couple. I’m guessing BinJin were already in a relationship by late 2018. If so, accepting to act in CLoY in 2019 was a big risk to their privacy and to their careers, given how K-ent and Knetz are about couples in shows. It would require BJ to veil their relationship throughout 2019 until CLoY concluded in early 2020. That meant one whole year of minimising relationship slip-ups that might be on film (e.g. bts, photos) which they knew would not go unnoticed by media and fans. As we saw, it was an impossible task. Slip ups occurred. Even amateur sleuths in this thread can produce deadly revealing stuff, let alone media companies with resources! There was ample fodder for runaway rumours to create havoc. Therefore, for them to do a post-CLoY interview with all this noise in the background, would have been to walk into the lion’s den. Too risky.

 

The silver lining is that their choices tell me how much HB and SYJ wanted to work together. One could say almost desperate to work together and soon, at that. They risked so much to do CLoY together. That yearning must mean something. It tempts me to think that they saw their relationship as potentially more and thus CLoY might be their final opportunity to act together as professional “soloists” and they went for it. Incredibly brave. There must be plenty of screenplays out there that couples/husband-wife actors could pull off with panache but then again, I’m not in K-ent. I am deeply touched by what BinJin risked and did to protect each other.

 

Thanking fans? BinJin gave us an unforgettable show and gifted us with sneak peeks into their private world. Being A-listers with clout, they could have requested TvN to let their agencies vet all the bts before releasing them but they didn’t. They let us see firsthand, their affection for each other that were captured in the bts. To me, that was their mighty thank-you to us fans. That said, I certainly won’t say No to seeing photos of their wedding, honeymoon, new home, vacations, kid’s first birthday, daddy HB’s birthday, mommy SYJ’s birthday etc etc etc.

Hyun Bin is looking at his sleeping girlfriend next to him with a smile. She looks so peaceful and he loves to see her bare face the most. To him, she is the prettiest when she is in her own skin without any make up on. He kisses her forehead gently and continue staring at her. He feels like he is the luckiest man in this world to be her lover. She makes him feels complete and he even think of having a future with her. He is trying to figure out the exact moment he fell in love with her. Was it the time when they did a reshoot for The Negotiation in 2018? Was it after he broke up with his then girlfriend? Or was it actually even before that? When they were filming the film together? He tried to figure it out but maybe the saying is true, when you meet your true love, you can't really pin point the exact moment you fell in love because your heart had recognize her before you know it. People did said she is his rebound but he does not think so. On the contrary, he thinks she is destined for him.

The Negotiation had a lot of stage greetings in all parts of Korea.CLOY only had interviews.I wish they are in a movie again and do a lot of stage greetings.Or maybe a drama would be better since the filming is long.

Damn, you echoed my thoughts completely! I also kept thinking about PSJ and PMY and the dating rumours that plagued them right after WWWSK ended and how all their post-drama interviews revolved around that. They kept saying in every interview that they weren’t together but the media and fans kept hounding them about it, to the point where the whole ordeal left them both hella frustrated. I really don’t want BJ to go through all that, yet again, (even if they are actually together) because CLOY was a labour of love for them, above all else. It may have manifested for BJ because they wanted to work together in a rom-com so bad (cue HB telling everyone in sight during the TN promos that he essentially wanted to be her on screen lover with no monitors in sight LOL) but the script and cross-border implications made CLOY so much more than just a simple romance. 
 

I’ve also been reading a lot of old articles about CLOY (from when it was first announced) and it was truly a very risky project for both TVN and BJ. All the comments kept saying how terrible the script would be or how BJ was just a big PR stunt to promote the drama. South Korea is weary about anything involving North Korea nowadays plus the general public was already mad at BJ for not confirming their relationship (even though they would’ve ripped into them for taking up a drama as a couple) so it was just a mess in every aspect. Needless to say, CLOY was a serious risk and its success was not guaranteed in the way that other dramas are, despite the famous writer and A-list leads. The fact that CLOY not only crushed domestic ratings (and with less episodes than the other dramas) but also achieved worldwide acclaim is awe-inspiring, unprecedented and a testament to months of hard work from the cast and crew. This was an underdog effort despite the A-list power of BJ and I know they’re immensely relieved and proud of its success (and probably laughing at how fate works) - so now that I’ve thought about it a bit more, I’m truly happy if they’re happy, even without post-CLOY interviews.
 

Oh, and I found another article about the show’s relevancy! This article talks about the most streamed Netflix shows for the last week and CLOY is the third most watched Netflix show in the world!!!!!! Almost two months since it ended!! Now THAT is what I call a true masterpiece in every possible aspect. Oh, and the writer of the article also said CLOY is hands down their favourite out of all the shows they’ve watched on Netflix this year
