Ah, now I remember, wasn't there a bts video where the director ask NQ to beat her with a stick below her butt??? Isn't it too much??  I think SS was in this pink dress in that bts scene.  So, will he be beating her in the drama?.  Then can we blame the director or the screenwriter for this exaggerated scenes???:scream:

And indeed NQ looks sad bidding goodbye to MSS in that video.  In later chapters also, NQ seems to have some regret abt MSS and SS also tell him that he seem to regret abt it.

I remember seeing that too & I was appalled. I definitely hope that part didnt make into the cut. NQ is suppose to be SS's protector/life. Hitting her physically that way would not translate well w/ me as a viewer.

Yeah. He likes MSS because they can get along with cultivation and Calligraphy which they both love doing. But aside from that, they can't find any connection at all and sometimes they just both fell silent because there's nothing to talk about. At least that's what I read from the novel.

True!! I remember seeing in one of the wilderness episodes they also had differing views about the demon sect. Where MSS believed if they're from demon sect they're all evil but NQ thought differently. They both got defensive about their own views, especially MSS. Whereas if it was SS she believes and agrees with whatever NQ says :P

I feel the same way! I actually was so addicted to ningsang in the drama from the first few eps that I started reading the translated novel. I've never gotten a sibling vibe, only such a close loving bond between them. And I loved the way NQ looks at SS. :wub:if he could he would shoot hearts from his eyes towards her hahaha. I also seen some comments of criticism that Songyiren is too ugly to play SS. But I honestly think she is so cute and pretty she glows. And it's so refreshing to have a main female lead that isn't your typical type of beauty.

Don't worry about those haters who said that she's too ugly to play the role. They were just drown in their own fantasy of fake beauty. This here is the reality. Not all heroine are goddesses. The best one wear simple aura but carries deep character. And not all men loves pretty ladies too. They love humor and character more than fair skin, oval face and long legs.

I like that both CFY& SY have this unconventional beauty/natural appearance in the drama. I dont think SY is ugly at all. In EN, she's the standout for me, in terms of acting & I love her portrayal as SS. Such an endearing/precious character.

Yes, Season 1 should be about NQ and his revenge,  and SS's role is more apparent in S2 (people said that it's the core of the story). So I dont mind if the show is focusing on him.

What I mind is, you know , this :

And this :

No it's not happening in the novel. He only wish he could do that, like what he usually did when she was a KID, BUT he knew that he couldnt do it now, so he didnt. I dont understand why they should make him do that in the drama. What's the point?

I really didnt think it's beating. Im sorry. It is just, I see more affection in him doing it. He acted like a brother who were scolding her. And besides, in Asia, spanking is acceptable as form of discipline.

And about him being sad when they bid farewell, indeed it is right. Because even in the novel, he was having heavy heart upon doing it. Because as what he said, those from the outside world are really good too so he wanted to have them. But then after seeing SS again, he forgot all those thoughts right away because SS filled up everything in his life.

I hope so.

It doesnt look good on screen, so I hope it's a lot better when we see the whole thing.

Oh, it will be. I'm positive. And also, even in the novel, every time NQ sees MSS, the small regrets and concerns are still there. He sometimes think of her and wanted to at least spend a little time with her. But then, after all, MSS is his first realization of what love and affection means as a grown man. Let's just give it to him. Lol

Being angry in one thing but NQ looks outright furious & manhandling her(from the preview clips). Please, no spanking because it definitely does not read well onscreen.

Regardless of culture, I really dislike when male characters roughly handle female characters that way. It's not a good look.

Hello Chingu’s

I would like to tell you guys my opinion on everyone’s discussion on how the drama and novel is really different. I think it is different because it a woman writing the script and a woman directing. Some have said he still has doubts or missed MSS because his feeling were genuine. Even SS knew he had had doubts. I haven’t reache that part yet in the novel. I am back at CH 111. I was dying to see SS leave him so that he can make a choice. Let’s face it in RL forcing a man to chose when he should have made the choice all by himself would always leave doubt in his mind. I am certain that NQ’s love for SS is reall and much deeper because truthfully SS is life for him and vice versa with her. Due to this being a drama, I think the writer and drama may be trying to get rid of that doubts ever resurfacing in the future episode , so that  NQ’s love for SS is much more deeper and earth shattering to us viewers. They want it to be “EPIC” or like some Koreans would say “ DAEBAK!!!”. We all have to wait see is if these scenes are up to our approval or not. I fear that when a drama is being aired there are certain criteria’s they must meet in the drama due to some law or regulation that wherever the drama is being filmed or shown.

@rhaps @stucked @greenwatch08 @Daylight Chang @thartie @pad-hari @ningsangcpp  WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK???

