• Crown Prince Wang Mu, our resident teddy bear soft-hearted wang mu. As a crown prince he bears greater responsibility compare to his other sibling, but with heated palace politics he is a center target of everything and needs to present himself in certain way also hiding any sign of weakness just to survive. All in all, he's in a constant life-threatening situation all the time. This is something that probably hard for him to get used to because unlike his younger siblings, he was much older than them and even born way before goryeo dynasty founded by his father. So yes technically he is different than his siblings, he was not born as a prince, he was born as a military commander son. No wonder he was known as capable military commander and play a key role in his father accomplishment conquering baekje. Unfortunately he was not known as politically-savvy prince, he spent all his youth doing military activities but seems not too successful in gaining support from powerful clan to achieve stability during his reign. What possibly make the situation worse is his health condition. Eczema might be treatable conditions today, but it was difficult during that period. All emotional stress he got didn't help the case either, it triggers the flares. In his conversation with jimong, he also mentions that he frequently missed important court meetings and neglects his duty as crown prince. It burdens him greatly that even he start questioning himself whether or not he is being greedy trying to keep a position that he probably doesn't deserve. Which kind of showcased his tender and sensitive nature. Another instances that highlights his soft-hearted self are: 1. Witnessing wang so tragedy, it was him who came to the rescue first. Everyone else was so scared or left stunned that no court lady/eunuch dare to take bleeding little so. Even if he is still relatively young back then. 2. He feels terrible when he realized that wang so got hurt pretending to be him, as if he took advantage wang so wishes to stay in the palace. Although in fact it was all jimong idea, as it was the only way wang so could stay. But he takes all of the responsibility, promised to take care of wang so and pleads before the king to let him stay. 3. Even after wang so back stabbed him by burning those temples and eliminating all of evidence for his evil queen mother, he holds no grunge and try to understand his reasons. Wang mu still keep his promise to pleads the king to forgive him and let him stay. He's such a great big bother figure that it's unfortunate that he wasn't able to showcased his full potential as king and suffered a great power struggle during his reign that eventually cost his life.
• 3rd Prince Wang Yo, our villainous character that we love to despise but looked great with eyeliner on. Yes he is a truly despicable man that shows no remorse even after committing a grave mistake or worse, legit crime. He loves to bully and falsely thinking that everyone else is beneath him. But if we dug deeper to his character, he is honestly quite pitiful. He was born as second son to evil queen and struggle to stand out for tiniest affection. No wonder it was him at first that promised to be sent to Kang's clan in shinju. He was around the same age to concubine kang's son that died early. But tragedy happens, and he was "saved" from that terrible fate and evil queen sent wang so instead. Thinking he was debted to his mother kindness after not exiling him, he was determined to return the favor towards his mother. He was desperate thinking he at least need to useful to his mother to earn her affection. Since then he became mama's boy, feeding her mother's greed and vengeful behavior, a mere tool for her goals. Take a look at episode 4 when wang so ratted out evil queen connection to crown prince assassination plan, wang yo start panicking and stupidly pleading to the king taking all the blame himself even before it was proven. He was not that smart, confident and conniving villain like he tries to be. Without his mother, he just an empty shell. What's make it more pitiful is even with all of his dedication, his mother still feel indifferent towards him and just treat him like a tool. He will never receive the same kind of love she gaves to jung unconditionally. It's interesting to note that his hatred towards wang so is not only to mimics his mother, but also to curse the life that almost his fate.

- He is not just acting like a big brother to Wang So alone. Notice that he was the one who asked for Hae Soo so that she could prepare something for Wang Eun's birthday. He knew that she was important to Wang Eun which means he usually listens to his younger brother. Then during the party, he made some signs with his eyes to Wang Jung and Baek Ah so that they would make Wang Eun drunk. So he had talked about it to his younger brothers before. He seems to be a very caring and gentle person. In my opinion, he thinks similarly to Hae Soo: family is important and the best gift can not be bought. HE knew that Wang Eun would love his present: seeing Hae Soo was his gift.

- He doesn't pay much attention to social status because he asked Hae Soo to stay with them. 

- I believe, he feels also guilty that Wang So got the scar because he was the other reason why Queen Yoo was upset. Her son was dead, but he knew that Queen Yoo couldn't stand the fact that he, Wang Mu, would replace her dead son.

- Notice that Wang So had his brother by his side, when he confronted Ji Mong about the possibility to stop the marriage. So Wang Mu with his presence showed his support to his brother, he must have listened to his request.

- His mother's clan is not that powerful and even his marriage didn't help to arrange his situation.

