That warning made him more determined to find out what happened to his brother. If whatever I guessed is correct then it is definitely future Tae Sul is setting up the path for his past self.

On the Quantum & Time Conference 2020 brochure, why was the print “Han Tae Sul, Quantum & Time CEO” marked with a red “X”? Seo Hae mentioned that if Tae Sul opened the suitcase, “they” will kill him so she needs to go to Busan. Is it related?

 

Also, at the shed, Tae Sul had a hallucination of Tae San and he said, “What took you so long?” What did he mean by that? Was it just a metaphor that Tae Sul is finally asking questions and searching for answers?

 

It sounded like Pres. Park (Sung Dong Il) and Tae San were trying to make some kind of deal. He was supposed to give the key to the safe to Park, but in exchange for what? Tae Sul’s life? I can’t wait to know what is in the safe and why Park wants it so bad. It seems it has to do with the ability to time travel. Does it to allow it, but also could stop it?

From the preview, Tsan is alive in 2020 and he is still traveling in time. Two people know the code to the shed, it was unlocked.  I think it could either be future TS or TSan who collected the clippings and marked them.  The content of the safe... it has to be valuable in the future for the smuggling business and Park.  Is it to recharge the cells and the time travelers?  Since it was in the shed, could be something in the past that are now valuable in the future?  TSan came back to the shed to take it with him to the future.

 

HS opened her diary on the day of her journal entry and followed the instructions she wrote to herself - call TS to not open the suitcase.  Since she didn't get to talk to him, she needs to meet him in person. How did she know to go to Busan?  She has done this before (from the journal) since she is in a time loop.

Future TS left the msg for himself using the paint spray and the painting, in a way that only he would be able to decode.  TS wants the events to stay the same up to a critical moment which he will then change to save HS' fate and also his brother.  He's guiding himself to that point.  HS will need to protect him until then.

 

Here are the letters and diary entry, same handwriting?  the pink diary seems like one of a young girl, like HS in the locket pics.  Note that the diary entry 8.13.20 is 2 days earlier than the Busan conference 8.15.20.  but matches the present time in the drama.  There's maybe too much of a gap in age no?  TS is 38 yo in 2020 (1982er).

Now that is interesting. It means, both Tae Sul and Seo Hae want to stop the Sisyphean cycle. Seo Hae wants the events to stop completely by stopping the "somewhat" start point of all those events. Future Tae Sul feels like the events should pan out to some point and then change them at critical point, and this makes a lot more sense to me now. 

 

But this also confirms we have doppelgängers, and I wonder, will we see them meeting at one point or not.

@Sleepy Owlyeah, my guess is TS and HS want to stop the future but at different points in the timeline.  Maybe this is why they keep looping around because each changes the event in his/her timeline based on his/her goal.  Their goals are different with the previous attempts.  HS is weary, she has been repeating the same cycle over and over again.   She's out of juice, she fizzled out.  TS must be the same.

 

In 2020, when they meet in 2020, it will be the first time they have to work together.  This is pivotal cuz the change will start happening in E3.  @pompyavi POV would bring the possibility of doppelgangers.

I believe both of them does not know where the origin or the starting point is. Or if the starting point is supposed to be in their world???

 

This reminds me of the plot of another series where a scientist in the origin world made a time machine to go back to a point where his son is alive but the machine ended up splitting the world into two realities where certain events keeps on looping. In one reality the FL wants the loop to go on and in the other reality ML wants to destroy the knot that connects the two world/realities. Both of them guide their younger/past self to keep things happening the same way to achieve their goal. FL's goal was to keep the loop going forever whereas the ML wanted things to happen the same way and at one point he would find a way to destroy the knot. But since the origin lied outside of both the world the ML could never destroy the knot unless another time traveler realized that both the worlds grew out of something else. The traveler then used Schrödinger cat's experiment of dual realities to make her self choose a different path and go to the original world to stop everything.

 

@nrllee The plot above is from a critically praised scifi series where people were left scratching their heads after every episode. All though they repeatedly gave out several hints but none of us could catch those. After the final season we were like oh they hinted all these throughout the show..

 

Edit: the dialogue "the question is not from where but when" they have copied it from the series for which the plot i have mentioned. Just replaced "how" with "where".

Well, I think they have just set a critical point for it. For Seo Hae, if he had not opened the bag, maybe the events that would trigger would be lot different in way that they would not meet, as her dad wants it and so she would not die in the future as she has the memory flash. 

 

Future Tae Sul instead might want him to finally be with Seo Hae and marry her peaceful, since he loves her. So he might want the events leading them to meet and also meet his brother happen and then make change at a point where things would change and they would remain together. 

 

So there definitely is no starting point, it never exists. Its them who decide what they want their starting point to be and make it the point where they trigger changes.

I was curious about those items in Tae San's suitcase as well. Seo Hae's suitcase also had some peculiar items - a set of canisters filled with blue glowing stuff. Is this why the Control Bureau is after her? They must be critical to the time travel operation or the time traveler(s).

I'm not an expert in quantum physics, quantum entanglement, etc... nor did I watch Dark.  I am going to pose my theories and guesses on the simplest explanations so that logics won't fail me.

I think all roads and answers will lead to Tan Sul.  Specifically to his absence in the future.  My guess is Tae Sul is either dead or not around at the beginning of the movie when we see illegal immigrants being uploaded at the station.  After his death, his invention got into the wrong hands which lead to the holocaust. Tae Sul's decision at his wedding triggered all events afterward.  

 

I think he chose to save HS' life at the wedding (gave up the world) and caused a cascade of terrible events.  In the future, both of them entered into the sisyphus time travel loop in hope of preventing holocaust.  

 

1) TS traveled back in time, trying to guide himself to prevent the events that lead to the wedding.  There's a critical point in time that he needs to be at to make the changes that can save Tsan.  He also needs to make changes at some point to avoid the scenario at the wedding.  We don't know when these are yet.  Is opening the suitcase the right move?  We also don't know but if we see more clues left by the future TS in the next episodes, we know 2020 TS is on the right path.

 

2) At this point, we just know that HS wants TS to stay alive.  This enforces the theory that his death lead to the holocaust.  She has failed the missions before (based on the diary entries).  HS' mission to stop TS opening the suitcase has failed on 8/13 so she needs to proceed to the next steps at Busan.  HS' goal is to prevent the holocaust but that means the wedding event where she is hurt has to change too I supposed.  Her father wants the same thing, for HS not to meet TS so she won't get hurt.  

 

Does it mean to save the world, TS and HS cannot meet?  Or if they meet (like in episode 3 in 2020), they must exert the right changes moving forward to save the world, TSan and HS? In order to do that, HS must protect TS at all cost.

 

It's a good dilemma and an interesting set up.

Why does Tae Sul have his ex-girlfriend as a psychologist?

 

I'm not a specialist in psychology, but I think the psychologist should be a neutral ground. Someone who has no emotional background for the patient, or for whom the patient has no actual past. Because of possible emotional problems during therapy.
Besides I have read several comments making this criticism (but they were probably not specialists either).
I don't know the answer that a professional could give on this subject, but in any case, as far as the scenario is concerned, there is an obvious answer.

• Tae Sul is using his former girlfriend as a therapist because he can easily get prescriptions for his pills.
• On the other hand, his ex-girlfriend agrees to that, perhaps because she has ulterior motives. Such as belonging to an organization that has hired her to monitor Tae Sul.
