Ji Jin Hee Shares Thoughts On Remaking U.S. Series + Kang Han Na Talks About Action Scenes In “Designated Survivor: 60 Days”

Ji Jin Hee and Kang Han Na shared their thoughts on their new drama “Designated Survivor: 60 Days” during the press conference held on July 1.

A remake of the popular U.S. series “Designated Survivor,” this tvN drama tells the story of the head of the Ministry of Environment Park Moo Jin (played by Ji Jin Hee) who unexpectedly leads the country for 60 days after a terror attack kills the president and others in the line of succession during the State of the Union Address. Kang Na Na appears as Han Na Kyung, an agent of the National Intelligence Service task force investigating the terrorist attack on the National Assembly.

First off, Jin Ji Hee was asked if he felt any pressure due to the original series, and he honestly replied, “It wouldn’t make sense if I said no. I enjoyed it so much. When I thought about who should take the role if it’s made in Korea, I thought I was perfect for it. I thought it would be great if I could do it.”

Then he said, “I wondered what the difference was from the original version, and I realized the speech was different. We are intertwined in a complicated and subtle way on the Korean Peninsula. The writer wrote it in a very interesting way, so I thought I definitely had to do it. I’m really grateful to the writer.”

Ok. First off,  i am an American.  I have watched our version of the show so I was very excited about the Korean version.  Especially since  Ji Jin-hee

is in it.  I'm still excited but why make lead clueless (my perception). I get being confused and thrown for a loop in the rush of everything, but why martial law without thinking? Just signing.  No formal swearing in? They made him a puppet right off. 

 

In American version,  Tom Kirkman wanted an explanation, he didn't just sign anything without thought.  I hope Ji Jin-hee' character is stronger in second episode and not lead by the nose.

Korean Remake Of Netflix’s “Designated Survivor” Sees Successful Premiere

vN’s newest drama “Designated Survivor: 60 Days” is off to a good start!

The show is a remake of Netflix’s “Designated Survivor” with Keifer Sutherland. Ji Jin Hee stars as the Korean designated survivor counterpart who is thrust into the role of president and must rebuild the Korean government after the Assembly Building goes up in flames, killing the president and high-ranking government officials inside.

According to Nielsen Korea, the premiere of “Designated Survivor: 60 Days” on July 1 recorded 3.4 percent viewership, a 1.1 percent increase from the finale of the previous drama in the time slot, “Abyss.”

Not bad... starts off a bit slow but happy to get a bit of the background to all the madness that ensues.

 

Poor JJH... the man seems to be a complete fish out of water even before he was made president. What was a really interesting touch to his character arc were the shoes. A fascinating (if obvious) way to play out the metaphor of the political outsider. Park Moo Jin was completely out of his element right from the day he was sworn in and the shoes is that constant reminder that he's not comfortable where he is. 

A non-establishment, fact-driven politically unsavvy candidate filling in the country's top job. Talk about throwing the new kid on the block into the deep end of the pool riddled with sharks and then yelling at him to paddle away.

I wondered about that too. I don't know much about SK politics (haven't seen the US version either) but even I thought that was a bit dodgy. To be fair, his head must be spinning and he's reeling from just having heard about the president's demise. Can't imagine he's thinking straight. 

JJH does bewildered like no one else.

 

Mega excited for LJH's entry into the political fray. Wondering if he's going to be an ally or an adversary of PMJ.

this might sound a bit skeptical but trust me i really am not... but do koreans have no regulations, or protocol, or whatsoever to at least protect Park Moo Jin? it feel so weird when he is a minister... not to mention, a designated survivor that eventually going to "replace" the president just in case something bad happen, but he is running by himself in the open public, guard-less (even the guard asking him if he IS the Park Moo Jin). they should've known the person designated to survive for the country. this is something about the president and it's people in the cabinet, it is about the highest people in the country. in the country i'm living, the ministers are considered the "high" people. or at least the original DS "indicating" the same too. they "locked up" the designated survivor candidate and escorted him with bodyguards and armored vehicle to the very place he's saying the oath. i believe it is not about the american or the korean, or the difference on how they escort their president but i believe it is about the country not just the CEO of a company. Seth Wright used to answer the question about why is there a designated survivor with "because something like this (the bombing) is something we can foresee". i hope PMJ character will grow and get even stronger. this kind of drama is the kind that i enjoy as a mere civilian. i couldn't get to see the inside of a country's blue house, how's work and the people working behind those tall walls in suits and fancy cars. i'm thinking fancy and i am imagining things for everything i couldn't get to see in real life. so when i sense something off, i couldn't help but to complain. there is no way someone appointed as a president right off a paper signing when he is going to lead bazillion of people let it be for 60 days, 1 week or 1 day

