@CallieP Long story short, a new thread is created by the modmins whenever there's a new episode of a show.  All discussions of that episode must stay in that thread.  It's an organizational method.  For r/Kdrama, because Korea airs 2 episodes a week (usually), they combine the two into one singular thread.  So it would be like the mods at Soompi making a new thread for each weekend's episode duo.

Usually each episode duo thread gets about 50-300 replies...I actually am very active on reddit but I hate discussing TV episodes there because you don't quite get the community feel that a traditional forum has.  It's more like comment and move on.  CLOY was the behemoth earlier this year, and episodes for big shows like CLOY and Itaewon would get one thread per episode.  CLOY's finale had 909 replies to it.  CLOY's penultimate episode had 531 replies, and that was considered BIG.

Enter TKEM.  Episode 1/2 had 547 responses, and 3/4 had 517 responses.  Honestly, a lot of it was just people kind of confused or complaining about the show.  Episode 7 got its own thread, and got 343 replies.  Annnnd we can pinpoint the exact moment the TKEM watchers in Reddit lost their minds, because it's when we all collective lost it over here and started spamming the forum with multiple posts a minute.  It was episode 8, when LG and JY interrogated the traitor.

Here are the numbers following that episode, keeping in mind, most shows aren't popular enough to even warrant ONE thread per episode:

    • Ep 8 - 750 replies
    • Ep 9 - 388 replies
    • Ep 10 - 879 replies (this is when it exploded again, after the Jacket of Doom)
    • Ep 11 - 852 replies
    • ep 12 - 1600 replies (yup, this thread was a MESS.  Not from the content, everyone was brilliant in their theories, but it was TOO BIG)
    • Ep 13 - 1300 replies
    • Ep 14 - 1000 replies
    • Ep 15 - 1600
    • Pre finale discussion - 631 replies

So then for the finale, the mods figured that instead of having one messed up giant thread, they could cut the replies to 800 per thread, and then start a part 2.  Not even CLOY ever got a Part 2 for a single episode.  It didn't quite work because people kept commenting....it's at well over 2000 replies combined and the mods even opened up a Q&A thread for the people.  Not to mention, there's going to be ANOTHER post show discussion thread coming up.

    So yeah...TKEM broke r/kdrama.

Thanks so much. Do reddit comments go back to previous episodes? For instance, Ep 8 has 750 replies. By next week can Episode 8 go up till 1000 replies or that is not the way reddit works? Or CLOY penultimate had 531 but today, it has 800?

    Spoiler

I have 25 pp to backtrack cos I spent so much time in the Shipper's Thread, LOL.  I mistakenly posted some of my further thoughts on TKEM's conclusion there instead of here on the main thread cos us Shippers  were having so much fun there.  So just for my closure here is my brief take -

    1. I super duper enjoyed the TKEM run. This experience was doubly enhanced because of the sharings with great commenters here at Soompi.

    2. I love how the drama showed LG's relentless battle to do what is right, even to the point of sacrificing himself. He was true to his promise to TE to open all doors just to be with her. No one doubted that, right?

    3. I also love that TE was an active player in trying to resolve the problems of the parallel worlds. That she was willing to take the risk to go to the InBetweenPlace with LR was true to form. Her courage preserved her memories & helped solve 50% of the problem in LG's equation.

    4. Also love how JY's destiny was fulfilled by him protecting the King - adult & young LG. Such a great turn for our Unbreakable Sword.

    5. The acting was stellar all around. LMH & KGE gave a matured and nuanced portrayal of their characters.

    6. Reiterating why I am not satisfied with the show's conclusion (the one I posted at the Shipper's Thread):
    • Show was wrapped up in this pretty bow and everyone on the good side got a happy ending, with the legendary flute used as "passport" for our OTP's weekly dates. That cheapened the mystic of the flute -- the legendary story which was sold to us throughout the series. That's why I feel cheated & disappointed. With so much gravitas we get a half-baked Finale that is almost like fan-service.
    • To add more to my feelings of being let down of getting a Disney-esque conclusion, one of those happy endings was not even warranted. Am referring of course to the SJ-Luna twist. TE was never meant for SJ. So I don't get the Luna connection.  Among all the pairings in this drama, our OTP definitely deserves to get the sensical resolution. Luna not dying became an impediment for TE's case of becoming queen & therefore an impediment for our OTP to have legitimate heirs. So, I really think & feel that Luna should have died to serve the greater arc of the story which is LG & TE.  Do I need to see a royal wedding? Nope. Just a hint would have been satisfactory (e.g. ring on their fingers when they were old & gray). Then them still in possession of the flute would have made more sense.
    • No heirs would have had the Kingdom up in arms & the weekly-gallivanting LG delinquent in his duty as King with the closed-capped ending that we got. Yes, for me it was not open-ended.
    • I really wonder if this was the original script or did KES cave in to market/fan pressures

Despite #6 above & never mind the wasted screen times on some unnecessary story segments, I treasure TKEM.  Will I re-watch it? You betcha! several times over.

ps: I am probably in the minority re NOT wanting a 2nd season. However, I look forward to what's next for LMH, KGE & WDH. Am a new fan of the last two.