- Then Hae Soo dreamt of a king who drowned and I believe, it is him. I noticed that HAe Soo mentioned that he needed to take a bath and I guess, she meant with certain herbs. At some point, (in this drama) he will get attacked while treating his eczema.

To me, Wang Mu shares a lot with Hae Soo: he is taking care of others (Wang Eun, Wang So), he protects his brother if needed. He doesn't like to be unfair that's why he asks court lady Oh not to scold Hae Soo so much because she had helped him. So he recognises kindness. As conclusion, he would feel much better, if he lived in the 21st century. His eczema comes from the dilemna he is confronted with: being the Crown Prince, although he doesn't want to be. He is the opposite of Wang Yo who is so greedy and selfish. Finally, Wang Mu keeps his promises, unlike Wang Yo.

Considering that GHJ/HS went though an otherworldly and magical time-travelling experience, it feels only natural she would have these sorts of prophetic visions. However, it shows how extremely distorted and incomplete her knowledge and perception about history really is. Until she had that dream, she had thought that it was Gwangjong who was the 2nd king which is normal because Taejo, Gwangjong and Gongmin are the three Goryeo monarchs that your average Korean knows. It’s similar to the U.S presidents in America - everyone remembers Washington, Lincoln or Roosevelt, but barely anyone knows about the likes of Taylor, Fillmore or Pierce.

This is one of the biggest differences between Moon Lovers and the original novel and cdrama - RX had an exceptional knowledge of the history and knew from the very beginning that the 4th Prince would become the Emperor and that he would be merciless in his quest for the throne, which caused that she kept her distance from him for a very long time, even when he began to have feelings for her, and warned the 8th against him which basically initiated the whole strife of the princes. 

On the other hand, Hae Soo is drawn to Wang So like moth to a flame, more than to any other of his brothers; he is the one to whom she opens up the most. Another factors is that Moon Lovers deal with much more ancient history than the original BBJX - it’s much easier to remember what happened in the 18th century than in the 10th. It’s logical that the historical events blend together and get mixed up in HS’s hazy memory - she might be even connecting with Gwangjong events and deeds which were committed by his older brother. Plus historical records from 1000 years ago are not that accurate; still the truth remains that Gwangjong was known for purges of his rivals, but at the same time for his enlightened deeds uncommon for his era like emancipation of slaves or the introduction of gwageo (the national civil service examinations), deeds she doesn’t remember.

“This is that kind of a place, isn’t it? You have to wield a sword at a very young age. You have to kill others if you want to live. What can you do? It’s not a crime to want to live. You probably won’t be forgiven. Still, I understand you. How you’re feeling right now. It must be so miserable. I think I can relate.”

The most important thing is that right now, Hae Soo is judging Gwangjong’s actions with her modern sensibilities and perceptions of morals and based on her vague, distorted knowledge of history. However, she already started to recognize that things are not so simple in this era, not black and white. She herself has cut herself to avoid a forced marriage. She has already begun to understand So’s reasons and motivations, that he needs to kill men to survive. And so in the future, unless he wants to be destroyed by his enemies he needs to be merciless and kill them because this is how things work in this era. It’s only fitting because HS and WS’s story is about acceptance, complete and unconditional acceptance of everything he is.

Aww.. thanks dear!  I love reading other people's analysis as well, because we tend to focus on one thing and missed important details in the process. Thank you so much for adding a whole lot of occasions that clearly shown how kind-hearted wang mu is. He is such a great big brother figure that it was rather unfortunate he was trapped into this game of thrones, surrounded with power hungry people. What's worse no one could back him up and protects him as he has no powerful clan supporting his cause, neither his mother nor his wife came from clan with significant importance. 

IKR. If only he was reborn in 21st century, he would be perfect as your neighbourhood' oppa that always caring and help everyone that needed around him.  I hope he gets a better screentime and we could dug deeper into his character because his backstory feels more important at this stage than his younger sibling (that probably serves more a comedic relief) but maybe we will get that during his reign.

Maybe he hopes the King will be in a good mood after the rain dance. He's not the persistent type so I really don't see him winning him over with his patent good looks. I'm sorry Wook but I think you may have overextended yourself on this one.

Another scene I can't stop replaying while we wait for Monday. I had to slow it down just to savour it all the more... I'm getting giddy with anticipation.

Is better for Wook to kiss Hae Soo next week... if not, game over for Wook. Wang So is ready for the attack.  I still want to see a kiss of WookSoo...their chemistry is really good. But I want the SoSoo romance now.
