I didn’t think eps 33-34 were worth recapping but here’s a recap of ep 35

Yuan Jie and Mo Qing have a one on one battle with each other but Mo Qing only defends and doesn’t directly attack Yuan Ye. Yuan Ye accuses him of not respecting him and Mo Qing replies that Yuan Jie was Zhao Yao’s old subordinate so he understands his loyalty so he won’t kill him. Yuan Jie mocks him by saying the previous Sect Leader was decisive in killing and punishing unlike him who deals with matters with a woman’s heart. A person like him does not deserve the position of Wan Lu Men Sect Leader.

 

Mo Qing gets injured because he didn’t have enough strength to defend himself. Yuan Jie says that because Mo Qing is the son of the Demon King, he thought that they could have a great fight with each other but with his cowardly demeanour, Mo Qing does not deserve that title. Yuan Jie is stoppped from killing Mo Qing by Lin Zi Yu and he accuses her of being disloyal to Li Chen Lan, then being dishonable towards himself so she is a woman who deserves to die.

 

Lin Zi Yu takes this opportunity to touch Mo Qing’s arm and says, “I’ve come to save you”. She asks if him if he can see her now and is she now the only person in his eyes now?

 

After being able to leave Qi Zi Di ( the ghost market), Zhao Yao arrives near her grave and says “Little Hideous I’ve returned”. Lin Zi Yu, injured her own co conspirator when he tries to help Yuan Jie and says that after this incident does she think Li Chen Lan will spare her now?

 

Zhao Yao walks into the midst of a civil war between the members of Wan Lu Men. She arrives on time to witness Lin Zhi Yu tell Mo Qing that did he see? At this moment,she is the only one in the world who can save him. Mo Qing pulls his arm away and Zhao Yao says that her attitude sure is big (she’s talking nonsense). Mo Qing looks so relieved Zhao Yao came back to him and walks over to her. Zhao Yao tells him “Little Hideous, I’ve returned.” They kiss despite all the witnesses in the room. In the background, Lin Zi Yu sheds a tear for her hopeless love and appears to want to use her whip on Zhao Yao.

 

This next part was inserted awkwardly here, but shows Shi Qi escorting Qin Qianxian and his disciples to Wan Lu Men. On the way she is hungry so Qin Qianxian treats her to some buns. While she is eating, someone shouts that Li Chen Lan has been replaced and that Lu Zhao Yao is back.Shi Qi forgets all about her buns and Qin Qianxian to run off to see “her” Sect Leader.

 

Zhao Yao and Mo Qing walk towards the Sect Leaders throne together, but she allows him to sit on it (giving her position to him). Yuan Jie asks Zhao Yao,how could she willingly give up her postion as Sect Leader to someone else? This person (Mo Qing) is weak and is unable to build anything,has caused Chen Ze mountain to become a tangled mess and does not respect the rules of Wan Lu Men. If we continue this way, we will loose our way and create a disaster. Zhao Yao replies that she only knows that Mo Qing was able to destroy Nan Yue Jiao on his own, retrieve the heavenly sword,destroyed the Anti Demon battle array (the thing with the flying swords) and gravely injured the immortal sects,no one else can do these actions but him. Yuan Jie asks if she has forgotten that it was Mo Qing who stole her Wan Jun sword and stole her position as Sect Leader of Wan Lu Men? Zhao Yao replies that for the person she loves,she is willing to share everything she has. Mo Ching looks so touched at her declaration of love/ ownership that he wants to cry.

 

Yuan Jie says it’s wrong, everything is wrong, Lu Zhao Yao was always ruthless and hated being plotted against and someone stealing her title, so how can she be like this? Yuan Jie accuses Zhao Yao of being an imposter and is not the Lu Zhao Yao he used to follow. He yells at her for impersonating his previous Sect Leader and was about to attack her but is stopped by Mo Qing.Mo Qing tells Yuan Jie that he can treat him cruelly but he cannot treat Zhao Yao with disloyalty. Yuan Jie says that he only followed Lu Zhao Yao, but that person is an imposter so there is no need to discuss  gratitude and honour. He tries to attack Mo Qing but this time, he does not spare Yuan Jie due to his association with Zhao Yao and flings him outside. Mo Qing has visions of being chained up again  and was about to turn demonic but Zhao Yao was able to bring him back by calling him Mo Qing.

