[Drama 2018] Misty 미스티

I gave in and watched episode 1. as i watched it I felt drawn into the story and character, witch show a good written story.  Liked Hye Ran being good at her job, Tae wook enjoying his work as a public defender. show he has a good heart and make me root for him and him finding his happiness. Hye ran seems like a very complicated person being married to her job and very much disliked that she run to the airport then going to her mom, I think that is a moment she gonna regret for the rest of her life. based on how conflicted she was on the way to the airport. No wonder husband seems cold to her. I guess he have seen many time how she only live for her job. maybe the lost baby is one of the big moment that also pushed their relationship into ice...  wonder how they got married, their marriage picture seems so warm and having them smiling big.

still don´t like how she daydreaming about Kevin Lee and him saying I love you. (at least sexy scene is short and not so explicit) feel like she never got over him, and it is dangerous that he enter her life again...

Got the feeling that the story gonna be about Hye Ran redemption, to me she do not seem happy in her life and need an awakening that life is more then being anchor.  so i think the plot is correct  and that the married couple gonna reconnect and fall in love again. what gonna be interesting is how. seems like her being suspect and him defending her gonna be a tool for that.

Hello, I am on board for this ride. Thoroughly enjoyed the first two episodes.  The time edits are done really well, and not confusing somehow.   Present - past  - past past.

I suppose I am uncomfortable with Hye Ran's flash backs to her sensual love making with the man she threw out because of his low status and what she thought was a dead end future, that would drag her down.  But that is true to her character who is living with her husband but they are estranged and no longer lovers, so she is longing for the physical passion she threw away.

Kevin Lee - he is an enigma.  He is being shown as a handsome athletic stud - all body no mind.  He is a sex magnet - Han Ji Won goes after him, and he is I think too easy to take her up on it.   Yet he is always playing with his wife.  I think he is committed to her because she married him on the rebound and then worked to support him so he could develop as a pro golfer.   The meeting with Hye Ran is not something he planned.  I imagine he thought he would meet her in Korea because she is a famous news reporter.

But what is his deal?   Does he just want to seduce her again - and make her feel bad she tossed him away?  At this point in hi life that would be very petty and vindictive.  Maybe he just loves her?

Its interesting that we don't know yet who was killed in the car?  When the detective holds the pictures up of Kevin and Eun Joo he says "Do you know this person?"   He doesn't use the past tense, "Did you know"  - so we can't tell if either or both of them were killed.

I'm only looking at your gifs and blushing. Appreciative but blushing. :)

I'm tempted to start it, but then, not sure if I want to watch the subject matter. Then again, you and @triplem sold me on Prison Playback for which I'm very grateful. So, you tell me, should I watch this drama? Or does it have tragedy written all over it? For instance, the ending to Cruel City just killed me.

I don't think this is going to have a tragic ending. No way of really knowing but that is my gut feeling. This is a mystery and a melodrama. Kim Nam Joo is killing it. Her performance is really something to see. Recommend.

It's like he feels satisfaction by showing off. I also think he aims to claim her again - despite her being married - and then he wants to dump her for real like she did back then.

I also think that he wants the satisfaction to possess and then dump her but I feel it is more than that. He has a big ego. Like you said he is self- centered. If he did not get over the rejection after so many years, this resentful guy could give her a hard time. He has power over her because she wants to hide their story, her past. I think he still

I don't think he loves is wife the way she loves him. But I think he is genuine when he says he is thankful that she gave up everything so he could achieve his goals. But he isn't genuine about wanting her to be happy. If he wanted that he would've stopped Ji Won's approaches in the car. He comes across as slightly (completely?) self-centered. He couldn't get Hye Ran back then, so he is proving he can get everything now. But what person does it make out of him? Is he actually happy?

I am not convinced that he loves his wife but I hope he cares about her and he is grateful to her that she stood behind him all these years. I am not surprised that he accepted Ji Won`s advances. He wants to prove that he can get everything he wants now. Kevin Lee was bold enough to claim that he wants Hye Ran on national televisioin (of course, only Hye Ran knew what he wanted to say). He never got over this first love. It was an intense love story, he experienced love and then pain. I don`t think he is happy at the moment. From the outside, he has everything: fame, money a lovely wife, just like Hye Ran. I don`t think Kevin Lee is happy, Hye Ran is not happy either. What they are looking for? They are boken people.