PPS: Again thanks Soompi for hosting this thread. You guys rock!

I want to say that I agree with all your points. especially  the show's conclusions.  It seems that she may have changed her story.  If it was pre-produced and well done, it would have been better. I would want a happy ending with a marriage as an heir in needed for the kingdom.

However, I do want a Season 2 if possible. It is a chance for LMH and KGE to capitalize on their popularity.  Kingdom has a second season and it is not as popular as this.

    Weeeeellllllll

The flop drama TKEM just hit its 3rd thread for episode 16 alone on r/kdrama.  ONE episode has 3 threads and 2000+ comments and going strong, with a full series discussion coming next week.  Even CLOY could never.  I’ve rarely seen a second thread for an episode, let alone a THIRD.

FWIW, unless if the show is massively popular, two episodes airing the same week share a thread, which they did for TKEM until episode 7 and the discussions were exploding so the episodes got split.  And now the single episodes are also splitting.

we also were in Top 8 on Tumblr for a whole day.

Methinks South Korean media needs to find new ways of recognizing success than TB ratings.

Hey AgentQuake. I don't understand what that means, Hit its 3rd thread for Episode 16 on reddit, 3 threads and 2000 comments. 3 threads in Reddit is unusual?  How does Reddit work.  How do they add second and third thread. I check Reddit once or twice and don't understand it. How does one thread morph into a 2nd and 3rd thread. You said it is unusual.  From what you explained one episode splits into different thread. I find that interesting and want to understand more. Does it mean like Soompi TKEM splits to two Soompi TKEM. One by Syntyche and another one by someone else as an example??

How does Tumblr, work isn't it just a blog for writers?

Yep, it is arriving on Thursday. I'm pretty sure the whole season will be released at once :)

I'm very curious about what people will think. I barely know anyone who watches any kind of kdrama myself (I'm Scandinavian). So I don't know how much attention the series will get. More and more of kdramas have been popping up on Netflix Europe though so maybe it is growing.

Hope it will do okay in Europe. I think it will  be like the US though, not at the top 20.

i also think the best episode is another good poll question. But I was also thinking we can do one with who was our favorite character? What do you guys think?

Hi, Thanks @vangsweetie637 and @Alice Wonderland

here is the thing for me though. I don’t think her character was pointless but it was so flat for me. Like, why did the writer build up her character the way she was then have us questioning what exactly is her purpose from switching sides to LG to LR? I had this impression that the switch would be a dynamic duo but it fell flat. I didn’t get it from LG and her because she was more like an annoying character who wanted status and would do anything. But nothing happened drastically after she switched to LR? Like, her point of being a PM was to represent another kind of power-hungry person. But after she was stripped of her title, we see she wanted the flute and I was like “oooo..yeah! Is this where she stabs LR in the back?” But nooppe. Her presence with LR may have been to show us that no one can mess with LR. If so, we saw that through with all the doppelgängers already. It was such a letdown. She ended up in prison but not even in KOC prison. I don’t even know what happened to her in KOC after she learns of her mother’s switch. Is this supposed to be her ultimate guilt because time reset so it didn’t work. I wanted her to get a proper punishment from LG because she is the dang PM..her punishment should be as bad as the ‘beheaded’ doppelgänger. But in the end, I was like “whatt?” It’s the same with Luna for me. Suddenly she became sisters with PM and it was like a “huh” moment for me because it seemed like it was a different universe and then it wasn’t. I wasn’t satisfied. That’s why I feel bittersweet. I like the ending but some parts just wasn’t cutting it for me. Some of us stated that PM would have made a good second lead. I agree.

PM in the world after LR's death was in KOC prison.  She never became PM and her mother was never switched because LR was no longer in the world as he was killed in 1994, night of treason.

Not sure if Se Jin was ever born since JY killed her father when he was young at the night of the treason. So history might have changed.

@CallieP So in most asian cultures, including my own Vietnamese culture, they say that completing the ancestral shrine as meaning the joining of the wife ancestral altar to that of her husband's ancestral altar. For example, in Vietnamese weddings, both bride and groom pray to both ancestral altars for their blessing in their successful marriage and subsequent birth of a healthy male child who's job would be to maintain the ancestral shrine and carry the family name. For example, at my family home we have a large ancestral shrine containing framed pictures of family from both my grandma and grandfather's side and the oldest male in my family who is my uncle is suppose to maintain it as to ensure all of ancestors are honored in the afterlife. Subsequently, after my uncle dies, his son is suppose to maintain it and then my cousin's son through marriage is suppose to maintain and so forth. It's all too patriarchal for my taste lol. In other asian cultures, the completion of the ancestral shrine means the transferring of the wife to that of her husband's family aka marriage.

Thank you! I should know this myself being Chinese but I am not familiar with all the customs. My immediate family does not follow these customs.

GJP was an epic tyrant like character that I LIKED as well. He changed after couple of episode to a nice guy.

    @Heretorant

I am glad that you liked that ending because it truly was a great happy ending together

    @vangsweetie637

I guess the gif is saved now for another project of KES if she delivers a bad ending

The problem with this scenario is that Tyrant LG is in a different universe with Jung Tae Ra. Unless she is kidnapped and brought to his universe.  or he is kidnapped and banished to her universe with no ID and registration.