 

Yuan Jie tells Mo Qing that he (Mo Qing) has great power but is willing to sit in a corner?

He tells Zhao Yao that she once told him she wanted to kill all good people in the world but now her mission is still unaccomplished but her motivational drive has died first and all  because of a man she should have imprisoned. He says he is unwilling to accept it with his dying breath.

 

 Zhao Yao tells Yuan Jie’s body that when he his family was killed by his enemies,he lost his home. When he joined Wan Lu Men he swore his absolute loyalty and would never betray her but today he killed his fellow sect members. She tells the other An Luo Guards that they too swore never to betray the Sect Leader. She supports Li Chen Lan’s position as Sect Leader and asks who doesn’t concede?

 

Lin Zi Yu says she doesn’t concede and Zhao says she knew it already, when Lin Zi Yu put lots of effort into trying to find  Zhao Yao and Qin Zhi Yan’s weak point and banish them from Wan Lu Men. It was a pity that even when Lin Zi Yu  put lots of efforts to bring Zhao Yao in front of Mo Qing, he did nothing to her. Lin Zi Yu says there were two Qin Zhi Yan’s with big  personality differences,so one of them was you? So you were still alive and  was always with him? Lin Zi Yu was about to attack Zhao Yao but Shi Qi runs in and attacks her.

 

Shi Qi happily hugs Zhao Yao and says “Sect Leader, you’ve returned, what took you so long to return, do you know how much I’ve missed you,I’ve been looking for you for a long time.”

 

Zhao Yao asks Lin Zi Yu when she destroyed Xie Sha Men and saved Shi Qi, and brought a group of pill testers back to Wan Lu Men, was she one of them? She replies that she has been in the An Luo Guards for years and whatever she owed she has already repaid. Shi Qi yells at Lin Zi Yu for being disrespectful to her Sect Leader and threatened to hit her but is stopped by Zhao Yao. Zhao Yao asks her if her betrayal and murder of her fellow Sect members was just to satisfy her selfishness. Shi Qi tells Zhao Yao to kill her already, but Lin Zi Yu says she will be back before glancing at the other female guard and running off ( probably a power given to her as a result of the experimental pills, she took as a pill tester).

 

The other female guard makes up an excuse about why she helped Lin Xi Yu, but Mo Qing doesn’t question it and sends her off to get rid of Yuan Jie’s fellow conspirators. Si Ma Rong comes it and asks if the rebellion is over yet? He says she is back, and she remarks that he seems calm when seeing her.Si Ma Rong says that he already knew, it’s good that she has returned, it’s a pity that (Yuan Jie betrayed them). Shi Qi brings Gu Han Guang In to treat Mo Qing and he is surprised Zhao Yao is still alive. He remarks that evil people sure live a thousand years and it’s not a compliment.Zhao Yao asks him to treat Mo Qing first because his breath is abnormal , but Gu Han Guang says it’s strange if he isn’t abnormal. Gu Han Guang complains that they all know how to bother him every couple of days and should all go drink some poison.

 

Qin Qianxian arrives and Shi Qi says she almost forgot about him so its lucky he was smart enough to come here on his own. She pulls him over to Zhao Yao and says “Look,I brought him back.” Zhao Yao says “ Long time no see, Sect Leader Qin.” He says there is something he needs to tell her and Mo Qing doesn’t look too happy but he nods for her to go. Zhao Yao says good because she still has questions to ask him.

 

In a different location, Zhao Yao asks if that day in the Sword Grave, it was him who took her body? He asks how she knew this? She replies that he doesn’t need to know how she knew, he just needs to tell her the reason why he did it. Qin Qianxian replies that it was because one of his stubborn thoughts had become a Xinmo (thought demon). He asks if she remembers their first meeting? She replies that year, she took Wan Lu Men towards the south but did not want to waste resources on the Ten Thousand Swords Battle Formation In Jin Zhu so she went back the way she came and on the way she met Tian Chen Ge ( his Sect). She had heard he was the most beautiful man in the world and was curious so she wanted to take him back to see (how beautiful he was). He tells her that she stared at him all night! Zhao Yao says replies that was young and reckless. Qin Qianxian says that now he remembers that his Shifu  was wise and insightful and had already predicted that in his destiny there was a trial he had to overcome and tried to make him avoid meeting her. However, whatever was to come could not be avoided. Then there’s a flashback of the events of that apple eating staring all night event.

