@packmule3 and others have good comments on this.   I am sure they will be able to enlighten you.

If you notice, San didn't hug him,  she merely leaned her head on Rin.   As I observed,  Rin's hands didn't embrace her as well.    Rin even retrieved his hand from touching San's hair.  It must have meant something.

@packmule3 thank you so much for the welcome :D and also to other WonSaners here who welcome us delurkers :D

Nope, my birthday's in Dec. 91 is for my kpop ult bias' birthyear & 98 is my year & also my 2nd biases' year too, thus also calling you unnie but I will stop now.

As of now, I'm more into my fav kpop groups than kdrama, but I really love TKIL, like this is the kdrama that I am most involved to the point that I created this account just to delurk and share my love and insights for TKIL.

Regarding Ruler, I love how you see the cp and hwagoon's reunion to be romantic. I think that story/drama was gonna be more interesting if they're the OTP but oh well. At least in that drama, the OTP was clearly established that's why it's easier to accept them for me as a 2nd lead shipper :)  unlike TKIL where it is open ending and the OTP not ending up together initially.

But this is also the strength of TKIL for me. The end is not typical for the couple. We didn't get to see Won and San kissing and being together at the end of drama but we know in our hearts that they're together in their hearts, they love and understand each other, and finally after 7 months, they're together in Yuan. Their love goes way beyond the stirrings and butterflies in the stomach. Their love is deep. They're in a long distance relationship. They trust each other. Their imperfections made them perfect for me.

One of the reasons why I also looked forward to watching TKIL is because I finally ship the OTP - Won and San , HanCheon and SoHwa. I'm tired of getting hurt because my feels for my 2nd lead ships is not satisfied because they don't end up together. Now I my shipper heart can die in peace hahaha. I also watch a kdrama called My Secret Romance and I ship the main couple and I am so happy because of course my couple is OTP.

Also, thank you @packmule3 for teaching me the tagging process :)  I'm still new so I'm learning how to do forums. BTW I would love to read your posts for the Ruler drama. Hihi just wanna read your insights about CP and Hwagoon. Somehow, I want to hurt myself a little bit, knowing my ruler ship is not the OTP but I'm living for their moments.

@leedale9198

I don’t think I posted in The Ruler thread. I might have commented about it in another thread because I was “invited” to watch it and post there. But I didn't get to it.

That time, there were three sageuks simultaneously showing on Korean TV, The Ruler, Seven-Day Queen and Sassy Girl. The soompi threads for the first two dramas were moving along quite well but Sassy Girl received less views. I checked the thread out and I found one single poster intrepidly running the whole show. :) So I decided to pitch my tent there and “occupy” that thread...like an unwanted squatter.  I’ll tag her here because she remains one of my good friends. @lavender2love. She did an excellent job keeping the thread afloat. BTW, she was also temporarily banned from posting for some infraction in the drama forum so she has something in common with our ladies here.

Go ahead and tell us your five favorite scenes (not necessarily the “top” ones) from the drama, especially the ones that haven’t been mentioned or have been overlooked. Your list might juggle our memories, too.

For instance, one of my favorite scenes was San vomiting in the bathroom and Won waiting patiently for her to finish. I thought that was cute because normally a Crown Prince wouldn't have done that: attend to his girl when she was sick.

Remember when the Queen was in labor pains and the King was absent?

Also Won was so finicky about dirty things. Like, he called her bracelet dirty and her mask dirty, and he noticed the ink blotting the book. But he didn’t say a word when she threw up in front of him and probably splattering on his princely robes, too. He wasn't grossed out. :)

In the palace, there would have been courtiers and ladies to attend to San when she had an upset tummy. And here Won was taking care of her needs. Then when she climbed onto his bed, he covered her up with his blanket. There was something homely and couple-y about that whole scene.

Personal Service from your boyfriend >>> 1000 servants

@nyeb2tosq  I’m not ignoring your post on Teacher Lee, okay? I was going to respond but I keep on getting distracted.

