On the previous episode of “The Veil,” Han Ji Hyuk asked Kang Pil Ho (played by Kim Jong Tae) to play a video he had recorded for himself one year ago—before erasing his own memory—in front of all the high-ranking officials at the agency. However, to everyone’s shock, the video featured Han Ji Hyuk saying, “The person who killed your colleagues that day… was you, Han Ji Hyuk.”

Following this unexpected turn of events, the drama’s upcoming episode will delve back into Han Ji Hyuk’s past, which has been veiled in mystery thus far. In newly released stills from the episode, Han Ji Hyuk from one year ago is a tortured soul that looks nothing like the poised, neatly groomed agent of the present day. A complete wreck both physically and mentally, Han Ji Hyuk has an empty look of despair in his eyes as he holds a gun up to his own temple.

Namgoong Min Doesn’t Give Up His Search To Find His Real Enemy In “The Veil”

Namgoong Min will come face to face with both Jang Young Nam and Lee Kyung Young in the next episode of “The Veil”!

“The Veil” is a blockbuster spy drama starring Namgoong Min as Han Ji Hyuk, an elite field agent whose perfect record and skill at completing missions make him a legend at the NIS (National Intelligence Service). However, just when he seemed to have finally succeeded in driving an organized crime syndicate into a corner, Han Ji Hyuk suddenly vanishes off the face of the earth. After losing his memories and going missing for a year, he makes a bold return to the organization to find the traitor who attempted to kill his entire team.

Spoilers

On the previous episode, Han Ji Hyuk asked Kang Pil Ho (played by Kim Jong Tae) to play a video he had recorded for himself one year ago – before erasing his own memory – in front of all the high-ranking officials at the agency. However, to everyone’s shock, the video featured Han Ji Hyuk saying, “The person who killed your colleagues that day… was you, Han Ji Hyuk.”

With this unexpected turn of events, things are expected to grow more intense. On October 16, the drama unveiled new stills of Han Ji Hyuk meeting both Lee In Hwan (Lee Kyung Young) and Do Jin Sook (Jang Young Nam). First, Han Ji Hyuk sits down to talk with Lee In Hwan, who has been suffocating Han Ji Hyuk and his partner Yoo Je Yi (Kim Ji Eun) due to his lust for power. What will Lee In Hwan tell Han Ji Hyuk, and how is he related to the Shenyang case that happened a year ago?

The confrontation between Han Ji Hyuk and Do Jin Sook, who resigned from her position as NIS’s second deputy director, is also intriguing. Previously, Han Ji Hyuk had accused her as the person who instigated the crisis that led to his colleagues’ death, but she had strongly denied it. However, Han Ji Hyuk is still suspicious of her, and the contrast of emotions between a doubtful Han Ji Hyuk and a relaxed Do Jin Sook creates a strange atmosphere in the room.

The drama’s producers teased, “After the shocking statement that the person who killed his colleagues was ‘himself,’ everything has fallen into a labyrinth. However, Han Ji Hyuk doesn’t stop his investigation to find the real enemy. It will be interesting to infer whether the person behind all these secrets is Lee In Hwan, Do Jin Sook, or an unexpected third person.”

What I like about this drama is not merely about betrayal vs loyalty, truth vs lies, it is the core belief that people hold on firmly whether they are powerful enough to overcome all the obstacles. Do Jin-Sook and Lee In-Hwan - both have their own belief in reaching their own personal interest, but they work towards their goals at the expense of their teammates' death and their mental suffering. Baek Mo Sa himself is also a victim of this whole plot.

I like Lee In-Hwan's metaphor. The root of the whole disaster begins with human greed and power. It injects fear into humans and creates catastrophes. More threats mean more opportunities. This is how politicians work: new technologies (leveraging on "Planet" tech), new threats, new governance challenges, new Power forms will be created. If Lee died in this EP10, there will still be another new form of power come up to replace it. It is a never-ending story especially in political arena.  Sad to say...

Ji Hyuk might not be the one to kill his colleagues, his memory somehow might be distorted. If we could recall his memory, Chang Chun-Woo was being shot and lying there too with the other 2 dead colleagues, Kim Dong-Wook and Oh Kyung-Seok. Chang Chun-Woo was not fully dead that night, his actual dead body was hung over the building. In other words, that night someone else might have entered the room to remove the injured Chang Chun-Woo. The likelihood is Baek Mo-Sa and his men.

Ji Hyuk's both colleagues that having "internal war" was the creation and order of their bosses. Do Jin-Sook vs Lee In-Hwan. Both have different opinions about running the country.

Oh Kyung-Seok, who was Seo Soo-Yeon's boyfriend, was a surprise to me. Whether they are "using each other" for exchanging information, or a real

"boyfriend girlfriend" relationship, we shall see more on the spin-off ep.

