Finally, the mother who asked not to forget her child (after his death) because she had at least good memories of him... In my opinion, Kim Shin considers memories as something negative. He is too focused on death. Like JET mentioned to Sunny, where is death, there is life. Life is so bright... From the start, Kim Shin thinks more about death than life. He took God's words too literally. God told him, he would never forget any single death, but he never said that Kim Shin shouldn't enjoy the time spent with them. He only sees the end (death) and doesn't enjoy the journey (life). I guess, his attempt to lessen JET's pain by erasing his presence is totally wrong because he robs from her beautiful moments as well.

@bebebisous33 just thinking... there are just one Wrath or punishment that are more severe than death itself... that is to wiped off the memories of someone you loved from yourself, or to cast your loved ones to forget you.... when in truth, memories itself when losing it, sometimes is worst than death itself.
this show from ep1 to ep13, and even 14. never fail to tie down wrath and rewards (which is two sides of a mirror in fact, what we see as negatives may be position)
what if, after all, KES trying to show another aspect of forgetting your loved ones.... that is, if you are predestinated to love someone.... no matter how bad you lost your memories, you will remember her/ him again... which means even if ET has her memories wiped 3 or 4 times, she will all in love again, and again, and again, over all for him. just like Drew barrymore's "50 First Dates". its will still be ET's First Love, First Kiss.

KES, maybe asking for ShinTak to have hot skinship scenes... actually the second leads are very good in them also... really waht a waste... both on screen and off screen. these 2 sets of OTP really oozes appeals till nose bled level.... if really want to pick 'bones out from eggs' in this flawless drama, i guess its the waste of using the already proven skill of all 3 artistes Gongyoo and GoEun and even Lee Dongwook.... even Sunny's character maybe the active ones if "your idea" come to pass.... she might have an awesome extensive wardrobe ready.... Yoo Inna is to be trifled with. it will be fun, really fun for comical moments sake, to see Sunny trying to seduce Yeo.. and Yeo goes "what .. what are u doing..." even that Sunny's sexiness is dosed with elegance too.

just want to add something i kept wanted to comment and forget... in too many dramas, you kept seeing the production and the writernim throw in lots of 'skin-showing"... it is either female leads kept wearing clothes that show lots of skins, or having male leads doing some unnecessarily shower-scenes.. totally uncalled for... and also to throw in skinship right at beginning of show... KimEunsook has this confidence in her work, and TvN this present production crew has the courage not to go into that, to use excess skinship and overly showing leads in "showing lots of skins" kind of wardrobe... in fact even Sunny is well-wraped thru out the whole drama, only at that scene ep13 where Yeo was stalking her, then she wore this mini skirt thing... i loved how the wardrobe goes in this drama,,, not just about going branded,.. but going elegant and classy, even simple, simplicity is beauty!

Speaking of angels, I like to imagine that there are three Archangels in the Goblin/Reaper’s residence. (They’re siblings so they have joint ownership. Lol.)  What do you think? In the Catholic tradition, there are three notable archangels, Michael, Gabriel and Rafael.

Shin will be St. Michael the archangel. He’s the most famous one. Like Shin, he leads God's army against satan's forces. With his sword, he safeguards against the wickedness. And similar to how Shin fought the evil Eunuch, he “casts the evil spirits who wander through the world seeking the ruin of souls.”  (lol. That phrase actually came from the Prayer of St. Michael, a prayer said after Holy Communion.) 

On a sidenote:

My favorite meeting spot in the Latin Quarter of Paris is in front of the St. Michael’s fountain on Blvd Saint Michel. lol.

It would have been funny if they shot the "fountain scene" in Episode 4 here.

The Reaper is the archangel Gabriel. Gabriel is the angel who delivered the life-changing news to Mary that she’d become the mother of Jesus. And this fits the Reaper’s role as the messenger of God. He delivers the death announcements. I know: some people will protest that Gabriel delivers good news about LIFE, while Reaper delivers the opposite, the end-of-life, Death.

But if people look at death as another door to AFTERLIFE, then Death itself isn’t that terminal after all. 

Also, I’ve to mention this now because viewers are finally realizing that punishment isn’t the raison d’etre of being a reaper. The Reaper isn’t JUST someone consigned to do a penitential service because of a past crime. There’s more to the job description than crime and punishment. 

I think the ET and the Butterfly God/DH hinted at this, back in Episode 3.

When she and Shin drank at that juice bar, ET wondered why the Reaper was so “unnecessarily handsome.” She suggested that attractive people are chosen for the job since the spirits of the dead will follow attractive people more willingly. Shin then asked if he too was good-looking and ET teased him by equivocating.  Laster on, she did admit that he looked “cool” after he performed one of his saving miracles of two unknown couples.

