KDramaFan0828
@ck1Oz Yes, I get what you mean with Reply 1988. R1988 has put a lot more focus outside romance than HP so far. Probably because the main characters of Reply 1988 are still living with their families? And the most family dynamics we've seen so far in HP are the glimpses on the patients, and and some from the mains (Ikjun-Iksun, Ikjun-Uju, Rosa-Jeongwon). I am also enjoying the band sessions and analyzing how the songs play into the narrative. They are related to the lovelines still though HAHA. I'm really impressed with the cast's dedication to learn and perform the songs themselves. And being a theater fan, I guess I have a soft spot for the cast as a lot of them have a theater background.

Popular Post superspace
You would realize that you watch too many Hospital Playlist videos if you get this Shin Won-ho PD interview as recommendation! Unfortunately, it has no subtitle and I am not Korean expert. So don't expect much because I only relied 100% to my 15 years experience watching Kdramas & Kshows Below are my short summary from the interview: 4:20: The interview started with facts of all dramas directed by Shin PD have been succeeded (Reply Series, Prison Playbook & Hospital Playlist). However Shin PD said he never expected or maybe always be confidence from the beginning that all of his dramas would be successful. As many of you probably know already, Reply 1997 as the 1st drama that he directed (He used to be Variety Show PD) was plan as a trial drama which even he predicted to be a failure. 5:50: They finally talked about Hospital Playlist. Shin PD said He want to make a medical drama/hospital setting drama which is unlike most other medical dramas that focus more on medical procedures, Hospital Playlist will tell more behind story of doctors/nurses who are working in hospital. I think I heard he said that doctors are human too just like everyone else. I also remember he also said the same thing on HP press conference: " I worked hard to create a relatable story. Overall, I think comfort is knowing ‘You feel the way I feel.’ We prepared a story that will make many viewers cry, applaud, and feel touched.” 6:20: The most touch part of interview -- when Shin PD said that the writer (Lee) have prepared for long time and worked very hard (for Hospital Playlist) --> Maybe besides they need to do serious research on medical things (doctor specialization, diseases, medical procedures, patients), they also need to develop many realistic character with relatable & touching stories. I am very thankful to yout, Lee Writer-nim! The funny thing from the interview, Jo se-ho (the interviewer) representing all of us who are curious whether Hospital Playlist would also has husband hunting mission likes Reply series. But very unfortunately the timing is over and they have to move on on another topic --> or maybe it is confidential bcs HP is still airing now. The rest of interview talking about Shin's journey as PD starting from documentary and variety show to drama. He did not always succeed from the beginning, had a difficult time and faced many challenges. He choose Don't worry - Lee Juck (Reply 1988 ost) as his life soundtrack. Because it bring out consolation that life is hard but don't worry to much and just let the past be the past --> I think this is the advice that we really need now as being too anxious waiting for the last episode After watching this interview, I feel that Shin PD is very gentle and sincere person that always want to create heart-warmed and full-message stories through the dramas that he directed. That's why, regardless how the story will be end in Season 1, how all love lines will be executed and how different our opinion regarding love lines or the ending, I hope we will still appreciate, love and be thankful to all people who are contributing to produce such a beautiful, meaningful and entertaining drama like Hospital Playlist. Truly, Hospital Playlist has become my company, consolation and stress reliever during this COVID 19 outbreak. I'm almost crying now -- imagine how empty next week without HP and maybe also start "new normal life" living with COVID19. Anyway, let's start counting down the hours to the last episode!! Helena
