Was not able to watch live...but I am at the moment watching the cuts on IG..( SBS unlike TVN does not release the vids on YT). You can check out this IG handle

It is really funny...it will be an understatement to say that he uses very unorthodox ways of dealing with cons and bullies alike

Some nicely choreographed fight scenes

Spoiler

Besides being introduced to all the characters, we see that his temper and  the fact that he can never be indifferent to others sufferings, lands him in hot soup and even jail time sometimes- or at least he gets detained.

Spoiler

ehhhh...this is the sleazy guy from Misty...looks like he's a bad guy here?

Spoiler

Ahhh such a waste that he's the priest...  :D

Woo hoo ...this week i got my two  man back  in the dramas  :yum:....one here is Kim Nam Gil , my Heo Im :kiss_wink:   ..no subs yet but quick preview i think " Honey"  will change his occupation for the third time lol

Our gorgeous KNG ( no priestly vibes from this man for me lol  )  might have anger issues, however i see him and the hair curlers as the sane ones in the  asylum of supposed norm .

Article: Naver 'The Fiery Priest' Kim Nam Gil's first appearance as a gangster priest.. "Hananim (God) wants to beat you up more"

1. [+295,-12]
Protestants would use "Hananim", Catholics would address Him as "Haneunim". [t/n: not sure if there's a difference in English? :') ] Please take note of that and write it properly. [t/n: talking about the article title.]

2. [+145,-1]
I know why scriptwriter Park Jae Bum wants only Kim Nam Gil to do this now. He matches the character Kim Hae Il so well.

3. [+124,-0]
Actor Kim Nam Gil, fighting~~

4. [+113,-7]
Hananim X, Hanunim O. "Hananim" is a term Protestants use.

5. [+69,-2]
Ah, it's fun. Going to be a first broadcast killer for the next episode too.

6. [+34,-0]
Kim Nam Gil's acting skills are good. His strong charisma made me fall for him!!.. Ah, it's interesting.. Makes me wait for tomorrow.

7. [+22,-1]
It's difficult to act as someone who has anger problems, but he's totally possessed by the character. ㅜㅜㅜㅜㅜ

8. [+18,-0]
This is so comical~^^ I enjoyed it so much.. The actors have good acting skills too. Anyway, guess I have something to watch on Fridays now~~~ Everyone's having it hard these days.. it's nice to have something to watch while laughing.. I look forward to next week^^

@triplem I think I will. I like KNG and although I have not started on Rebel yet, Honey Lee looks so beautiful and elegant. Gotta get some work done first though!

sure @triplem; will check it out... haven't seen it but am wondering if they are referring to how the job title is referred? like among catholics, they say priest and would address him as "father" while protestants say pastor.....

I’m not sure if there’s a difference in Korean but I’m assuming there is . Maybe @stroppyse , if you don’t mind you can enlighten us if there’s difference in how they address a catholic priest vs a Protestant pastor in Korean?

Available on Viu SG. Viu Malaysia is taking ages even with its other dramas like the crown Clown

based on the netizen comments, am assuming there is... just based on that comment, am wondering if there would be lots of liberties taken and so will have to close my eyes to any funny doxology/rituals that might pop up. :sweatingbullets:...

just an aside, the idea of priest trying to correct wrong isn't that far stretched in korea as they have a kind of history. this was referred to in the drama "giant" if folks ever saw that...

SBS’s 1st Friday-Saturday Drama “The Fiery Priest” Premieres To Impressive Ratings

by E. Cha
8ddf659b8ca6498fabd6f3fb259b7acb.jpeg?s=

SBS’s new drama “The Fiery Priest” is off to a strong start!

According to Nielsen Korea, “The Fiery Priest” enjoyed a successful premiere on February 15. The drama’s first broadcast scored average nationwide viewership ratings of 10.4 percent during its first half and 13.8 percent during its second.

The premiere’s ratings are particularly noteworthy because “The Fiery Priest” marks SBS’s first-ever Friday-Saturday drama—the broadcast network even changed the time slot of its long-running variety show “Law of the Jungle” in order to accommodate the new drama.

“The Fiery Priest” is a unique new mystery-comedy about a hot-tempered Catholic priest and a bumbling detective who join forces to solve a murder.

So, there is a difference between a pastor (of a Protestant church) vs a priest (of a Catholic church). A pastor is most commonly called a "mok-sa" (or "mok-sa-nim" when they're being addressed). A priest is most commonly called a "shin-bu" (or "shin-bu-nim" when they're being addressed).