@vvan23  I was going through our posts here to see if we completed an "analysis" (I can see the eye-rolling of the RS lurkers here, lol) of the "hut conversation" out here in the thread. But we might have only referred to it in parts. Please go ahead and backread for now. :)

You see, the mods didn’t allow the WonSaners to post on the MT immediately after the show ended. I believe @YourHighness . and @Bambiina tried to talk about the hut conversation and they were told to cut it out (or suck it up? I don't know because I avoided the thread). They were accused of SKEWING the dialogue and MISINFORMING the readers. They were told that our narrative didn't fit theirs so we were "engaging in fanfics."

Reaction gifs, please!!!

Image result for yeah right gif

Image result for yeah right gif

Thus, we discussed the ending among ourselves in private. @angelwingssf, @ZarraJae, @Kissy13 do you think you can help her? I’ll post something tonight.

Okay, here you go.

You see, the other thing that annoyed me about this whole drama within a drama is a group of viewers and mods always assumed that the burden of proof is on the WonSan.

The other group was never asked to prove their claim. And I’m guessing it was because they were on shaky grounds.  So...okay, we just took it for granted that we needed to: one, prove that there RinSan's OTP was false news, and two, prove that the WonSan’s OTP is true. And we already accomplished both of these.

I said it was illogical to assume that two people are lovers simply because they are seen leaving together. Faulty correlation.

Furthermore, I pointed out there can’t be an OTP when the two parties declined to be an OTP.  The facts remain that

1. San never professed any affection for Rin.
2. Rin himself apologized for stealing Won’s girl and took back his promise to be with her.

So how are they an OTP? Hmmm?

No means no. (And that’s not only the standard for assault cases, okay? It goes for fictional relationships, too.)

The crying scene wasn’t a love declaration. It was a letting go. A release. Rin was apologizing for his mistakes and she cried for him because he went through a lot for her. As her father once said, she had a tender heart.

Wn6rrj6.jpg

But more importantly, San was also crying for herself because of her looming separation from Won. She was crying on Rin’s shoulder like she’d done many times before. And since I know some people LURKING here lol are confused about what constitutes a hug, I’ll use visual aids.

This is not a hug.

Spoiler

Look, ma! No arms.  lol.  Friendzoned!!!

This is a hug.

Spoiler

With arms. Note: she was hugging him!

UJ7obkX.jpg

Let’s backtrack here and put things in context.

Outside the hut, Rin and Won talked about the plan to save the nation. Rin was going to take the fall and be the rebel leader – which he was in fact. He became the de facto rebel leader when he went along with SongIn’s plan. Then, Won would arrange it so that Rin would have a fake death – as usual it’s Won salvaging the situation.

Then Won commanded Rin to take care of his -- meaning Won's --woman.  "Her clothing is thin. Stay beside her."

Note: Won was always the one ordering Rin to do things on his place when he couldn’t do it himself. Remember: Won ordered Rin to lay down beside San because she was freezing. He asked Rin, man-to-man, to escort San to the maypole dance. Then, he allowed Rin to bring home San after her father’s death so he could investigated the murder.

Now, this time, Won had two jobs for Rin to do. First, he wanted Rin to get his royal seal from San (why Rin? I’ll tell you in a bit). Second, he wanted Rin to settle his issue with San privately. This last task is important because it was CLOSURE that Rin deserved. In telling him to go inside the hut, Won was permitting Rin to talk with San one-on-one because he trusted Rin again. He believed Rin’s words when Rin apologized to him.

People are forgetting here that Rin, too, was an honorable man. He had already admitted:

--to Won, in that letter of his, that he committed a SIN for trying to steal Won's woman, and
--to his own father that he was guilty of lust and greed for Won’s woman. His father had reminded him that while Rin was accusing Jeon of lust and greed, he himself was guilty of the same thing.

(I've posted about this. I'll edit and add them here.)  Here's the relevant post.

If people believe in the WonRin brotherhood, then they would have to see that Rin wasn't going to backstab his friend AGAIN and covet his best friend's girl AGAIN.

To continue:

Rin: I’m sorry
San: For what? (Lol. Really. San and Rin aren't on same wavelengths. San could read Won’s thoughts, and vice versa, even before he verbalized them.)
Rin: I had told you I would follow you wherever. That I will stay with you. I'm afraid I won't be able to keep that promise.

**There! That was his withdrawal. He was rescinding his promise because he now knew his place and what he had to do in the future. He was NOT going to overstep his boundaries again. To begin with, his outburst to "follow her wherever" had been very presumptuous of him. San herself was surprised when he yelled it out of the blue when both he and San were attacked by the Snake Man and his men.

