In episode 1, when Boo Jung leaves the house to go to her father's place, Jeong Su arranges the shoes that are left at that area where people take of their shoes. It is very telling about the kind of relationship they have.

I learned from my Secret Love Affair days that Koreans will arrange the shoes facing the door to make it easy for the guest to leave the house, kinda like preparation. However, in that drama, the male lead arranges the female lead's shoes to face inward, into the house, as an indicator that she is staying and going nowhere, literally and metaphorically.

In Lost, Jeong Su arranges the shoes, but I noticed that his mother's shoes are also facing inward. It's like his mother is part of that home and marriage, when her shoes should be facing the door in preparation for her to leave. It is also telling that his shoes are placed between his wife's and his mother's. He's trapped between the two women in his life, much like that entire scene was about him managing the argument between them.

As Boo Jung leaves, MIL's shoes are on our right, and Jeong Su's shoes behind her...

After Jeong Su arranges the shoes.... this is where I noticed the state of their marriage...

Mummy is part and parcel of that marriage, the invasive third wheel.

Human Disqualification: Episode 4

by quirkycase

HD04-00105.jpg

Our escort attempts to put personal feelings aside as he contemplates the job offer, but that proves difficult when he keeps running into his new ex-writer friend. A kind gesture and word from her bring him comfort on a challenging day, deepening the pull between the two of them. But they’re not the only ones deepening connections. A certain sighing husband struggles to forget his determined ex and starts lowering his defenses.

EPISODE 4: “Person friend”

Ddak-yi looks through the search history on the computer Kang-jae was using and sees Bu-jung’s name. He feels it’s familiar but can’t remember why. Min-jung pops up behind him and asks what’s going on. When Ddak-yi is evasive, she says close friends shouldn’t keep secrets.

Min-jung overheard Kang-jae’s comment about something having nothing to do with him and supposes he’ll be taking that job. In his building’s elevator, Kang-jae sighs as he again looks at Bu-jung’s photo on his phone.

He steps out of the elevator and comes face-to-face with Bu-jung. Startled, Kang-jae returns her bow and tries to hurry away, but Chang-sook calls out to him. Bu-jung looks like she wants to crawl under a table when her dad goes up to Kang-jae and introduces himself and Bu-jung.

Kang-jae blinks in surprise when Chang-sook asks, “Do you want a piece of cake?” Ha. Bu-jung grows even more mortified when her father tells Kang-jae to wait here with Bu-jung and proudly shows off the cake she got as a reward.

Once he’s gone, Bu-jung tells Kang-jae he can go; her father’s acting like this for no reason. Kang-jae thinks Chang-sook seems to have his own reason and congratulates her on whatever earned her a cake. Bu-jung is silent and awkward as usual.

Kang-jae notes that they should exchange numbers now that they’ve met again. He promises not to text her a lot and holds out his phone. Bu-jung hesitates before taking it and entering her info. He calls her so she’ll have his number too.

Chang-sook comes running back with a slice of cake for Kang-jae to take home with him. How cute. Inside his apartment, Kang-jae stands in the doorway and stares at the cake until his motion sensor lights go out.

Outside, Bu-jung wonders why her dad gave Kang-jae the piece of cake. Chang-sook says he got angry and quips they’ll see if Kang-jae ignores them now that he gave him cake. PFFT. He only gave him a small piece since he doesn’t like him. Oh my gosh.

Bu-jung jokes that she must’ve gotten her mean streak from her dad. Rather than denying she’s mean, Chang-sook just says they’re both not that bad. And now Kang-jae won’t ignore her anymore. Bu-jung asks what her father plans to give Kang-jae next if he ignores her. Ha.

WHOA!! This is mind-blowing! Never noticed that when I watched it, and it was strange to me that they even inserted that scene. Now it all makes sense. Great insight!

Hahaha. Let's say YES.

He is pretty passive and spends all of this time reacting to the people around him. The one taste of "healthy 9" aspects is how he tries to talk to his mom about BJ in Episode 4 and make peace between them. But without stopping her from being so intrusive, he's not going to be effective.

JTBC’s “Lost” has shared an intriguing sneak peek of its upcoming episode!

