Hi Everyone!

I admit I usually am in Kdrama forums. First time in Cdrama Soompi Forum.

I saw a clip on twitter of our OTP speaking in Korean with a strong Mandarin accent. I giggled and saw there was FOOD PORN. I got hooked.

Then immediately watched 1-8 (even ep 5 with no english subs only Chinese) from 12-4am (I was very late to work yesterday) and last night caught up 9/10 and I want more episodes.

 

@cheekychipmunk_stv and @jewelsc From what I can gather, Li Man in the scene that the ex confronted our ML about not being a good bf. He was always busy, she was alone waiting for him, all her presents from him were chosen by his secretary Li Man. She felt she rather be his secretary to see him more as she barely saw him. Li Man as we saw in that scene had a power trip and loved it when the ML chose her over his ex gf.

 

Totally agree the actress as Li Man is looking older than our ML, I cannot think of them as a plausible couple. I def don't feel vibes from him and she is too much of a maternal figure to ML. Plus she harbors feelings and def had to put our FL into her place nitpicking on her food. I admit the ML with good intentions made it worse when trying to console the FL.  Good for her for being true and honest to her feelings. Li Man under the guise of educating and nitpicking was trying to put our heroine back in her place--she is not educated or worldly enough EVEN if she is her class mate but Shanghai (not France) campus. 

 

I don't know what her current position with ML is now, but Li Man is definitely like the watch dog for his mom the chairman and also she has her own vested interest to control and be aware of everything about the ML. Gross. 

 

Loving the OTP and their chemistry. Cute how the most recent episodes he is not a love sick fool who decides to pursue our FL. Those meals/dinners etc at FL home and the tension were classic tropes but still LOVE THEM! Catching our FL from falling so she lands in  your arms. Both of them moving their face very close to the other to make the latter panic a bit and their awareness of the other is totally heightened. The tension between these two is cute despite the age gap. It is doesn't come off wrong. ML has his immature ways and FL has her mature ways. She is very appealing and charming, you want to take care of her. She is bright, sunny and energetic! To the ML (yes rich and successful world) she brings color and laughter and vibrancy with delicious foods that nourish him, his heart, mind, and soul. She is the balm he has needed. 

 

Despite their many cute false mishaps with his car and she mistaking it for her friend's bf who hurt her. It was hilarious he filmed her enjoying putting flour/noodles in his car. Then later when he gave back her scarf, he realized who she was (after refusing to meet him) . He def upped the ante to make her work hard. But she performed well with the tasting menu to surprise him and even when she was working into the wee hours of the morning. I saw food porn that is more western style food . 

 

Need to find a cdrama cooking one with good food porn. Any suggestions? I used to watch TVB dramas and some a smattering of Taiwanese dramas so any suggestions would be appreciated. I have been watching more Kdramas the last 17 years. So grateful for any suggestions.

He has to finally decide on the young mushroom or old mushroom and see where his real nutrition lies ...business, old cordon bleu  ,  or vibrant beautiful healthy fresh life LOL  . Did you see his mama  , poor guy is still paying back for being her son,  and of course the old mushroom (his secretary) is picked by his mama so he will need to really really change to fit in with the new vibe in his life - eating that corn in his taxi -  his life journey is definitely changing.

Love when ML buying some stuff to make him comfortable in FL home, he address himself as Zhang Wuji while FL as Zhao Min ❤, and said there is no Zhou Zhiruo in his version. (Although I think Li Man will be ZZR in this drama).

I don't normally watch modern Cdramas but I wanted to catch Zhao Lu Si and see what she is like out of costumed dramas (having seen her in ROTR). I must say the ML is more dashing with a moustache than without. For a change, I like a ML who's stumbling, who's not charming the heck out of the gal, who's not sure how to cope with his feelings for her... and as someone put it, yes that he will eventually have to 'fight' for a chance at love. I suspect his mother's failure with romance will be projected onto the son...that the later episodes will see the mother trying to (like the typical Kdrama) 'get rid' of the FL. In fact, Li Man has already done that by giving her a big fat angpow.... let's see what else the mother will do....

 

Edited: I like how GSN holds her head up high (as the 21 year old) in her conversation with LJ, she emits the right airs, she is fighting for her dignity and defending her pride, she is not someone to be reckoned with just because she was born on the other side of town. It is her talent and who she is that deserves to be loved; not her station in life - and that is what the ML fell for. I like that she pushes him to commit, to search in his heart for a decision; to nurture the relationship they have, to hold onto her or to give up for fear that she is not the right FIT for him.

