tvN has shared a behind-the-scenes clip for the first two episodes of “Doom at Your Service”!

“Doom at Your Service” is a fantasy romance drama about a supernatural being named Myul Mang (Seo In Guk), who causes everything he touches to vanish, and a woman named Tak Dong Kyung (Park Bo Young), who puts her life on the line to avoid her fate.

As the video starts, the drama director personally shows Park Bo Young how he’d like her to act drunk. She comments, “When I see it, it all looks so easy. But it’s not!” As she gets ready to shoot, he ensures her that hitting her head on the table won’t hurt that much and Park Bo Young retorts, “Director, you did it lightly!”

Later, Park Bo Young and Seo In Guk are rehearsing outdoors. As they practice finding natural movements, the two nonchalantly begin walking backwards to create a rewind scene, but Seo In Guk eventually steps on Park Bo Young’s feet. They watch the clip back and Park Bo Young excitedly comments, “We accomplished this difficult Hollywood acting!”

Kim Ji Suk then appears on set to film his cameo appearance as Tak Dong Kyung’s ex-boyfriend Jo Dae Han. He announces himself as Chan Hyuk who is filming “My Unfamiliar Family,” making Park Bo Young jokingly comment, “He’s just going to use it like that? He’s not even going to come and just shout it out, but he’s going to use it like that?” The actor flaunts a passionate and impressive performance, earning praise and cheers from the cast and crew.

Park Bo Young and Seo In Guk then film a quiet scene where Myul Mang heals Tak Dong Kyung’s wound. Although the treatment is done with computer graphics (CG), the two film the scene with ease. Later, Seo In Guk puts earmuffs on in the cold weather, which Park Bo Young does not notice until they start filming, causing her to have to hold in her laughter.

Doom at Your Service: Episode 1

by quirkycase

DaYS01-00956.jpg

I’ve been eagerly awaiting tVN’s latest fantasy romance Doom at Your Service mostly because it means seeing Seo In-gook and Park Bo-young every week, and who doesn’t want that? Despite the drama’s rather dire premise, the premiere episode was fun and upbeat. After having the absolute worst day you’ve ever seen, our heroine finds doom literally knocking at her door with an offer she may not be able to refuse. And not just because she’s entranced by doom’s handsome face, although it certainly doesn’t hurt.

EPISODE 1

TAK DONG-KYUNG (Park Bo-young) sits in a doctor’s office and stares blank-faced while he tells her she has multiple brain tumors. When he says she’ll need to be admitted for a week for a biopsy and examination, Dong-kyung says that’s a no go; she can’t take that much time off work.

Exasperated, her doctor explains she’ll only live for another three or four months without surgery. Even if she has surgery and lives another year, it’ll be tough on her due to all the symptoms. The biopsy itself can be dangerous.

Dong-kyung asks if she’s going to die. He says yes. She takes that in and stands calmly. Then she hands him an event plan for “Doctor King Yeomra” and peppily asks him to kindly send his episodes in on time, although she knows he’s busy.

It turns out he’s also a writer, and she’s his editor. She says he seemed like a “real doctor” today (which he is) and thanks him for getting her in early for an MRI. He’s at a loss as she smiles, wishes him luck, and leaves like he didn’t just give her earth-shattering news.

Dong-kyung walks through the hospital in a daze and bumps into someone wearing a white doctor’s coat. She looks up at his face and stares in awe until MYEOL-MANG (Seo In-gook) says with a smile, “I know I’m handsome, but I’m busy.” Pfft.

tvN has released a behind-the-scenes clip for episodes 1-2 of “Doom at Your Service”!

“Doom at Your Service” is a fantasy romance drama about a supernatural being called Myul Mang (Seo In Guk), who causes everything he touches to vanish, and a woman named Tak Dong Kyung (Park Bo Young), who puts her life on the line to avoid her fate.

The behind-the-scenes clip begins with the scene in which Myul Mang invades Tak Dong Kyung’s workplace while pretending to be a writer. Park Bo Young has to convey her character’s frustration and annoyance while Seo In Guk gets to enjoy the scene as he laughs and teases his co-star.