I said it before that I don`t hate Hye Ran. I pity her that she is self- destructive way. Just like Tae-Wook, I care about her but not agree with her action. I want her to be happy but she can`t be. Why she is so greedy about social recognition? She was was made like this. Plus, her mind is giving her false hopes that the succes, the richness  is going to fulfill her life. People like Hye Ran and Kevin Lee are trying to change things on the outside but as long as they do not resolve their inner problems they will continue to be bitter and miserable. They will never be happy.

Tae Wook will be there for her when she be at her lowest point in her life. She doesn`t have anyone on her side except Tae wook. She will be cornered with lots of problem but she doesn`t ask for help. I think this murder case will be a blessing in disguise for her. She is innocent and she has to dicover all her hidden secrets to "reborn" again. I just hope this drama will go this path. I have these lyrics in my mind for Hye Ran:  "Behind the bright easy laughter. Rivers of tears have been cried. So remember the rain. When you think of the sunshine."

Because in the beginning they said they're still investigating the identity of the victim and Kang Ki Joon doesn't explicitely say that Jae Young or Eun Joo are the victims, right?

Could it be Eun Joo? Because Hye Ran with a lot of confidence says she and Eun Joo barely knew eachother and if Eun Joo was alive she could say otherwise, right? Sorry, I'm overthinking... it's only two episodes in.

Yeah, they did not give us a name. We assume it is Lee Jae Young/ Kevin Lee but it is possible to be both Jae Young and Eun Joo?  I was wondering why the police officer put Hye Ran in the suspect list. Because of that brooch? He  suspects that she had a relationship with him?

I could see how Hye Ran will be the prime suspect. She keeps the secrets hidden but those secrets will be discovered. She will have motive, means and oportunity? Is someone framing her?

@sal2yyaaayyy ! Let's watch this drama !! For a 19+ rated drama, the scene are okay !! It's just the camera is focusing mostly on their touch, like sometime they're zooming like crazy but it's okay and as @Jillia said the scenes are not cheap, so cinematographically anyway I'm so amazed ! I love this drama already, there's a strong plot and I can't wait for more. I also have the same opinion/mindset as you about the story contents but I think we need to wait for the story to unfold and I'm positive ! Now my fridays are exciting yay !! B)B)

I am so happy that so many more people have started to watch and love Misty! I really can't wait until the next episode!

Also, I think only the first 3 episodes are +19 so far. Perhaps that can give us some clues as to what will happen in the next episode. Maybe we will see more flashbacks of love or maybe Hae-ran will sneak out to Thailand and cheat on Tae-wook. Or both?

Wow this drama sure pack a punch in just 2 ep.!

Kim Namjoo in interviews doesn't steer too far away from her character as Hyeran. I love her spunk, she's ambitious & comes across as cold, calculating but she did what was needed for survival. With the added pressure of a backstabbing, younger colleague, along with her MIL & public scrutiny it's not hard to see why Hyeran struggles to keep a facade of a perfect life.

Aish~ that Kevin Lee tsk:tongue: if I didn't know better... He's nothing more than a male escort! His poor wife Eunjoo on the other... I wonder what Kim Namjoo's husband's thoughts are at her intimate scenes LoL!:w00t:

There's something so cool about the way Jinhee is in his roles heh - they always seem so poised & restrained. The interrogation scene with Hyeran at the police station gave off Basic Instinct vibes to me for some reason :phew:

Hi all, been waiting for this moment to share my own two cents about this drama. Unlike some who just jumped without any expectations or given information, I, on the other hand, very much well informed about the existence of this drama. It was Ji Jin Hee, that being the main pull factor yet I couldn't agree more with the selection of Kim Nam Joo as his partner. (He was absolute thrill with women who have certain aura and more settled like his previous drama partners).

Well anyway, this drama, as some other already mentioned, reminds us with The Good Wife (I do agree the content, the execution, the tone, strongly resemble the spectacular drama). I just hope they don't waver till the end and consistently working with the good material they already had. The story eerily similar to Queen of Ambition (bless that drama, begun with great premise, but ended being a trainwreck; and to some degree, to my all time favorite, Gone With The Wind) The female lead was so strongly consumed with greed that blindly crushes everything that got in the way of her so-called 'success', and losing her true love and even innocent child in the process. That drama presented the lead as if she wasn’t capable to feel anything anymore (and felt as one dimensional character to me), but I see the difference in HR, she does feel pang of guilt but she suppresses it and consciously submitted to whole new level of low by using her loss to lure her former best friend in order to securing her position. Her personality attributed to her past and can’t we just ‘appreciate’ her pageant mom? Thank omoni, you successfully created a almost heartless creature. Granted, she also shows that deep down she wants to reconcile and I see that also in TW. He just resigned to the conclusion that there’s no way to have the ‘old’ HR; he has yet to realize that maybe if he puts a little more effort, he will win her heart. Poor TW, I feel strong surge to hug him every time he appeared on screen (and let’s just a minute of silence to appreciate Ji Jin Hee’s beauty). He took my breath away by looking so dapper. (sorry I couldn’t contain my inner fangirling moment, and I just have to question so many times, if you had husband that looking like that, can you even restrain yourself? LOL).

