Yes I really should! Have been thinking about what to watch all day, between now to ep 5 of The Third Charm :)

I love that he can be so hot & dorky all at the same time . :tounge_xd:

that guy in the saloon is no  competition. I’ll have Joon Yoong any day

I have a thing for devoted nerdy men too :)

This ML is way too unrealistic, so hot and even when nerdy, he is cute.

By the way, is it just me, or since Cheese in The Trap, Seo Kang Joon's face (especially his eyes) changed subtly? I sort of preferred his face / look in Cheese In The Trap. His eyelid area... just somehow seems "debloated". Perhaps he just lost a lot of weight.

Ahhh I didn't have time to come here when everyone is here :tears: Anyway I finished the last two episodes (and successfully made my sister watch the drama with me) and I have to say I love it so far! We're so lucky to have all the lovey dovey and sweetness so early in the drama  Four kisses so far in four episodes, my goodness! There's at least one more coming up next week judging from the preview!! I guess I'm similar to a lot of comments here, wondering why they broke up when it seems like things are going great so far. I guess that he's insecure and weirdly jealous about the second guy, which is the reason why they broke up? It has the signs like calling all the time and getting jealous of another guy. Also the poster, which is them in their 30s, have YJ with a stricken facial expression and JY looking at her longingly, which makes me think that he has to do something wrong that results in the breakup... but we have to wait and see :3

Also! The ex-girlfriend of the brother! Where is she? I feel like she died because of the serial killer. Reasoning:
- the brother wants to be a police officer, but he can't because of his immobility, so he starts writing detective thriller novels instead to project himself into the character inside his novel. His novel is about a police officer (his projection) whose girlfriend got killed by a serial killer.

- The girlfriend is nowhere to be seen

- YJ mentioned "My brother's ex-gf used to buy me gift too" when giving a present to JY's sister. Usually, if things end badly between your brother and his girlfriend, you're not going to mention her again, so that seems like something else happens to her??

I really wonder if the serial killer will become a bigger part of the plot. I'd really prefer not, because I like this drama as a slice of life, seeing how people deal with ordinary lives and usual relationship problem like jealousy, insecurity, personality difference etc. rather than taking a thriller turn.

@triplem Your comment on ep 3 is so great to read! Couldn't say it better myself!

Hmmm I didn't watch Cheese in the trap, but I watch some clips on YT that has SKJ, and I guess you're right, I think he lost weight here than in Cheese in the trap. But I guess I can understand it a bit since him in CITT is a college kid so he can be a bit chubbier to look young as compared to his more recent dramas where he plays adult roles? Those photos are both heart-stopping to me though

Ok I know this is not exactly in topic so I'll put it in the spoilers:

Spoiler

As someone who watches both INAR and AYHT, I think they have very different styles, as INAR is romance whereas AYHT focuses more on the "politic plot" than the romance. AYHT is very good though, you should give it a try! Also SKJ is an absolute cinnamon roll too pure for this world in that drama :3

There are a lot of comments wondering why they'll break for second time @ktcjdrama @rocat

 @Cecentre @nazweena

I don't know if you have read the character descriptions but the YJ's description suggests that she'll break up with JY because she starts to have feelings for the second lead (or that's what I understand).

This was me ....watching  and rewatching eps 4

Spoiler

kVrKNeh.png

My goodness , what a treat...all the sweet kisses , skinship , date scenes. The honeymoon period! I did not want it to end ...but then we have 12 more episodes to go. So the bumps ahead are to be expected.