 

I suspect though it's not shown that GSN is the first person to love him for who he is, not his wealth, not his power and his position in society. His achievement oriented mother probably was so busy pursuing her career that he is likely to have grown up without the kind of maternal love, not because she is cruel or abusive but because she was so driven to make it in life. And experiencing the joys of being in relationship with GSN is what completes him. I simply can't wait for the sizzle in their romance, as depicted in the trailer that was released later....

I am also watching this drama, I got caught by the trailer and for me the trailer is better then the drama.  I must be the odd one who watching this drama and has no feelings for the food, but lots of feelings for the main couple

Li Man ... the uptight old hag who was jealous batshit over FL is really just his PA/secretary in the past and now is his biz partner.  Over the years she has become his right hand man whom he trusts and empower to deal with biz dealings and his mother. He is a workaholic who doesn't spend much time with his ex gf and chose his secretary over his gf because his secretary is more useful to him than his gf. So I guess over the years he didn't have any gf since the last n this LiMan is the only woman in his "life" until he met FL. LiMan thought that ML will never have another gf and she is the star of ML life. She feels a sense of ownership over him.The way she controls his PA n now cooks him dinner to compete with FL. His PA ought to be shot.  His 1st loyalty should be towards his boss, ML and not LiMan. Who pays his salary and who he works for directly.

But why did she gave the name as Zhao min to the courier people.for delivery of the iTem?  Is there any inner meaning or just to bring in the HSDS comedy randomly here?

E11 - GSN and LJ are seated on the couch in her apartment. She says, if she were offered to leave him and the price is right, it's a business transaction she would consider. He dares her to repeat what she said. She pursues this topic and says that it just boils down to how much he is worth - the price to leave him would at least be RMB10-20K? LJ is upset, gets up and leaves. GSN gives chase and says she was joking with him. He lifts her up and puts her on the dinner table. He leans forward, looks intensely into her eyes and tells her never to say that again. She puts her arms around his neck, pauses and says OK. A kiss is in the making, it's an intense moment but the whistling kettle spoils that moment. And they both wonder if they should continue or handle the annoying kettle. He asks her if she wants to get down from the table but they both decide that he will carry her into the kitchen. We don't see what happens as they disappear in to the kitchen but she tells him to hold onto her more tightly, to which he readily agrees. And they fiddle about as they try to turn off the fire while he is holding onto her.

 

E12- LJ is carrying GSN onto the bed. She's drunk. She tells him not to leave, and puts her arms around him. As she looks into his eyes, she says "I....." as she leans closer to his face .... "am hungry". It's obviously not what LJ was expecting her to say. He tells her that she drank so much and didn't have anything to eat. We next see him using his scientific timing of cooking instant noodles as GSN waits impatiently. He pours out the excess water from the pot, places it onto the table and says "Wait"....

 

E13 - GSN and LJ are walking up to her apartment. At the door, she turns around and tells him she has arrived and he acknowledges it. It's an awkward moment, and he hands her a bag of vege that he has been carrying for her. As he passes it to her, she grabs onto the handle of the bag, both not letting go. The light in the corridor (which has a motion sensor) goes off at that very moment. They both lean in for a kiss in the darkness and something in her handbag goes off (an alarm clock or something like that). The offensive device is given a good bang on the window sill and then thrown onto the floor. It's hilarious - they are both waiting for the light to go off again. LJ leaves the bag of vege on the window sill and GSN takes off her handbag and leaves it there too. The light goes off again, they lean in for another kiss, and a man (I think the security guard) appears, saying that the motion light is a brilliant idea. And there goes their second attempt at a kiss.

 

E14- GSN is kinda lost in thoughts as she walks in a quiet area, looks like she's heading back to her apartment. She senses someone behind her, turns around to look but doesn't see anyone. But when she faces front again, she sees the Head Chef at work who has been giving her a tough time. He is drunk and is holding onto a glass bottle (probably been drinking from it). He accuses her, LJ and the friend, Trumpet for making life difficult for him (geez), must be something to do with the cooking contest...... In anger, he says I won't let you have it easy either and swings the bottle at her. LJ miraculously appears and blocks the blow for her. The glass bottle smashes against his head but he appears fine, asks GSN if she's ok and tells her to wait for him. He then throws a punch at the Chef's face, who runs off. There is blood streaming down the side of LHJ's face as he turns to GSN and smiles at her.