Back to the present, I think it’s too premature to point out the preperator(s). Why do I have this hunch that maybe there’s a grand scheme of Kevin’s demise? Or maybe afterall, he just wanted to end his life by his own wish? (LOL my sis and I had a good laugh when the idea came up to our mind). The man behind the bars also suspicious, here’s something based on my amateurish deduction:

1.      He is another former lover of HR

2.      He is her brother

3.      He was put behind the bar by TW

But I lean toward no. 2 (since the preview show us a glimpse of young younger version of HR and younger version of jailed man) but if he was HR’s lover, girl you gotta bear all the hearts that you wrecked! On another note, please someone knock some sense to MIL, can't you see that your boy and his wife are pushing forty to fifty? Let them be if they don't want to have their own offspring. To give medicine is somewhat tolerable but marking the calendar and keep pressuring them won't contribute to successful result. (I had a good laugh when other member on this thread mentioned it; it's not like they are on their 20s).

It’s not my first time to see people that so complicated and had this tall wall surrounded them to protect their vulnerable side and their childhood mainly cemented their characteristics but boy! It’s so suffocating seeing HR and TW not willing to find their silver lining. The wound is still painful for TW’s side. He longs his ‘old’ side of his wife since now HR has turned into terrifying personality. I do want to see them reunite and live happily ever after without any interference of Kevin, meddlesome MIL (he even still has a father! LOL), poisonous fake friends, but none of that will happen if HR not willing to give up her ambition, and I do worry that everything that HR had done in the past is way beyond redemption. Maybe she still could taste happiness but judging from drama world point of view, what goes around comes around law still apply, and that being said, her happiness won’t last long.

Well folks, I like drama that tought-provoking and I do not regret tuning in to this one.

I totally forgot to mention the Blue House factor, it was such a surprise how the circumstances have spiraled down, and the writers have decided to season everything up by throwing Blue House to the mix. Things usually go awry when those two words are mentioned.

Wow captivating 2 episodes.

I guess when HR and TW get married, she was still just a reporter like HJW based on the newspaper clip kept by that mysterious inmate. She was pregnant when the much soughted anchor job was up for grab. So HR chose the anchor job over her baby. Maybe she thot she could always get pregnant later. In that cut throat media industry,  offer will not come knocking twice. But TW I suppose who still hurt over what she did refuse to coorperate. And most prolly has not forgiven her yet. The scene where she offered him that bowl of tonic saying she has done her part seems to indicate she is willing to try for another baby.

I still not sure why TW has not filed for divorce. Perhaps he did not want to admit his failure to his parents especially mom. I guess since he has no interest now in other woman, he might as well stay married. Divorce can be complicated. There is a certain underlying resentment for HR. He didnt bother to put any efforts to save her face among their so called frens.

It cross my mind that he resigned from prosecutor job as a jab at her. As a reminder that she cant have everything her way. I guess he only  would be willing to give her another chance when she put him first before her ambition.

Kim NamJoo is serious good. When TW grabbed her hand on her way to the airport to meet golfer Kevin Lee, I can see the hopefullness in her eyes that maybe TW has changed his mind only for it to deem when he mentioned her mom.

Her thought process when she has to make a choice. Mom or Kevin. It makes perfect sense to HR.  She has sacrificed her child and marriage  over her ambition so she  would do almost anything not to lose it. Need to follow it all to the finish line. Even if it includes abandoning her dying mother or using her death to keep her job. Or else that sacrifice became worthless. Looking forward to see how it will turn out between these 2.

Finally another mature drama with awesome mature actors, perfect casting indeed! Hurray!!  (Yes..thank goodness no wannabe actors,  idols here, fantasy/ time travelling plots & ROBOTs! )

I started watching MISTY without any expectation and was captivated by the time I'd finished Epi 1.