https://zapzee.net/2020/05/27/stars-of-the-dramas-are-singing-their-own-ost-leaving-a-strong-aftertaste/ Stars of the Dramas Are Singing Their Own OST, Leaving a Strong Aftertaste By krishkim Soundtracks represent the emotions of characters or the mood of the play. Famous singers often enrich the drama’s afterglow with appealing vocals, but the cast sometimes sing their own songs to narrow the distance between the characters and the viewers. Good Casting and Hospital Playlist are good examples. Hospital Playlist – Jo Jung Suk & Jeon Mi Do Hospital Playlist‘s plan to make two leading actors into singers worked out perfectly. Jo Jung Suk’s “AROHA” and Jeon Mi Do’s “I Knew I Love” are receiving great results in music charts. Both songs are remakes of original songs released in the 2000s. “AROHA” is a song from Cool’s album First Whisper released in 2001, and was a hit at the time of its release. “I Knew I Love” is a song by Shin Hyo Bum released in 2006. In particular, Jo Jung Suk and Jeon Mi Do attracted more attention in that they are already proven singers. Jo Jung Suk was recognized for both his singing and acting prowess through various musicals, including Hedwig, Jewel in the Palace, and Blood Brothers. Jeon Mi Do is also a prominent musical actor who is much loved by fans for her solid singing skills shown in various musicals such as Mr. Mouse, Doctor Zhivago, Sweeney Todd, and Werther. Following “AROHA,” which showed off Jo Jung Seok’s sweet voice, Hospital Playlistalso released “Deep in the Night,” which was reinterpreted with Jo Jung Seok’s own vibes based on punk sounds. Spoiler Good Casting – Lee Sang Yeob & Lee Jun Young Good Casting adds to the drama’s lingering aftertaste with songs sung by Lee Sang Yeob and Lee Jun Young. First, Lee Sang Yeob’s “Red Bag” is a song that Yoon Suk Ho serenaded for Baek Chan Mi using a red bag that they have special memories about in a lovely way. The song, released as the OST, has been arranged to reflect the pounding heart toward Baek Chan Mi, further enlivening the romance. “Let’s Love” is a duet song by Lee Jung Young and Laboum’s main vocalist Soyeon. It expresses honest feelings about love from the perspective of both a man and a woman. The soft vocals of the two are mixed well to add excitement to the play. celebrianna
The two, I assume, official music videos are simply lovely. JJS and JMD sing so well. I love both songs and I’m not surprised at all that they’re doing well on the music charts. In particular, JMD’s video seems to highlight the love lines for Wintergarden and IkSong. What about Junwan and Ik Sun and SH and his loveline. It would have been nice to see those as well. 4
Popular Post __jesse
Tomorrow is D-Day and I’m so not ready to say goodbye (albeit temporary) to HP. For the record, of course I have my favourite ships, but my main purpose of writing these posts is to show my appreciation to the pd and writer for creating this amazing drama with so much depth. *finger hearts* Long post ahead with lots of images. Needed to take lots of screenshots to explain everything, so please bear with me. Re: Marriage In ep 11, the colours red and blue which symbolise marriage appeared again, this time in the form of red and blue posters in the karaoke room. Note that this particular camera framing was only used with Songhwa, Ikjun and Junwan inside. While Ikjun was singing, we saw two flashbacks: Spoiler One was when Ikjun bought a ring for Songhwa, preparing to confess to her. He was wearing red and blue. Spoiler The second flashback showed Iksun telling Junwan about her ex-boyfriend, revealing the reason behind her fear towards marriage. Behind Junwan were blue curtains and behind Iksun was a red towel, showing how marriage is always at the back of their minds, weighing them down. Spoiler Turned out both boys have/had bought rings to propose/confess. It’s interesting to note how the words “propose” and “confess” have been used loosely and interchangeably in HP. Ikjun was only planning to confess, but he bought a ring for Songhwa. During the Rose Operation, Ikjun said Gyeoul received a proposal, when he really meant a confession. I think that underlines what it entails when you enter a relationship when you're 40 years old. Naturally, the topic of marriage will surface, and it’s important that both parties' expectations are aligned so as to not waste each other’s time. Re: 04:33 When Ikjun went to buy a ring, all the clocks in the shop were pointing at 4:33pm. Ikjun’s handphone also showed 04:33. It’s definitely no coincidence because 4:33 also appeared in Reply 1988: Spoiler In Taek appa’s Phoenix Shop, the clocks always showed different times. Except that one scene in episode 6, when they were waiting for the competition results, all the clocks showed 4:33pm. According to a staff member on set, Shin pd had specifically requested for the clocks to adjusted to 4:33pm. What does 4:33 mean? 4’33” is a three-movement composition by John Cage. It is his most famous and controversial piece because during the performance, the pianist did nothing. He clicked on a stopwatch, opened and closed the piano lid a few times, and when 4 minutes and 33 seconds passed, he stood up, bowed and left. The deafening sound of silence The audience was expecting a music performance. But instead, there was nothing but silence. Inside the concert hall, the silence was amplified