“Find Me In Your Memory” Starts Out With Stable Premiere Ratings

The ratings are out for the premiere of MBC’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama “Find Me in Your Memory!”

“Find Me in Your Memory” tells the love story between Lee Jung Hoon (Kim Dong Wook), a news anchor with hyperthymesia (a condition in which people remember an abnormal amount of their life in extreme detail), and Yeo Ha Jin (Moon Ga Young), a rising actress who has forgotten some of the most important moments in her life.

According to Nielsen Korea, the March 18 premiere episode recorded average nationwide ratings of 3.0 percent in the first half and 4.5 percent in the second half. MBC dramas air an hour earlier than KBS dramas (SBS does not air dramas on Wednesdays and Thursdays), so they are not in direct competition, but 4.5 percent was the highest average rating recorded by any drama that aired on a public broadcast channel on Wednesday night.

In close competition was KBS’s “Forest,” which is nearing its final episode. The March 18 broadcast recorded ratings of 4.3 and 4.2 percent, just a few decimal points behind “Find Me in Your Memory.”

On cable, tvN’s “Memorist” recorded average nationwide ratings of 3.434, similar to last week‘s premiere ratings.

LJH

Hyperthymesia that he have, should be working fine for his job as anchorman. But seems the problem start to occur, when he kept remembering his lost love and it can happened at any given time. Lost love itself for normal people can be rather traumatic but perhaps with his condition, it will amplified & multiplied his pain due to vividness of his memory. So far, I like his character that stands for opressed people and not scared to say the right things.

YHJ

The actress look silly at first, but she's a sincere person and even shes not at wrong she choose to be at peace with KYR. I think I believe when she said shes a honest person, and eager to find why she kept changing her stands. I think she have reversed situation compare to him.

Combined together they have good chemistry, from their first meeting he's already rather at odd with her and shes kind in charge of him. He even give up his blue neck tie :sweatingbullets: Good start of the drama I will say.

Extra note. The title is Find Me in Your Memory, could it be he might had met her somewhere before, but he forgotten her, despite his super memory?

Chemistry between Kim Hye-soo & Ju Ji-hoon works in Hyena despite the12-year age gap, so I learnt not to make any assumptions before watching this drama. Like the performance of the leads and also the supporting cast in news dept and entertainment agency so far in EP1-2.

It's too early to judge if the story is good enough. Hope it would be well-paced in later episodes, and not be boring.

@Heidi Seow I watched ep 2 without getting distracted with my phone etc. The flow & the pace was smooth and the OTP do have great chemistry. This last ending from ep 1 & 2 was beautifully done too.

:sweatingbullets: was I the only one who was shocked when it ended?? The whole episode went by fast I did not expect it to end just like that!

A sign of a good show I guess. Hopefully this continues throughout...

and surprisingly I don't feel the age gap as much - she looks quite matured through her fashion, cause I've seen some people talk about the fact that she 'sounds' young/childish but so far I'm liking her character.

KDW as well - I am just so excited to see him tackle a romantic lead role

@blademanU not the only one feel shocked when it ended. Like KDW already told us, each ep will end in unexpected. :D

Moon Ga-young looks great in here, of course mature too. I won't say 'sound' childish actually. More like cheerful happy go lucky person.. Look at the way she agree her movie won't go well part. I cracked badly at that part.

This is 1st time Im seeing KDW in romance drama and yes! I super excited.

Very good point!  Is it possible that he could be missing something?  But I am also wondering if this title has something to do with her medical condition.  Is it possible that she is beginning to lose all of her memories?  I like this show a  lot already, so I will be really very annoyed if this is a case of early onset Alzheimers.

@thistleand @Lawyerh So, this guy,  the anchor might have a condition like in the drama "Remember". What could be her connection to him. I wonder. In the drama, "A thousands day promise", the lead female had early onset Alzheimers.

Gosh, I think you might be right. Kocowa’s summary for the drama says her memory is fading away. The conclusion of the summary says:

The man who cannot forget and the woman whose memory is fading away. Will they be able to overcome their difficulties, understand each other and fall in love at the end?