FYI, I noticed that Jilla said you are able to post consecutively as long as the next post is more than an hour. That means you cannot post in the next 5 minutes, however if it is more than an hour, you can post consecutively. So in the future you just need to wait an hour not until someone else posts.

I also realised that after the restoration of the worlds, many things disappeared but some didn't. One was the PPL necklace, the other was the sprouted seeds that JTE brought over from KOC. When the fate boy said that he thought the yoyo string would break by itself (thereby signalling their fate together was up) but it sprouted instead (referring to the seed), I think that convinced him not to break the string himself. JTE's blind hope helped them find each other again.

My guess is the plum necklace did not disappear because she was wearing it and she was in the in-between world. As for the plant, it is a seed and a living thing. So it grew once the flute was whole or the Yoyo boy allowed it.

I find the white uniform a bit large for LMH/LG.  A little tuck would have done the trick.  As for the blue uniform, well his fans have always preferred him in blue or dark colors as it brings out the best in his features. That's why LJH looked smokin' in that uniform.

I think this is the best that LMH has looked so far. I thought it was in LOTBS but in TKEM he exudes some elevated aura.  I guess it comes with the maturity or his portrayal of it. Outside of the film, like in the BTS, am glad he still retains his dorky side. That is endearing.

Yes, LMH looks best in TKEM especially the blue uniform. I love that he is still dorky. I love the BTS where he was running towards her in the bamboo forest and he was laughing all the way. The cutest thing ever.

Lmangla, were you the one who set up the last poll. Saw the post from @syntychefrom Tim Llewlyn about a possible Season2. Could you set up a poll on TKEM site on who would want a second season of TKEM that includes KGE and LMH?  Not sure about WDH because he will be doing MS.

Looking forward to the birthday bash!

@gtLmh0622 I was wondering why LMH always wore a mask on the way to work and back during MS? You saw him there correct at the senior center?  He removed it on his last day there. I never thought to ask if it was required by the government for celebrities, I don't understand why he has to do it?  Do any of the celebrities ever give the reason why?  He arrives by car and is outside for only 1 or 2 minutes so I don't see the necessity.

Second question is when he is inside working, does he remove his mask or he wears it the whole day at work? I don't recall any of the seniors going there talking about him to the press. I am sure some of the seniors must have watched his dramas or movies so how come they have not been interviewed by the press about him during or after his MS?  What he does there?  How did he react with the seniors?  What they thought of him there?

  7. I have a strong feeling that KES stalked our Soompi to see what we want and decided to cater to our wishes. I think she may have changed the trajectory of the drama to please Soompi Monarchs :joy::lol:

She probably planned to separate LG and JTE forever, or kill JTE or JY or even LG and have a sad ending. She changed her story mid-way to please us. What do you think?  But she thinks I will give you most of what you want but not everything you want, so no wedding. Ha! Ha!  PM did say at Jenga that it is a sad love story but the death threats made KES change her mind.  :D

I liked the part where they resolved all the back stories and the characters new lives. The two SJs living their lives happily in KOC and ROK.  Luna being a adopted sister to the PM. I thought that part was lovely and well done.

During the night of the treason, I wish the fight between LR and LG was more exciting e.g. LG and LR fighting each other for the flute. rolling on the ground and hitting each other, perhaps LG getting hurt or shot before killing LR. Something more life threatening. Perhaps fighting in the in-between part of the two universes. LR and JTE fighting and LR almost killing JTE before he disappeared because LG killed the younger LR. LR never really tried to fight back. A villain should be more aggressive.  That LG went back to pick up wounded JY, give him a hug for saving baby LG  and head to the portal, back to 2020.

    Questions:

    1. I thought I saw baby LG drop the sword and run out of the room when the shooting began so he was ways away and safe from the shooting. So I was surprised that he was unconscious near the center of the room and JY checking to see if he was alive. Also why is baby LG unconscious. I did not see him being hit or hurt so I am confused about that. The last I saw of baby LG was that he was running out of the room.
    2.  Luna in 2022 outside the Haesong book store. How did LG get a video of that on JY's laptop in 2020?  It was not JTE, it was not relevant to JY or LG so why was it on the laptop? What did it signify?  Why was it so important and Yoyo boy was staring at the camera at LG? And all the time it was Luna that LG does not care about. I wonder if LG looked for SJ and Luna in KOC?
    3. Luna called JTE's dad to say she would be late and she walked away in pain. Was she dying?
    4. Since LR did not kill Prince Buyeong. He should still be alive and heir to the throne, right? So why did LG not introduce her directly to the prince?  And Prince Buyeong did not recognize LG ?  Did they go back in time to see Prince Buyeong? Why?
    5.

I think JTE, JY and LG kept their memories because they went back in time or was at the in-between land. Lady Noh still knows that she came from the other world and may guess where JTE is from and where LG goes every weekend since she knows the secret of the flute. She could pressure LG to bring JTE back to KOC and get married. She moved and married in KOC so it has been done. LG had rashly previously announced that JTE is his future queen even though he knew Luna existed in KOC.  It did not faze him so why does he not propose again and not worry about the JTE double in KOC. It could be that some people just look alike or they could fake a long lost twin. Or he could bring Luna and her boyfriend SJ into the secret so they would not spill the beans. Since they are both police, they can be trusted to keep silent.   Or they could move to Australia and live in comfort under the largess of LG so there won't be confusion in Corea. There is so many things they could do.