When he arrived home, Shin was surprised by Butterfly god/DH who exclaimed that Shin looked “cool” as a man in a portrait. Butterfly god/DH wondered aloud if he would become a grim reaper when he died. He described a reaper as someone who “when you open the door at the end of the hall that is life, that’s when you face death. And the Grim Reaper greets them at the door.”

Two things.

One, ET and the Butterfly God/DH were UNCANNILY in sync with their views on Shin (How cool!) and the grim reapers (They’re friendly, welcoming bunch of people...among other things).  

This wasn’t the first time that Butterfly God/DH showed that he and ET have a lot in common. He's shown a marked favoritism towards ET (I still owe you @nearsea a post on this one; I haven’t forgotten. And yes, he lied to ET, twice, but for a GOOD reason….) 

 

Two, the image I have of a grim reaper was this:

Death awaits Shin. But his sister, the Reaper, welcomes him, so he won’t be frightened. 

 

 

Additionally, in Episode 13, Sunny asked ET why Shin became a goblin. Without hesitation, ET answered that it was to bestow miracles on good people when they least expected it. But when Sunny asked about the Reaper, ET couldn’t seem to answer her directly.

From dramafever sub: Because life is a bit lonely since death exists. 

Dramabeans had a different interpretation. “Eun-tak doesn’t really know what to tell her, so she says that it’s because there is death that life shines.”

For me, the ambivalence -- or the uncertainty -- of ET's answer (even the subbers/recappers couldn't agree, lol) indicated that the question about the Reaper's true identity is NOT resolved as others here like to think it is. ET wasn’t decisive in her answer because she was still thinking it through.

Anyway, to continue.

Last, but not least, ET is Raphael, the healing archangel. Being with her rejuvenated Shin. My two fondest memories of her healing him were when Shin slept on the floor, and when he freaked out about his hand.

She also nursed Sunny when she was sick in Episode 11. I’ve to mention this, too. Sunny took ill AFTER Shin had finished disclosing what really happened to Kim Sun. His explanation of his sister’s attempt to save her foolish husband was the trigger. In my opinion, Sunny became physically ill because of guilt. She had a psychosomatic reaction to the realization that Queen actually loved the King, and the Queen was wrongly put to death. The King always thought that he was unloved. 

The way ET physically took care of Sunny is the same way she spiritually took care of the other ghosts. ET’s good deeds with the ghosts "healed" them so they could go off to the afterlife. In this sense, ET behaved like a reaper, too, because she prepared these ghosts for the next journey.

I’ve been toying with the idea of angels since DH said the password was angel. I know some of you thought it was a self-reference; that DH was referring to himself as the angel. At first, I only considered ET because her identity was the only one unknown. But when DH took a picture of the three together with ET's brand new camera, I wondered if he meant them all to be angels.

The three of them = three archangels. They were the favored ones. The gods LISTENED to them. The King was dead wrong when he said that the gods didn't listen to Shin, Sun, and their people, because the gods did.   

Frankly, I don’t think the King was part of the holy trifecta. He seemed to have been claimed by the Eunuch as his son.

And the Butterfly God/DH had a sly way of saying that he didn’t like her. Watch his backhanded compliment, “punished by your presence.”

Hmmmm.....since pronouns are nonexistent in Korean, I'm now beginning to wonder if the Butterfly God/DH was actually saying, "You (as in Sunny) are being punished. I must be your punishment." 

 

 

Oh well. Who knows, though? There’s still the God of Love in the equation….Although the King was insolent when he threw the jade ring at the old Grandma, SHE could still overlook that and forgive him.  In the same token, being in ET’s circle of friendship can be restorative for Sunny. All hope is not lost.

Here are things I would like to see in the next episodes, in no particular order –

1. Shin will “come walking in the rain and go in blue flames” to collect his possessions.
2. ET will finally catch that elusive petal of the cherry blossom in spring time, so her first love will come true.
3. Shin will receive the letter she wrote when she was 19 years old. (I had the similar kind of mailbox in my old apartment. I worried that a letter would somehow get stuck in the chute on its way down, so I never dropped important letters there.)
4. ET will finally know why he was waiting for her with the buckwheat bouquet in hand. -- Or wasn’t he?
5. The Shaman’s third sister is Quebecoise. (just joking).
6. Shin and ET will have children – to prove wrong that folklore stating goblins don’t have families. 
7. Lady Reaper/Poison Maker will spill the beans that Sunny was King in her vision.
8. Shin’s right hand man plays an important role. Either with or against the Secretary/Chairman Kim.  
9. Reaper finds his destined true love…not fated true love. Since the Fates are unkind to him and Sunny, they might as well seek their Destiny instead.
10. Sunny rehabilitates for good…and no loan sharks. 
11. DH becomes a cool uncle.
