I was honestly thinking "what a moron hubby,   if it wasn't for daejung, she would have died" so yea, he was so dashing when he held her hand. it was actually kind of romantic. far more swooning than the king randomly showing up after all the danger is over and then smiling and saying "oh you look great."

@Lmangla, Man! You're tough! The King's primary job is to stay alive himself. Can you just imagine the short little guy in a robe going after those soldiers?! :P That's why he has Daejang, to do all that saving stuff for him.  Even so, my heart as the Queen would be going thumpety-thump for Daejang after that. His gallant rescue of her was my favorite action scene in the whole series and quite romantic! I just loved it! :D

Thoughts on Episode 17

Yippy-skippy! Woo-hoo! The kiss!  But I’ll get to that later; I just had to say something now. See how much K-drama and LMH make us (well, me at least) nuts for a little skinship?!

This episode opens with the trap for Young ready to be sprung. He knows he’s being followed and questions the scholars once he sees them. But by then it’s too late; they are trapped in the house. I like to imagine that Young smelled the faint odor of gunpowder and realized he couldn’t use his lightning power there – any spark would set it all off. Eun-soo makes a deal with the odious devil and agrees to marry Prince Hyung in order to save Young.

There’s both poignancy and humor afterward. Eun-soo is being escorted to a dinner with the Prince when she has two visions of Young. In one he’s leaning against a corner and smiles ever so sweetly and a little shyly at her. In the other he’s joking with his men. In both cases she smiles with joy to see him and just as quickly saddens again as the vision disappears. Once she arrives, the Prince is so delighted to have her that he sits down on the throne and asks her how grand he'll look there. She tells him that he’s a narcissist and describes his ethics-bereft personality concisely. But just as narcissists do, he’s unfazed. Then over dinner she calls him a “cheap-RickRoll'D” – I laughed out loud!

Once Young hears about the engagement, there’s nothing, I mean NOTHING, that will stop him from confronting the Prince. He goes to the palace and once again bats the guards aside, walking right up to the Prince and telling him to take his hand off of Eun-soo. For her part, she barely manages to restrain Young from killing the Prince, and the Prince leaves, not knowing how long she can restrain him. When she tells Young she’ll stay in order to get the last of the notebook, he tells her he doesn’t care about what the notebook says and sweetly asks her to be with him until she leaves. Her eyes tear up at his request; she’s definitely figured out who “that person” is. Young has dismantled the barrier to her heart and is now walking straight into it with his bravery, honesty and steadfast love for her. He keeps challenging her decision and coming closer to her until her back is against the wall - shades of Episode 3, anyone? Unlike earlier, however, he pulls her into an embrace and holds her tightly to him. He’s both frustrated and deeply in love with her.

Later Young finds Eun-soo searching for the notebook at night. He hears people coming and they duck into a closeted alcove. It’s another excuse for watching this sweet pair be close together, their noses almost touching. Young gives her that intent stare of his, first demonstrating his care for her by asking if there’s anything in the notebook about her. When she replies no, he says he doesn’t care about knowing when he’s going to die. Afterward, Eun-soo soon decides to spend her remaining time with Young and tries to cancel her engagement with the Prince. But then she learns the severe consequences both she and Young will face if she does.

Meanwhile, the King is taking a few steps of his own, wryly commenting to the scholars that they are trying to decide which king to support when they bring him the new seal. He reinstates and promotes Young, and the King and Young’s conversation is between friends, with Young chiding him about security and the King almost apologizing for giving him a new office. He later puts Young in a position of authority in the palace to keep order and recruit men from the Royal Guard until the King can return. I liked Young’s confrontation of the Prince on the throne, asking him to leave it since that is the solely the King’s seat. Young must have really enjoyed saying that to the man he so despises! The Prince chuckles defiantly but he’s been served notice.

Ki Chul and the Prince hatch their assassination plot against the King and move the wedding date up. Young is moving quickly, knowing the rebellion is at hand and using his friendship with Ahn Jae to bring a number of commanders back into the King’s fold. Then, when he hears of the sudden marriage, he enters the throne room, looking directly at Eun Soo and asking in a commanding voice, “What are you doing there?!” His eyes don’t leave her, even when Ki Chul tries to stop him. Filled with a lover’s righteous anger, Young summons his inner power, never even looking at Ki Chul while he removes his freezing hand from his shoulder.

Eun-soo goes to Young and tells him about the plot against the King, but he already knows. He has to do something immediately to stop the wedding, almost apologizing to her by saying, “Since there is no other way…” He puts one hand on the back of her neck and leans in for a long, passionate kiss, moving his mouth over hers. She soon leans into the kiss and closes her eyes, making it clear to the court that his love is returned. Imagine what this would actually be like in a Goryeo court: Kissing would be extremely private, considered part of making love. On top of that a commoner is directly defying the heir to the throne. It’s still aimed at a modern audience, but no wonder everyone is absolutely aghast, their mouths hanging open! And that’s what I love about Young’s character, fearlessly doing a frontal breakthrough when needed, this time making a clear claim on his beloved and sweeping her out from under the Prince at the same time. Sigh… sigh…and sigh!