I love their travels BUT I don't like the fact that they did not marry and kept their relationship a secret. That they disappear every weekend? The king needs an heir. Won't his subjects and government and Lady Noh clamber for him to get married and produce an heir. Its his responsibility.  For God's sake he is the Eternal Monarch, if he does not produce an heir,  his reign dies with him. It goes to a relative so he is no longer eternal. His seed dies with him. So because of that, I don't like the ending. LG needs an heir.

However, this open ending could lead the way for a season two. Their adventures in rescuing  other universes with the magic flute. Another baddie disrupts their lives. They lose the flute in another universe and are stuck there. Finally they get married.

Someone else could continue and not KES. She could sell her rights. Or get the lead director for Sunshine and Dots instead of the assistant director.  Lets see if @Wis dom is right in his prediction. Wonder if KGE and LMH will do it. KDH may not because of MS.

I agree that Episode 16 was so light. I wish it was a little more heavy at the beginning during the night of the treason. There was more that they could show.

Happy that our OTP was given an out for the unconventional circumstance of their love story but I just find the finale... lightweight. Given that the premise has so much gravitas.  I enjoyed watching the finale but am not  satisfied.  I will just leave it at that.

I enjoyed watching the ending too but a little unsatisfied and I will write my thoughts in a different post.

  9. I was thinking, WDH as ES was moving his body dancing to the Ginseng strip at the police station while LG was in the jail cell in TKEM.  I was thinking, he can dance. He has the moves.  LMH took lessons on how the sing and he is now good at singing, at Igonche with his lessons at Royal Speak. He is great at sports, basketball. Learnt surfing, skateboarding. He also took riding lessons and is a good horse rider. He is almost perfect in every way but I found his weak spot and he knows it himself.  He is not a great dancer. He trains hard for some moves so that he can do it. He has to have specific steps to follow so he can dance a little but he is not a natural born dancer which KDH is with his little short dance at that scene. His body can move to the music. LMH gets very shy and self-conscious when he dances but he is cute doing it even though somewhat stiff.  Remember one of his earlier ads, Cassel beer or something where he puts on black eye make up, it is a black and white ad and his hair is tied up in parts. He practiced some kind of a form dance. He was okay in it, his dancing.  However, he really had a very different persona there. Like a night person, vampire like.  Different from any LMH we are familiar with. I find it intriguing.

Well, baby boy cannot excel at everything. :joy:

@gtLmh0622 Thanks for your response. I just realized that Igonche is not a real word or language that royalty in Korea speak.  Igon is for Lee Gon and it is Lee Gon speak right? So it is specifically for TKEM.  I found the page  3409 with Nikaa94 talking about it.

  13. BTW, on the King forum, someone posted picture of WDH, topless. He has a very muscular body with washboard abs. However, I find it too muscular. I prefer LMH as shown in Heirs, in wet suit and topless and in CH, bathing. That is my kind of body. LMH has not gone topless lately. Someone posted that he does not have to any longer. He is famous enough :D

Most of his dramas he acted with Noonas. The only two that are younger than him are KGE and Park Shin Hye.

JJH is his Noona too in LOTBS.

I think I would also like to see him act as a soldier or mercenary who tries to atone for something bad he did as a mercenary. If we want him in a villain role. Villain initially but change of heart??? Or something like in Prison playbook. I did not watch it yet though LOL!

@gtLmh0622 I did a search for Ignoche on google but could not find any real info on it. I think you had put  something on this forum about LMH learning to speak Ignoche style (not sure if I got spelling right). I understand what it was saying but I wonder if there is something on YouTube to show the difference between speaking Ignoche style and regular Korean. How LMH is speaking differently from KGE or KDH as JY or SJ as a detective? I don't notice the difference except for some words like when he says "Hey"  "Ibugey" to JTE.  Apart from that, it seems he is speaking normal Korean. I am curious to listen to the difference. Why does JTE  not ask him why he speaks so strangely?  She just accepts it as normal.

I like the suggestions Park Bo-young, Kim Tae-ri, IU, and maybe Han Hyo-joo.  I would suggest Jung So-min, also.

It would depend on the role as to which actress would be best suited.  But LMH would have chemistry with anyone.

I want him to try everything, and I look forward to more of his second chapter, which quite logically and naturally will be more mature.

awesome! let me think about something fun as a theme and get back. I keep thinking of a space theme for some reason. hahahah...  usually for questions, we do something kind of random and funny. so something like:

Q1. imagine you end up running into lee min ho and his manager at the airport. his manager says you can ask one question but min ho is bored of the usual questions. so, what would you ask?

Q2. he has been a chaebol, spy, general, king, con artist, gangster. what would you like to see? astronaut? zombie killer? doctor?

for food and drinks, we can ask people to post their favourite foods or something from their part of the world to give it an international flavour.