The drama is about the stories of average people who realize they haven’t become anything throughout their lives and try their best to see the spotlight. Jeon Do Yeon stars as Boo Jung, a ghostwriter in her 40s who feels lost and as if she hasn’t been able to amount to anything. Ryu Jun Yeol stars as Kang Jae, a man who runs a service where employees act out whatever roles clients request.

Spoilers

Previously on “Lost,” Boo Jung and Kang Jae exchanged contact information with each other. Boo Jung mustered up the courage to message him, but Kang Jae didn’t reply. She fatefully crossed paths with him at a wedding she attended with her husband Jung Soo (Park Byung Eun) and went after him, heralding an unusual encounter between the two.

The newly released stills feature Boo Jung, Kang Jae, and Jung Soo. Boo Jung and Kang Jae exit the wedding hall and face each other outside. However, they immediately hide when they hear Jung Soo coming, and the atmosphere is thick with awkwardness.

In episode 5, Kang Jae will visit Jung Woo’s (Na Hyun Woo’s) goshiwon (an economical type of housing commonly leased by students preparing for an important exam) and find unexpected traces of the truth that makes him change his heart.

The producers of “Lost” shared, “[Boo Jung will reunite with] Kang Jae, who gives off a different vibe than before. There will be changes in Boo Jung, who unexpectedly learns about Kang Jae, and Jung Soo. Starting from episode 5, the story will take a new turn as hidden secrets and truths are revealed. Please pay attention to their changes.”

JTBC’s “Lost” has revealed new stills ahead of the next episode!

Spoilers

In the previous episode, Kang Jae became aware of an unusual connection between Boo Jung and the deceased Jung Woo (Na Hyun Woo). After visiting the goshiwon (an economical type of housing commonly leased by students preparing for an important exam) where his late friend had resided, he found traces of a woman named Nam Hee Sun and also grew distressed after checking messages that had been sent by Boo Jung. Hiding his real identity, Kang Jae sent messages pretending to be Jung Woo, leading viewers to wonder about the complicated relationship between the pair.

New stills reveal Boo Jung preparing for a special outing. She sits at her vanity table, appearing somewhat awkward as she applies, erases, and re-applies makeup products that had previously been sitting on the counter collecting dust.

Wait they FL knew the ML when he was younger?.

Are you talking about when he was texting her as cafe_hallelujah and she was cafe_LBJ? In that case he was in his friend Jung Woo's room and he had picked up Jung Woo's phone (shown by the little boy on the phone's home screen). Or were you thinking of another scene?

So Jung Woo was cafe_hallelujah and posted dirt on author/actress A Ran and her marriage? Before he committed suicide, JW must have post-dated the post to come out now. Boo Jung seems to trust cafe_hallelujah to a point. Maybe JW was filling the job that A Ran's manager just offered to Kang Jae -- to ruin BJ. And the more JW dug into BJ's life and "befriended" her as part of the job, the more he realized how skanky A Ran and her husband were.

What's with the bloody knee as the profile pic for cafe_LBJ though?!

The sad details that came out about JW were that he lived in a tiny room and had had a child who was sick. Is that boy still alive? What about the boy's mom? Is that the girl that he drowned with? And of course we remember that he had borrowed a lot of money from KJ.

It's nice to see that Kang Jae, even if Jung Woo hadn't been in touch with him before he died and still owed him money, still cared a lot about JW.

In the opening, when Kang Jae is happily singing karaoke and then emojiing a customer:

spacer.png

It struck me how much he has to put on an act - he has to muster up cheerfulness and energy for the outside world. When he's with Just and the idol girl, he allows his tiredness to come through and he's more withdrawn and stoic. However, when he's with BJ, something about her brings out his protective and friendly side (and his talkative side!).

In contrast, BJ just always seems sorrowful and low - except for when she's with her dad. With her dad, she wants to reassure him that she's doing OK so she musters up energy to be with him. And she loves being with him, we can tell, which is great. But with everyone else, she is not putting on an act; she really is melancholy and hates her job, A Ran, her marriage, and her mother-in-law. With Kang Jae, though, she can relax a bit.

It will be nice, over the course of the drama, to see both KJ and BJ become more and more like their true selves.

Also, BJ and her husband only moved out of his mom's place a year ago!! No wonder BJ is so uncomfortable with both of them. If the MIL is bad now, she must have been even more domineering when BJ was under her roof. And now that BJ and Jung Soo are living on their own, they're so stiff and uncomfortable with each other. No way BJ is going to feed Jung Soo the way the MIL still does!

