i know right.... the BBJX experience make me scared watching this drama but can't resist it.. also in BBJX 4th don't love RX like WS love HS... i mean WS is more open and straight about his feeling even the king know about it so IF the writer decide to stab my heart again with the ending it will be more devastating than BBJX... 

so yeah i just want to enjoy their love story and prepared boxes of tissue later....

Going thru this thread sure helps a lot to unleash my addiction to this drama. My head keeps making assumptions on how the story may unfold.

 

From many sources and preview, apparently King will tell So (and other princes) to stay away from Soo. When he returns, he will ask Soo to marry him. Is she wearing the hair pin to give him the "yes" ? Awww, that would be too sweet. I can't wait to see Wang So's reaction when he finds her wearing it. My imagination goes like this : He will be in awe seeing her looking so gorgeous in blue and when he sees the hair pin on her hair, he will go speechless 

This must be when HS waiting for WS to meet her. She must be feeling so antsy, but gleeful at the same time. And when he finally comes, she will send him a small, reassured smile that her man is here.

its like 4th said to RX whether he is emperor or not he always 4th prince to RX but its just not enough for RX broken heart.. so in here we can see their feeling to each other is really deep but the circumstances do not allow them to be together cause they just hurting each other cause RX hate the emperor but love 4th..

 

IMO, I also believe he will change due to the throne and he will be over possession and obsession toward Su like 4th prince toward RX, they will kill whoever that they think it is "harmful"

RX leave 4th prince also cause of her sickness, she had only few years left, which 4th prince didnt know about that, but now, if Su will to leave the palace, who will be the final trigger for So to let go, in C version, is 8th prince trigger the ultimate jealousy of 4th prince, will So let Su leave the palace like 4th prince did?

Let's brace our heart and focus on the journey of their love story instead of the ending...it will definitely be a beautiful journey..with...bittersweet ending....

I really empathize with wook as I think he is more of a "real" person we will find in daily lives.   

I love So very much, but to me he is an ideal type that is rare to find. Having been unloved as a child, by normal trajectory, he would become a rather twisted grown-up. No child can grow up properly without love and care. The adult they grow into will have very twisted world views.    

 I wonder what stops Wook from going out into the rain to at least hug Soo or even go talk to the king about it. What fears lie in him so greatly that he feels so trap. I feel Soo's despair but I feel sorry for Wook too. To be brought up to think that you can't go for your dreams, it's one of the most terrible things that can happened to anyone.

But of course I understand it is necessary to contrast the two characters greatly so that the plot can move forward. The writer swept away any doubt as to who should Soo choose.  

 

Not necessarily. I think there is a large enough range of experiences to show that some people react to their environment very differently. I have a friend who came from an extremely dysfunctional background... and although she has to go for regular counselling, she's one of the most big-hearted people I know precisely because she's naturally giving but because she's been badly treated. Clearly unless there's early intervention, many abused children do grow up to be abusers. But I don't think people are irredeemable and miracles do happen.

Don't forget too that So was pretty twisted when we saw him in the early episodes (killing for his mother's sake, threatening to kill So etc) so he's not exactly Mr Perfect either and he's very rough around the edges because he's not exactly a sweet talker. He still doesn't trust people much but because he has found someone he wants to protect, he's gone all out. It's as if someone (Su in this case) has turned the lights on in his head and now he wants to be the kind of man that she needs him to be. 

We've been on a journey with him when he's been at his lowest and yet we've also seen him rise and gain some acknowledgement from his family. That's perhaps the main reason why some of us have been right there with him from the beginning. He was the underdog, probably still is.

What we also  appreciate about So is that he's learning and growing. He's still making mistakes along the way ("forced" kiss) but he's turning into someone that can be relied on. At the end of the day that's what most women are looking for -- someone reliable, someone they can trust, someone that isn't going to bail on them at the first sign of trouble. 

See, the difference between you and I is that I don't think Uk has had such a terrible life.  Despite his family falling from grace due to Queen Yu's machinations, Uk was a man very much loved. His mother at least loved him, she gave him the freedom to do what he wanted: "Have I ever opposed anything that you've ever wanted to do?". He was very lucky that his arranged marriage worked so well for him and his wife, Lady Hae was such a devoted companion to him and she was even willing to put up with him flirting with another woman right under her eyes. Despite how he sees his own life and position in the court, he was respected and liked by all his brothers. Even the smug Earring Yo.

And when his sister was screaming at him after he announced to his he wanted to marry Su, he told her, "There are other ways that we can use to protect ourselves." Well, he obviously gave that some thought.

In the end he gave into his ambition to ascend the throne because as  we saw, his sister appealed to his greed not to his familial instincts. Giving up Su for his family is a side issue not the main one. As someone in DB commented, he's basically the same as #8 in BBJX, it's just that how he gets there is a little different.