KNJ, a perfect actress to play this challenging role .

Love seeing JJH again. (@jongski you have time, do watch I have a Lover. It's 100% worth it).

Will not be checking until I've watched the subbed version to avoid spoiler.

Done watching the 1st episode. It was brilliant. But I'm not really sure if Go Hye Ran is really striving because of the pressure she gets that one day, she will be booted from her news program, or is it because of the pressure that she gets from her mom. I also love the scenes between Kim Nam Joo and Ji Jin Hee.

The only cringe-worthy scene in the series is when Jin Hee's character were defending "Bangladeshi" workers who spoke Filipino. But over all, Episode 1 is great. Will be moving forward to Episode 2 today.

Ok, so our heroine Hye Ran is seriously flawed. She wronged both men, be it past or present.

However what I do like about her is she tried to be honest with them. She married Tae Wook to further her ambitions and she let him know that from the get-go. What I found surprising though, was a small part of her will to succeed appears to be a hidden desire to make herself his equal in the marriage. Interesting that she limits and controls herself when it comes to her husband. Or maybe, the wall he built keeps her out. I kept saying 'no Hye Ran' during that kiss scene in her room. Good, it stopped before the phone rang.

Glad to see more of Tae Wook in this episode. The dude clearly loves his wife but he has his limits. Introducing her to that Sunbae though was a subtle but effective statement. I felt it said 'I still love you--flaws and all'.

Kevin, I pitied for like 10 seconds. His obsession with Hye Ran is clearly his downfall.

The instrumental soundtrack is so good. No flossy idol music blaring through the scenes. It's all solid acting.

Thank you @triplem! I forgot to post todays live recap in here. I'll be sure to post tomorrows! Just in case I happen to forget you can always find them at this link:

Y'all, i loved how the episode ended today! It showed that she also liked him from the beginning and felt the pressure from his family. I can't even fathom marrying into a family that ignores you even exist. That is crazy.

This is an A+++ drama. I keep thinking it will let me down, but no, it is seamlessly bringing everything together.  I had a feeling the brooch was a frame up.    She could have lost it anywhere, and there are many reasons for it to be in the car. It was never more than a bit of circumstantial evidence.

Go Hye Ran - we learn more about her. She is an interesting mix.  So tough and focused.  She is not beneath finessing and setting up Han-Ji-won into seducing Kevin and getting the pictures - but at the same time we see that she has a certain amount of integrity.  When she confronts HJw about her passion for her job, and obsession and drive - she declares her shallow and superficial, while she herself is driven by the "realization' of a just society.     When her assistant, Kwak Ki-Seok (who has helped JHw and seems to be spying on Hye Ran)  was asked if Hye Ran made him work overtime or abused him - he immediately defended her and said she was not like that.  So there is dignity about her.   She is driven by her career goals -  she does call Kevin's wife to get the interview, but we see that she struggled with that, and that Kevin thinks it is because she wanted to see him, but that wasn't it at all.   She has been avoiding him, keeping her distance. Yet in the first two episodes we do see her day dreaming about the two of them together in passionate embraces - in the water.  These dreams though come at time she is estranged from her husband.    She antagonizes Kevin by the scandalous photos, and he threatens to let her husband know how involved they were with each other. He sets up an oppty for them to be together on this Thailand trip, yet we see her trying unsuccessfully to get out of it.  Now that she is on the trip - he forces himself into her room and she tries to fend him off.  But he is insistent and despite her pushing him away - he persists.  Again, they are both wet. :)

We don't know what would happen if the telephone didn't ring.  Her husband is there.  He is her protector.  He is there for her.

Of course I loved  the story about them waiting for each other.  And, he is there for her when she begs on her knees before his mother too. He seems to realize now that the abortion was for more than her career drive - it was to be accepted by his father.  But just when he may think that her kneeling before  his mother was to give her a chance to save her marriage because she loves him,   Hye Ran coolly tells Tae Wook, that she is up for the Blue House press secy job, and there can be no problems while she is being investigated.  But Tae- Wook is there for her about that too. He goes to Thailand so she can have the oppty to have dinner with his old friend who works at the Blue House.  So that she can use his family and position to advance herself - as he promised her when they married.  And now he is there for her during the police interrogation.

I agree the prisoner may be her brother = some speculate.  There is a flash back about it.   Another dark secret from her past that would keep her from her prized Blue House job.