Thank you very much for inviting me here! I wasn't aware that you have mentioned me (I am still trying to be comfortable with the soompi world) and it was a surprise to see my name in here while reading all the post you have written in the context of the rewatch! I spent the last two days reading and I hope to be a active participant from now on.

Good Morning !  and  hello chingu @Missprincesa

Thank you very much to you too! I totally love your recaps and, although I can't see the gifs you post (I guess is because of the different geographical areas?) you describe everything so well that I totally understand what you are referring to.

I am so excited to be here!!! This summer I discovered LMH watching TKEM in Netflix, being that my third k-drama and, until then my favourite korean actor was Hyun Bin. Looking for other k-dramas in Netflix I decided to go for Boys Over Flowers, because the curly hair style looked so funny on LMH. And, although that drama is not but it is too cheesy for me, but it inspire me to look for others LMH dramas... and then I discovered Viki. And that was my downfall. I started with Personal Taste and decided to go next for Faith, because -again- the hairstyles seem funny and I thought that the plot wasn't going to trap me. Big mistake. By now I have watched all LMH dramas and movies and Faith and Gangnam Blues are definitely my favourite (I guess I like rough men).

And then I was told that you were rewatching Faith, and the fangirl in me went totally crazy. I am really glad to have found the forum and all of you and I have a lot of fun reading your comments and feelings these last two days. And to arrive to the thread when you are about to comment Chapter 17 (the kiss! the kiss!) sounds like a divine sign.

I will rewatch chapter 17 again this night, in order to have a better grasping of the other characters (I have this thing on focusing too much on CY and ES and forgetting about the others), but for me there are two really special moments between CY and ES in this chapter. First: when he asked her if she agreed to marriage in order to save his life. That moment is so sweet, he is finally convinced then that he is really important to her, even to the point where she sacrifies herself for him being alive, and for him, being a warrior whose job is to kill people and who have always felt that his death was not an important matter for anyone, that is really very touching, and so he asks her for them to spend the rest of her time together... That's soooo sweet. And, second, when he have her against the column but impulsively decides to hold her. In chapter 12 his first instint when she grabbed his frozen hand was to retreat, in chapter 14 he loses his breath when she is the one who hugs him... but in chapter 17 we see that he is not anymore scared of closeness and he doesn't need a excuse anymore to hold her, and with his whole body (unlike chapter 16, when he puts his arm around her because she is sick and cold). Ains... I have no more words. I am melting.

I am really sorry for the long post, I will try to be more concise in the future. And also, since English is not my first languaje, I apologise for any grammar or spelling mistake. Really glad to be here, chingus!!

Episode 17

MelB7Ip5KFZfM5CuNZB_TXAZQaoW-SCvw_kSYaqu

This episode show cases CY and ES took their first major step towards being honest about their feelings for each both in the dialogue and action scenes.

ES hurried over to DH residence and trips over the step as a result of her hastiness to get DH to put a halt to his plot to kill CY. If you ignore the context of that scene, DH still a gentlmen who immediately reaching out to support her.

I LOL  at the scene when LC asked CY, why ES is not with him, the clueless face when he pace up and down with reply “what am I supposed to do next….I don’t know”.. (damn you Daejang ! how can you forget ES )

LC tried to keep the news of ES married to DH from CY but could not and the look on CY face as it slowly (and very subtly) changes to one of shock and disbelief is almost heartbreaking upon hearing the impending wedding. One can only guess what is going through his head at that moment as he works his way through the initial denial and begins to panic.

Spoiler

0Ebd-L5KxlKpRwvrZ3MIWG8sUNJL_COK1eDv31x7

ES all dressed up (ehhhh…I don’t like ES hairdo) ready to meet DH for dinner and ES kept imagining CY everywhere, it was a sweet way of showing how she misses him and is constantly thinking of him where ever she goes in some sense its like CY is her shadow always following her around.

I love how blunt ES rained down on DH by calling him a patient with narcissistic personality disorder and cheap RickRoll'D because that exactly what he is. He thinks he's more valuable than anyone and a prodigy. One of these days his so called brilliant tactics will totally work against him.

Spoiler

aTZ62WtiQAHrsvr0BMb2cmLhb7E3JCK-dfch2le6

CY barge his way in to DH residence and in this scene we don't see CY actually draw his blade anymore, especially in front of ES. He knows she doesn't like to see bloodshed. He mostly just hold the sword and hit with it shelt or fought with his bare fists.

I loved it when CY says "that hand! move it!"  damn !!!  Its like him saying "no RickRoll'D touches my woman. Move that hand or lose it"

When CY ask ES to answer his question...how he advances towards ES while she keeps taking a step back until she hits a dead end.

CY moving towards her symbolizes moving forward and embracing the future rather than being held back by the past.

What I loved was when he say that DH fed her poison  “would you marry a man like that... to save me?"  It was more like him coming to terms with the fact that this woman, ES would endure having to put her life at risk , would endure living/marrying a man who tried to kill her,who would may do it again because of greed just so she could protect him from dying. In short she would sign a deal with the devil itself.