The next scene shows the two characters at a café where Myul Mang grabs Dong Kyung’s hand. This simple scene takes a long time to rehearse, with Seo In Guk and Park Bo Young spending several minutes talking about the best way for him to grab her hand. In the end, the two actors even end up switching seats to make the movement more natural. The director also asks the actors to pay attention even to the placement of their fingers to make the grabbing motion more intimate and romantic.

Seo In Guk continues to tease Park Bo Young from the sidelines as she films a photo-taking session. Later, during the bridge scene, the two continue to rehearse the smallest details of their characters’ dialogue and actions, although Seo In Guk again teases Park Bo Young about having to change her shoes to make up for their height difference.

The preview for Episode 3 is FIRE.

"Annyeong brother in law" LMAoo.

Damn SIG is delivering and PBY is too cute. I love these two together, even when they are at odds, or maybe because they are?

Also I just noticed the goddess is also the FL in Imitation.

Whatever Dong Kyung answer might be, her choice always ends up being Myul Mang - her own doom in this very moment or having the Doom at her service for the next 100 days before her ultimate destruction. Her every choice leads her to him as her choice can only be him not only because of who Myul Mang is by nature but because she already chose him as he became her wish, literally being her wish personified. (I really like the English translation here because it adds even more meaning to DK’s wish since when taken literally, it’s her asking for Myul Mang/Doom to enter her life/world.)

At the same time, Myul Mang has his own choice to make whether to fulfil Dong Kyung’s wish or not - becoming the Doom at her service or her Doom now - and he decides to go through with it. Considering that his main gripe about his existence is that he’s been ruled by fate the whole time without having any choice in it, it’s no wonder he literally jumps at the opportunity to finaly make a decision about himself and have a say in his  “life”.

So, in the end, despite all the talk about fate, it comes down to a choice for both Dong Kyung and Myul Mang. Their choice is symbolized and highlighted by the place where they make it - when the time stops they choose each other on a crossroad, walking away side by side, holding each other’s hand as Myul Mang reverses the time and leads Dong Kyung away from the danger.

There is something about the way Myul Mang offers her hand to Dong Kyung, her on her knees, looking up to him, reaching out to him as if in supplication, a plea for help, and him taking her hand that visually reminds you of Michaelangelo’s Creation of Adam, since Myul Mang could be considered a lesser deity. However, what makes you feel so much about it is the human connection, two beings making a bond, touching each other on more levels than one and intertwining their fates together by choice.

The moment he pulled her up, literally raising her up whe she fell in more ways than one was so damn romantic, poignant and swoonworthy and it was when I became obssesed with this show. Frankly, even without the brilliant writing, this drama could be carried on Park Bo Young and Seo In Guk’s chemisry alone which is truly out of this world.

White Truck of Doom lol but it was well utilized here. Just watched the two episodes and it’s great. Happy to see SIG back (we have the same hair color at the moment lol) and his chemistry with PBY is excellent. I think the balance of world building, humor, heart and with some thought provoking lines made me already invested in this drama. I just hope it doesn’t turn into a melodrama!! Sigh the waiting until new episodes....

super love this drama. awesome characters with no overacting. beautiful plot. great use of philosophical questions. very melancholic setting. it has been two weeks since I lost my dad and the grieving almost drove me mad. my dad hates my kdrama addiction, but where do I run to for comfort? this just seems to be the perfect story to pull me out of reality into the safety of fantasy.

Doom at Your Service: Episode 2

by quirkycase

DaYS02-00041.jpg

Our heroine has officially entered into a contract with doom, but she finds herself unprepared for the consequences of this supernatural deal. Doom begins taking an interest in his human client who is dealing with more than her fair share of challenges. As they spend time getting to know each other, they begin to realize they might have more in common than they first assumed.

EPISODE 2

DaYS02-00001.jpg

Dong-kyung takes Myeol-mang’s hand and lets him help her up. As they cross the street, time rewinds to before the incident. Myeol-mang warns her not to let go of his hand if she wants to live.

They sit in a café, still holding hands, and Dong-kyung tries to find a polite way of asking what the heck he is. Myeol-mang reminds her of all the impossible things she’s witnessed him do, but Dong-kyung is struggling to accept the truth.

Myeol-mang sighs and causes a power outage. When Dong-kyung says it could be a coincidence, he powers off every cell phone in the café. “Ah, so is your identity related to electricity?” Ha.