In today's episode, the huge framed photo of the MIL, BJ, and Jung Soo was shown in the shadows of the MIL's apartment. Theirs is such a lonely family. As Jung Soo is an only child, there are no other adult children to keep the MIL company, nor are there any grandchildren. And while JS gets along with his mom, BJ doesn't. It's all fraught, and kind of heartbreaking that all three of them don't get more support from each other.

Dear God, Bu Jeong's hubs just can't shut up can he!? He just rambles on and on, and they complain that we women are gossip mongers really now LoL!?

He also sounded judgmental to Gang Jae's profession geez. The talk on Min Jung's short lived idol dreams seem to derive from the actress's own experience eheh. She's a former member of A-Pink.

No not the dementia again LoL. The older gentleman played a dementia character on "Navillera" as well.

So Ah Ran's hubs is cheating on her with a younger woman. Wonder what's the mystery behind Gang Jae's friend Jung Woo & his connections to Bu Jeong?

That was rather sad at the scene in the hospital where people die alone & it was endearing to see that male nurse(?) reassuring him.. I've been through it myself so I know how desolate & miserable the hospital ward can be. It's especially harder for the caregivers, more so than the ones who're ill. People forget that sadly.

Just finished ep. 06. Bu Jeong's mil finds out she's lost her job, wonder how will Jung Soo take to this news?

I don't like how Jung Soo keep asking why Bu Jeong is too sensitive when clearly he says things carelessly?

And Bu Jeong takes that plunge to reach out to Gang Jae. Just's sis is like a comedy skit part of this otherwise bleak drama LoL. Just get drunk over seeing Min Jung hanging out with other guys. Aish these two..

I just finished watching episode 6 and I can truly relate with Bu Jeong, especially what she had written in her letter to her dad... I am liking the pace of this drama.

I'm not good with character names, but isn't Bu Jeong's husband's co-worker at the supermarket the actor who plays the police dude in Hometown Cha Cha Cha?

Yes! There are two overlaps from HCCC and this one: the police man in HCCC who plays the supermarket colleague in HD, and the 3rd halmeoni in HCCC is the awful mother-in-law here in HD.

We learn so much information from each episode!

In Episode 6, much of this new information was centered around Jung Woo:

- cafe hallelujah seemed like a website (?) or a service (?) for people struggling with depression.

- Jung Woo joked to Just that he and LBJ might die together.

- Just told Gang Jae that JW changed his phone number. Gang Jae had found JW's old phone in JW's room.

- JW was looking at the Yuwon fishing spot with interest.

- JW knew LBJ's deepest, darkest hurts, in that he had her suicide note, A Ran's book, and LBJ's draft (proving that she was the real author I suppose). My impression was that LBJ had given these to him knowingly.

- LBJ visited JW's child and the child's mom in the hospital! What!

Lingering questions:

- Was there an important reason Jung Woo changed his phone number?

- Was Yuwon fishing spot the place JW and his girl friend drowned? @africandramalover you've re-watched Episode 1 and made extracts. :) Do you remember if that was the place?

- Did JW and LBJ meet during the period that Gang Jae lost contact with JW?

Also, can we talk about this tangerine for a moment?

LBJ gave GJ a tangerine in the backseat of the car, in another tentative, awkward interaction. We see later that he's placed it on his coffee table. The rest of his room is so dark - the furnishings and the lighting - but the tangerine, set apart on a corner of the table, provides the only color in his room:

spacer.png

LBJ has requested booking GJ for this evening. GJ suggests a time and a possible motel, but then seems uncertain about it all:

spacer.png

When she texts back, the camera pans to the tangerine, GJ's phone, and JW's phone!

spacer.png

GJ finalizes the plan, then keeps thinking.

Spoiler

spacer.png

Lee Boo Jung is in his life now...she's alone like the tangerine...there was some kind of weird thing going on between her and Jung Woo....and now Gang Jae is in the middle of it as well...but LBJ is bringing something new and colorful to his world.

Also:

- "Is squatting in the hallway becoming a trend?"

(I seriously cannot get enough of him saying aloud whatever he thinks. More, please!!)