P.S ~ when is his birthday by the way?

I like question 1, I would ask him what he did during his MS years? Did he study English?

I don't think LMH has acted as a spy. I think that would be a great action movie for him. A spy, maybe for North Korea or something.

@gtLmh0622Have you found any articles or interviews by LMH about his time in MS?  What he did during the weekends and evenings? Did he study English?  What did he do at the Senior Center?  Any interesting stories to tell at the center? How was the two weeks military training?  What did he do?  How did he fare? Are they supposed to talk about it?  Have other actors talked about their time at MS?  For example Kim Soo Hyun or Ji Chang Wook? I am curious.. :D

As much as I want him to come back, it is better to wait. To be honest, LMH might have not come back with drama after MS if KES hadn't offered him TKEM role. KES is a top and known writer and I doubt any actor would reject her. LMH himself mentioned in the press conference that KES's name is influential (don't remember exact words) and that he trusted her. That is why he came back with drama soon after MS. He might have come back with a movie had it not been with KES offer. LMH is very popular and well-established and he doesn't need to be in projects to gain popularity. Therefore, I think he has become even more cautious and meticulous about his projects. He may not choose drama until he knows for sure the script has something good to offer. Like @leeminhosny mentioned popular actors get criticized fast. LMH knows this too. It is best we wait until we get a script worthy of coming back. If he doesn't choose good scripts, people will judge and criticize that his role is the same and it is boring. K-netizens were not patient with TKEM and criticized it so fast because of A-list actors and super high expectations, which is why KES should have started the drama stronger to meet up with viewers' expectations and not lose them *eye siding* :D (less ppl, ..). tvN dramas are a lot better in terms of creativity and new plots. He has been in public channels for so long. tvN and JTBC produce very good dramas. Most actors have once played in tvN dramas. To be honest, TKEM is tvN material, I don't know why KES chose SBS. I agree that we should support him whatever role he chooses. I want the best for him!

He chooses writers who has had previous hits or great directors.  I am not sure about his choice of dramas though. Three of them had myths or mythology or going back in time. Two were school kids.  Faith director is one of the best, and so is the writer.  KES and LOTBS

were very successful writers and LOTBS director was the same as CH director I think. GB director is top notch for gangster movies. GB was the third of a trilogy. The other two were great successes.

I really did not like Bounty Hunters. It has a good idea but story line not interesting and directing meh. A better story about Bounty Hunters would be much better.

Some one asked about another Chinese drama that he rejected and he picked this instead.  A popular Chinese actress Zhang Zi Yi (??)  approached him. Maybe that would have been a better choice.

@kiklaminHo You like R88 too? I honestly believe it’s a drama everyone should watch. Everyone can learn a thing or two about appreciating life. Are you watching Hospital Playlist? It’s the same writer as Reply.

I’m up for it. I’m a sucker for damaged leads or a “villain” lead. Unfortunately, I don’t believe korean dramas write too many of these characters. It’s usually movies. That’s why I don’t mind him taking a break from dramas and choosing film instead. Off the top of my head, I can’t name a ton of korean dramas where the lead is “bad.” Maybe Ji Sung in “Defendant,” Lee Jun Ki in “Two Weeks,” Jang Hyuk in “Slave hunters,” and Jo In Sung in “That winter the wind blows?” I think that’s as “bad” as characters get in kdramaland.

Hahaha you’re most certainly correct. Lmh is mostly remembered for his roles from hit dramas but I think he performs the best in his projects that are low rated. It’s not that he didn’t perform well in this other projects, it’s that he could only do so much with what he was given.  I think it’s not LOTBS though, I think it’s more BOF and Heirs. People actually liked him a lot during LOTBS and praised his comedic acting. Many can agree that he shined even next to JJH and possibly carried the show. To me, lmh is a great actor but a great actor also needs to meet a great role. LG is a great role imo and that’s why he’s excelling. LG‘s story was an emotional roller coaster ride so lmh had to portray many different emotions and he delivered flawlessly!

I prefer he takes both routes lol. He can take on some roles that will be automatic hits and some that are more challenging and may not be a success.

I honestly believe he accepted GB with the mindset of b). A heartthrob known for his romantic roles taking on something completely opposite? GB wasn’t a huge blockbuster but everyone who watches it will agree he is so different there and it might even convert some haters to believing he’s not just all romance.

I think some people were saying that his fans won’t allow him to “shed his image” but truthfully, I would like it if he did. I seriously would love to see him venture out and try different roles. Nothing is wrong with being an entertaining actor but I do believe that’s not where he wants to stay. Whatever his choice, I will support him every step of the way.

I wonder if he wants to remain popular and thus stick with safe themes or branch out but risk a flop. I think I would like him to do something with a strong social message, maybe dealing with the coronavirus pandemic or something like Parasite, and wealth inequality.  Something deep and serious. Or a prison drama, hard and gritty. I really like the story line for his Toyata mini-series commercial. He acted as twins, one bad and the other good.  ( I think something similar was done by Yang Se Jong in Duel which I liked a lot.) I think if he does a drama, it should be safe but he could branch out in a movies like he did for GB, something that shows him in a different light.

    Chingu, you are the GOAT!