He scoffs and pointedly looks out the window. Dong-kyung gapes as several comets shoot across the sky. Myeol-mang returns everything to normal when she asks, but he cautions that he’s not a good person.

Myeol-mang is alerted to the impending death of a man in prison and gets up to leave, but Dong-kyung is reluctant to let go of his hand after his warning. He covers her wrist with his other hand, leaving a bracelet made of red thread.

With this, he’s fulfilling his promise to make her dying days painless. But to ensure she doesn’t run away, she has to “recharge” it every day before midnight by holding his hand. He reminds her to choose her one wish and walks off.

tvN’s new drama “Doom at Your Service” has released new stills of Seo In Guk and Park Bo Young!

“Doom at Your Service” is a fantasy romance drama about a supernatural being named Myul Mang (Seo In Guk), who causes everything he touches to vanish, and a woman named Tak Dong Kyung (Park Bo Young), who puts her life on the line to avoid her fate.

When Tak Dong Kyung finds out that she has only 100 days left to live, she angrily calls for the world to be ruined—which unexpectedly brings the supernatural Myul Mang, whose name is the literal Korean word for “ruin” or “destruction,” to her doorstep.

Spoilers

The beginning of the drama followed Tak Dong Kyung, who learned that her days were numbered, putting her life at stake as she entered into a contract with Myul Mang. At the end of the second episode, Tak Dong Kyung then gave viewers a shock as she suggested to Myul Mang that they live together.

The new stills are drawing attention as they show both Tak Dong Kyung and Myul Mang in school uniforms. Tak Dong Kyung’s hairstyle adds another layer of youth to her appearance as a high school student, while Myul Mang gives off an aura of effortless charm in his uniform.

What’s more, Myul Mang appears to be Tak Dong Kyung’s savior as he catches a ball that was flying toward her head. The result is something straight out of a romance movie, with Myul Mang swiftly appearing to protect Tak Dong Kyung as she shrinks away in fright. When Myul Mang searches her face to see if she’s okay, Tak Dong Kyung looks back at him with a wavering expression, making viewers even more curious about the situation.

First Impressions: “Doom At Your Service” Is A Poetic Mix Of Tragedy And Charm

tvN’s newest drama is here to brighten up our Mondays! “Doom at Your Service” could be mistaken for a take on “Goblin,” but the show sets itself apart very, very quickly. There’s less of a sense of portentous doom (haha) and more a feel of world-weariness. Our hero and heroine are tired of a world that grows increasingly cruel by the day. But when a drunken wish brings them together, they find joy in life for the first time, even though their days are numbered.

Here’s what we loved about the first couple of episodes!

Warning: spoilers for episodes 1-2 below.

1. The central idea: fate is cruel

c51c27f577b12656598eef01092befaaf3de6a10

“Doom at Your Service” hits the ground running with its world-building, and there’s an undeniable poetry to it.

From the first moment we’re introduced to our hero Myeol Mang (Seo In Guk), he’s busy preventing the death of a killer who tried to end his life to avoid taking responsibility for his actions. The mythology in this show centers around the idea of action and consequences, of everything having a cost. At one point, Myeol Mang informs Tak Dong Kyung (Park Bo Young) that her every choice to gain something resulted in her losing something. It appears this idea of inherent balance will be the heart of the show. The gods embody this duality. Myeol Mang is destruction, death, and all things humans fear personified and he clearly hates it, whereas Sonyeoshin (literally meaning “female deity”) (Jung Ji So) is life and everything humans love.

While Myeol Mang is able-bodied, Sonyeoshin is a frail young girl with a heart condition. That is the price, she tells Myeol Mang, of their existence. She suffers physically and he suffers emotionally.

Jung-Ji-So.gif

Also prevalent in the first couple of episodes is this idea of Sonyeoshin as a gardener, with this world and its people as her garden. Myeol Mang is the butterfly that touches each flower, each person. It’s a pretty analogy, but the reality is that Myeol Mang is reviled. There’s no one who is grateful for destruction or happy when bad things happen. That goes for Myeol Mang himself, no matter what he does, something bad happens. And if he does nothing, the world’s scales demand to be evened and so even worse things happen than if he did something.