**Also, didn’t people realize the incongruity there? If they were going to travel together as couples in the end, as the RinSaners claim, then why on earth was HE apologizing for not being able to keep his promise to follow her everywhere? He had already known of the plan to fake his death and to disappear. So, if he “disappeared,” what was stopping him from following San, travelling with her, and keeping his promise? His disappearance would have been the perfect excuse to be with San FREELY and INCOGNITO. So why was he rescinding his promise then? Lol. Do you get the logic?

Rin: Because you are a brave, bright person --
San: But I'm just pretending to be.
Rin: I won’t worry too much.
San: People don't know me that very well.

**Here, San was bemoaning that "people" MEANING Won were quick to ASSUME or TAKE FOR GRANTED that she was fine, brave and bright. You see, Won was avoiding talking about the pending separation and SHE wasn't asked directly if she was okay being separated. Both she and Won were avoiding the topic. Remember Won’s voiceover? From @ZarraJae's subs:

We knew if each other was lying or telling the truth. That's how close we were. We knew the truth, but we pretended not to know. You also knew that I was just pretending. That summer, we were practicing for our farewell. It was as if we will never be apart, and as if we never knew we could be apart.

Like Won, she did NOT like the looming separation but they had not choice. So she was pretending, like Won, that everything was fine for her. And now, she knew that Rin had come to ask for the seal. Won didn't want to get the seal from HER in person. He was avoiding her so he sent Rin instead into the hut to get it for him. And she KNEW what Won was doing.

Rin: Do you have the Goryeo King's seal now? (She looks at him.) Please give it to me.
Rin: Lady San
San: I remember. The first time you addressed me like that. It has been too long since someone called me like that, so I was surprised.
Rin: Before I start calling you like that, a long time before that...When I was 12 years old, I was hiding at your house. You were crying that night. You were crying and lighting up those lotus lanterns for the deceased. Ever since then, I was in love with you. I just wanted...it was my greed to try to make you mine. I apologize for that. I will let you go now. So, please don't look back.

Let me post the Viki sub here for emphasis:

Rin: Momentarily, I desired to make you mine. That was also WRONG of me.

**This was Rin saying sorry for DESIRING and being GREEDY for another man’s woman. He was apologizing that, in his temporary INSANITY, he had tried to separate Won and San by cutting San’s thread with Won (i.e., that kiss assault on the bridge). And pay attention now: San did NOT CONTRADICT him. She was agreeing that his attempt to cut the string was wrong.

Rin: Since I'm leaving now, please don't look back.

**This was Rin telling her that he reconciled with the fact that there was no future for them. He wasn’t going to covet Won’s woman. Now and forever. Don’t look back means it was over. He’d turn the page on HIS DELUSION. And pay attention again: She didn't say kajima! (Don’t go) or Hajima (No).

She only cried on his shoulder. Like, she had done so many times before: after her escape from Jeon, after her father's death. She regarded him as a shoulder to cry on. Nothing more.

And look at Rin’s final action here: he raised his hand to touch her head, he stopped and he pulled back his hand.

1x0ueo.gif

THAT, my friend, is the focal point of this whole hut conversation. THE HAND!!! (lol. Important body part.) Rin was withdrawing. He was ending his pursuit of Won’s woman.

Seriously. If San felt anything more than friendship for him, this moment was the perfect opportunity for her to stop him from leaving her with a love declaration, too. She was emotionally weak and susceptible to love confessions. But she never said anything to him. She was silent. The fact is, in all those times when she was emotionally fragile and ALONE, she never opened up to Rin about her feelings for him.

But she did for Won. She avowed that Won was the man who opened her heart. Not Rin. That’s the plain and inconvenient truth. :)

@deandraluv

:D I'm still in Episode 4, going on Episode 5.

There’s proof here that San does not view Rin romantically.  She doesn’t remember his name.

She wants to meet with Rin in order to catch SnakeMan. But she says to do so, she’ll have to meet with the “other guy” and look at her face when she says that. The thought of meeting Won again is bothersome to her. lol.