So one of the reasons why I adore this drama is because you get to see a couple's love story develop right before you. It's not just the initial attraction and romance, but you get to see a couple's ability to stay together once reality and  challenges set in . It's safe to say that JY and YJ are still very much at the beginning of that journey where it seems love ( and them hormones  :D ) will conquer all, but the drama already hints at potential things that will test this newly formed relationship. JY casually mentions that YJ is not actually his ideal type. YJ's boss-bestie says he really isn't the sort of guy she'd usually tolerate - super sensitive, fussy. What's really cute is how there seems to be a reversal of roles here with him being all clingy  and ahjumma like ( love that lunch box he made her) , and her being more relaxed and cool about things. (I am stereotyping here of course)

We often hear about how opposites attract and I can tell you that is true...that person that is so vastly different from you often seems more exciting and makes your heart race. But those very same qualities that attracted you to that person can also be the very things that turn you off and annoy you no end ( ahahaha married almost a decade and dated a lot before that , so definitely speaking from experience here. Don't let my hubby read this ) The pertinent question here is whether individuals who are polar opposites in terms of interest and personalities  like JY and YJ ( gosh even their initials are reversed) can overcome their differences once the honeymoon phase is over. Are both parties willing to give and take? Are they able to be honest with each other and open up communication channels? Are they going to trust the other person and have confidence in themselves? It's these things that will help the couple last the distance.

So when they do break up again the 2nd time, it isn't  going to be because he can't eat spicy food or that she doesn't like sappy sad movies that he enjoys. It won't even be about the competition from Mr Plastic Surgeon. It will definitely be because there was a breakdown in trust ,  a  lack in communication and a   clash in values where neither party is willing to compromise on.

Anyhow I am jumping ahead of myself. I do hope that there's good treatment to YJ's supposed infidelity as per character chart. The last thing I want is for her to look like the "witch" here .  Edit : dear lord , Not just a love triangle but a love quadrangle . Ahhh k dramas !!!

@122am  yes sweet and sensitive men - my weakness. :D But for free spirits like YJ, it may come across as suffocating.

Thanks @Cecentre

@dulcinea1 Thank you for the character descriptions!  I was wondering what they are going to cover in the last 10+ episodes.  Sang Hyun and Ri Won will be entertaining to watch if they are going to get together. The Third Charm will be what it is about the other person that affirm for us she/he is the one @triplem  despite the second (after the first chemical instant attraction) laying out the logics, the pluses and minuses columns on paper. You’re welcome @7psyche7. Beautiful kiss indeed

@the girl who! at least based on naver articles , good response from domestic viewers

@tianaa agreed . She’s one of those actresses who can cry beautifully .

The Third Charm] Ep 3 Seo Kang Joon and Esom reunites after 7 years and made up with a kiss

  • On Joon Young (Seo Kang Joon) finds out that Young Jae (Esom) broke up with him because of her brother who is going through a tough time and needed her emotional support.
  • He apologizes to her and they make up with a kiss.

1. [+875,-13]
The story is interesting. Seo Kang Joon's acting has gotten a lot better. I'm immersed in it.

2. [+709,-7]
The female lead's situation made my heart hurt. ㅠㅠㅠ Under those kind of circumstances, boyfriend or whatever, she wouldn't need it. ㅠㅠ I'm having a hard time, who would listen to me? She wouldn't want to date men who can't sympathize with her. Under those circumstances, she wouldn't want to meet anyone for sure.

3. [+534,-9]
Seo Kang Joon is so handsome that I didn't know he's so good at acting. I really like his gaze.

4. [+171,-3]
Going to be a first broadcast killer tomorrow too. ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

5. [+153,-10]
Love you, Kang Joon-ah. ♡

6. [+126,-4]
No, but the immersion is no joke.. I teared up without knowing while watching Young Jae cry. When Joon Young apologized for not knowing anything, my tears flowed out. 1 hr passed by so quickly. The acting, story development, and music, they are all good.

7. [+63,-2]
Seo Kang Joon ㅠㅠㅠ His acting is really good.

8. [+58,-3]
Seo Kang Joon is somehow sexy and cute that his charms are exploding. Esom is good too.

9. [+55,-3]
Seo Kang Joon's acting is so real. ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ His teeth correction acting, and even his drunk acting. ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

Article: Naver 'The Third Charm' Seo Kang Joon to Esom, "Are you happy to see me?"