@triplem in the original US series, there are 2 designated survivor. from that i believe they are intentionally chose the people to "stay behind the line" while the rest are attending the presidential speech. later, people are asking why are there designated survivor and what is the purpose of it and one of them answered that "such thing are already foreseen". they knew that something bad might happen and the designated survivor is chosen whether he/she close or not close with the president as long as he/she's not being in the same room with the president where the accident is already foreseen to happen. in this Korean case, i think they are not defining the "designated survivor" as how it is supposed to be. if he is "designated" to survive he should've been kept safe or anything to keep him away from death. in PMJ's case, he is not kept safe hence he is just the survivor by coincidence.

but... anyway, enough with the title police. it might be just the country that is different or maybe SK does not have something like designated survivor. but really, this is a remake and maybe they ought to still take after it's parent title.

the subs totally help me to understand the first episode more. 

what strike me little odd was that the other party wasn't in the session and then the explosion happened. I don't think that was pure fluke. 

the other party could be responsible for the bombing. But I could be totally wrong.

well I have this one theory that LJH is going to play the bad guy(like in the original) but LJH hasn't shown up yet so this is only speculation on my part.

in the synopsis they said that LJH is opposite of jin jin hee character.

my money is that he's going to be in the grey area.so bad and good

Done with sub and got excited for ep 1. It's good start. I've never seen the original and don't know much about the story. So PMJ is a policital newbie and  has zero experience in politics. He was appointed just in the  six moths. He was appointed by the then President, pluck out from being a professor at KAISt. He is a scientist.  A scientist does what he believes especially witrh data and not as what politician has to do. He was willing to be fired for the sake  of his scientific beliefs with the with number of car emission  which the data of US delegate got wrong.. and he stood up for what he as a scientific correct calculations.

 

So yes, I can understand his beilderment, his reaction, his actions. Him being uncomfortable. I also like the shoes use as metaphor.  Him being called the "cinderella"

 

I gopt confused with the other characters though but it's only Ep 1.  I gotta watch ep 2 with sub. But since I want to know and aee what happened, I'll check the raw.

I decided to check out Ep 1 because of JJH and LJH ---- and with zero expectations.  Am happy to report that I thoroughly enjoyed the 1st episode and now plan to watch Ep 2 and beyond. See you all around.

@triplem thank you so much for this! i feel the need to mention more about the "Designated Survivor" but then again Korea is not my country. just in case i'm wrong. PMJ is not a designated survivor because he is not designated to survive aside from the fact that SK have the concept of DS or not.

Ok. Episode 2 was a bit better for PMJ. I still don't like the opposition seeing his weakness (shaky leg). I really need some of the staff to be there for him and not try and take authority over him.  They need to come together ... make great speeches... get more than 60 days...PMJ needs an Aaron, Emily and Seth.  It looks like he has a great bodyguard already though (cute too). 

 

The whole NK issue was a little nerve wracking as it moved in slow motion.  But I like how PMJ's environmental knowledge was used and how Nam wook's NK ties came in.

 

And where did the trashy looking US commander come from? US soldiers, especially commanders, are not allowed to look so unkempt.  My goodness it truly disturbed me.  The US is made out to be the big bad wolf. I thought our relationship with SK was good. Of course 45 may have made it bad. Smh. 

 

I hope ep 3 will show PMJ at the siteand reunited with his family at the Blue House. That should be moving as it was in the US version.
