I just registered in this forum about 5 minutes ago. This drama really daebak!!! My whole family hook on this drama patiently waiting week after week. My sisters and me cried when we watched last night's episode. Really heart wrenching. As usual, Jung Ki was awesome with his acting skill. I become his biggest fan. I am not very familiar with his drama except My Girl and Arang & Magistrate. But now I started backtracking all his drama and movie.

By the way, I am from Malaysia. Most of my friends I know crazy about this drama too. We are very happy because the rating is high in Malaysia.

So I just finished crying my heart out for Court Lady Oh. I was crying ever since she visited Hae Soo in the jail and that was during 30 something minutes of the episode  I already cried yesterday when I watched the livestream but I still cried a lot today.

I'm blaming Yeon Hwa for all the shitty things that happened in the last 2 episodes. I really really despise her right now 

And for Wook, well I really understand that he needed to choose his family in that situation but I really agree with Lady Oh's last words to him. Wook is a coward and we all know that he would regret all of his decisions in the future.

Well now thanks to Wook, SoSoo is really bound to happen soon and I'm excited for that!!!

 

PS. I miss the presence of our 10th Prince Eun...

yup, his acting in saeguk drama like this always cool and charming. I become his fans too.. LOL..

his first drama I've ever watched also My Girl.. and now I'm started to download scholar who walks the night too..

Just my 2 cents worth on whether Wook has more to lose than So. 

Wook is a gentleman with all the right attributes and makes promises to the moon and back. I have no doubt that he loves Soo and he was caught between a rock and a hard place. But his inertia and wishy washy ways had a big part to play in this tragedy. None of his promises came through. And when Soo needed him, he turned up only to walk away. He should have stayed away or watched from afar. Soo was dispensable when he weighed all his options. Wook's words were worthless, no matter how beautifully he said them. His actions were cowardly and cruel. 

So, on the other hand, is the rebel with a cause. He doesn't make promises much but when he makes one - he follows through. He didn't let her go at any point in Soo's worst moments. He was willing to go to hell for her and with her. Soo is a part of him - indispensable and to be protected at all costs. If his efforts didn't work, he would lose his life and Soo - whom he loves more than himself.

Hence, there lies the difference. Yes - So deserves Soo (whether she deserves him - that's another discussion). But his love for her is so deep and vast - it is enough for me to root for So-Soo couple. So is like Darcy (in Pride & Prejudice) combined with Colonel Brandon (Sense & Sensibility) while Wook is Willoughby (Sense & Sensibility).

I usually just lurk throughout the week liking posts that I agree or like and limits my comments during and after each episode. But last night was an exception, I felt like a lot happened and I have/had too much thoughts about it. I might as well put them all here.

WANG SO: The guy just can't seem to get a break from life. Just before he met his Evil Queen of a mother, his father ordered him to go back to the 1 place he never wanted to be back. Then Evil Queen Yoo tied up his hands after knowing the poison plot for CP. Add to that HS being entangled in the poisoning scheme that he needed to drink almost an entire tea pot. On top of that, HS was the one pouring the poisoned tea  and Evil Queen Yoo could have smirked if she could while witnessing her son's attempt to thwart her plans again. But WS defying all odds makes him the character we all love. He always always works his way around, through at whatever life throws at him.

Ah the prison conversation with HS. In spite of the situation that he and HS are at or the nature of the words they tell each other, I felt like there's some sense of a comfortable conversation between them - that familiarity that HS or WS or both of them don't recognize yet. HS is nagging and WS trying to be indifferent to HS.

And I can't help but compare that with Wook's words to HS when he visited her:  "You are suspected of putting the poison in the tea."  then "However, there is nothing to prove your innocence."  and to add to that "You may be tortured. Even so, Soo, you must survive it."  and of course, we can't forget one of his signature lines "I will get you out of there."

and about SO - WOOK exchange before WS's prison visit, WS trusted WW to the extent of freeing HS even indirectly admitting his helplessness because of Evil Queen Yoo's machinations. But stating it explicitly that he did it not for his Evil Queen of a mother but for HS and CP.