It’s this idea of life as suffering and that even the deities suffer. It’s a cruel existence and it’s interesting that this show chooses to found its mythos on the idea of cruel fate.

2. Myeol Mang himself: a depressed god of destruction who yearns for death but can’t die

What makes Myeol Mang so refreshing and takes him beyond the usual trope of deities falling in love with a human girl (see “Bride of the Water God,” “Goblin,” and “Tale of the Nine-Tailed“) is that Myeol Mang’s depression goes beyond everyday weariness. He resents his existence and the fact that he will bring doom and destruction everywhere, everyday forever. But he’s also inherently selfless. Myeol Mang could choose to do nothing and let the world go to hell. Yet, he knows the consequences, and after trying once (and it’s pretty clear that attempt was more out of trauma than pettiness) he keeps going about – living, breathing, attempting to smoke – when all he brings about is evil.

But when he hears Dong Kyung’s wish, for the first time, Myeol Mang thinks of himself. Here’s someone thinking the same thing he is. If there are no humans, then there’s no reason for him to exist. He can finally fade into nothingness and doesn’t have to suffer. So on the one day he can grant a human’s wish, his birthday, he decides he’s going to end everything so he can be free. But upon meeting this human, he finds her delightful. It’s so clear that he’s fascinated by how she’s not begging for her life or wanting to win the lottery. If anything he promises her another wish on top of her wish to end the world if she just hurries up and wishes to end the world once her 100 days are up!

There also seems to be something to Myeol Mang’s past as Sonyeoshin says he gave up on the world. He’s quite bitter but also hungers for connection and affection in his own way. Imposing a truly ridiculous condition like requiring Dong Kyung to hold his hand to “recharge” and “ensure she doesn’t break her contract” is one adorable way he shows it! The man is fascinated by her and it shows!

3. Dong Kyung: the heroine who just doesn’t care

Dong Kyung could be a typical Candy-esque role, but her weariness and practical attitude toward life and death set her apart. She’s not super cheerful and a go-getter; she’s sick of it all! She takes her own funeral portrait in advance! She has all the hallmarks of depression: no ambition, no dreams, just going through life because she has to. But Myeol Mang turns that all upside down.

tvN’s Monday-Tuesday drama “Doom at Your Service” gave a peek at a romantic moment between Lee Soo Hyuk and Shin Do Hyun!

“Doom at Your Service” is a fantasy romance drama about a character named Myul Mang (Seo In Guk), who causes everything he touches to vanish, and a woman named Tak Dong Kyung (Park Bo Young), who puts her life on the line to avoid her fate. After going through life without any grand goals, Tak Dong Kyung suddenly receives the diagnosis that she only has 100 days to live. She calls for doom (myul mang) of the entire world, but instead is found by Myul Mang.

Lee Soo Hyuk plays Cha Joo Ik, Tak Dong Kyung’s co-worker at the editing office of a web novel publishing company called Life Story. Shin Do Hyun takes the role of Na Ji Na, a web novelist at Life Story who is Tak Dong Kyung’s best friend and Cha Joo Ik’s love interest.

On May 17, the drama unveiled new stills that preview Cha Joo Ik and Na Ji Na’s blossoming romance. In the photos, Na Ji Na is sitting on the stairs by herself, and she is soaked from the rain. Her shoulders are slumped in sadness, and her expression is shadowed with loneliness. Cha Joo Ik hands her an umbrella, and his deep eyes are filled with warmth and gentleness as he gazes down at her.

Then out of nowhere, Cha Joo Ik and Na Ji Na share a kiss in the rain. It is almost as if he is trying to comfort her, and viewers are excited to find out more about their romance. After the kiss, Na Ji Na stares at him with a mixture of curiosity and bewilderment. The subtle tension between the two characters makes hearts flutter even more. As a result, it will be intriguing to see what will happen next. After all, the third party in their love triangle hasn’t appeared yet!

Just want to confirm. Either the world end or park bo young's character love one dies, she still die right?

Hmm i foresee that they kinda end up together and doom's togegther. Perhaps that why the writer introduce us to second couple with love triangle for us to root. It is first for me. Usually the drama that i watch, there is no love triangle for the 2nd couple.

I just hope the writer can make make a sastisfied ending either sad or happy ending