Echoing comments already shared…Yay! for a drama about mature, attractive and sexy people!  And with a good script, cast and production values.

Kim Nam Joo is excellent, lucky her for such a good role.  I rejoice. And Ji Jin Hee and Go Joon are great choices -- and sooo very attractive.  Really enjoying supporting cast, too.

Love all the tension but have a couple of nits about the direction: “too long” “too much” here and there.  I loved KNJ’s facial progression in ep 2 while driving after hearing about her Mother/worried for her job before she stopped the car in the exit lane.  But it felt weird to watch her shocked expression go on and on at the airport, so much so I became uncomfortable, lol.  An anchor of her rank would instinctively paste on a small smile, tho’ her mind was exploding.  A couple of other times, it felt like the direction to hold an expression was overly long.  Why would someone like the prosecutor wait three hours for a date outside a building.  An hour or so, and we got the point.  And what is with the fast few seconds repeat of a few seconds we’ve just seen?  For me, these added nothing given their content, and I thought the first 2 times it was my poor transmission, lol.  Warning signs to me, and hope I’m wrong, that actors and script seem to be excellent and better than the direction.

Told myself I wouldn’t be on threads anymore since I have really bad streaming connectivity, but I got curious about Misty and by ep 3 I’m hooked I think. :glasses:

My running thoughts about episode 3.....

Go Hye Ran is Ninja Number 1!!

I love the anti hero vibe she has. She's like my all time favourite character, Oh Hye Won from Secret love Affair.

GHR is the boss of the boss! See how she got him to demote that girl, spectacularly! She is in a position of unofficial authority and can make the boss bend to her whims. She's managing upwards and managing downwards. Boss of the Boss moves!!

Why does the Executive Producer seem hell bent on pushing forward that girl into the prime news slot? Does he have a thing for her? Is he sleeping with her? Or does he want to knock GHR from her pedestal because she rose above him? He sneakily allows the insertion of that "news piece", and that girl has the audacity to come up to the desk to deign to read it as a news item! Girl, go and do some human interest pieces! We all want China to get a grip on their pollution, but not on the 9 pm news!!:D

It seems that girl doesn't know when to retreat and when to attack. She should have laid low after being cut down to size last week, but Nooo! She antagonises GHR in that scene in the toilet. She is high on the sentiments everyone has about her being the fresh blood who will take over from GHR. She thinks Kevin can smooth the way for her because he is playing golf with the Station President. Now she is going to the bunduz (pronounced "boon dooz" , i.e backwater place), with no chance to take over in one year, or when GHR goes to the Blue House. The difference in office politics experience between GHR and herself shows clearly here.

There is a stereotype that women fight one another and bring one another down, but we see how GHR works indirectly to get her Sunbae back on the morning show.  I can safely assume that this friend was also pushed out because of her age. Sisterhood of the Ahjummas! (Also, when GHR pretended not to know anything about her return to achoring duty ) My favourite scene in episode 3 was when GHR and her reporter friend Yoon Song-Yi were drinking wine at that hotel. I love those scenes of older characters, especially women, just hanging out and drinking and being awesome.

Age 40 seems to be the limit for careers in Korea, and if you haven't gone high enough the ladder, you are condemned to a life of running in one spot. I have an over 40 Ahjumma friend who told me that she has NO chance of getting a job in Korea after she returned there. She had to start a business instead. She'd been working in the hotel industry outside Korea when we met.

At first, I thought that GHR went back to work immediately after a miscarriage. everyone kept talking about an abortion on this forum and I thought, nope, not that extreme. I thought hubby was angry with her because she didn't mourn the baby and threw herself right back to work, while pushing him away. Man! She aborts the kid, and I ask myself how desperate she is for her career, then we realise that her father in law was an additional factor, and I can't hate this woman!!^_^

I like how far down the path she is gone. A transactional marriage, abortion, crazy in-laws, and a murder investigation. This will make a beautiful love story as they work together to prove her innocence and fall in love. Apart from contract marriage and noona stories, I love stories of married people who fight for their marriage.

PS: Do y'all think that Kevin's wife suspects that there was something between GHR and Kevin? I wondered why she watched that 9pm news with such a look. She wasn't happy.

PPS: Other hilarious moment... when the cops are watching the accident scene, referring to the detective....

cop1: why are Forensics here?

cop 2:  Why do you think? He's making a big deal out of this again. It's a hobby of his.

hahahahah!!

Burn! :glasses:

PPPS: what are the ratings for this episode?