 

Qin Qianxian says that after that night, his heart/mind was in chaos and gradually a Xinmo was born. He could not let the Xinmo take away his powers so he saved her in the Sword Grave and froze her in a cave in Su Mountain. Used  some kind of spell to extend her life just o help him escape from his Xinmo. She asks if he has removed his Xinmo, and he reveals that his Xinmo was taken out but it has created an even bigger bad karma for the world, and that Xinmo became Jiang Wu. Zhao Yao asks him,wait,what did he say? Let’s say it again, she just stared at him all night and out came Jiang Wu?

 

Meanwhile, Jiang Wu meets with Jin Xiu Gong Zi to form an alliance. Jiang Wu asks him to spread the rumour about Qin Qianxian admiring Lu Zhao Yao and used what ever methods he could to save her life.

 

Qin Qianxian says it’s his fault that he has caused her and everyone else more trouble and asks for her forgiveness.Zhao Yao says that she does not blame him, so they do not need to talk of forgiveness. He helped preserve her body so whatever grudge they had is now even.Everything is now in the past,but he should not have inappropriate thoughts towards her anymore, he’s so beautiful that she is afraid the Little Hideous will feel bad in his heart.

 

In a tea shop in town, a story teller is telling the customers the story of how Qin Qianxian developed feelings for  Zhao Yao and kept her hidden many years so that he could use forbidden Tian Chen Ge spells to revive her. (a rumor spread by Jin Xiu Gong Zi on Jiang Wu’s request)

 

 Mo Qing recalls a memory of his father chaining him up and telling him to wait until he returned.Gu Han Guang tells him off for aggravating his old wound and making it worse. Does he think because he is the Demon Kings son, that he can’t die? Gu Han Guang tells Zhao Yao that if she cared for him then she should tell Mo Qing look after himself better,he had never seen anyone use the Nine Heavens spell that long and survive.

 

Mo Qing asks Zhao Yao what she discussed with Qin Qianxian and she replies that it was only old matters not worth mentioning (she didn’t want to tell him about her body being kept by Qin Qianxian). But there was something worth mentioning, Jiang Wu’s background is not ordinary, he is Qin Qianxian’s Xinmo. She’s amazed that a Xinmo could take human form but Gu Han Guang tells her she is disturbing his patients rest. Zhao Yao asks him to check on her because she is unable to use her martial arts due to the pills she took,then there was the washing off of the effects of the pills too.

Last night episodes are worth of me staying late watching. What I really enjoy from the formalization of our OTP relationship (excluded the open lovey dovey moments), is that Zhao Yao now has to deal with the full burnt of Li Chen Lan jealousy. Before, she always hid behind the master-disciple facade or the fact that she was "invisible" during morning/afternoon; thus having easier time when dealing with angry Li Chen Lan. 

 

Zhao Yao expression and reaction in the scene in episode 36 when Li Chen Lan destroyed the story-teller table and how Zhao Yao tried hard to placate Li Chen Lan after he found out the husband fiasco told us everything . It is very entertaining that we now can see a different side from the ever confident and arrogant Lu Zhao Yao.

 

@frostflower14 Thank you for the recap for episode 35!! Agreed that 33-34 didn't deserve the effort. Are you doing the recap for episode 36, too?

The scene where MQ gets mad and crushes the table with his powers...I like to think that was uncontrollable jealousy, but it seemed like it was also foreshadowing of his demonic side coming out? 

 

Riding out that horrible last week's batch of episodes was (almost) worth it with episodes 35+, so much MC screen time! 