by social etiquette which requires the audience to keep quiet. When Ikjun bought the ring, he was planning to confess. Little did he expect that he would end up keeping silent for the next 20 years. Silence speaks louder than words “There's no such thing as silence. What they thought was silence, because they didn't know how to listen, was full of accidental sounds.” – John Cage 4’33” was a challenge to the concept of music. The incidental sounds made by the wind, the rain and the audience became the music itself. Ikjun stayed silent for 20 years. But that didn’t mean he had stopped loving Songhwa. If you listened carefully, you’d realise that he continued to express his love in other ways. In Reply 1988, 4:33 marked the end of Taek’s silence: Spoiler Reply 1988 was a long figurative game of baduk. Because Taek was a 6-dan player, he was given a handicap of 5 stones (episodes). Hence, he only made his first move in episode 6. In HP, 4:33 could also mark the end of Ikjun’s silence, after he was being forced to confess. All along, Ikjun has always sacrificed himself for other people: for Seokhyung’s friendship, for his wife’s career, for Uju. It’s about time Ikjun considers his own feelings and happiness too. Btw, I also think Ikjun knows that Junwan and Iksun are dating. The question is, since when? Spoiler Perhaps ever since he saw the nickname “My Love, Bidulgi”. Spoiler Ikjun kept his eyes on Junwan as he walked past and said, “This chilly weather is making me miss my sister. That never happened to me.” 15 2 5 5

Popular Post __jesse
Re: Crossing and drawing the line Much has been discussed about Chihong crossing the line, and Songhwa drawing the line. I plan to do a character analysis on Chihong, so more on that later. From a cinematography POV, lines are often used as a metaphor in film. A recent example of this was in Parasite: Spoiler Parasite talks about the social divide in South Korea, drawing a line between the rich and the poor. And in this example, the housekeeper briefly crossed that line between her and the house-owner. Back to HP: Shin pd has been using lines to illustrate how relationships have progressed and evolved over time. First, let’s look at the scene when Songhwa came over to take care of Uju. Ikjun stood at the door, watching Songhwa and Uju sleeping. He couldn’t bring himself to cross the line. Spoiler Songhwa woke up, and asked what Ikjun was cooking for breakfast. Now’s her turn to stand at the line which separated them. Spoiler Songhwa crossed the line first when she entered the kitchen. Spoiler Then, Ikjun followed suit and crossed the line too. Now they’re both sharing the same space. Spoiler But of course, relationships aren’t as simple as crossing a single line. From outside the window, we saw how the two of them repeatedly crossed the line and then backed off again. Perhaps with time (or rain), the line between them will finally be erased. Next, let’s look at the scene when Jeongwon met Gyeoul outside ER. There were SO MANY LINES separating Jeongwon and Gyeoul. He stopped for a second, standing near the arrow which pointed towards God, contemplating if he should cross the line. And he did. He plucked up the courage to cross numerous lines to stand near Gyeoul. But no matter how the camera angle changed, there was always that one last line which separated the two of them. He simply couldn’t bring himself to cross it. I found two instances where Jeongwon finally crossed that last line, and both happened in the operating room during Gyeoul’s first surgery. Spoiler Here, Gyeoul literally drew a line between her and Jeongwon. But he crossed it, and erased it. Spoiler Outside the OR, as the camera panned across, the line separating them disappeared. The surgery was extra meaningful because it was Jeongwon who initiated it. He, who didn’t let any other doctors lead paediatric surgeries, chose to let Gyeoul do it. Also, if he were indeed determined to leave in a month’s time, why did he bother training her considering that the department would soon be closed after he leaves? Spoiler After the surgery, when Rosa saw Jeongwon and Gyeoul, they were sharing the same space, no longer separated by any lines. Even though it was a public area with others around, they looked as if they were in their own world. 17 5 5 28

I wonder why SongHwa seems annoyed by Ikjun and Junwan when Ikjun said they will play it next time. Hmm that is because Ikjun was teasing Songhwa's tone deafness, and not really his intention for them to play that song next (the same reason why she gave a irritated face when she heard the melody of their first band song - It is very difficult to sing - even for IJ!) "Love Over a Thousand Years" - link below. Skip to the chorus (from 1:20) There is alot of 'screeching' needed to belt this song. There is a pretty famous chinese remake of this same song (you will see what I mean by 'difficult' to sing ^^)