1. [+733,-15]
Seo Kang Joon's acting is good... To be honest, he should gain recognition for it. ㅠㅠ

2. [+303,-13]
Third Charm is interesting, but people don't even watch it ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Please watch Seo Kang Joon before saying anything.

3. [+213,-4]
I really, really like dramas like this one. ㅠㅠ

4. [+144,-4]
His acting when he's drunk is really good.

5. [+52,-1]
Why did they break up at 27.. Is it because of the other man?? Ah, by the way, On Joon Young is so handsome. ㅠㅠ

6. [+53,-4]
So pretty.

7. [+46,-1]
What is the genre of this drama? Why do I keep tearing up~ it's fun~

8. [+39,-0]

I had guessed it when Yang Dong Geun did labour work...

Don't think the gf got killed, coz I thought I saw a scene of the gf crying when YJ arrived at the hospital? GF might have left him because of his disability. Perhaps she can't handle it, parents insist she breaks up with SJ or perhaps SJ felt bad and chased her out of his life...these are pretty realistic possibilities

I am waiting to see development between buddy and sister too :)

Although nothing was said about the gf, she does seem to no longer be around since SJ lost the use of the strong thighs he was so proud of,  and his gf liked. If she were dead, I think it would have been mentioned. His accident was at work, and she was at the hospital right after the accident and was the one who called YJ. Maybe what happened with her will be revealed later. Otherwise, it's a dropped ball by the scriptwriter.

As much as I'm enjoying the story and the acting, to me there's a disconnect between Joon Young's confident police team leader and his naive and insecure 27-year-old bf outside of work. It's like he barely matured in 7 years, but only in his personal life. Joon Young's acting is great. It's the writing of the character that's off.

The doctor does look much older than Joon Young. Min Woo Hyuk is 36, so in real life, that's 12 years difference between the two men, and it shows, especially because MWH is also tall and very athletic, as a former baseball player. He's a fabulous singer (not K-pop idol),  a very successful musical stage actor, and very popular these days  (Les Mis, Wicked, Aida, Anna Karenina, Frankenstein,  etc.). He also holds the record for highest score (given by fans) on "Immortal Songs", and holds any wins on that show.  He was also on "House Husbands".  He's well-known in Korea, so it'll be interesting to see if he adds to the ratings by bringing the demographics that are his fans. The doctor character is supposed to be sweet, gentlemanly, and also self-confident, and successful,  but obviously he's not meant for YJ.  But I'm thinking he'd be a perfect fit for YJ's boss/ best friend!!  He definitely checks every box of her ideal type... Lol.

@bedifferentIt will be interesting to see what will bring them together again the third time . I can foresee the problems the OTP has at this point . Take for instance the difference in how they approach the balance between relationship & work . Joon Young would prioritise her over work - see how quickly he tries to solve the case & how he always wants to see her . Let’s not forget being a cop was never his ambition or dream ( though he’s great at his job ) - it was a career choice that came about because he was reacting to her comment that he could never be one . She on the other hand is ambitious- she prioritises her work over the relationship. She’s seeking opportunities for her career growth & in realising her dream to be in big fashion shows . She’s alright not seeing him for 3 days & wants to be focused at work. It’s nothing wrong with either approach but the issue would be mismatched expectations & unfulfilled needs from the relationship.

Thanks @tali58 for the info on MWH. While for oppa ogling purposes , he would not be my type , but he does have a certain scene presence . ( what to do my heart is set on SKJ’s Joo Young ) I

am happy the drama has brought in a solid cast for the various roles here. I think it’s important that he is her ideal type because it opens up the question of whether that in itself is sufficient for a relationship to last . Looking forward to how this will all unfold.

5 Things we learned from The Third Charm press conference

...
1. Expect to see real-life dating issues

Some K-drama relationships are a pure fantasy. But Esom and Seo Kang Joon’s is super relatable, because they bicker and quarrel just like the rest of us. “You’ll see real-life struggles. [Young Jae and Joon Young] are constantly making choices and some of them lead to fights, which I thought was similar to real-life dating. There’s going to be a fight scene, which will show the highs and lows a couple goes through in their relationship,” Seo Kang Joon elaborated.

2. Seo Kang Joon fell for his ordinary, unremarkable character

“I had an intuitive conviction. In retrospect, Joon Young was charming because he was different from the characters I’d played. I didn’t need to be cool. So I chose him,” the Are You Human Toostar explained.

3. Esom and her character Young Jae are very similar

“Young Jae is very direct. After meeting Esom, I felt she was similar to Young Jae. So I casted her,” director Pyo Min Soo said.

4. Third Charm is a comedy and a melodrama

The Third Charm is comical and melodramatic at once. According to director Pyo, it’s a story of “... ordinary people. The characters will remind you of people around you. It’s comical, melodramatic and humanistic at once.”

5. The Third Charm means…

Director Pyo listed three things to look out for in Third Charm: The roles, the characters, and the actors. It’d be interesting to think about what the third charm means to you as you watch the drama.

Ohn Joon Young fell in love with a girl who permed his hair. Lee Young Jae fell in love with a boy who was a nerdy bookworm. A humiliating night scared Young Jae from pursuing her heart and broke Joon Young’s. When they meet years later, can they overcome that one terrible night? Join C.C. Farmer, SergeantBookster and me, Wendilynn as we talk about our first impressions of The Third Charm.

SergeantBookster: I believe that they only had what they thought was love between them because it was the first time they were ever accepted as a true friend, and that crush developed into something deeper, more heartfelt. And so goes my philosophy of the day.

Wendilynn: You have a point that they were both starting out, but considering how hard Joon Young took it, I think he fell hard. Kang Seo Joon was so adorkable in his braces and afro. Oh my goodness, I was laughing so much as they introduced his character. He so needs to lighten up. Lol

SergeantBookster: You have a point. He was cute in a dorky-I-love-to-study way. But I feel bad for the boys that watched this. They may be having nightmares about hair curlers and mannequin heads.

C.C. Farmer: Those braces. Oh, and who was the guy giving dating advice who drives the red car? He makes me think of Rain from Full House. Is he the same guy that is smelling his socks in the first scene of episode one. Or is he a different dude?

( PD Pyo' directed Full House... so homage it is.)

Wendilynn: ROFL!! No, the best friend is not the same dude who was smelling his dirty socks in the car. That was a fellow cop. But I agree with you, Lee Sang Yi who played the college best friend has a Rain-esq quality to him. I loved how he didn’t let that witch of a girl get away with humiliating Young Jae. I was all set to take him for a standard playboy character but when he dumped her butt after the partner night, I cheered.

C.C. Farmer: So did I. When the boys were getting a number to switch backpacks, they both mentioned having other girlfriend and boyfriends. Which made me think both were players. It is nice that there is integrity.

SergeantBookster: I was so not seeing that coming though- the switching of the backpacks. /Smacks forehead/ I’m so stupid at some points in time. like oh, they have matching backpacks that’s cool. Then it was what in the world? Where did the mannequin come from!

Wendilynn: During the beer drinking contest, Young Jae was holding both backpacks and so that’s how they got switched. When Joon Young screamed after seeing the head for the first time, I admit, I laughed for a long time. Kang Seo Joon is this gorgeous beautiful creature and he did a great job building a character you just wouldn’t see like that at all. I was really impressed with the fact that I forgot it was Kang Seo Joon under that perm, glasses, and braces. And Esom was just as awesome. I loved her spunk. I loved the relationship she had with her brother. It was so much better than the one Joon Young had with his sister.

C.C. Farmer: That sister of his must really like to watch modern Thai dramas, or anything with boy love because she keeps bringing the issue up with her brother. She really makes a good character in the way she does not let us get comfortable. She unlocks his bedroom door after he locked it to call and at the end of episode two she tells his parents that he is dating. Is she the boss of the family? The dynamics in the family are different.

SergeantBookster: That reminds me of a little sibling I know. She always unlocks my door when I try to keep her out. I understand how he feels, yelling at her to get out. He should have grabbed her keys before he pushed her out though. It’s like pushing someone away from a bomb but handing them a pack of matches. You’re just stalling the ignition. But why was Main lead female so embarrassed about her lack of schooling?

Wendilynn: Well, for several reasons, mostly because she hadn’t been honest with Joon Young that she wasn’t a broadcast student. But, even now, people get a little snobby about being a college graduate and who’s not. White collar vs. blue collar workers, that sort of thing. And let's face it, the witch was just plain jealous of Young Jae and tried to humiliate her in front of other college kids. That’s just going to rub a person the wrong way.

C.C. Farmer: I will be glad if these are the only two episodes of backstory we get.

SergeantBookster: He looks good in a military outfit.

Wendilynn: He’d look good in a garbage bag, let's be real. Lol, I wouldn’t expect more backstory, I don’t see how they could build on their relationship more unless they go into her career, but, we’ve already seen him become a cop, so it should be forward on from here.

I'm glad that I didn't drop this drama after last weeks episodes because ep3 & ep4 were quite satisfiying.

Esom has really her very own charm, she can look as badass woman if she doesn't smile but once she does she looks like an innocent baby hahaha...Getting here a bit of her BTIMFL character vibe

I'm sorry if this has been asked before but anyone knows how YJ got JY's phone number after she was taken to the police for the arguement with the woman in ep 3 (train scene)?

And also how did YJ get JY home after he got drunk (also ep 3)? Initially I thought she'd called her brother for help but then it wouldn't be possible for him to lift JY up...so...and it was never revealed

I was wondering the same things. So I noticed that the script tends to just skip the kind of details you pointed out. It just leaves it, I guess, for us to assume that they exchanged numbers at the police station, or their numbers didn't change in 7 years and neither deleted the other's number... ...and that when he was drunk, she got him into a taxi then guided him up the stairs.... We're basically left to fill in those blanks.

@Triplem, how do I remove images from a quote? Thanks! :)

Funny comment about oppa ogling. Lol. Min Woo Hyuk has an interesting face, because every time I've seen him perform, he looks different, depending on his hair style, outfit, the character he assumes. He goes from old- fashioned to badass, from older to boyish. From super polite, old-style "proper" to "intense sexy." So I'm anticipating he'll bring some of that here as the doctor becomes a rival of Joo Young. Should be fun!! :)

In an interview, he said that when they offered him the role, he accepted it because he thought it was a good role he couldn't reject, even though he had just finished a rigorous run starring on stage in the musical "Frankenstein," and was tired. But that the role and the story were "refreshing." So I'm thinking they'll be some great scenes with our main couple.  He has the reputation of being very generous to other actors, and helpful to younger actors, so SKJ will have a chance to really develop his Joo Young with a supportive Sunbae. I'm looking forward to their scenes together and seeing how Joo Young deals with having an older competition. :)

@flake since this isn't a detective/mystery solving drama, I guess the writer/director decided those are not important details to be included. My own guess would be YJ knew which station JY was posted, so she told the officer to contact JY from that station. I don't think YJ was the one who called JY. Can't remember that part. As for drunk, it shouldn't be difficult to half carry/support JY to her apartment since it might have lift access because her brother would need to be able to go in and out by himself. He seems quite independent. And having taken care of her brother for seven years, I bet YJ has worked up some physical strength as well to handle a grown man's weight.

I must say that, apart from the main couple (which I love), I like the other characters a lot. Especially his sister (On Ri Won). I can't wait for watching how the writer develops her storyline with his bestfriend (Hyun Sang Hyun). I really hope they have a lot of scenes.

On the other hand, I like her boss/bestfriend (Baek Joo Ran), but I find her plot a little repetitive. I wish all her fail dates don't last very long.

In ep 4, YJ tells JY that some male customers get aroused when she washes their hair so I think that may be a contributing factor to JY feeling insecure/not liking her washing male customers' hairs. LOL

@triplem agree with you 100% that part of the charm of this drama is that you see a relationship develop between 2 very different people with 2 very different backgrounds and what that actually means. Yes, in the beginning the differences are charming and attractive and new but like you said, after a while, those differences begin to nag at you and it can be a real challenge. It will be interesting to see how their relationship evolves through time since the differences between YJ and JY aren't limited to their backgrounds and personalities but it extends to the way they approach life.

I found it interesting that JY made a seemingly impulsive choice to drop out of college and become a police officer given his nature. He's a planner and a meticulous one at that so this move is totally out of character for him. I thought that was interesting because with this one choice alone, you can see the impact the YJ has on him. Because this is true when it comes to real life relationships as well, both parties affect the other in one way or another especially if they are opposites. I can't wait to see how both of them evolve because of each other over the years.

PS. I love JY's parents.. they're kinda cute

Why do I get the feeling that Sang Hyun and and Yoon Hye will end up together somehow.. LOL - one is a playboy and the other is desperate to get a man and they've both got a measure of ridiculousness. :D

Wow, Iife has been busy and I’ve been so inactive in the forum for many dramas but I’m finally back to share some thoughts. :)

Just finished watching Mr Sunshine not too long ago and the main OTP did not kiss at all and it was still a beautiful love story. I guess with the onslaught of gazillion dramas starting, I just wanted a breezy love story and so decided to give this a try instead of the other ones with bigger names like So Ji Sub or Seo In Guk, etc...! And I’m SOOO glad!!!

LOVE. LOVE. LOVE THIS DRAMA!!! The OTP is sooo adorable and hilariously funny and yet peppered with touching moments especially with their family members. How refreshing, not your usual built up of childhood hits and misses and finally kissing only in the last 2 episodes (which will still happen since it’s so early in the storyline! :P) type of drama but I love how the first few episodes have progressed so far!!!

And Seo Kang Joon...I’ve never been a fan. Seen him in a few dramas playing 2nd lead or supporting roles. I always felt he was just a fair and “pretty” actor with slightly wooden acting. I especially skipped the Are You Human Too drama coz he played a robot in there...:sweatingbullets:

But I guess with more projects under his belt, he’s gotten more comfy with acting coz he’s so fabulous in this!!! The perm, braces, the awkwardness and his comedic timing are so spot on! For once I don’t see him as a bland pretty boy but one who has acting chops!

And Esom...loved her since BTIMFL. She’s not a conventional Korean beauty but there’s something so adorable about her looks and yet she can pull off the whole sassy, gutsy persona so well. And to think, Sooyoung was the initial choice for the role...I think the OTP’s chemistry would have turn out differently...hmmm...

Anyway, I love the pairing of Kang Joon and Esom, I think I will put it up there with Lee Sung Kyung and Nam Joo Hyuk’s pairing in WFKBJ.

Here’s to more ups and downs (and kisses!) of the lovebirds as they navigate through their romance. Hwaiting! :D

I also love his parents. I also really like that his mother is his father's superior at work -- he being a teacher and she's the principal.

First time in this channel. Annyeonghaseyo, everyone! :D

@triplem I am SO glad that you recommended this show. I'm at the part where, in the first episode, OJY & LYJ eat tteokbokki, and I'm dying of laughter! :joy:

(I have a question about the title, but will read the whole thread first in case it's been discussed. It reminds of the expression "Third time is a charm..."

Annyeong! Yes, I believe it is taken from that expression since they are going to meet again and get together (finally) for the third time in 2018. We're now in the second time round. So expect a break-up...
