CSH's world

After analyzing so many drawings from the drama, I had come to the conclusion that the darker the picture is, the bigger and the stronger the hurdle is for CSH and KJH. However, I also made another observation: the time is also important. CSH is often connected to the moon and as such to the night, while KJH is associated to the sun and daylight. That's the reason why we see this drawing at the end of the episode 5.

 

As conclusion, CSH's world is the night. If we look back at the drawing from the episode 5 in the beginning, we see CSH and KJH walking together during the night.

And this is no coincidence because it happened after KJH had made the decision to step into her world. And her world is the night. Yet you might argue that in some drawings, we see the sun and it is daytime, like this one.

However, KJH is still in her world as he stays by her side. Yet, we should perceive it that way: KJH has just entered her world and he is able to bring sunlight, joy and cheerfulness in her life. Remember that in the episode 6, CSH decided to buy a necktie for the first time, she also took his hand for the first time, she even put him the necktie around his neck, she even dared to confess that they were in a some-relationship. All this showed that KJH as sunlight had brought life into her world... that's why the night was not visible. However, we shouldn't forget that CSH kept saying that the closer KJH got to her, the more scared she became that his life might be shaken. That's why throughout the episodes, the night became more and more dominant indicating that KJH penetrated deeper and deeper into her world and her heart. Therefore we always see the night as background in the drawings from the last episodes.

Striking is the drawing from the episode 13 which represents such a contrast to the drawing from the episode 6 (third picture above). In both drawings, we have water elements (sea vs. lake), just like our heroine is in the front, while KJH is standing behind her. Then we have a light too (sun vs. star). By comparing both pictures, the viewer can realize the huge contrast between the illustrations.

First we see the change of the dynamic in their relationship. While in the episode 6, KJH serves as a guide, although he is standing behind CSH, in the episode 13 she is now the guide and leader in their relationship. Remember that now KJH lets CSH do what she wants, as he said that he wanted to remain by her side for a long time. Then whereas the sea through the waves represented the source of danger but also life, here the sea is actually frozen. It was as if it was dead... Furthermore we have spring and daytime in the drawing 6, on the other hand it is night and winter (see the trees behind in the background). To conclude, the episode 13 illustrates how deep KJH has entered CSH's world, yet he has not been able to remove all her worries and to change her world completely. First, the star disappears and this star embodies CSH's love for KJH. It gives her strength and guidance. So the disappearance means that her attitude towards her love has changed. What caught my attention is we see a white butterfly leaving CSH's body and touching KJH's body which makes KJH disappear and he appears on the other side of the frozen lake.  Then I would like here to remind the drawing of the episode 3:

a red butterfly touched the eye of the princess which affected her. Back then, it meant KJH as the butterfly brought back CSH to life. And now, it is the opposite. The butterfly leaves CSH's body which means that CSH is actually rejecting KJH's presence in her life. That's why he disappears and leaves her world. However the positive aspect is that he doesn't leave her side, he remains walking by her side but on the other side. However, this could be seen as an indication that KJH is not aware of the rejection and that he will remain loyal to her, even if she breaks up with him. So the visit of KJH's mother and her rejection was just the trigger for CSH to change her mind. Actually, this drawing illustrates that CSH had been waiting for a signal. We have to imagine that CSH has learnt from an early age on to listen to others and indirectly to take care of others. She paid so much attention to her surroundings that's why she was always so obedient. She tried to please anyone around her to the point (her parents but also JMJ like f. ex. the cover up with the concert) that she would neglect her own life. Just like KJH, CSH has always prioritized the others in her life. KJH never showed his worries to others. Yet, KJH is different from CSH in one aspect: he is very stubborn and once he has decided something, he won't change his mind. So he will never give up on his love for CSH, no matter what people say or his parents think. His love has become his priority, here CSH was different. She wasn't stubborn enough, her ability to please others was much stronger... The explanation is simple: her surroundings were different. CSH was forced to live like that and she has internalized this attitude, while for KJH, it was more a choice.

 

That's why I believe that CSH didn't lie to KJH's mother, when she explained that she was not the reason for the break up. Sure, she was the trigger for the break up. CSH has always felt cursed: she would bring misery to others. She had always longed for a loving family and she couldn't bare the thought of destroying KJH's happy family.

So if we compare JWS and KJH, we can observe another difference and resemblance: both spend their "honeymoon" in Spain. Remember that JWS traveled to Spain for business and CSH came along. She wanted to follow the path of the artist in order to understand better the paintings and see the difference between the pictures and the reality. They took a car and traveled to the West (direction: Portugal). So their trip looked like a modern pilgrimage. JWS has a good memory of it (CSH was not so cold towards him) and since no honeymoon was ever mentioned, we can assume that this represented a sort of honeymoon.

And here, we have KJH proposing a pilgrimage too: Santiago. It starts from South-West France and ends in North-West Spain, Santiago de la Compostela. The huge difference is that you walk for that pilgrimage. You are surrounded by nature too. So their trip is quite similar but the huge difference is again nature vs. modern civilization (car, air conditioning).

After I rewatched, I found out the KJH and CSH have mutually initiated their relationship with actions in each style unstoppably. 

 

When CSH saw KJH’s note at Cuba Cafe, he was glad to prove that he was interested in CSH before but actually he did not know the fact as audiences knew that

- CSH who used to focus only the Donghwa hotel business; however, she was anxious to go meeting KJH at the morning appointment , rather than hotel business which she had to sign revised clause in the additional contract. Plus, CSH rushed to Cuba cafe but too late.  

 

KJH might be slightly proud to chase CSH before, it is not as gossip that CEO forced a young employee to go along. 

 

However, audiences knew that it is mutual initiative mind and actions with

- hesitation at the very beginning (KJH:when found out CSH is CEO. CSH:when found out KJH is Employee), 

- CSH’s fears from KJH’s impact in the middle, and 

- CSH’s step back by KJH’s mother’s reminder of curse.

 

I guessed that after meeting with KJH’s mom, CSH did not promptly run to KJH because she might evaluate whether she can be back indeed.

The whole episode 2 shows us CSH seeking out KJH and not the other way around. Yet, I believe that CSH wouldn't have made it too obvious if KJH hadn't caught her at the playground. The playground marks the beginning of their love: KJH will pursue CSH. Since I paid attention to the takings of hands, I would like to analyze this scene from the episode 2:

 

So CSH is about to leave KJH after  playing with him and offering the white howl. She is about to open her car door, when she stops. Interesting is that the director uses this taking. He focuses on her hand. The viewer might question the reason. KJH's hand is not shown before or after. Remember how I had described that KJH used his hand to approach CSH and get closer to her. CSH's hand here should be perceived in the same way, although she is not approaching our hero directly. This zoom underlines one aspect: her gesture shows that she has changed her mind as she doesn't open the door. In fact, she turns around and asks KJH about the phone call. The hand gesture marks a turning point, it even has an impact in their relationship, although it doesn't interact with KJH's hand directly. It reveals that

- CSH had observed KJH silently (the phone call at 12:42)

- She had even noticed his smile

For KJH, this was a signal that CSH was indeed interested in him... The signal he had been waiting for. Besides, the driver Nam is another witness of this scene. He noticed that CSH was interested in KJH as she stopped and even asked a question before leaving.