 

I actually like the turnaround with ZY and MQ's relationship dynamics...he was the lovestruck puppy for a good 30 episodes, but now that they're together and are in a much more balanced relationship, the jealousy scenes as a couple are so good! (Well, killing the crow was pretty good as well, but he couldn't really do much beyond...killing the crow and scaring ZY a bit). I'm digging the new "demon" hair and kind of bossy attitude he has now. He still loves ZY to pieces, but she actually has to placate him a lot, and it's cute, especially in contrast with how their relationship was before (he did everything for her without her even knowing the reasons why).

Zhao Yao asks Gu Han Guang to give her a checkup since she can’t seem to use her martial arts abilities. He replies that it’s not only her martial arts that been affected, she now can’t even gather her breath (needed for martial arts, I think). Mo Qing asks how did this happen and if her body is okay. Zhao Yao assures him that she is fine and says isn’t it just that she can’t use her martial arts? What is he worried for? She now has him, he has martial arts so it’s the same as her having martial arts, so who would dare to attack her?

 

Mo Qing asks Zhao Yao what happened on the day she killed Luo Mingxuan,turned into a firework and disappeared . She tells him it’s a long story and asks him if he knows of Qi Zhi Di. Mo Qing replies that Qin Zhi Yan mentioned it. Zhao Yao tells him it is a location that can only be accessed by people who have experienced life and death. There’s an entrance to it in the forest of red rocks in the forbidden area, in the tree near her grave. There are many stores there that sell pills that have miraculous results. There’s a store called Kong Kong that sells Kong Kong pills that cause people to regain their original strength. Gu Han Guang remarks that he did not know such a miraculous pill existed in this world.

 

Zhao Yao tells them that, when she took the Kong Kong Pill,she recovered some of her martial arts but that pill had a side effect of making her invisible during the day. This time she had taken their ultimate pill and was able to instantly recover the strength she had during the time when she was the most powerful. So, being unable to use her martial arts must be the price paid for that Ultimate pill.Mo Qing asks if there is a way to resolve this issue and Zhao Yao replies that she does not know, but will ask when she gets time. Zhao Yao tells him not to worry, he can now see her and she has recovered her original appearance so everything seems to be fine. However, from now on,it seems she must rely on him to protect her, he has a great responsibility so he better make sure his wound heals. Zhao Yao assures him that’s it’s alright and that she won’t leave anymore. Zhu Han Guang asks Si Ma Rong how he can stand their lovey dovey talk?

 

Si Ma Rong says that he had heard that Luo Mingxuan had reawakened. He thought that someone would be restless so he came here to see, but it’s hard for him to move in his current condition so he could not come on time. Si Ma Rong says that now that he sees everything is fine,  he must go to not keep the person at home waiting.

 

Qin Qianxian tells Shi Qi he needs to leave because there are questions on his mind and she suggests using their library. 

 

Zhi Yan goes to see Zhao Yao and witnesses her failing to summon her power. Zhao Yao says that her martial arts skills are truely gone. Zhi Yan hesitates outside the door because she is feeling guilty over the whole Luo Mingxuan blood giving affair. Cangling drags her inside with him and tells Zhao Yao that he needs to apologise. She asks what he needs to apologise for? Cangling said he wants to apologise on behalf of his father and the whole of Jian Xin Men ( for his crazy aunt reviving Luo Mingxuan). Zhi Yan says she also needs to apologise but Zhao Yao says sarcastically that she doesn’t need to apologise and that she doesn’t dare blame Zhi Yan. Zhi Yan tells Zhao Yao to blame her because it was her fault for causing this disaster.ZhaoYao asks if she knows she is wrong and Zhi Yan replies that she does but Zhao Yao says she doesn’t want to forgive her.  Zhi Yan says that if Zhao Yao doesn’t want to forgive them today she will come back another day.

 

Shi Qi comes to see Zhao Yao just as Zhi Yan and Cangling are leaving. She asks Zhao Yao who that pretty girl was, and there was also someone of the Immortal Sects but they didn’t look very happy. Zhao Yao replies that they had wronged her so she wants to punish them a little. Shi Qi says that she can bash them to death, but Zhao Yao stops her and tells her not to get any kinky ideas either. Zhao Yao asks why Shi Qi had come to see her and she replies that she wanted to ask permission to access their library on the Great Beauty’s behalf. Zhao Yao thinks that their library is vast as the ocean so Qin Qianxian must want to look for a way to defeat Jiang Wu. She tells Shi Qi that she gives her permission and she is ecstatic since she now has someone to play with.