1x1qw5.gif

The instant she meets Won again, they start bickering. This is a actually good sign actually because it means he’s gotten under her skin. She isn’t indifferent or immune to his charms. He is definitely flirting with her, and she’s responding to him. Later in Episode 19, we’ll get confirmation that San IS opening up her heart to Won during these moments. She’s used to keeping people at arm’s length but Won is the only one who breaks through her barriers.

1x1rci.gif

And notice that? Won calls Rin by name. In this Episode 4, Won identifies Rin as “So In” three times. And it’s not by accident; it was written in the script.

If San has a crush on Rin at this time, she’ll be sure to remember his name -- just like Rin recalled her name from the Teacher and Won racked his brain trying to remember hers in Episode 3. But despite being made aware of Rin’s name in three different occasions, the name fails to make an impression on her. She isn’t paying attention to his name. Which is odd behavior for a girl supposedly “in like” with him, as others are claiming.

First time:

Spoiler

O0mNKnY.jpg

Second time:

Spoiler

F9UPlmr.jpg

That one is funny because San looked at Rin with disgust when she heard that he bungled up and let the prisoners escape. Lol. I want to think of this as San’s prescience: she knows like we do how Rin bungles things up.

Spoiler

9VUDQWq.jpg

And third time:

Spoiler

xQNQVmE.jpg

She is a top student of Teacher Lee, isn't she? <_<

But then why doesn’t she remember Won’s name?

Won’s name is only mentioned once in passing by Dan. No one calls him “Hancheon” because he’s typically addressed as “Your Highness’ and his identity is secret. Furthermore, San thinks of him as a pesky, annoying, and bothersome “that person” or “that other one”.

She is deliberately BLOCKING him out of her mind because he is an intrusion in her life. She CALLS him a distraction.

Sometime ago, I spoke about the rock scene between San and Won.  How San was looking at Won and wondering why he is not offering her to be a girlfriend ?

But looking at these pics makes me wonder if the father also had a clue that San was in love with Won ;  He is not pure blood, so a weed  -  They are also grass, but how pitiful that they are treated with neglect?  Is he referring to how Won was treated by the people and the court and many wanted to remove him because they treated him as a weed.

The second part - says that San resembles her mother and has a tender heart and too much affection.  Was the father witnessing a caressing moment between San and Won?  Won touching San's hair that had flown away and tucking it back?

I would not be surprised if he already knew and he was just setting up the marriage between Rin and San for her to blow up and confess who she likes?

OR he wanted the Queen to intervene and set it up between San and Won?

Any thoughts?

Omg this!! I picked this up too, my thought exactly! And I also now know the reason for Rin and San marriage, everything orchestrated by song in! I was having a super aha moment when I found that out. Will write more in details later on.

I should stop lurking here until i finish, 2 more eps to go. Everyone thoughts and analysis got my brain going crazily! In a good way of course. ^^

Again, I'm not ignoring others post, I will get back to it once I'm done with the drama and get better and clearer picture of everything :)

How good is this drama! I dunno how long it's gonna take for me to move on to the next one. I'll prolly be depressed for a while hahaha

Another one for @deandraluv. lol. The rate I'm going, I'll reach Episode 20 by November.

From Episode 3.

There’s this scene in Episode 3 which I found noteworthy. As early as Episode 3, Won ENTRUSTED San to his friend Rin because he trusted him as a loyal friend. Won ordered Rin to look for San and to ensure that San couldn't see Won but that Won could see her.  Rin smiled here at this weird version of Hide-and-seek. (I wonder now if this was what Won envisioned in Episode 20 when San and Rin went on "exile." San couldn't SEE him, but Won could easily find her because he knew her location.)

Spoiler

s7ACa7v.jpg

Anyway...

Fastforward to Episode 6.

Won asked for Rin's assistance in bringing San to the maypole dance. He wanted to see San again before she left for Mt. Doota. His reasoning for trusting Rin with San: Their longtime friendship.

Won: You’ve always kept the line between right and wrong. All these years, even though we have been friends for many years, you have never sat down unless I gave you permission.
Rin: Why are you saying this all of a sudden?
Won: That is why I can ask YOU. To escort the girl I have in my heart to this festival. From one man to another. Please bring her here tomorrow.

Ir2rOGn.jpg

Rin: You know as well as I do that she is going to return to the mountains tomorrow.
Won: That’s why I’m ordering it. Bring her here. Whatever you have to do, just do it. Also, change her out of those men’s clothes and have her wear something that is fit for a banquet. You know, something that looks a bit feminine. It’s an order, I tell you. A royal order from the crown prince.