This is what I'm afraid of because I thought of A Thousand Days Promise right away--I never could watch all the way through that one because the subject made me sad.  If you've ever lost a loved one to dementia, it's not something you want to see as a subject for entertainment afterward.

I suspect that the connection between the FL and the ML is that she was his lover's best friend from school, judging from the quick scenes we got of the two together in episode 2.

I hope I'm wrong.  But that summary does sound suspiciously like that.  There have been some light-hearted moments in the first two episodes so if we're lucky the drama won't go all darkness and doom as we go on.

I'm just getting back to watching dramas after a long drama-drought (had to take time to recover from watching far too many shows that ended badly or otherwise went horribly wrong last year) and I have high hopes that Find Me in Your Memory will be good.  Drama Gods, please don't let us down!

@thistle, teasers can be misleading but one of the voiceovers for one of the teasers suggest that “she lost her memory....and she lost chunks of time...” Also, there’s a male voiceover saying that “Ms Yeo has been my patient for a long time”. The voice sounds like male lead’s friend. Male lead also asks, “Could she never retrieve the memories she lost?”

So I guess there’s definitely something amiss about YHJ’s memory.

@blademan, I love YHJ’s personality. She’s frank and easy going even when dealing with someone as blunt and anti-social as JH seem to be.

I was very impressed by Moon Ga Young's performance in Tempted. Her character was the most memorable out of that dud tbh. I'm also amazed by her age (she's just 23!) Her character here is sweet & her waist was sooo tiny!

Enjoy her banter with Anchor Lee. They really make a cute pairing. I was wondering if the doctor transplanted her dead friend's memories onto her..? Sounds far fetched but well, it is a K-Drama after all LoL.

I'm hoping that maybe more study on both their brains help heal each other or at least 1 of them if I'm going the positive route :D.

I definitely hope that it's just "chunks of time" lost due to trauma or something more recoverable than Alzheimers (which is a death sentence after all).  It would be too sad if she were losing all of her memories little by little.

YHJ is really a fun character.  She is so honest and doesn't seem to count the consequences fast enough.  I also liked that YHJ showed concern for LJH when he zoned out during their interview.

LJH was not as immediately likeable as YHJ but his character is beginning to shine through because we can see that he is so traumatised by the death of his lover.

And speaking of the death of LJH's lover, we need to ask if she jumped off that roof (why) or if she was pushed by someone (who and why).

@thistle, I also wondered if JH’s first love committed suicide or she was pushed. I think it’s the way her body was positioned before she fell from the roof that made me wonder if it was foul play. In any case, I think from the preview the next episode will show more about both ladies and the past.

I found it interesting that LJH's hyperthymesia condition could be not genetic? As it seems he only started to have it at 6 y.o., since Feb 11, 1990. Is there any event triggering his condition?

And one thing that surprise me, during his discussion with his late gf, his memory about Henry Thoreau quote seems only vague at it best. He mentioned, he think he heard that from somewhere. With his super memory, isn't he supposed to be able to recall all the details?

As, I'm curious I borrowed Wiki resource, and found some of these interesting details about the condition.

Spoiler

•Even those with a high level of hyperthymesia do not remember exactly everything in their lives or have "perfect memory".

•Their memorization of events tends to exceed their ability to memorize given facts; for example, if you told a hyperthymesiac a fact about the world, they may not remember what you said, but they will more likely remember what you wore and other details of the situation when you told them.

Regarding YHJ possible Alzheimer early onset, I think it could be due to post traumatic effect after what happened to her friend.

On the lighter note, I'm pretty sure YHJ first love is LJH?  She saw him at ballet class? First love trope, as always k-dramaland...

Many questions, but it's good when drama give us many things to ponder. Isn't it?

Dynamic episodes and music. I like it.

That was a beautiful scene with the sparkly city in the background...

I wonder how alcohol really affects JH.  At least he's not as sensitive as SSR in perfume.  Wonder if they'll revisit that later or a funny drunk scene since he's so uptight.