TBH , I notice when watching clips with no subs some scenes can be misinterpreted due or find offensive to some viewers unless you watch the whole episode and have sub.h only complaint is that we do see them reunited until the following week. :bawling::tears: There is so much more they need to cover right now.

P.S I don’t doubt the spoilers but I would like to read the the before chapter and after chapter o get a better understanding on what is being written. I may see it in a different light so I can share with the rest of you.

Ok first time posting but have been obsessed with this drama and am loving the discussion here and want to join in the fun.  I have read the novel and am up to date with it but lagging on the drama cause like most I am angsting over the NQ-MSS scenes and want to have the sweet moments from later episodes on hand to tide me over these parts

But I think those who are pissed off at drama NQ don't get what an a**$%le he is in the novel.  First off, there were a few times where he got handsy with the prostitutes especially the main one (can't remember her name) and the only thing stopping him from taking it further was because of the orders of that female owner/head and because the main prostitute ended up serving his mentor/master so sharing a woman wtih your master/mentor is supposed to be taboo. Unlike the drama where he throws away the porn book from that reading addict's cave in disgust, in the novel he actually takes it home. He and Chen pipi have a pretty much locker room talk about sex and girls where chen pipi asks him about sangsang and he say's "is she even a woman?"

So NQ is your basic hormonal teenager but, problem is that sangsang is still a minor and good thing that he is a decent human being and does not cross the line.  So here comes MSS...beautiful, around the same age as he is, likes the same things, and most important really likes him.  If you read the chapters where he has the argument with sangsang and he vents by the lake then you'll see that Ni Que pretty much thinks he can have his cake and eat it too.  He assumed that he can have a relationship with MSS and even marry her since sangsang is too young for all that but still keep the same kind of quite intimate relationship with sangsang.  He never once considered what the two girls might think about this arrangement or even how this will all work.  He vents at the lake about why he can't have other relationships and just be stuck with one for the rest of his life...basically saying he wants to sow his wild oats while waiting for sangsang to grow up pretty much :joy:

Soo agree with this...in the novel he does tell Sangsang during their argument that he genuinely likes MSS and not in the way of liking the prostitutes or the bathing girls he peaked at when he was younger.  The fact that he develops some romantic feelings for MSS that comes not just from being physically attracted to her and yet still choose to give her up tells you just how deep his love is for Sangsang.  I mean, you can't even say it's a sense of responsibility or guilt to Sangsang that he chooses her because Sangsang showed that she is quite capable of figuring out her own future without him.

I agree with you! Until we watch the full episode we can completely misunderstand just by watching the previews. Even for myself I understand Mandarin and when I watch the previews I'm not getting the full picture of the full episode. Like for example this particular  scene where NQ was about to leave for the wilderness and SS was crying and coming to see him off, when she turned around and hugged him from behind - before this episode aired, based on the official mvs /short clips that were released I was mislead and thought it was a scene where she hugged him and said "I don't like you liking someone else" because that's the voice over they were playing in the background in most of the mvs. Turns out it was a completely different scene in the episode haha

So I believe with the bts clip where NQ is smacking her bum can even be his imagination and snaps out of it? Since in the novel he thought about doing it but didn't.

Just to add to that, I feel like they spent wayyy to much screen time for MSS/NQ. Like all those unnecessary flirting scenes turned me off. If they needed to fill episode screen time I would've much rather seen SS and WGM's interactions . Or even SS and CPP interactions were much more entertaining too. :D

Haha so basically NQ just wants to get laid by anyone HAHA LOL

Explains why he flirts so much and princess, MSS and YHY all get smitten with him

I like that he respects and loves SS and is waiting for her to be of age. Like when in ep 29 she hugged him from behind and he knew he was having bad thoughts so he quickly separated himself from her hahaha :P

@ningsangcpp   I don't think he wants any girl but he s horny. Episode 29 he asked Jian Da Jian why can't he wne he is 18 already. I remmebered when he got drunk at the Red Sleeve brothel, he sad why can't he have fun and he has a lot of money but what saved him is , he was asked f he didn't have anyone waiting for him at home. He perked right up. Thinking of Sang Sang.

I stopped at episode 30 for this drama and maybe i'll continue when subs are released 'til about episode 50, maybe by then MSS is out of the picture. But the book is my lifesaver, it's so much better but the drama is still doing a pretty good job depicting the gist of the chapters. I'm at ch 621 and the cliffhangers per chapter are killing me. I really love NQ's no bull**** attitude and how much he loves SS even though he's very weird in expressing them. Ughh.. I love them both! And I miss Master Yan Se.

Very true @rhaps the author is male. Then we have a female writer and female director who is trying or thought changing some stuff to attract female viewers. Which only complicated relationship dynamics couldn’t thick of a way to make the relationships click because of the short window to tell us the first arc of this story. I think they should have left it the way the author had created at first since they are using most the author’s material so that it can sync well.
