@siobhanne You are welcome!

Don't worry, I won't let the interpretation in the new story ruin the Clown/Ugly. No matter what the director says/agrees, I consider it an independent story. Plus there is a saying "There are a thousand of Hamlets in a thousand people's eyes". So I just keep my own interpretation. :-).

Not sure whether someone has helped on this video. I haven't watched the drama and am lack of context. For the part you are especially curious:

Zhu Yilong was asked by the guy to blow the flour (Is there a flour game in the drama?). Zhu Yilong was about to blow it and changed his mind in the last second. He was saying while he was walking to the guy “Am I stupid? If I blow it, it will fall all over my face (instead of hers)”. I guess he saw through the tricks and that made everyone laughing.

@katthy I'll elaborate on qjys, yes, the director assistant? keep repeating for ZYL to blow the flour and ZYL realized that it will backfire to his face instead. To qjys, that is a scene where they are suppose to be playing around in the kitchen throwing flour at each other. (Visually that looks like fun but really??? I don't see the fun in having flour in my eyes, nose, ears, and hair lol) Also, ZYL continued to throw flour and said, "Do you know how much fun it is to have all the bullets (meaning unlimited supply of flour since the plate of flour is on his side)". Then An Yue Xi 'pretend' to have flour in her eyes and ask for tissue and sneaked over to ZYL's side and pushed him away. ZYL asked what she is doing but he already fell for her trick because she have all the bullets now. lol So adorable. Also for that watering the flower scene, it seems like ZYL was not aware of the fact that An Yue Xi would throw water at him, and that's why he looked surprised but  An Yue Xi said the director ask her to do it lol They seems to be having a lot of fun during filming :) Is it me or does it seems like the crew like to play prank on ZYL? Anyone remember the 'birthday' surprise Ady An gave ZYL? Poor boy... Think he is scarred for life :joy:

Thank you both ladies for your help to understand  1518253597.gif1523366164.gif

But really... poor ZYL... played with pranks by others... 7027799occhioni.gif he's a too good soul and probably he never gets revenge so the others take advantage 1518253871.gif

BUT what was the "birthday surprise" you mentioned that scared ZYL? I've never hear about it...  unsure.gif

This one was part of behind the scenes. A bit too much I think. Roles reversed wouldn't have been funny at all.

But the way he gets teased so often by his cast is like everybody wants to play with the shy, sweet kid

this was from the Royal Sister Return BTS right? thanks RedDragon ^^
anyway... Geez! what a silly prank to play... I really felt embarrassed for him, and her there laughing like crazy... really not funny, NOT AT ALL! 1518253952.gif
Poor our boy... I'd wanted to hug and cover him and slam her on her head to get revenge... it got me ungry to watch it... how can a person make such an idiot prank? 1518253601.gif

Instead he was always pretty much quiet and even TOO MUCH polite in my opinion... he's always a gentlamean in every occasion even in one like this, his maximum revenge was to get her face dirty with cream's cake...

AND.... EVEN in the Granting you... BTS he was almost pranked with the "blow the flour" play?  fortunately he was smart this time and got the prank before falling into it heheheh...

he really is too kind my poor, himself says that's because he's not heartless enough (that he always gets pranked)... I feel like I want to protect him RN 7027799occhioni.gif1518253597.gif

Just a question... the man close to ZYL with glasses on... that protect ZYL and help him immediately to cover and wear the jacket, who is he? is he his personal assistant?

My first reaction, OMG, his his skin is so smooth and light, so flawless.  :blush:  The frank was rude, but his reaction was cute, just like a shy girl.  I can’t imagine if he had no pant on.  He tried to cover himself up.

Hello everyone. I've registered for the sole purpose of joining this thread. I've been lurking here for over a month now :sweatingbullets:. Just thought I should keep the forum going.

Regarding Zhu Yi Long's acting career these last few years, I think the western world has a term for it, which is "character actor".

