After a rather distracted viewing of Ep10 It is almost comical the amount of stuff we don't know.

I find the closing shot establishing LDW as the king Wang Yeo curious.

Why?

It isn't as if we wouldn't accept it if they just said he was the king. Most of us had already ran to that conclusion.

What does that shot do?  1) It let us know that the king lived for a while after his original queen and general's death. 2) It let us know that he was not happy.  Kingie looks worried, scared, and somewhat tormented. 

Why switch to LDW instead of the original young king?  Well they might well be doing extended shoot in the ancient world and they young actor is booked.  However I suspect that my previous assumptions made without any information to make an informed guess on was wrong. Whatever make the king into the Grim Weeper wasn't solely based on the execution of Kim Sun and Kim Shin, but had the basis in his later rule. That is the more reasonable explanation for dolling LDW down in period costume.

My quick assumption is that Evil Eunuch kept Wang Yeo away from information and reasoned counsel either by asserting their father-sonlike connection or he controlled him with drugs and ruled in Wang Yeo name because there was no one to oppose him. Goblin came too late to protect Wang Yeo as he had promised to do and Evil Eunuch had probably installed a new king after Wang Yeo's death.

Questions

1) What happened in the nation and at court between General Kim Shin's death and Goblin's resurrection? 

2) How does reincarnation and facial features work. Kim Shin and Wang Yeo have their original facial features; they were not reincarnated.  Sunny does not, she was reincarnated.

3) Are Dancing Secretary and Evil Eunuch the same soul or just the same face? If they are not the same soul, why is the creative team messing with us and robbing another actor of a job?  @happypuppy @Cayu18 pointed out to me that the roles are played by different actors. This lessen the strength of my point, but the characters echo each other in ways that may or may not be significant.  Eunuch Park position with the Young king is more intense but similar to Secretary Kim and Duk Hwa [guidance and control]   

4) The fact that Dancing Secretary has been given deep secrets to keep means his relations to Kim Shin goes deep. So if they are one on the same, a Dancing Evil Eunuch Secretary did the Evil Eunuch escape being punished by the gods?  We/I assume when the Goblin killed him he was still evil. We know he is not a supernatural being because grew up with Kim Shin's support, so he was reincarnated? [Or is there another mythological process I am unfamiliar with?] The fact that Secretary Kim and Eunuch Park are played by different actors doesn't fully remove the possibility of a connection between the characters in my mind. The structure of the actors face as so similar that they could easily pass for brothers.  Sunny does not actually look like the queen but way the drama is shot the shape of their faces look very much the same, but still not as similar as  Eunuch Park and Secretary Kim.

I'm just curious why the casting  of Eunuch Park and Secretary Kim was done that way if it has no story significance.

USA casting directors are usually careful not to have actors who look too similar be cast in the same project (unless there is a point to it) for fear of confusing the audience.  So if they cast two blonde actress who are similar types they will ask that one or both make a change to create more visual distance between them.  When a series of white women are cast the almost required to differentiate on the basis of hair:  Friends: black/brunette, high blonde and a dirty brownish blonde, Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Blonde, Red head, Brunette.  Actresses will play with their hair color when they audition. If they know the lead is blonde they will change their color so as to complement and not compete visually.

These observations/questions are not meant to be  a part of a big theory of any kind of how the mystery will unravel.  They are just sharing of stuff I've noticed.

Supaliaxpress on Tumblr wrote an excellent post that has me thinking about the importance of sincerity and KS's evolving response to the summonings and his relationship with ET. Well worth the read and I wouldn't wish to poorly relay Supaliaxpress' ideas. Springboarding off those thoughts though, I think it's also significant every time ET summons KS or even when he searches her out, he always appears behind her. So, in ep 9, when he ensures that when she first sees him he is beside or in front of her - whether that be on the slope, in the woods or at the top of the ski-lift - it doesn't only represent KS taking the initiative, it's also him saying he wants to be part of ET's present and future as well as her past. He wants to be what ET sees before her, always, which ties in nicely with his uber-sweet 80 year loan plan! KS has had the most beautiful progression - from a death-seeker to fearful in love; from fearful in love to wanting to live secretly in/with that love; to finally forsaking the mushy middle ground and reaching for a living future with ET, openly, happily in love.  

Many have cited KS's last action as a human - approaching the king - as foolhardy or prideful or even wrong. Myself, I've leaned towards prideful but I never considered it wrong. I thought it was the only honorable option left on the table, the one that asked for reason and mercy in the face of injustice, and how could that be wrong? The King was on a bad path and under an evil influence, unable to tell friend from foe and killing people purely on one man's hearsay. When KS approached the King time slowed because it was a momentous moment. Maybe the (after)life KS could have saved if he had succeeded was not just his own but the King's as well? We'll never know. But reading that post and thinking about sincerity, I'm even more convinced KS wasn't wrong. His action was no different from the human who found the tea shop door in his desperation or the desperate pregnant woman who sincerely begged a god for help. It was impossible. Technically, on its face, it should not have worked but sometimes sincerity and desperation can empower a person and make the impossible possible. Sometimes it falls short - as it did with KS in the past; perhaps because he was dealing with the fallible (the King) instead of with the infallible (the divine)? Perhaps because KS had a larger fate awaiting him, the fate of a goblin who helps many lives? Whichever the case may be, successful or not, choosing sincerity matters and I no longer doubt KS was sincere in his actions.