This, however, is a bit strange, and I would want to see the original Korean comment to try to figure out what they were talking about. The word for God is "Ha-neu-nim" whether one is Protestant or Catholic. "Ha-na-nim" may refer to calling God the "Only One" or something like that since "ha-na" is one of the ways to say "1", however, the word that directly refers to God is "Ha-neu-nim". Another word to refer to God is "Shin" which is also the same word to refer to gods, btw. Again, this word is the same for Protestants and Catholics. There are other words that can used to reference God as well, including local preferences, but those two are the major ones. Hope this helps.

@Lmangla, just tagging you since you were the other member of this conversation with @triplem. :) I think @triplem has nearly convinced me to give this drama a try, so I'm going to when I get a couple of free hours to catch the premier episodes. It sounds fun from your various posts thus far.

Finally I finished my work and managed to catch Ep 1! It was a fun first episode and I was laughing at how Prosecutor Park (Honey Lee) kept saying how handsome Priest Kim was. Is there not going to be a possible love line? Anyway I was really appalled at the level of corruption in the town where Priest Kim was sent to stay temporarily with his mentor. The police just left and let the thugs beat up the protestors??? And how that business man CEO Hwang just bullied and beat his way to getting what he wants? And I’m wondering about the detective (sorry I don’t remember his name yet) and if he is also as corrupted as his team members? It doesn’t seem so. He kept getting sent away by his team leader to do other things. It’s interesting to see how these two will team up. I’m predicting a lot of beating up from the Priest. :joy:

Thanks for explaining @stroppyse . I just finished the 1st eps and really enjoyed it .

Yay @joonminfan so happy we’re going to share a drama thread again. I was so tickled at her admiration for Father Kim. I can’t believe she confronted him over the way he handled the confession. :joy: But Father Kim is so right though , even his sermon was spot on . His temper is a problem of course but he tells it as it is - no sugar coating . I think this parish will need a Father like him , someone strong enough to stand against the evil & corrupt in this part of town . ( I am always hoping for there to be romance of course :D ). It seems Father Kim is in this vocation to find peace & overcome his inner demons so to speak . He was in the special forces before this & I’m assuming what he’s done & seen must have been the reason there’s so much inner anger .

I think what I also really like is that  the characters here are a little rough around the edges even Lee Honey’s tough as nails Prosecutor Park a.k.a as Sister Angela. @LyraYoo I love how she won’t take any bullying lying down. Take for instance when she confronted that younger lawyer who talked down to her  during the dinner with the Chief Prosecutor. I am looking forward to when she works with Father Kim to take down the bad guys

based on the synopsis I read , I have a bad feeling about Father Lee. Spoiler ahead

Spoiler

Kim Hae-Il (Kim Nam-Gil) is a Catholic priest. He makes spiteful remarks and he can be rude to others. Koo Dae-Young (Kim Sung-Kyun) is a detective. He talks a lot and he is also timid. Park Kyung-Sun (Lee Ha-Nee) is a prosecutor. She is smart and beautiful. She is also ambitious as a prosector and good at her job.

Catholic Priest Kim Hae-Il, Detective Koo Dae-Young and Prosecutor Park Kyung-Sun work together to solve a murder case involving a senior Catholic priest.

——/—-

think it’s Father Lee that will be murdered

There were many comedic moments as well . It’s obvious Kim is well loved by the community that he was serving in before this . It was so cute & hilarious to see a Protestant pastor , a Buddhist monk & a fellow priest work to secure his freedom at the beginning of the episode.

Anyway looking foreward to eps 2 !

If it is KNG then we have to watch!! I am still coming to terms with his role of a Priest (no love lines. Let me get that into my brain!) Unless he is not a priest! :w00t:  The man lights up the screen.

Kim Sung Kyung seems wasted in ep 1. He deserves a stronger role even if it is of a comic relief. Lee Ha Nui is perfect! :lol:Her voice modulation itself is hilarious.

I am not looking forward to ep 2 simply because something bad might happen to the old priest.

BTS !!!

.

@staygold yippee ! You’re watching too . I’m hoping he’ll quit since it may not really be the right vocation for him . So that we can hv some romance   ( dear Lord , forgive me ) Think he’s just using this to deal with his PTSD or something like that