Every ep comes with a twist and turn element, I sincerely hope that this drama will win the best screenplay of the year.  Keep my finger cross :)

Just finished watching episode 10 and WHAT A DRAMA?? :scream: I am really impressed by the writer that everything has put in to the right order. Hope Yoo Je Yi will be by Han Ji Hyuk's side until the very end. Now that Lee In Hwan is gone, I am so looking forward to see how Han Ji Hyuk make everything right back to normal. Can't wait for the finale episodes next week! :partyblob:

At this rate, I doubt what Lee In Hwan said that Baek Mo Sa is Yoo Je Yi's father! I mean why would Baek Mo Sa go this far? What's his real motive? I think there's more than what we know so far? Can't wait to find out! :partyblob:

3 Villainous Entities That Complicate Namgoong Min’s Mission In “The Veil”

dummy.jpeg?s=900x600&e=t

Oct 17, 2021

Who is the true villain in MBC’s “The Veil”?

“The Veil” is a blockbuster spy drama starring Namgoong Min as Han Ji Hyuk, an elite field agent whose perfect record and skill at completing missions make him a legend at the NIS (National Intelligence Service). However, just when he seemed to have finally succeeded in driving an organized crime syndicate into a corner, Han Ji Hyuk suddenly vanishes off the face of the earth. After losing his memories and going missing for a year, he makes a bold return to the organization to find the traitor who attempted to kill his entire team.

From an illegal drug-smuggling ring and a secretive council made up of current and former NIS agents to the criminal Baek Mo Sa (Yoo Oh Sung), the villains in “The Veil” might seem simple at first glance. However, as their true identities and the power they hold is gradually being revealed, Han Ji Hyuk’s path to revenge appears to be growing more and more complicated.

Below is a look at three forces of evil that Han Ji Hyuk must take down in “The Veil.”

Spoilers

1. The main culprit behind the Shenyang case

Han Ji Hyuk discovered a lead regarding the Shenyang case in which his colleagues were killed in the “Brown Bear Project” that had been carried out two years ago. At the time, his boss Kim Dong Hwan (Im Chul Hyung) had been chasing an illegal Chinese drug ring when he was brutally murdered, and the “Brown Bear Project” was started in order to find the truth behind his death. Although Han Ji Hyuk interrogated Kim Dong Hwan’s informant and gang member Lee Choon Gil (Jang Sung Bum), the truth was hidden in a different place altogether.

While carrying out his mission in Shenyang, a gang member he had eliminated was the son of the drug ring’s leader Hwang Mo Sool (Sung No Jin), and Hwang Mo Sool was out to avenge his son’s death. However, the culprit who killed Han Ji Hyuk’s NIS colleagues turned out to not be Hwang Mo Sul, and the revelation of another mastermind behind the murders threw the case back into murky waters.

2. The council of NIS agents and the existence of the “Black Agent”

While Han Ji Hyuk’s partner Yoo Je Yi (Kim Ji Eun) had been investigating North Korean defector-turned-reporter Jung Gi Sun (Kim Ji Sung), a suspected spy, she realized that the records that proved her charges had been doctored by none other than the black agent Jang Chun Woo (Jung Moon Sung).

Jung Gi Sun had been receiving threats on her life after it was found out that she had a hand in the leaking of the list of participants in the private meeting of current and former NIS agents. Surprisingly, it turned out that Jang Chun Woo was the person who had tipped her off on the proceedings. It was also revealed that he had been trying to harm her after growing worried that the truth of his betrayal would be made known.

In the end, Seo Soo Yeon (Park Ha Sun), who orchestrated the spy operation, was murdered, along with Jang Chun Woo. It remains to be seen who the pivotal figure of the council could be.

Jung-Moon-Sung.jpeg

3. The appearance of Baek Mo Sa, the “man behind the curtain”

The tension in the drama reached new heights with the appearance of Baek Mo Sa, the powerful villain who controls the border between China and North Korea. One year ago in Shenyang, Han Ji Hyuk and his colleagues were keeping watch on a meeting between Jang Chun Woo, Baek Mo Sa, and Ri Dong Chul (Kim Gwi Sun). Afterwards, the list of NIS agent names was leaked, and the “Bloody Friday” incident occurred as the agents whose names had been revealed were murdered. As Jang Chun Woo and Ri Dong Chul were among the slain, all eyes naturally turned to Baek Mo Sa.

Chasing the tail of Baek Mo Sa and figuring out the identity of the traitor who stabbed the back of the NIS and murdered Han Ji Hyuk’s colleagues are now of the utmost priority. As it has been suggested that the identity of Baek Mo Sa could be none other than Yoo Je Yi’s missing father, viewers are on the edges of their seats as they await the next episode.

