Trolley: Episodes 9-10

by missvictrix

Trolley0910_1.jpg

The plot thickens as we deal with big themes like betrayal, sacrifice, and trust. With a big decision made — and a lot of foreshadowing around impending betrayals both large and small — just how much trust is between our couple, and are we wrong to count on it?

EPISODES 9-10 WEECAP

Trolley: Episodes 9-10

We open up with the big reveal from last week, and see Hye-joo utterly distraught. The death of Ji-hoon was tragic enough, but now that she’s learned it was a suicide, her heart breaks even more. When she passes out and winds up in the hospital, Joong-do runs to her rescue and they’re forced to confront the truth.

I hate seeing them grieving yet again, but I’m glad there was a simple explanation to everything. Joong-do lied about the lost cellphone and kept it hidden simply because he didn’t want Hye-joo to find out that it was suicide (I say “simply” because I was worried there was something more nefarious going on).

The photos on Ji-hoon’s old phone confirm that he was dating Soo-bin (well, enough to convince me), but now that they finally have proof that she wasn’t lying about their relationship, she’s gone. Soo-bin disappears from the house. Hye-joo is more anxious than ever to connect with her, but it’s not hard to see that everyone else is a bit relieved.

Woo-jae says they’ll be able to spin the situation well even if Soo-bin returns to blackmail them later. Joong-do — whose strong antipathy now makes sense — is more than glad she’s gone. He tell Hye-joo that he blames Soo-bin for their son’s suicide, and then in the same breath says that it’s nothing like her own case, where she’s definitely not responsible. This scene troubled me, and this recurring theme in the drama also troubles me.

Soo-bin might be out of their house and our main plot, but we now follow her more closely and learn a few important things: her mother cruelly abandoned her as a child (and now works at Innisfree lol); her mother was the one that gave her that lip balm (*my heart*); and as Woo-jae once suspected, she was indeed some kind of escort. Or, at the very least, involved with a shady group that offers call girls to politicians. Lovely.

It’s a small world in this drama, though, and the only thing closer than all the interwoven characters is the interwovenness of their stories — and that only continues this week. The prostitution ring (although I don’t really know if we can call it that yet) is also connected to our story in another way besides Soo-bin: Perilla Grandma’s granddaughter SOL is revealed to have been a part of it as well.

This, of course, is a huge bombshell, and we hear it from the med student’s grieving parents. They’re ashamed their son was involved with a sex worker and they don’t want it to get out — they’re weary of the public’s rancor and I can’t blame them. When news of this gets to the press anyway, it turns the tide of the story again, and Joong-do loses not only his hero status but the leverage that particular case was going to give his amendment.

I really hope it wasn't Joong Do that outed wifey like that LoL! Not after what he promised damn it. I believed in you hot ahjusshi LoL.

Yoon Seo really hates adultery, you'd think she was venting out of personal experience ahah. Her hatred for Ji Hoon is .. very caring of a sibling. Not LoL.

What is up between Yeo Jin & Woo Jae? Yeo Jin look haggard & messy with hair down. I have a sneaky suspicion that Ji Hoon's seedy friend is the actual baby daddy of Soo Bin's kid(?)

I think WJ is trying to make sure YJ toes the party line.  To keep KHJ in the dark about certain things eg miscarriage.  Or to use YJ’s influence to coax KHJ to align herself with NJD’s political agenda to help further his cause.

I am still not sure if JH’s friend is the baby’s daddy.  It looked like JH was trying to protect/shield her from his friend in the flashback.  When said friend asked JH if he had seen SB recently and JH replied no.  It looked more like JH and SB had hooked up, hence JH’s distress when she told him she wanted to break up with him.  So baby is more likely JH’s?

I think he’s trying to catch up to speed about all the events so far.  I am not sure where he fits into the picture.  Was he the guy who got JH to deal with drugs?  But he did sound pissed that NJH got SB pregnant and seemed to keep him in the dark about their relationship.  I guess we’ll find out more next week.

I'm behind again :bawling:  I've only watch 30 min of ep 9, so I skipped comments on ep 10 for now.

******

I'm still so touched whenever I see NJD tenderly holding KHJ's hand at the hospital after she collapsed.  He's in a tough position serving his constituency, aspiring to a higher office while also trying to be  supportive to his family.  I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed that the writers have made KHJ weak.  Yes, she's dealing with a lot, but she just collapses whenever there's some bad news.

Now, I'm feeling sorry for SB.  Her mother is just awful.

Gotta stop so I can see NJD's abs

LMFAo! @Li22.55 WoW u actually watched the eps. just fr reading my post? I never thought I was that influential ahah , good for u though.

It's just really rare to see a married cp (especially in k-dramas) be so lovey dovey.. hot & heavy after many years of marriage. I've only seen such displays of affection on western tv.

The only other hot & heavy cp in K-Drama I can think of is Lee Jun Ki , Moon Chae Won in "Flower of Evil". Even in their interviews, fans commented it was unrealistic that married cps are so passionate LoL.

After many years of bein' married, the most affection they give is a peck or hug ; not a makeout ha-ha!

On Ji Hoon's friend.. he did sound like he was crushing on Soo Bin in flashback and was upset she ended up with Ji Hoon instead of him. Hence the "I would have killed him myself". I just have this sneaky suspicion he was the one that knocked up Soo Bin somehow LoL.

I think you are right about WJ and YJ.  I also wonder whether there was a deal between YL and SB.  YJ provided SB with money and asked her to leave the Nam household.  They were hiding something from KHJ.  What was the fact that WJ and YJ tried to hide?   It was supposed to be something more damaging than miscarriage.