What is with this show and always making us cry? I cry every other ep now. My eyes were open faucets during the school ghost scene. I was a goner the moment she told ET that she and ET's mom used to laminate stuff too. I felt this powerful continuity between women and friends, mothers and daughters. Fantastic. This time when ET cried and spoke to her mom by the edge of the sea, she could laugh too, and be thankful, thanks to the school ghost and KS.  The otp's entire tipsy session was amazing. Just laughing and exchanging kisses. I love GY's hands! When a guy cups a girl's face like that before and after kissing, I die!  KS's moment of realization over ET's necklace was so beautiful and sad too, since he's ensuring that even if his plan to find an alternate fate fails, something of him will always remain with ET, memory or no memory.  

When I think of how intricately this show is plotted... It's just so great! Those Quebec shots had to be filmed during their one visit there and you expect the big moments to be captured - the otp sightseeing or the otp dinners, but KS in flip flops casually roaming Quebec is a tiny detail they could have fudged (just have him disappear behind a door) but didn't. Love!

@hushhh I personally think that the dancing secretary was the evil eunuch that was reincarnated with different face. This will be an excellent surprise/gesture from the writer. If all reincarnated with exactly the same face, what is the fun? There will be no CSI work like we have been doing so far.

But now, my heart is aching OH IT HURTS SO MUCH THAT THERE WILL BE ONLY 6 EPISODES LEFT!!!

Park Joong-Won's character the Eunuch is played by Kim Byung-Chul and Secretary kim is played by Jo Woo-Jin.

I doubt they are the same soul. But they are definitely not the same face. I kept wondering why people kept mentioning the two characters together. I guess people mixed them up.

they showed us Wang Yeo with Grim Reaper's face for 100% confirmation that he's the reancarnation of the King!! and the ,ice secretary IS NOT the same soul NOR face of the evil eunch!! the evil eunch is protayed by actor Kim Byung Chul while the nice secretary is portrayed by actor Jo Woo Jin!! and if the King got reincarnated as a Gripm Reaper for his sins of killing Kim Shin and the Queen wrongfully that evil eunch should be reincarnated as a cockroach that will never return to its human look and live like that for eternity!!  (that's my wish though )  and apparently the nice secretary was also one of the people who were saved by Kim Shin as he was thankful to him when Kim Shin thanked him for growing well just like he (Kim Shin) told the old man who he saved when he was a kid!!

Edit: Kim Shin was revived so he's not a reincarnation to begin with, Wang Yeo was 16-17 years old the last time Kim Shin saw him before his death and died before Kim Shin bein able to see him in his adult appearance (Lee Dong Wook) and then got reincarnated as the Grim Reaper we know but Kim Shin couldn't recognise him because he never saw the King's adult face as I said and same goes for Sunny who died as a Queen at a young age and never had to grow up to look the way we know her with after being reincarnated and as an adult right now!!

You are right.  I was confusing them. 

I didn't know Evil Eunuch name before episode 10.  The actors' faces have very similar architecture.  See spoiler. I accounted for the difference in appearance to make-up and the differences in look from the different time period and the actors choice in delineating different characters.

What I love from KES writer nim are all the cheesy lines but make my heart dugun-dugun. I adore KS-ET relationship, they are uber cuteeeee

1. When ET asks KS to go out, he says "I'll do anything you want" with that face, aaaaah, the feels is so real but then ET just wants drink soju 

2. The Kiss : It's their first kiss, so our Master Gongyoo put it lightly on the scene but still tender yet beautiful kiss, the moment when ET kissed him back, AAAAAAWWW I love their expresion.

3. In the morning when ET blows KS hand after being touched by GR, OOOMAAAGAAAAH, He's so smitten by ET, and the way ET tells him to being 1 year older hahahaaa, who's older than who.

 

The most cracking scene : Fashion Show at the tunnel while bringing a plastic bags of green onions. LOL LOL LOL

When GR and Sunny met so she can give him the ring back i realized they started to talk almost normally...seems their relationship starts to go somewhere 

That scolar killed all family members of the young king  and made a child to be king for his own greed ....i'm speachless...to bad last king's will young king should marry GB's sister messed his plans...and even worse that young king was afraid, jealous and blind to see whats old man doing

Just wondering, how old was kim shin when he died? Thinking about it, that's his age. He just lived another 900++ years without aging.

I just hopped on the goblin bandwagon. Watched 8 episodes back to back