WOOK:  He understand where he was coming from in choosing his family over HS as it has always been the underlying principle of what he has done in the past episodes (killing at 11years old, marrying MH etc.). But until Ep 11, I have always wondered if he truly believed that he could marry HS especially after MH died. I still believed that he didn't put HS in a string and empty promises but he was always unable to take action. (Yes, I had that some sort of belief in WW until about Ep 8)

And how ironic it was that during his investigation, until YH showed her face, one of his lines was "Is a royal family member going to let a court lady die like this?"  and in the end, he was the one to kill the court lady to protect YH and their family.

Another thing is that after denying and being angry about YH's machinations to pave his way to the throne, he ends up being resigned to the fact and letting YH do whatever she wants with him.

KING TAEJO: I remember many many pages back, some asked/commented that one of the difference between the K-ver and C-ver was that in BBJX, the Emperor had greatly admired Rx's character. Now I am kinda thankful already that it that wasn't the case here in SCH. It would have made King Taejo more heartless for me. He chose to sacrifice Soo's small life rather than Crown Prince.

At the same time, the King is indeed a match to Evil Queen Yoo. He wanted to give everything to Crown Prince. Yes, it was glaringly obvious throughout  the past episodes that he favored CP Moo. However, it is heartbreaking for me that he merely sees his other sons as children out of necessity to solidify his political marriages. Irregard of whether he loved or not CP's mother, he definitely considers CP as his son per se.

And how cruel can he get, even anyone who'd help HS will be punished?! Argh, he really is a match for Evil Queen Yoo. At the moment and as far as I have seen, he doesn't deserve Court Lady Oh. Serves him right to lose her in the end.

CROWN PRINCE MOO: He is such as bear of a prince. Sadly, in spite of his war triumphs he does not seem to be an appropriate ruler for Goryeo at their current time. He acknowledges his shortcomings as a Crown Prince and even burdened by it.

COURT LADY OH: Much and many great things has already been said about Lady Oh. As sad as it is, she needed to die to shake up the Palace - Soo in particular. Thank God before she died she gave a piece of her mind to Wook and later on to King Taejo. May her words keep on bugging both of them. Here are some of favorite lines from her.

Even if the King didn't want to hear it, Court Lady Oh had to put it out there. She is a force, no wonder the King loved her even if it wasn't enough and Evil Queen Yoo is still bugged by her presence enough to wish that Court Lady Oh die before her.

Queen Hwangbo:  she may or may not have feelings for the King and knowing the underlying emotions and all surrounding Court Lady Oh's execution, she tried to reason and persuade the King.

Yes, the King and his big announcement that "If anyone takes her side, I will not let that go." and then our Princes,

If our puppy Princes Jung and Baek Ah and big bear Crown Prince Moo can stay under the rain in support of Hae Soo even if the can't approach her

I understood Wook why he couldn't help her and approach her but why why did he have to turn his back on Soo

and then of course Wang So who not only approaches Soo but also shields her from the rain. Contrary to what Baek Ah did, So didn't even attempt to persuade Soo. He was there to support her and her cause, knowing full well what it meant to Soo.

I have never seen the original C-version or finished the Chinese novel, but with the way SHR's plot has so far delivered and shown, I think the execution of the epic rain scene was done nicely in this Korean adaptation. (And I'm not just saying this because of Joongi, but he does look so manly here)

Wow, so much Wook's bashing after episode 11, not that I'll complain about it *ducking from Wook shipper* 

But seriously, I agree with one of the post that said 8th prince character development in Scarlet Heart: Ryeo is much better than in C-version. Maybe because KHN is a great actor that we as the audience know the important point WW start showing his dark side.

About the ending, I'm not sure we will see the same kind with the C-version. 'Cause I don't see the "Love" vibe between HS and the 14th prince that strong enough to make WJ take HS away from the palace. Mine you, will we have a different kind of ending? (that end happily, I hope).

I admiring LJK since My Girl back in 2005. His character for me over shine LDW character and I like his chemistry better with LDH compared to LDW in that series. It's just that his face quite feminine to me that I found him interestingly beautiful. Thankfully, he aware of that and begin his martial art training which I found it useful because he taking up so many sageuk and boy! he knows what works for him. 

Ever since My Girl, I continuously watching his drama and love most of his works specifically Arang and the Magistrate and Joseon gunman. And every time I finished watching,  I have a strong post-withdrawal symptom from his drama and now I'm infected by it again. I need a cure. A.S.A.P

On another note: I wonder how the King will die? I know that they edited the preview to seem like it was Wo Hee that stabs him, but I have trouble believing that (just like how in the preview for ep 11 they didn't show that it was Lady Oh that was hanged and instead sort of implied Hae Soo). 

And Baek Ah is now probably one of my favourite princes (just slightly below So, lol). He's such a big sweetheart and that scene with him standing by So's beside with CP and JM wondering why it was always So that was getting injured was really moving. At least So has one brother always by his side (and now hopefully the CP too)!

Any kind of suffering he goes through now, will be of his own making. If the writer is worth her salt, we will see that unfold. The lines have been drawn on the sand.

And he should suffer... he should have nightmares on a daily basis about how he let an innocent woman go to the gallows.

For the first part, i.e., proving HS’s innocence and stopping her from being killed, YH would have to take HS’s place and Wook’s family would be made traitors/exiled. So Wook selecting his family’s safety > HS’s life is crystal clear and somewhat understandable.

It wouldn’t cause any grave effects to his family like in the first instance (no one dies or is exiled) or any major negative effects to be honest (as his family being looked down upon would simply be a continuation), it would be directly about Wook’s well-being: he might lose face with the king, he might be sent away, he might lose any potential claim to the throne etc. (I understand these would technically weaken his family’s position, however like mentioned above it wouldn’t result in anyone dying or being exiled.)

 

I'm coming round to the idea that Uk's greatest sin isn't cowardice as most are saying... but (to use a very old fashion word) covetousness... or greed.

Uk wants things... a lot of things... but especially respect so he doesn't like to get his hands dirty to get things he wants to. So he plays it safe and plays the waiting game and that allows him to look like the good guy and the peace maker, believing that good things come to those who wait. However, waiting indefinitely is no guarantee of success because life is very unpredictable even in Goryeo. His mode of operation seems to be reactive rather than proactive. That's why he has sleepless nights because he's good at worrying but doing anything until push comes to shove. He then becomes a victim of circumstances and then he plays what is now commonly called, "the victim card".

I don't like the way he moaned and groaned to Su when he proposed to her about his sad life before saying he needed a bit of relief from the trials of life and she was going to be the one to do that.

While I'm not a fan of Yeon Hwa's idea of proactiveness, at least she is doing what she thinks is right to protect her family's interests.

I don't feel particularly sympathetic towards his situation because it is really a culmination of bad choices that he made over time. What happened last night was how it all finally played out and the laws of the universe came to bite him in the rear end.

In some small way I feel that justice was done.

Could someone explain what they think was happening in one scene that's hard to understand?

In the last episode, the maid gives the poison to the other maid, telling her to make sure "that girl" meaning Su serves the tea.  Yeon Hwa is standing veiled in the background and says to the maid, "Don't tell the queen about this".

My understanding then was that she meant don't tell the queen about the poisoning, and Yeon Hwa was acting on her own with the poisoning.  I thought the meeting between Yeon Hwa and the Queen was most likely Yeon Hwa proposing a marriage between herself and So, and guaranteeing her family's support if So was to claim the throne, combining the two families.  Once the Queen agreed, at least outwardly, Yeon Hwa on her own set about poisoning the Crown Prince so that plan could come to fruition.

However, someone pointed out to me that they thought Yeon Hwa was not referring to the poisoning when she said, "Don't tell the queen about this" but to substituting Hae Su as the court lady serving the tea.  That meant that YH and the Queen were in on the poisoning together, but the Queen didn't know about Hae Su getting set up.  (And why would Yeon Hwa want to hide the set up from the Queen?  I'm sure it would just be an added bonus to her...)

What does everyone else think?  How did you interpret what was going on?