8% is roughly 1.5-1.8 million people, I forgot exactly but when they used to update in the TKEM’s thread weeks ago, It showed the amount of viewers. That’s why I said in TKEM’s thread, in my head, they are performing at least 16% without us knowing lol.

But considering you said an article said half the viewers are watching and that’s 7.5 million people then that’s way higher than 16% lol. The thing to take into consideration, people subscribe to wavve for a reason —> to watch shows. So you wonder why on Wavve there could possibly be such a huge audience watching but not on regular channel? Because Wavve people are people who likes to watch shows. So yeah, it makes sense half the people on wavve are watching TKEM. And this translates into their good data points. How can a show that is supposedly rated “mediocre” be the most talked about and most buzz worthy show? They’re leading by a good margin! Once Again has good ratings but is nowhere near as popular at TKEM. In conclusion, they are gathering most of their viewers online.

Another point, while TKEM is airing on all SBS and Wavve, they still remain one of the top shows on Netflix. For a few days now, they’ve been number 1 and today, number 2, just right behind Hospital Playlist. But hospital playlist is NOT on Wavve. So TKEM has managed to capture the viewers on both Netflix and Wavve. Add to that the 8% still ancient and watching on TV and their viewership is no joke!

Let’s say Netflix and Wavve did not exist, how high would the ratings have gotten? Let’s remember, this is Writer Kim’s first project ever on SBS with Netflix and Wavve around. Previous dramas had the advantage of just being streamed on television. And even Mr. Sunshine is on TVN and Netflix only. The introduction of Wavve definitely decreased the chances of high ratings on regular channel because a lot of people who love watching shows are watching through Wavve. And we wondered why people who are interested enough are not watching live, it’s because they are watching it live on Wavve! Unfortunately, the ratings on Wavve does not get measured by Neilson. But the key takeaway is that roughly 1/3 of South Korea is on Wavve so the viewership on Wavve should be considered as well. If not for Wavve and all the people on wavve still had TV and watched through SBS, TKEM would be sitting at over 20% right now! The media should just shut up because the only one who truly knows that TKEM is doing well is SBS and Netflix. SBS is not losing out at all! They own Wavve and purposely put TKEM on there knowing that it would affect the ratings on regular channel.

Yes, with 1.5 million in Netflix and 7.5 million in Wave and 1.8 million in SBS, the total is around 10 million which should be a lot. I don't even see Married mentioned any longer after its run but I think TKEM will be popular for a longer period.

China has prohibited all Hallyu, Kdramas or K-pop content in China as the country's retaliation against SK when the latter deployed the THAAD American missile defense system in the country.

So all Korea contents are running on illegal sites.  Despite the ban, it is still still extremely popular, if not more popular.  TKEM ranks #1 & #2 in weibo so that's telling.  LMH is a big deal out there.

Any Korean content needs government approval to be shown in China.

Here is an interesting a paper from the International Journal of Arts & Commerce if you can find time to read. The gist:

The fundamental reason of Korean dramas’ success in China is that they meet Chinese needs which include cultural and psychological contentment, spiritual satisfaction, aesthetic gratification and visual enjoyment. Besides, there is the perfect combination of tradition and modernity in South Korean dramas, displaying the essence of traditional culture in a modern manner.

    https://www.ijac.org.uk/images/frontImages/gallery/Vol._5_No._9/3._21-25.pdf

    @Heilo @Elnin Joery

It is a pity. LMH could do so many CFs for China and TKEM could make huge profits by selling to China legally.  Now not a cent is made from that huge market. By the time China removes the ban, LMH may no longer be popular there and forgotten. :(

    And about the next project.

I really want him to do movies instead of drama.

Option 1.  I really want him paired with KGE, hehe.

Option 2. Han Hyo Jo/Gong Hyo Jin. I love Gong Hyo Jin. I want him to do a movie with her. GHJ once asked by media, to pick who among the Hallyu stars, would she wish to be paired with her in the future project. She picked LMH to be paired with her playing a strong and tough character.

Option 3. I would love to see LMH paired with Lee Sung Kyung. I've never seen her project in full pack, but I've seen several scenes of her on Instagram. She is so good at bickering-comedy scenes. She would have the real tandem because LMH also good at it (he was so extra in BOF when it comes to bickering scenes).

Another option: SHK, but think again about it, I am not really into it. I really2 love SHK. She is my first crush. But like LMH, she also is a super mega star. I see potential chaos if they meet in the project. Hehe.

Sorry, but I really hope he does have Gong Hyo Jin as his female lead. I really don't like watching her. Never seen one of her dramas that I liked. Let's agree to disagree :(

I follow other lead actors also and most of them do one project a year.

It's also frustrating that LMH seems to not be that interested in doing films (unlike Park Seo Joon, for example).

I think Ji Chang Wook, Choi Jin Hyuk, Jung Hae In and Yang Se Jong are some that comes out with a drama really quick esp. Choi Jin Hyuk. If LMH does a movie, no drama. Some of the others do a drama and a movie e.g. KGE already has movie in the bag. LMH has not chosen anything yet as far as we know. He could have selected both and start a movie right now or in 2 months after KIng if he wanted.