 

Mo Qing gets his wound treated by Gu Han Guang and asks him about all the decorations being put up outside. Gu Han Guang replies that it’s Chinese Valentines Day so everyone in Wan Lu Men is celebrating. He invites Mo Qing  and everyone over for a hot pot and Mo Qing says that there hasn’t been a celebration in a long time.

 

Mo Qing walks into Zhao Yao’s room to see her feeding Shi Qi and invited her to come with him to the night market in the village. He had heard it was very amusing and she replies she wants to go because she is has nothing to do. Shi Qi says she wants to come too, but Zhao Yao says she’s going on a date, why does she want to come for?  Shi Qi says she wants to talk lovey dovey stuff to Zhao Yao too but Mo Qing tells her that she’s all grown up now and should find someone else to love. She tells him isn’t she allowed to love Sect Leader? Its all his fault for taking her Sect Leader away. Mo Qing tells Zhao Yao that she should hurry up and marry Shi Qi off and Shi Qi replies that Zhao Yao needs to hurry up and marry him off. Zhao Yao tells Shi Qi not to come with them, but she can go find Gu Han Guang for some food. After she leaves, Zhao Yao asks Mo Qing if he is even jealous of Shi Qi. He replies that he just wants to hide her away.

 

 

In the night market, Zhi Yan tells Cangling that she wants to buy a gift for Zhao Yao. She tells him that Zhao Yao does not like ornaments because they are bothersome and does not like silky clothing because it is hard to fight wearing them, she does like food but that gift wouldn’t be special enough. Cangling has flashbacks of when Zhi Yan said she wanted no further association with him and  pulls out the jade hairpin he wants to give her but is afraid of getting rejected again.

 

Meanwhile, Zhao Yao and Mo Qing are standing near a lake. She asks him when he was able to tell the difference between herself and Zhi Yan. He replies that it was when she wanted to save Liu  Cangling and took a blow from Yuan Jie that he knew because only she had that look and aura. Zhao Yao asks him if he only gave her the necklace after he was certain? He says yes and she asks what is the necklace? He gave her the necklace long ago, now he gave it to her again so is it something important? He asks if she already knew  (about that incident) and she awkwardly replies that she remembered a few memories in Qi Zhi Di. She asks him to tell her about the necklace and why he gave it to her. Mo Qing replies that it’s The Spying Heart Mirror and he had it since he was young. Even he did not know what properties it had, but after going with her to the mountain, he wanted to give her something but other than the mirror he had nothing so he gave it to her. It was then that he knew why it was called the Spying Heart Mirror because it had the ability to spy on the hearts of humans. He clarifies that, it can allow him to spy on her any time and any place. Zhao Yao tells him, “Little Hideous, I didn’t know you were that kind of person (a pervert). He replies awkwardly that after he gave it to her and found out about its ability, he regretted it in his heart and felt really embarrassed. Zhao Yao asks if he was embarrassed then why didn’t he take it back?He said he did want to take it back but what was he supposed to say to her?How was he going to explain, how the Spying Heart Mirror appeared on her neck. She replies that he could have told her the truth, then awkwardly stops when she remembers that night. Zhao Yao admits that it would have been difficult to say but no matter since she has worn the necklace for so many years she’ll continue to wear it and they don’t need to mention past events.

 

Zhi Yan tries to give Zhao Yao her gift and she was about to accept it when someone interrupted them saying something about a story teller in a tea shop. Zhao Yao suggests to Mo Qing that they go to hear the story teller and Zhi Yan asks if she can come with them. Zhao Yao replies that the legs belong to Zhi Yan so she can’t stop her. 