The warm interactions bwtween NJD and Daughter made me worried.  it is a foreshadow of something. What is that?  The writer is good at misleading audience, though. LOL In Episode 1, we were led to believe that the Daughter was missing, but it turned out to be the Son.  The writer made us to think that NJD injured his rib from the car accident, but it was not. LOL

Finally, someone mentioned that JH knew SB since he was a son of a congressman. It may be true!  JD, SB and the gang were in the blackmail business. They may have targeted JH to blackmail his dad.  However, the plan went wrong since JH fell in love with SB unexpectedly. SB tried to break up with JH because of pressure from the other members.

BTW, I saw a message at the KHJ Taiwan saying that there will be no new Trolley episodes next week due to the holidays of Lunar New Year.  Episodes 11 will be broadcasted on Jan 30.

Finally, finished ep 9!

If SH isn't careful, she's going to lose KY.  I think he's given her some leeway because he understands, witnessing first hand, how the mother treats her.

I have to say, that it was pretty clever of NJD to have WJ filming the former getting beaten up by the med student's parents.

PS:  I thought I'd see more abs!  No zoom in?  I sat watching and thinking--that's it?:joy:

Happy Lunar Year to all!  I am enjoying this fun and intelligent forum.

There are good news!  Trolley has entered the Top 10 list in Netflix Korea.

In addition, Actress Kim Hyun Joo released a clip to wish all happy new year.  She mentioned "enjoy trolley".

Actually i'm a bit relieved because after the eps where YS and her classmate visited NJD workplace, when NJD adressed SooDam name and she blushed.. it gave uneasy feeling.. however, as the eps going on it seemed that SooDam admiration was just she's shy to meet a popular person and that person surprisely knew her name?

And, since SooBin was not having affair with NJD, would the writer make point on "adultery" again for us the audience to keep torturing us  LOL (since we root for the 'midle age' couple to go hotter until the end.. why else than PHS would go to the gym only to show his small part of abs and not more than a second.. hahahaaa.. maybe save it for much later eps eh.. hahahaaa..

But, we couldn't ignore the way YS argued with her friend and unintentionally might hurt SooDam feeling with her argument that adultery was the worst of the worst case as well .

PS : have u guys knew that beside Trolley, KHJ and PHS would have another drama titled The Bequeathed , as a netflix series.. maybe after Trolley end.. wondee though whether they'd be paired up again or not as a couple .. hope so if any that Trolley doesn't have satisfying ending LOL

Does anyone else think that Soo Bin had an affair with Choi Ki Young.  Wasn’t she “stalking” him in an earlier episode?

well was it not established earlier that Soo Bin earned her keep with sexual favors? Choi Ki Yung's wife, Seung Hee left him for months to live in Canada while Ki Yung had to live with his abusive greedy in law. So, it is possible that something did happen between the 2. But why would Ki Yung tolerate a bitter wife who wants attention from a mother who belittles and humiliates her and abandons him for months?

Anyhow, I just finished marathon viewing the drama. This is something that happens or could happen where many abused women are not given the proper legal means for redress but instead ostracized. I like that NJD is making this his agenda to pass laws that protect women and give them the rights to pursue for reparation although it seems it is going to be tough since it has been introduced in the assembly before but was voted down and never passed into law and JD's family is wracked with scandal which his opponents take advantage of and he also uses dishonest means to protect his position and his agendas. Now Seunhee returns to Korea and blames Hye joo for how her mother treats her discounting the fact that her mother always favored the son more than the daughter even when they were young. Seung Hee and no backbone Ki Yung are wanting HJ to face the mother to apologize thinking that the mother will put all her frustrations, her anger at the death of her son on HJ and will treat them better? The fact is Seunghi has always been the less favored child because she was not a son and will she really accept an apology. Will Lee Yoo Shin want the sins of her son be known publicly? I think that Seunhee's actions will backfire on her big time when the real character of her brother and hence her family will publicly be known. Her mother's reactions towards Seunghee may make Seunghee finally realize that she was always second hand to her brother.

Hye Joo and Joong Do's family are wracked with scandal started with the son who committed suicide and with a bag of drugs in his person and now Hye Joo's past is coming to roost. How will this family's bond be strengthened and stay together as JD tries to champion for laws protecting abused women and be able to withstand the political wrangling to defame and ruin his family and political career? What path for the trolley will JD chose, whom will he sacrifice?

Thumbs up for the creators of the drama.

I think that KHJ has post traumatic stress. What happened to her long ago was so traumatic and she had no means nor help and had to deal with it as best as she could by running away and locking the trauma of her past in her psyche vault. The fact that she was able to leave town, learn a profession, get a job and move on after what happened to her for me is remarkable. But that part of her past was never really addressed. She tried to compensate by doing what she knew best, being a giving person. There was always fear behind all her actions. I am not surprised that with her hidden past coming to roost that she would psychologically and physically collapse, but I would have thought that given her past that she would be less trusting of others and their intentions such as the young man who claims to have been her son's friend. I like that this drama tells the stories of all these damaged human beings, women and children and how they deal with it imperfectly as imperfect human beings.

Misunderstanding is common in every single K-Drama ahah. Ji Hoon's "friend" gaslighted Soo Bin to now charge Ji Hoon of sexual assault. Honestly, he's more like her pimp. Why did she say "let's break up" then like they were in a relationship LoL?

Hye Joo I hope will take Yoon Seo's advise. Seung Hee's mom continues to be oh so "entertaining" tsk.tsk. Ki Young missed his timing LoL. He's now stuck with Seung Hee's mad family for life.

I knew that obese, pervy, ol'fart at the sauna was up to no good. Joong Do's famous lines are, "I'll take care of this" & "You trust me, right?" LoL. When the scene panned over to Yeo Jin it scared me ahah. With her hair hanging loose yikes.