The only problem here was Rin began slowly to waver in his loyalties here. Won was right: the dance was the beginning of Rin's lies.

When Rin presented the CP's invitation to San, he gave San an “out” if she didn’t want to go to the ball. Won had commanded him to bring her to the masquerade but he was SUBVERTING Won’s command by giving San the OPTION to leave.

He told her, “If you must leave, I’ll tell him that. That you couldn’t make it because you had to leave in a hurry. You can do that.”

Spoiler

EbbAzFh.jpg

We could see that Rin was already interfering in WonSan's romance. Lol. Was he already trying to cut the red thread even back then?!! Hmm....

When we think about this, both Won and San wanted to see each other at the dance. Won wanted her dressed up in pretty clothes, for a change, so she could attend the dance like a normal girl. Behind-the-scenes, he prepared a mask embroidered with a bird, and a pretty hairpin with a bird. I could imagine him being excited.

Meanwhile, San, too, wanted to create happy memories at the dance because it was going to be her “last time for everything, laughing, running…everything” with Won. When Rin tried dissuade from getting married to Jeon, all she could focused on was the dance. She told him she just wanted to learn how to dance for one night so all the miserable years of marriage to Jeon would become bearable.

It's uncanny how they were on the same wavelength even back then. Despite their bickering and posturing, deep-down inside, they both enjoyed each other's company that they were willing to risk danger (for Won if his mother saw San) and unhappiness (for San because of her marriage) to be with each other for ONE night.

It was no wonder that after the dance all she could think about and TALK ABOUT was Won. She had to be reminded by Rin that he too was there. (snort!)

Oh! I didn't get that! Thanks. I wondered what the metaphor behind the weeds.

Weed = any undesirable wild plant growing where it shouldn't be growing = Won = an unwanted mixed-breed

This reminds me of one of my favorite acting moments seconds with Siwan.

This one:

14.gif

He was asking the eunuch. “Who else? He was not acting alone. Who else?” When Siwan slightly shook his head and spat out the second “Who else?” I remember telling myself, “Wow! He's good!” That small movement made his character's anger palpable. And what was scary about it was Won was exercising control at that time. Could you imagine if he had unleashed his rage? lol.

Thanks for the gif, @mslee.

Will you please make me one with this scene, too? Episode 12. Thanks!  :) Rin asked San if there was a reason she was returning to Mt. Doota, and whether she was treated well at the Minister’s house. She replied that THAT could be one reason (her treatment), and she sipped tea while looking outside at Won.

I think the Father suspected something was going on between San and Won, but because of that #$%@ BiYeon, he was persuaded that San's mystery guy couldn't be Won. But really! For a guy to drop by out of nowhere and pay his respects (bowing!) to a deceased mother of the girl, I would definitely suspect that they were romantically involved. And I'm not even Asian.

But I'm not so sure that the Father was setting up Rin and San in order to provoke San to admit that she liked Won. The Father wasn't the type to manipulate San or to get involved in such duplicity or subterfuge.  Especially when there was a chance it could backfire on him if San had a different idea. He simply wanted San settled down before he died. Had he received the right information on Won, I'm sure he would have chosen Won because Won's family wasn't involved in the murder of his wife and servants.

For @Kissy13 and @seogwangnim

Focus on Siwan begins at 10:59. I already pre-set it to start at 10:59 but just in case...

Since baduk is stuck in my head, I can't imagine the future King of Goryeo playing Rubik's cube. I like what the interviewer said, "A man who concentrates looks charming."

Then I remembered how he did this:

I know what you're saying about how hard it is to move if you like a drama so much. I'm currently watching variety shows for entertainment instead of drama...although WYWS looks interesting. Hahaha. I just don't want to encounter moderator OVERREACH and DRAMA again so I'm avoiding that drama thread. Maybe if there's a SHIPPERS thread, I'll post there. The mods here seem to be more laid-back.

DEFINITELY A VIRGIN FOR 7 MONTHS:joy:

@packmule3 oh I love Won..I've shouting it out on my post on MT that Won is the perfect kdrama character that I have encounter so far and about crushing on the actor who played it..hmmmmm am I that obvious LOL..I found him interesting..I have soft spot for the actor/actress who are so brilliant and natural on their acting skills...