"The King" Lee Min-ho, Proves his Potential for Melodrama. Unlimited Visual and Acting Power

With the power of actor Lee Min-ho, the romance fantasy of "The King: Eternal Monarch" is being completed.

SBS Friday-Saturday drama "The King: Eternal Monarch" is set to end with the last battle of Lee Gon, the emperor of the Korean Empire, as he heads back to the past to correct the world that has been broken by a rift in time. Lee Min-ho, who is completing the parallel world story, is gaining popularity. With his visual and sincere acting skills that maximize the excitement of fantasy romance, Lee proved the power of limitless melodrama by empowering "The King: Eternal Monarch."

With his more mature appearance and acting skills, Lee has been making perfect use of the emperor's charm and increasing his immersion in his work. In addition to the shift of his eyes from coolness to warmth, his deep voice conveyed the depth of the emperor with sincerity. His lines such as, "My name is Lee Gon," were also attractive, adding to the lingering imagery of the drama with impressive monologues and famous lines.

In particular, Lee Min-ho gave momentum to the latter half of "The King," which recovers the double-track lines with his deep and rich emotional acting, thereby drawing attention from viewers. In the midst of repeated twists and turns, he expressed emotions of the character such as anger, sadness, and longing, in a delicate and heavy manner, which drew positive reviews. Therefore, the emperor's desperate efforts to protect the two worlds have become the main point of watching the drama, which cannot be missed even by the sad love story that has gone beyond fate.

In addition, Lee Min-ho's shift between a cool-headed monarch and a warm-hearted lover has increased the fun of seeing him. With sincere words and actions as he cares for Tae-eul, and affectionate love that goes until the end, he completed the chemistry of the "Lee Eul couple" with Kim Go-eun. On the other hand, the bromance with Woo Do-hwan, and Kim Young-ok and Jeon Moo-song, showed a variety of charms, crossing laughter and emotion with the imperial chemistry.

From visual to acting, action, and chemistry, Lee Min-ho perfectly expressed the emperor "Lee Gon's" character to satisfy viewers' expectations. With his bold acting skills, he is firmly linking all genre elements, including romance, action and mystery, completing the world view of "The King." The final episode will air at 10 p.m. on Friday, the 12th.

Agree with this, pop.herald normally comes up with praise about LMH's acting in King. Is it an independent news magazine?

Whenever he speaks with that deep voice, talks softly to TE, being playful or getting angry to LR or when he gives orders as king. Awww... I love all of those! I really want him to have another drama with real saeguk theme. He could be a crown Prince or another king.

He has the look and top notch acting skill. He makes all of his character really smitten to his loved ones. I want him to have another project soon, huhuhu... hope it won't ne too long to wait his return after TKEM.

He is making LG special and charismatic! Oh no, after next Friday we won't meet him every week again. I don't want TKEM to end soon but I want to watch ep 16 soon. :weary:

Yup, he cultivated a really sexy voice in King and top notch acting too.

I find LMH to be good in maximizing his time really well & his agency is good in keeping him in the limelight - even when he was out for 2 years.  We have to remember that the 2 years before he left for military service, he was working like nobody's business

    2015 Gangnam Blues (GB)

    2016 Bounty Hunter

    2016 LOTBS

    2017 DMZ

This does not even include his CFs.  That's why there was a 3-year gap from Heirs (2013) to LOBTS (2016)  - look at that project sked!  Note that DMZ was even labor & time-intensive as he had to be in the wilderness to shoot the narration.

I remember an interview with his GB co-star & another fine actor, Kim Rae Won where he said that he was motivated to give more in GB, making sure that his takes were done well & one-take on as much as possible, in consideration of LMH's super hectic sked.

I expect LMH to take a short break after TKEM, then get busy real fast as COVID will allow.

Three years without a drama when he did those two movies. DMZ, he did not get paid if I am not wrong. He volunteered to go. Labor of love. I believe. Love DMZ.

Yeah he mentioned he likes to work with her in his interview. The two of them are tremendously popular on the international level too.

I cannot let go of LeeEul couple yet. I wish they play in a movie next. I read comments on Naver and K-netizens also express their love for the reunion of them in a movie project.

Did LMH really say that about working with Song Hye Kyo?  Was it a recent interview?  I know he is admires her as an actress since a long time ago. A fan of hers but he was always shy in front of her and awed. I saw a video long time ago where they were both at the same table and  did not see them talking with each other.  I would like him with Sunshine female lead.

@vangsweetie637 here's my guess at the ending:

    1.    LG and JTE get married, but they won't show us a wedding scene

    2.    LG is no longer King (I don't know how, but my first guess is that he abdicates), so JTE doesn't become Queen

    3.    They live in KOC but can freely go to both worlds

    4.    No one of significance dies

    5.    We get at least one hot kiss in the finale (if this doesn't happen, I will riot.  By myself.)

    The end.

I don't know how the hell that ending can happen, but I'm sticking with it.

She has finished filming it.  Or at least most of it.

KGE finished filming the movie while acting in King?  So she will be available to do a Season 2 for Netflix. :D

It must be his wardrobe that makes him look so good!