alleram95
Season 1 Finale D-1 Main 5 pick favorite scenes Ik Jun (Jo Jung Seok) Pick 'Scenes that made you feel about family love' -> The scene of visiting Ik Sun's military unit was short but I remembered it as a very impressive scene. Actually I don't have a younger sister but that scene give me a new feel of family love. -> Actually I like all the scenes where the five actors are together. Scenes at Tteokbokki restaurant is more memorable because we laughed and enjoyed it so much while shooting it. Jung Won (Yoo Yeon Seok) Pick 'Because I knew about the efforts, I love it more' -> Actually, if I have to chose my favorite scene, it is the scene of all band performances that have been aired so far. -> Among them, I'd like to pick Canon performances as one of the best. I have more affection with that scene because the five of us knew how hard we worked for that song. Joon Wan (Jung Kyung Ho) Pick 'The beginning of back-and-forth chemistry of 5 people (at Kalguksu restaurant)' -> It is a scene that show the star of back-and-forth banter and chemistry among the 5 peiple and it is also a scene that show the begining of muk-bang (eating show) between Song Hwa and Joon Wan -> All band scenes from ep 1 to 12 are memorable. We have all taken lesson before shooting the drama and it's a time for Mido and Parasol gather together to practice and play together. And all the effort is shown at the drama shootings and every moment of band performances scenes in the drama were an enjoyable one. Seok Hyung (Kim Dae Myung) Pick 'A scene that show the growth (as a doctor and as a person)' -> The scene where Min Ha honestly shared what she had in mind, it is scenes where show more growth for both Seok Hyung and Min Ha as a human and as a doctor. -> Another one is the scene where Seok Hyung comforts the pregnant patient who suffers repeatitive miscarriage (that miscarriage is not a dieaseas). It seems many people symphathized with Seok Hyung's unique and sincere comfort method. Song Hwa (Jeon Mi Do) Pick 'A scene where I was laughing but made me feels emotional' -> A scene from ep 7 where ot4 comforts Seok Hyung. We shoot that scene with a smile (on our faces) but strangely I felt emotional. To Seok Hyeong, it would be more comforting than any words. -> Also, the scene of 5 people gathering inside a small warehouse. It seemed we enter the past as the warehouse door opened. It looked like I was back in my 20s and I felt something peculiar about it Joon Wan and Jung Won Pick 'Mido and Parasol performance' -> Jung Won, "Every band performance in every episode is my favorite" -> Joon Wan, "it's a time for Mido and Parasol gather together to practice and play together. And all the effort is shown at the drama shootings and every moment of band performances scenes in the drama were an enjoyable one." ---------- Jo Yi Hyun (Jang Yun Bok) shares her thoughts about the end of season 1. (source: https://n.news.naver.com/entertain/article/003/0009884530) Through her management (ArtistCompany), she shares her thoughts and feelings about the end of season 1 'Wise Doctor Life' "I acted as Jang Yun Bok, a medical student in 'Wise Doctor Life'. Together with my twin Jang Hong Do (Bae Hyun Sung), our character work hard to learn and grow from our seniors. It was an honor to act as Jang Yun Bok, the youngest at Yulje Medical Centre. I am very grateful to Shin Won Ho PD, Writer Lee Woo Jung and to all the staffs at the shooting location for always encouraging and supporting me. For being able to act together with my seniors, every minute and every second of it was a precious time and memorable. To the viewers, thank you for showing interest and support for Jang Yun Bok and Jang Hong Do. I'll always remember Yun Bok who always did her best and I'll always work hard to show how I've improve as a good actor. I wish you will stay tune to watch the last episode." ---------- Jo Jung Seok shares his thoughts about the end of season 1. (source: https://n.news.naver.com/entertain/article/241/0003026368) Through his management, he shares "I hope through our drama 'Wise Doctor Life', many people were able to receive a small healing and good energy during the difficult time. I think we could finish making the drama thanks to all the staffs and actors who worked hard and to the viewers who gave out lots of love and affection. I was really happy to be able to do a good project and character, but it was more special to be able meet with good people. At the shooting place, there's always a feeling of happiness and it was fun so I was sad that it has ended. However, as the drama is seasonal, I will work hard to prepare for the next season and will come back again." ---------- 12