From wikipedia:

A character actor or character actress is a supporting actor who plays unusual, interesting, or eccentric characters.[2][3][4][5][6][7] The term, often contrasted with that of leading actor, is somewhat abstract and open to interpretation.[8] In a literal sense, all actors can be considered character actors since they all play "characters",[9] but in the usual sense it is an actor who plays a distinctive and important supporting role.[1][10]

The term is sometimes used to describe an actor who plays characters who are very different from the actor's off-screen real-life personality, while in another sense it describes an actor who specializes in minor roles. In either case, character actor roles are more substantial than bit parts or non-speaking extras.

The term is used primarily to describe television and film actors, and is less used to describe theateractors.[11] An early use of the term was in the 1883 edition of The Stage, which defined a character actor as "one who portrays individualities and eccentricities".[12] Actors with a long career history of playing character roles may be difficult for audiences to recognize as being the same actor.[7]

What do you think? Does this describes him? I remember reading articles and reviews of Hollywood movies and they defined Leonardo Dicaprio and Matt Damon as great character actors. Don't how true that is, but I thought, if there is such a term in China filming industry, Zhu Yi Long would be one.

@Tizza Abkarim Welcome! I agree with the description to a certain degree since I don't really agree with the 'supporting role'. I agree because ZYL portrays his characters by first understanding them and then turning himself into them. Hence, he is removing his real life personality and focus on acting out the character... which is why some people find it hard to believe some of his characters are act by the same actor since they are all distinct characters. For the other part of the definition, I don't really agree because the term "supporting role" to me seems like a very special characters in a film or drama that appears within the main actors/actresses life and developed a very lasting impression or effect to the main characters. I am sure ZYL can act that type of character but I have yet to see one of his drama where he did a fantastic job in terms of 'supporting' the main characters, rather I see him overshadowing the main characters most of the time. This is just my two cents and I am glad you are trying to start off discussion to make this place a bit more active again because our ZYL is going to be filming for 6 months...so his news will be minimal I think lol Thanks for letting us know of this term because I think the word "character" should be emphasized since I think ZYL really does a fantastic job in bring his characters out...that's why I find myself loving most of his characters one way or another because they have layers and depth :)

@BreezeC

I am thinking of his roles in My True Friend and The Story of Ming Lan, both upcoming dramas of his. His characters in both, while not main characters, should be vividly portrayed which lead me to think he is not an ordinary actor, but a specialised one. Thus I looked up the term.

Like how Ye Zun overshadowed Shen Wei, his supporting characters could overshadow the main characters easily :sweatingbullets:

ZYL arrived in Hangzhou today. He’s supposed to begin shooting Tomb Notes Restart very soon. I don’t know if you’ve noticed or not. In his recent interviews, his speaking speed has picked up. No more “slow answer” like when he was filming My True Friend. I think he’s getting into the character of Wu Xie. Someone that has read the novel said Wu Xie is a talkative person. And he’s beginning to look like Wu Xie now.

About that character actor theory, I think he’s got a huge potential to play a lot of different characters, but not limited to supporting roles. In China, some fans say “his face is one-series disposable”, it’s difficult to recognize him after each play. When I showed my mother ZYL in the Guardian, she  did not know his name at first, then she remembered she had watched Love Three Lives, As Flowers Fade and Fly Across the Sky, The Legend of Mi Yue, and even Border Town Prodigal. But she could not relate those characters with ZYL.

As for me, I did not watch a lot of Chinese TV series in these years. So I perfectly avoided him until I watched the Guardian. Then I got even amazed after I discovered that he had played the “monkey”. I began to realize his acting is different than a lot of actors. Each role of him is different and unique, and he is able to get into each character so well. From all the films and TV series of him, I would recommend 王阳明 Wang Yang Ming (Korean subtitles available) and 家宴 Family Feast. Since these two series were well-written, had logical storylines and good actors. And ZYL’s characters in these two are mind-blowingly interesting. One is a notorious emperor of the Ming Dynasty, and another is ummmm, how should I describe him, a jerk? But unfortunately I cannot find any English subs for these two.