 

In the tea shop the story teller was reciting the conclusion to the story of Qin Qianxian and Lu Zhao Yao. According to legend, Qin Qianxian kept Lu Zhao Yao imprisoned in a crack in the ice and kept her for five years. Someone asks if it’s true then Lu Zhao Yao is indeed pitiful. The story teller replies it true and in those five years, everyday,Lu Zhao Yao had to endure Qin Qianxian’s scrutiny. So in the extreme cold, her body was unable to move so she had to endure this scrutiny everyday. Someone says that they would never have thought that Qin Qianxian was even worse than an animal, on the surface not caring for anything but having lowly thoughts in his heart, doing this things to Lu Zhao Yao.Another customers asks so in the end did Qin Qianxian do anything to Lu Zhao Yao? Zhi Yan protests how these people could accuse her uncle of doing these things and Mo Qing looks increasingly angry as he hears the story.  

 

Mo Qing asks Zhao Yao if it was Qin Qianxian who took her from the Sword Grave and kept her hidden? Zhao Yao looks nervous in the face of his jealousy and protests that they keep telling her story like this not giving her any glory. Mo Qing finally snaps and breaks the story tellers table with his powers. He declares that within a 100 mile radius of Chen Ze Mountain, don’t let him hear of anymore made up stories. Zhao Yao tells him it’s not early, so they should go to attend Shen Qianjins hot pot party.

 

At the hot pot party, Shen Qianjin suggests a poetry reciting game where the loser has a take a drink. Zhao Yao is really bad at poetry and constantly has to drink so Zi Yan offers to drink for her. Mo Qing just smiles at her level of “literacy”. After getting drunk Zhi Yan gets the courage to confront Zhao Yao regarding her anger over the Luo Mingxuan incident and asks why she is so hard to placate

The blood is there because he exhausted himself searching for ZY and the north section leader attacked him.

This!! It is very rare for us having this kind of female lead character. Drama land seemed to be unable to have a balanced female lead.  There are two polar oppposites of female lead types. First type, she is too weak, and we would have a damsel in distress. This type of character is always acted spoiled and when she does any wrong she will act like a saint who has been wronged. I think the female lead character in Xin Xiao Shi Yi Lang can be put into this group (I could not stand her at all).

The second type is a strong female lead. However, this type of character usually will come at the expense of weaker male character (lead and others) either in personality or power. It seems that to create a strong female lead, the drama need to showcase that she is better than any male. She will also usually seem to be devoid of feeling, letting the male lead chasing and pleasing her all the way while she keeps aloof (sorry for all Yanxi fans, but I think Wu Ying Luo can be said falls to this group even though I admit I haven't watched all the episodes).

 

Lots of drama/novel female lead will fall to either category, sometimes they will be in rather middle but will have preference to one side.

 

Therefore, Lu Zhao Yao is such a refreshing character. In her we get a strong female lead. She can beat everyone, male or female alike. However, she still retains her womanly side. Right now she is enjoying her life under Li Chen Lan protection and authority; acting like a woman in love, caring and very mindful of her man thought. She is very nervous when her man is angry at her. However, the current situation does not make her a damsel in distress or can no longer function independently. As we can see in the preview in the ending song, she will take matter into her own hand when the immortal sects targets her man again. It is as if she is a dangerous beast, even though she will let herself to look tame now, does not mean it will change the fact that she is a dangerous beast. Provoke her and she will give you pain.

 

I really like our OTP relationship dynamic right now. Before, Li Chen Lan always seemed to be unsure of his position Zhao Yao life. He basically just gives in to Zhao Yao every time. Even when he was jealous, there was nothing he could do because he thought he didn't deserve her. Not to mention that Zhao Yao hated him at that time and wanted to kill him. But now he can freely shows his displeasure and Zhao Yao will immediately tries to placate him (instead of waiting like she had been done before). Of course Li Chen Lan can never get angry to Zhao Yao for long anyway, but the change in how Zhao Yao react to his anger shows how important his happiness for her now.

My goodness this is such a feel good drama 95% of the time...too bad I don't understand a word.  Very thankful we have so many fans of drama to help with translations and recaps!  Yet still I ogle the screen as I watch!  Definitely watch again when eng subs are fully subbed.

 

In regards to the leads, very rare that they have actually in 2 other dramas together...no wonder they are so comfortable and compatible with each other on screen and off screen!!  I am also anticipating the military drama.  I like gender bender role but sure there may be less focus on romance...but hopefully they have a HE.  any sniff of BE I will have to drop it....lol