Its interesting that things are still not clear yet. Now that Lee In Hwan is gone with 2 episodes left, it is interesting to see who is connected with Baek Mo Sa, since Lee In Hwan planned to have him killed actually. Is it Director Kang? Is it Director Do? or we have got others involved here.

It is also not clear if Baek Mo Sa is Je Yi's father or not. I liked how she worked with Han Ji Hyuk in fooling Lee In Hwan. I also found it rather unusual for her to react that way on knowing Ji Hyuk had installed the bugging program in her phone and was listening to her conversations. In normal circumstances yes, she should have been angry and upset, but this all happened after she didn't send the CCTV footage Ji Hyuk had sent her, and it was good to see her understand Ji Hyuk here and put up an act of being upset instead.

Just when we were supposed to trust Ji Hyuk's memory, they just made him memories inconsistent by showing he didn't actually kill his father and shot the ceiling instead, which now leaves the room for what he thinks he remembered to be missing something. His memories are not to be trusted, which means he either is remembering something wrongly or he is missing some more details in his memories.

It was an interesting turn of events that he actually killed his team member, who had killed the other one actually. I had suspected this, but was thinking it was likely to be the case.

Now with Lee In Hwan gone, the balance of power in the NIS is disturbed. Let's see how things will turn out in the final two episodes.

The Veil: Episodes 9-10 Open Thread

by missvictrix

Veil0910_1.jpg

The big reveal is finally here, as our hero from the past gives our present-day hero some insight that changes everything. Between self-imposed deadlines and so many lines and loyalties crossed, our hero’s head is left spinning — and so is ours.

EPISODES 9-10 WEECAP

Veil0910_2.jpg

So much changes for Ji-hyuk this week it feels like an absolute whirlpool. It’s full of twists and twists on twists, and it starts with Ji-hyuk and Ye-ji parting ways as partners when she finds out he’s tapped her phone. It feels a little too sterile an interaction for these two, and sure enough it was a plot — Ye-ji is busy getting an in with DEPUTY DIRECTOR LEE IN-HWAN (Lee Kyung-young).

We’ve seen him fighting with Deputy Director Do during the whole drama, but he takes front and center this week as not only (big reveal) the head of Sangmuhoe, but the one that’s working with Planet to manipulate data, the population, and thus, elections. In other words, he’s the mole that Ji-hyuk has been searching for.

Veil0910_3.jpg

Though Deputy Director Lee doesn’t trust Ye-ji, he lets her in and she sees the massive surveillance machine that he’s been building. In his defense, he says he doesn’t like the NIS being swayed by politics and politicians, and that it should have a sole goal of protecting the country. That’s all well and good, but where he fails is that he basically wants all that power and control — and political say-so — for himself.

Ji-hyuk infiltrated Deputy Director Lee’s operation just when the final video from his past self has comes in. It’s a huge moment, and more than Chief Ha are in on it this time. Indeed, it’s almost as if all of the NIS has been fighting amongst itself and splintered so much that they’ve come full circle. Now, they’re (mostly) united against the very real threat of Deputy Director Lee controlling and codifying the entire population.

Luckily, Ji-hyuk has identified the mole before the video arrives (which was the time limit he gave himself), which is good. But everyone’s involved now, and all of the NIS leadership stream the video in their boardroom, while Deputy Director Lee has it played in the VR chamber where they’ve just had a massive stand-off.

What past-Ji-hyuk says crushes everyone. He finally shares the truth: that he, Ji-hyuk ,was the one that killed his teammates. He shares his original plan to return to the NIS with his memories wiped out, and to find the mole that was responsible for their op going bad (which led to those deaths). So while Ji-hyuk claims responsibility, he also knows there’s a wider narrative.

Always looking forward to watch this drama EP whenever Friday comes every week...the intense plot is the most enticing me.

Whenever I watch the undercover storylines of NIS, FBI, CIA, and KGB, I always pity their fate. Do they have a choice? They sacrifice their freedom and their beloved ones in exchange for loyalty to the country? What did they get in return when the country abandoned them for political reasons. With so many cases cited, Baek Mo-Sa is one of the classic cases. The return of his revenge and hatred is extremely dangerous for the country. Has the country paused to reflect carefully about what caused his result? His mental suffering will never be  recovered, even if it takes years to do so.....

Human rights are the basic rights and freedoms that belong to everyone. But when it comes to politics and serving the country, they are deprived of their freedom. That's why Baek Mo Sa would never forget his past that deep rooted in his heart and thoughts.

If Baek Mo Sa is finally destroyed, will there be another one? I believe that as long as the joint efforts of the higher up corruption team and the Sam Mo-he team are still in control, there will be another one...Perhaps there will be a Season 2? Back to the basic, demand and supply rule applies :)