@leedale9198 Welcome!so glad that you finally found a perfect place to discuss your WonSan feels..and I guarantee you that the people on this thread discuss the REAL thing about TKL  based on the script.. and it is a big ? for me also why they call our analysis a FANFICTION..

When I read the word FANFICTION..

giphy.gif

Why it's Won and San and not the other way around based on the ending Scene...

1. Won and San is the main OTP based on the script and promotion

2. We didn't get to see that Rin and San LIVE together but they just LEAVE together

3. San and Won confess their love for one another

4. Rin confess his feeling..San JUST CRY WHILE LEANING ON HIS SHOULDER..and it's not that coz he can't keep his promise to her..but it's the separation between the three of them that breaks her heart

5. Meaningful conversation happened to San and Won..when San and Rin are having a conversation..95% of the topic is about Won

6.San is the falcon and we knew that the FALCON RETURN TO IT'S OWNER on Episode 1..and she did based on Won voice over in episode 1 & episode 20...

"This is the story of me who came to LOVE YOU more than myself"

"That summer we were practicing our farewell. To a friend who I never separated from and TO YOU WHOM I THOUGHT I WOULD NEVER BE SEPARATED WITH" and to me..."

When he said that lines..his face is so calm and he smiled genuinely while looking to San

FINAL CONCLUSION: He is telling this story to San

Amen, sister! @Kissy13! Your post said it all.

Are there more viewers who like Rin to Won?! Really? Lol. Are they I-fans or K-fans? Wow. I'd worry about them.

I like what you said that Rin and San weren't LIVING together just because they were LEAVING together. They still don't get it, do they? Why the heck was Rin apologizing for not being able to keep his promise when he knew that after his fake death, they'd be free to live together anyway?

As for San always thinking of Won even when she was with Rin, there's this other scene in Episode 20 when she was recuperating in Rin's family house. Rin asked her what she was thinking and she replied, "The leader of the anti-Yuan group. Saving the king... Goryeo. Yuan. The Crown Prince."

Lol! She was telling HIM that HE should go sacrifice himself for Won. Help Won, even if it meant death for him.

She now had become Won's Queen! Remember how his mother, the Queen, always commanded Rin to take the fall for Won? And remember how Won's mother asked her to look after Won because there were so many people out to get her son? Well, now, San was doing it! She was telling Rin what he needed to do in order to help Won. She was "suggesting" his course of action. There's much power in suggestions and expectations in changing how Rin would behave and act in order for San to get what she truly wanted: Won's happiness.

This also reminds me of that time when Rin was left alone with San to attend to her head wound. Dan the sister was setting them up to have a romantic interlude.  And Rin looked ready to reveal his feelings for San. But lol all San could think about then TOO was that Won was in enormous danger and that Rin had to go to his friend's aid.

It's repetition of their conversation after the dance. That time too San was going on and on about Won and Won would be affected if he found out that she was marrying Jeon.

And it's replayed again in the cave scene in Episode 18. Rin was planning of LEAVING with her to faraway places but San only thought he was going with her up to the boat AND NO FURTHER. The reason she could NOT contemplate having him by her side was because she LOVED Won. She had a red thread connecting her to Won already.

And remember this:

tumblr_ow75g22cvC1qkgj9mo2_r1_400.gif

she was signalling to Rin and pleading with him NOT to hurt Won. She'd rather that Rin be hurt than Rin injure Won. She knew that Rin was a better swordsman than Won so she was telling him NO, don't do it.

San didn't know it but she was Rin's biggest mood spoiler or cockblock.

This was the scene where So Hwa stood up and went towards the window where she could see Han Cheon talking outside with his shadow guard.. @packmule3

Rin knew she is firm in her resolve to go back to Mt. Doota. San was telling him about ...

Spoiler

I hope im right in this coz haven't watched it again..

She wants to leave so Won would not feel so sad? Like she knew he likes her so maybe cutting their feelings early so as not to hurt deeply?

Rin somehow realized how she feels that's why he said this..

Maybe throwing Han Cheon' s name would make her change her mind...

I think he acknowledged who and what Han Cheon truly is to So Hwa.