LMH is model for those clothes in King. Those clothes should be selling well. Women would buy them for their boyfriends after watchin TKEM.

The press are now officially labelling The King Eternal Monarch ''Netflix hit series'' but we all knew since first week that this show was a beast of it's own kind and going places. It really created a massive hype and wave. One of the most strange era's ever making this drama very unique because it has had a unique run

Anyone has press articles about this??   I would love to read them "King Netflix hit series"  I am curious why it is considered one of the most strange era ever and therefore unique drama?  Because it is first Kdrama to make waves in Netflix or something else? Parallel universes are not unique stories. Has been done before.

Guess what? I learned from our friend @lyrically aesthetic who lives in South Korea that Wavve airs TKEM at the same time SBS airs TKEM. We’ve been wondering where the audience has disappeared to. They’re on Wavve! Lol.

If 8% is around 1.5 million people and Wavve has 15? million people, then can’t we assume at least 1.5 million people are watching on Wavve? Lol. In my head, TKEM is scoring 16% without us knowing

@lyrically aestheticis from SK? Great, she can give us updates on SK and translate articles there.

So Wavve airs at the same time as SBS but they don't include that? Don't they have stats?

"The King" has been ranked No. 1 in Wavve drama popularity for 7 weeks since its airing. As the storyline reached its peak toward the final episode, "The King" Wavve VOD viewing time increased by about 25% compared to the previous week. http://it.chosun.com/site/data/html_dir/2020/06/09/2020060900625.html

It says 25% more so should that not be higher than 8%. or 1.5 million viewers and  if it is #1 on Wavve should it not rate higher than 8%?  Need mathematician

What is Good Data?  Is that Korean too?  It is #1 here as well King and LMH. So King should be huge hit in SK.

For me personally, it’s the latter. I’m just not in the mood anymore. I’m depressed :bawling: I actually wish Friday won’t come so soon. I might skip out on live streaming this week and who knows, might not watch the last episode until a week later hahahaha. Good luck avoiding spoilers, self. Lol.

Better late than never. Imagine once it airs in Europe later this month, it’ll be an even bigger international hit!

Do you think it will create a splash in Europe? Western or Eastern Europe?  It is not a hit in US or Canada though.

So here are my questions and thoughts

    • So what if the last despite plan involves both JTE and the KIng going back to the only place where they know the flute exist in history which would be the day that Lady Noh left at the time of Korea during the war to go to the KOC. JTE knows the details of when Lady Noh left and from where  (that would be around the time of the spoiler pictures)

Now I am not saying any of this will happen but what if……...

You theory here sounds interesting. Might explain why they went back to 1950s

I think I asked this question many many pages ago, but typically these lead actors only do one project a year right?  As it's nearly impossible to jump into a new series right away after a long shoot.

Some actors have done 2 shows a year, after a couple of months break, they start another. I know of a few that do this so that have many more dramas than LMH. He likes to take his time somehow or other, much to our frustration :D. So not sure if he has picked another after TKEM.

@CarolynHI'm sure this has been asked and answered, but why did LG announce Se Jin (sp?) as his heir?  He knew that LL would hurt people close to him.

Near the end of Episode 15. He was planning to go back to night of treason and thought he might not return so he announced his heir. It was after LR was interrogated by JTE and he said LG and PM will have hell.

FYI I just went to Costco in the US - the PPL kimchi, my spitting image, is now available.

It’s infiltrating my every day life.

I wish The Alley would infiltrate, but it’s only in SoCal.  The crunchy cereal one looks so good.

Is the Costco PPL kimchi huge (everything there is huge) and where do you find it?  Do you like it?  I am going there soon and want to look for it :D

I'll give an equal sign but I just can't give up the Imja couple! CY and LG are such different characters, not only personality-wise but their maturity level, it's hard for me to compare. But all four characters are fierce warriors in their own way. Sigh.

Agreed, LG and CY are such different characters and their romance is also different. Both couples are adorable.

How can they say King has low ratings in SK when it is the most searched drama in Korea??? It is #2 in Netflix SK and # 1 in Wavve. I just can't phantom their blindness in only concentrating on Public TV ratings and nothing else. Top 20 in Netflix International. It is a blockbuster.

The amount of times I replied that scene is embarrassing lol! I got giddy over thumb rubbing moment. What is wrong with me? Yes... I am with you, this OTP will be and is the death of me.

Their quite moments are some of the best , if not, the best in kdrama. So vulnerable, real and rip your heart out. I cried over that scene, and it was the first time I cried over kdrama since autumn in my heart. And I don’t cry easily.

When Lmh mentioned That he will

be the king of romance, I thought it will be the signature KES fluff romance. While it has some of the fluff romance, I feel like what makes him the king of romance is the person that LG is, he wear his heart on his sleeve, straightforward, honest and he love unconditionally. His devotion to JTE is so sweet to watch, and let’s not forget to mention LG is one heck of a good kisser and once he gets in his “inconsiderate” mode... he is hawtttt!!!!.

In my opinion the king and mr, sunshine is the best romance KES wrote so far.

Which scene is it where the OTP rubbed thumbs?  I missed it :o

Did LMH ever say that he will be the King of Romance??? When?
