I was wondering if MY is dead

Not sure.  Although (only because I am busy playing catch up and reading from the start), if he's a key character I am wondering why he was a no show at the Press Con and instead CPrincess appeared instead?  Unless they felt like the line up was already very male heavy and had to throw another female in there to soften it somewhat.  I feel like it's a bit early to kill him off right now?  There is one bit that troubles me.  I know a few here feel like he missed seeing his father killed by KCE which is why he ended up agreeing to be his henchman.  Personally I feel like he knew he was in bed with the enemy and was forced into it by circumstances that unfolded.  Unless I missed something, his sister and he were running away after their father was killed (his father's last words were to "survive and live on")...he hid her and sacrifices himself by leading the search party away from her...then he appears in KCE's courtyard threatening to kill his daughter and tells him to call off the hunt (so he knows KCE is the msatermind behind it)...KCE disarms him and could've killed him off there...but a deal was struck then...his sister's liberty for his enslavement to KCE (which had an end point - till the death of LY)?  Is that what transpired?  Then it would make sense that MY packed his bags after the final act and walked away after he farewells CPrincess.  He adheres to his father's final wish to "survive and live on" despite having to fraternize with the enemy in exchange for his sister's life.  I am still not convinced he is the father of her unborn child though...seems rather crass of him to leave her if he knew that to be true...I still feel like theirs is a secret forbidden love that grew over time which was unspoken and never consummated.

I am also wondering if HS's adopted father may well have been in cahoots too?  Initially I thought maybe he was just blundering along but perhaps what transpired was that MY arranged for him to care for his sister in his absence...maybe that's why those mountain trips were a necessity for information exchange or the like... Just thinking out loud. MY seemed pretty certain in his mind that once he finished his mission, he would be able to take HS away and live a quiet life away from all the turmoil and politics and "live on" like his father demanded them to do.

EDIT- apologies if I piggy backed off someone else's prophetic theory already from previous pages about MY and HS's adoptive father.  I skimmed a lot of the previous pages.

Re Royal Inspector

Hi everyone — remember Hong Shim Yi Suh’s family belongs to a right hand man of the former killed King and she can read and write and trained intelligently like her brother.  When WD was already fast asleep she looked at his hands trying to know why his hands are beautiful and then she sneakout to locate his father as she was really disturbed of who is WD. However, in the place where her dad usually stays she found the guy who accidently tripped the “soup lady” and he was holding the royal inspector stick but because she can read she knows what’s written on the golden stick.

The Ledger, WD bought a ledger because somehow not told and showed directly; he find the magistrate and nobleman corrupt as these two protects the loanshark Ma Chil.  It was odd for HS but she easily got it when she received the message from the young slave.  I don’t know where the ledger was bought though that’s why I shared earlier why episode 7 was off of some story part.

PS: the former King who was killed to transfer the throne to the brother King now I think opposes the VM’s. It’s always the VM’s thing to stirr people that’s why everyone hates the former King. The brother King now he knew the truth that sided incorrectly and it’s too late as he is too afraid to even accept the suggestion to send Bailiff JJY to Sejong Village as new Magistrate and that is his biggest mistake because the good always wins at the end without trying to be scheming. Life is like a circle

I have one question though — how is it that Step Father is so devoted to Hong Shim as daughter and Mr Assasin cannot recognized him.  I want to know that story. Because he took care and stood as father to HS by all means. He also knows where the father is buried and the family.

By the way the step father’s work is the maintain that fire will keep burning to signal something uphill. I saw it done with passion in Shadowless Sword movie where young NJH was the child actress that’s why Royal inspector visit and stays with HS father. Signal fire is for signaling something.

@pad-hari yes 26 and 28. He was 10 and She was 12. The story currently if I understood correctly is 16 years after. Real Won Deuk is similar age as her orabeoni MY middle 30s already as he was already a trainee in swordsmanship.

I assumed HS confined with him after the Stepfather took care of her for sometime?

Spoiler

I believe Stepfather projects his love for his dead daughter towards HS, that's why he is so caring by all means.

It feels nice to be back on this forum.. haha.. this show pulled me back in. I am completely hooked and little too late to join I suppose! I am hoping for a miracle to catch up with all the discussion here as I can see some wonderful insights already.. I wouldn't expect anything less!!

@stroppyse I think we can all agree that it's a romance. :sweatingbullets:

My interest is really picking up to the point I actually watch the palace scenes now. I get as frustrated like the powerless king. And a good point made by many in this forum is that who can be the ones to help put evil minister out of power? Short of an assassination...

OMO.... :anguished:

now that I have watched it with english.... I am again wavered by the fact that orabeoni is indeed Crown Princess baby daddy... and she is actually just a pawn for her ambitious father.. poor kids.. they are all  have to experience such a terrible life because of all the greed and power struggles...  that vice PM is the most scariest character ever...

Welcome back to the forum @valleryrose! There is no such thing as too late. We're only about halfway through the drama anyway, and this thread is rife with all sorts of speculations, pretty much about all of the characters. Plus, you're coming onboard just when the OTP are finally falling for each other.  So, what do you think so far?

I'm actually kind of happy that this is a completely fictional work, so that I can cheer on the OTP without worrying about actual history, and hope that all of the characters are able to resolve things so that they can get happy endings. Well, aside from the Queen and Kim Cha Eon, for whom, unhappy endings would be fine by me. :)

Now, if only the drama could decide whether it's a comedy, a melodrama, or what...