Another scene which touches me is when CY says that there are only a few days remaining..for those days “can't you be by my side" you can actually feel and sense what CY means deep down inside his heart.

He wants to savor every single moment he has with her. Even without ES mentioning it he knows that once she leave's this is it ,the end. So while there is still time every moment, every day, every minute & every second counts. Its like give me these remaining last days so I can live remembering them for the rest of my life so, I have a reason to carry on even when you aren't here. When ES mentioned the word “dying”, CY pull her in and embrace her

Spoiler

Xzabs48B5MRW5LOcJeXgnl4GEAZs8_GpiQJnoTZd

The thought of her dying was just too painful for him. It triggered the memory of a weak helpless ES dying only days ago when he almost lost her. She spoke of death without any hesitation without  fear and at the same time with the confidence he would save her. It was just too much for him take in. Here was a man who spent his whole life not wanting to live but here she was a woman who would put her own life to risk just so he could live.

LC's expression when she spoke to ES or when she listened to ES's side of the story was hilarious. It like, "what have you gotten into yourself this time...This girl ..argh does she never learn???  Can't she just sit still." LC and CY are so alike they think the same way when it comes to ES!!

Scene move to ES tip-toe to DH residence trying to search for the journal. I loved the way CY knocked down the spy following her the first time he knocks him down I was ...waaaaaa so kool just in one go,the second I cracked up!! It was hilarious just one effortless knock on the head and his down..lol.DH and KC have crap people working from them.

CY gets immensely amused at her feeble attempts at ransacking the room searching for the pcs of torn journal. I can almost see the wheels in his brain turning as he thinks, "What am I to do with you, my lady?"  And he swoops in immediately to save the day (before she alerts the guards with her clumsiness). When ES turns to find CY and hits him in the chest !….argggg..these two love birds are just so cute !!!..

Then they share a conversation, with Eun Soo mostly whispering throughout the entire conversation while he speaks in his normal monotonous voice. Inside the close proximity room, it's so clear they are looking out for each other in the ways they know of. She's looking for her journal to save him, not finding ways to return to Heaven.

CY tells ES he does not care if he dies and to give up on the journal if nothing being mentioned of her life being in danger.  There’s a little bit of sadness here when CY gives a long stare at ES without saying anything and just leave.

Spoiler

4g9HzIVbzBg4oDXE2jUZAo1XPL0ojELhbKuGL0cQ

When CY told his Aunt...I am being careful...we are staying in the same palace but I have not visited her...you can see and feel his longing to see ES, how much he misses her.

And when he talks about ES leaving the next full moon you can sense the atmosphere changing , his tone his body changing to a wind that carries sadness. And when he says that she has no desire to stay here, not even the slightest of heart, you can really feel his heart breaking. Its like deep down he really wished that she would stay back for him.

Finally comes the much awaited scene..Chingus brace your computer screen..

CY enters the throne upon hearing the last minute change in the marriage date. CY uses his inner power , managed to overpower GC freezing hand from his shoulder while his anger eyes looking at ES askingWhat are you doing there?!”  As both facing each other, CY was totally eyeing her lip, then look up at her uttering  'because there’s no other way' then he planted a passionate kiss on her.

It's just so like CY's frontal attack and reminds me of one of the earlier episodes when he claims ES as his woman to save her from GC's clutches. It's like he has this unconscious desire to declare her status as his woman in front of everybody

Great recap @Thong Thin!   Hugs to you.    That must have hit CY painfully hard, when the woman he loves willingly marries a "murderer" to save his life, with the promise not to hurt him in future.

I love the scene when CY crashes into the court where Imja and the prince are talking. CY just cut through the soldiers effortlessness and angrily to confront the prince and ES, asking her directly if she is marrying the prince and why.  When the prince leaves, I love the direct and forthcoming way CY asks ES, what she is up to. I love the way he calls her imja so often in this scene.  it is just so sexy the way he calls her.  I love that he asks her to come away with him and to spend her last days with him instead of the prince. It was such an earnest plea. He can't stomach her being in the vicinity of the prince and at his mercy.  Then when she tells him she wants to ensure he survives as he is very famous in the future.  He is a bit stymied, they are now totally frank with each other.  He realizes the depth of her feelings for him and he suddenly hugs her tightly.  I think, it is the first time he initiated it. So touchingly breathtaking. LMH is simply awesome in such scenes.

The scene where the king gives royal orders to the prince and you could see the satisfaction and smirk in CY's face when he ordered the prince to move his butt from the throne.  :joy:

So ES goes creeping around and CY follows her in amusement. Knocking out guards nonchalantly as he goes by. He has completely no regard for his own destiny and self.  He tells ES to forget the book if it has nothing to do with her own safety. Love the way, he now just stares at her intently as though he cannot have enough of looking at her. So swoon-worthy.

Bwa-ha-ha, so he finally kisses ES, his excuse is to stop the marriage but in reality he is only waiting for the right excuse..  The one and only kiss in the drama. The look on all their faces ...