 

E15 - It looks like LJ has just left a place (presumably sending GSN home?) and he sees CZQ (the 2nd ML) waiting by the side of the walkway for him. LJ asks whether CZQ is waiting for him - the reply is affirmative. CZQ says he has a question for LJ, "What is the nature of your relationship with GSN?" LJ who was walking away, turns back to face CZQ, pauses, and replies "She is my girlfriend." CZQ questions him, "Are you serious about her?" LJ replies "Do I have any reason to kid around Is there any reason why I have to report to you?" CZQ makes his point - as someone who is busy travelling around the world with business, will you have the time to be by her side consistently? LJ sarcastically replies that there is such a thing as an aeroplane, and even if they are worlds apart, it only takes ten plus hours for him to reach her. As long as GSN needs him, regardless of where he is in the world, he will appear at her side. CZQ presses on, "Do you know what GSN's dream is?" LJ hesistates but replies "I will find out in the future, there is plenty of time for me to find out. And it won't just be limited to finding out, I will help her realise her dream." CZQ tries to point out that her dream involves someone to be by her side daily, helping her hone her culinary skills, etc; how sure are you that you can do that?  LJ says is it that difficult? Does it mean that I have to be by her side every day - does it matter, as long as in our hearts, we are in sync (something like that anyway)... CZQ insists that this is LJ's thinking but not GSN's expectations... LJ cuts the whole conversation short and says to CZQ that the point he is making is that he is more suited to be by her side capable of making her happy, isn't that the case? Precisely, CZQ responds. They challenge each other around this point. Ultimately, LJ says you can't be that someone, because I am the one GSN loves and she is mine. CZQ falters and looks away.

E16- It looks like there is a company retreat of sorts? And they are staying in chalets. GSN knocks on the wrong door and finds her uncle, the designer opening it. She then meets MXJ (LJ's assistant) and they both look rather awkward; he says he is looking for his boss for work and she says she was looking for someone to talk to about something. MXJ tells her the boss' room number and she tells him I think where her bestie is? She arrives at chalet 3611 and LJ opens the door, she runs to hug him. He says "I expected you to come" and looks relieved that she is there. She attempts to kiss him but a voice from inside the room rings out. It's Trumpet and I think he says they are waiting for her to join in a game of cards....

Right?, she's only his biz patrner NOT his LEGAL partner and she thinks she got all the 'rights' to control him and his life already, i blamed him tho for leading her on making her think she's 'special' to him.  Now that he finds someone especially special, it will be a 'deja vu' for LiMan but this time she will be in that ex-gf's shoes instead..it'd better be soon becos i want to see more of our OTP and their chemistry, he is so hilarious when he's jealous .

I think it's just to bring HSDS comedy randomly.  I don't think they ever mentioned why GSN address herself as Zhao Min in the first place.

Yes it's been adapted before in 2017 to a movie called 'This is Not What I Expected' starring Zhou Dongyu & Takeshi Kaneshiro.

This is the first time I am writing on a C-drama thread.

 

I rarely watch C-dramas, though I have enjoyed Love Me if You Dare (the only modern C-drama I have enjoyed so far) and Yangxi's palace ( the only period piece I ever managed to finish).

 

I also became interested in this drama though the trailers. I had very little knowledge of the actors going into the drama - though I had heard good things about Zhao Lu Si and her acting in the Romance of Tiger and Rose ( which I tried to watch...).

 

Zhao Lu Si is definitely one of those young gifted actresses. Her comedic timing is spot on, yet her melo acting is just as endearing. I did not even realise there was a big age gap between her and Lin Shen, until a couple of episodes in. She holds herself well with Lin Shen, that I could care less about the age difference. 

 

Lin Shen reminds me of Cha Seung Won...and I certainly find him more attractive with the facial hair. 

 

The one thing I really liked about the drama is the fact that it address the age gap. So often you would have the ML being younger and the female lead a little older than their actual ages - but here - the ML is actually falling for a 21 year old. I find that very refreshing!

 

It is also refreshing to see a FL that knows what she wants. She does not doubt that she is not "good enough for him"  - she likes him and that's pretty much that. 

 

The complexity of this relationship lies with the ML - as someone mentioned above " he is the one that is stumbling". With his image and family background he would be expected to marry well. On top of this him being in a relationship with a much younger women would probably be frowned upon. There would be people thinking that he is just "playing" with her and not actually being serious about the relationship.

 

All in all the first 10 episodes were a fun watch.

I was just trying to determine the $$ worth of LJ before she sells him LOL ...or i see in the trailer that she is willing to look at offers     This writer has me falling in love with FL and the actress is portraying her so genuinely that i think she is worth million of his Ferraris 

 

2 369 255 yuan (if minimal $350 000 price of Ferrari in 2019 LOL ) 

She owed him    130000 yuan = appx $ 19000 US , CAN $ 25000

glad I picked up this drama, for a cheesy romcom to be good it has to be the chemistry between the CP and these two bring it.

LOL  there are some scenes that just crack me up ...i had to go back to ep 5 because of late subbing and i enjoyed her musical performance @20  ...so beautiful and the way she is smiling while playing i find that i would love to have that exact tune to listen to and smile as well ....

and immediately after her expression while she is engulfed in his coat .. LOL