Thank you @stroppyse!!

Yeah the OTP is finally falling for each other but I'm also a bit skeptical because happy endings and historical drama don't go hand in hand.  I am generally wary of sageuks and stay away from them.. but this drama had an upbeat feel about it. So I decided to go with it.. that and of course the leads!! Given it's set in a fictional universe is also reassuring..

But the opening sequence, a possible death of Hong shim's brother and the impending separation of the couple leave me wondering if this show is really just a rom com. And don't forget the crown princess's pregnancy.

Going by the previews won deuk is going to be captured soon and I am sure Hong shim is going to follow him to the palace.. the show is only getting started. I can't wait for Hong shim and Won Deuk to kick some butt specially the Vice Premier's!

(I only pity the Crown Princess.. having to realise what she means to her father at such a young age and how politics  and power trump everything. And then ending up with a loveless marriage. Not that it excuses any of her deeds.)

I have not dwelled too deep into the story line and I'm just enjoying the OTP and the beautiful cinematography of the show. All actors are really good so no complaints there.

This show is not supposed to be a melodrama and I hope it stays that way! Or did I miss anything the showmakers had previously communicated? I need a happy ending for my OTP!! :tears:

The queen who has been famous for not doing what she has been told to do will definitely not leave the pregnancy alone. I'm hopeful that she'll discover the secret.

At this point the vice premier is untouchable and he has managed to send JJY away too..

Makes me wonder if it'll take LY himself to bring him down and why not? Isn't that how it's meant to be?

And he real Won Deuk part is really confusing.. and the family register thing also. Was it entered when their marriage was registered. Or there is actually someone named Na Won Deuk and he passed away.

Won Deuk must have been a name Hong Shim knew from before.. or did she just make it up? How did she know that old lady? Hopefully we'll get some answers in the next episode..

I think there was really someone named Na Won Deuk and he was 35 (born in the year of the monkey).  All these are just little facts that don't add up which is why LY (and everyone else) starts to suspect he isn't Won Deuk.

Then there's that book that Won Deuk bought with the money he earnt?  He hid the book amongst the firewood (which HS finds and starts to read it and wonders why he would spend the money on it) but after the house was trashed it disappears?  It's not the family ledger.  Words on it read "Night Open Door" (literal translation - I think ?? because the words are a bit blurred out and they only showed the title of the book for a second or two at most)...I am not sure if it's some traditional Chinese learning manual or something else...I cannot find an equivalent on Google.  Maybe it's another memory trigger for him?  Why would someone take that book though?  Neither HS nor WD took it from amongst the firewood pile so who did?

But he bought the book with money though? That's kinda strange to have that sort of book for sale?  That's the impression I got anyway.  Don't know for sure. It's just odd that he couldn't find it after the house was trashed?  HS hid the book back where she found it and was then taken by thugs?  I am getting a bit muddled up coz I am watching too many dramas at once

To be fair, I'm feeling muddled as well because I'm also watching far too many dramas at the same time!    I'm actually thinking of dropping one or two but not, of course, 100 Days Prince.

A book like that might be sold if the person who was keeping the records wanted money but didn't want to get caught with the book and was willing for someone else to take a risk with it.

“Night Open Door” (Edit: The book cover reads more like "Close關" more than "Open 開" to me?!) is actually a parody of a R-rated korean film,  Door to the Night, where the Korean movie tiltle can literally be translated as "Night Close Door: the Flower of Desire".  I reckon it is only to 1) show WD hid the ledger in a soft porn novel to avoid suspicion in case anyone saw the book; 2) serve as a joke, like the 50 Shades of Grey one.

The title of the book "Night Open Door" is the chinese words representing a medicine which gives men more energy for the night......(from Google)

Or just like @000231846597 said, it is related to that korean movie.

Anyway, i guess the writer may try to use this title to mislead us that the book is something similar to "the fifty shades of grey".

Yes, the content of book is actually the ledger that detailed the wrongdoings of the local magistrate.

I guess the story is like this:

The book was somehow accidentally brought to the bookstore. But the owner doesn't understand the content of the book so he just sells the book just like other normal novels. WD bought that and then hided it under the firewood.

HS found it and she could read it and knew that it is a ledger. (<- this becomes a clue of her noble identity for WD)

After the house was trashed, HS got up early that morning to find her father, and she noticed that the man in the room was holding a metal bar. The metal bar should be something that reveals the identity of the man. Then HS guessed that he comes to investigate the misbehavior of the magistrate. Then, she went back home and took the book from the firewood, and gave the book to the man. (Later he told WD that HS gave the book to him early that morning)

After that, WD woke up and went back home to get the book but he couldn't find it. It's because HS has taken away already.

Yes I can confirm the theory about "Night Open Door" is correct (thanks to all who contributed above)- I just went and rewatched that scene where the Royal Inspector comes to save HS/WD and exposes the local magistrate's deeds and the book he was holding was indeed that one (same title)...  love the parody though...

As an aside...my Google search of that book in Chinese tossed this one up instead...PG13 or G rating...potentially because there's a browser filter on mine to screen out unsavouries from curious children

If we look at the initial trailers released for the show there is a scene where HS is sitting in front of LY in the palace.. so it is for sure she will enter the palace (or that could be a dream sequence..? LY missing HS!! )

I can't wait to watch how the story unfolds!

Honestly, I thought that scene will be LY dream sequence because he missed HS so much. I want to put my expectation low in the ground so I won't hurt too much :sweatingbullets:
