@the_sweetroad ~ I read the books long ago and to be honest, she was never one of my favourite authors and I found the books a bit of a meh. okay for a casual read but nothing to remember. there are better casual romance reads in my view. so when I heard this was being adapted, I had to search through memory to figure out which author and series and my reaction was like "wait, what?????? why????? there are so many better historical romance series out there!" 

I intensely disliked season 1; it was basically two pretty people making out a lot but there was lack of real romance, heart and conflict. I feel like the adaptation forgot the basics of writing for romance or what makes for a good story. as for season 2, I saw the trailer and was like "meh"; even the MVs just got a hmmm from me. not enough to check out. am glad I didn't though -- mostly likely I would be on the side of those a little irritated.

intermarriage at that time has complex historical notes to them and something frothy like bridgerton would not even cover it a true way. if you want to see a more complex picture, "who do you think you are" (a show that traces ancestry, the british edition) covers many actors who actually have indian connections. the stories are actually interesting.. rupert-penry jones (the guy in sense & sensibility) was one. olivia colman was another. her ancestor's story was really interesting as well as sad and romantic. would make a great book/movie! colman's rather emotional response to learning the story was so interesting to watch because it made it seem more than just history.

hehe…I cringed. 
Like how I always do when some K or C actors/actresses speak in another language that tells me it’s their first few forays into it but had to act like they were native speakers. Brave but it’s  soooo uncomfortable to watch. 

There are some who do it quite convincingly though. if I recall correctly, RM is one. Gong Yoo too.

@Lmangla Yeah, it's not the best book series around, but I was in the mood for a light family saga and I like that there are 8 siblings to go through. I also appreciate that it's not a classical romance set-up, where every interaction is stupidly laced with innuendo and unhealthy fixation on how beautiful or how studly someone is. Julia Quinn has the characters dealing with more interesting, weightier foibles and concerns. But each book doesn't go too deep or really wrestle with anything too complex....so they could be better...but I've been entertained. It's hilarious that you were like, "They're making that into a show? Why?!"

 

As far as the show itself, Season 1 was OK for me. I agree with you that there was hardly any real romance or real development of the characters, and they changed the story around so much that a lot of the real drama was cut out. The Queen is a fun, fascinating new character to the show and I love the way the actress portrays her. The whole Featherington family is getting way too much airtime, unfortunately. They had much more of a backseat in the books, except for specifically Penelope's story.

 

Season 2 is better in that it's less graphic and the interaction between the two sisters is great. However, they're also changing so much from the books that it feels like a separate story now. And, like you pointed out, the show doesn't really deal with the complexities of interracial marriages, especially back then. In that way the show is pretty unrealistic. But Season 2 is entertaining me more than Season 1.

 

I think I asked you before, but have you read Outlander? One of my favorite series of all time, but it's fresh and really, really good only through Book 4 (in my opinion). Try it out and we can talk about it!

No, I haven't, but now that you mentioned it, add to to watch list. 

 

Lately, what I'm watching? Mangas  And a movie or two when I could. 

 

There are plenty things that happened the past weeks, I couldn't get the time to have min 3 hours to binge watch. Tsk, I might end up only seeing Dylan and Esther by December.

there was a time when I consumed several books in one week. 

am not a fan of time travel in general -- my mind shortcircuits! hahahaha.. so I have come across many different versions of outlander plot in the book store but was never tempted to pick any of them.