And really, he didn't need to turn away from Su in the rain scene but he was afraid of incurring the king's wrath. Even his younger brothers and the Crown Prince stood and knelt in solidarity with Su even if it was just symbolic. But he couldn't even do that.

He did make choices all along the way... each one leading to another, to another... So while he was trapped by his own ambition, even that was his own choice.

I want to add that I don't think there's anything wrong for any man (or woman) to have ambitions although I personally object to anyone killing people to achieve them . But this is Goryeo and people did kill to achieve their ambitions... even when they were supposedly family.

Totally agree. It was the regret in BBJX that caused so much heartache. That was cruel to the people watching it. But knowing 4th Prince and Ruoxi married each other in real life - helped ease the pain...just a little.

And if WS stays consistent in his feelings for HS, the result of them being apart at the end will devastate many of us here. Comments on DB may hit 2000 for that episode. This director is really good at gut wrenching death / parting scenes.

I really hope to see WW transition to a darker character... and not just turn "lukewarm" or something in the middle.  We can already see signs here and there, so I hope the writer doesn't hold back and goes all the way to the other end of the spectrum with is character.

Here's some predictions floating in my mind....

1. During HS's watermaid period, I think she'll try to stay low key after what happened to Lady Oh.... but I think WS will eventually melt her heart during this period.   Maybe at this point WW doesn't worry too much about WS/HS's future because the current king would never agree to the marriage between a prince and a watermaid.

2.  Then, after the CP becomes king, maybe he will elevate her status back to a noble again because she helped him.  (That's why we see her in pictures with new noble clothes like YH).... and maybe he even grants WS and HS's marriage.  I can see WW going into panic mode here , so he conspires with WY to get rid of the CP and have WY annul WS/HS's wedding?

3. When WY is in the throne... I'm wondering what might happen though.... You know I found this picture online.  It looks like a BTS image, but does anyone know where it is from in the storyline? Everything in this thread moves so fast, so I don't know if I missed it.

WS and the 13th prince look like they are wearing pretty common clothes.  Do you think they get chased out of the palace when WY becomes king?  Maybe Woo Hee helps them escape in some way since she becomes acquainted with the 13th prince and has some connections as a Baekje Princess (maybe that's her purpose in the story - since everyone seems to be wondering )?  Then they make a comeback?  I remember seeing a scene in the preview with WS and BA in armor on horses ready to fight.

@40somethingahjumma I love your writing, in fact I've enjoyed many of your posts here. They give another perspective to enjoy this drama. I love when a drama also sets as mind-opener to something new, whether it's a new knowledge or a new perspective to an issue.

Eps 11 is all about how women's strength can really go beyond, in both good and evil ways. the queens, YH, Lady Oh, and even Soo, they show incredible strength in various forms. Unlike the princes, despite the opportunities already presented to them on silver platter, the women must fight really hard and often in disguise to get what they desire. And the harsh fact that many modern women still continue to face the same situation, saddens me. 

Having said that, that's why Wook's character impresses me less and less because from the start he seems like a guy who doesn't know how to fight for what he wants, he says one thing and act differently. I'm so glad Soo finally sees his true self. No matter what reasons he may give to Soo later (urghh, I hate it that he will sweet-talk her once again) I hope Soo will end things right away, once and for all.

I also hope it will be a different ending as well, I cant imagine Soo die without So by her side, and also, having So to send Soo away like what 4th prince did...

I think the writer needs to be commended for creating such a provocative drama! All the character nuances and the delving into the complexities of human emotions, I haven't watched a drama this intricately written in years. I'm especially intrigued by the concept of desires of the mind, ambitions and craving of power, Vs desires of the heart, love and friendships. 

And even the conceptualized 'soulmates' has been weaved into the drama with Hae soo and So. Is this writers a genius or just fortunate that some many components of the story fit? XD

It's going to get very interesting because things are going to speed up since there will be atleast 6 years covered in 11 episodes and definitely a lot happening in the 6 years. It really didn't feel like I was watching a historical drama until now but now suddenly I feel that the rest of the series is going to feel more like a historical drama. I don't know if this is because the we're about to hit the peak of royal politics and all or just because I've started taking a deeper interest in the history...

I really hope that because of the significant events coming up the writers don't cut short Wang So and Hae Soo scenes but I don't think I have to worry about that.... i really hope i don't...

I totally love his dorkiness and his batman cape thingy...whenever the BTS is out, his real life cuteness always make me burst out laughing in office...

somehow by releasing the BTS and PD note on the separate day making us have something to look forward...but never once, I want weekend to be over soon, cause of this show..I want Monday to come faster,,,
