I finished watching episodes 5 and 6 today. In that scene where the two leads decided to wear traditional garments, I wished SHJ wore a gisaeng costume for a more dramatic effect. Such a pity that scene could have been so much funnier. 

 

This is the first time that I find the second female lead more interesting as a character for me.

 

I also really like the male lead's quiet personality and curious as to why he married the celebrity in the first place. 

 

The other male lead is doing a good job as well. As Dr. Ian Chase, he is nothing like Chae Jun.  One is warm and makes me smile with his cheesy lines while the other one is like a dark hole. To be honest, I miss CJ's character. 

 

I  wonder why the mom still looks so young. If she was in her twenties when she got married, she would have been in her fifties by now. But she still looks the same...

 

I can't help but compare YAMS with another drama where the female lead was abandoned by her mom at an orphanage when she was a little girl. That drama managed to balance well the comedy and murder suspense. 

 

I'm not sure if the problem points to the main writer or the directing but there is something lacking.  And I can't pinpoint exactly what it is but I had a hard time finishing episode 5. It started well but halfway I felt too sleepy to watch and had to stop and rewatch later. 

 

Someone from one site mentioned SHJ seems to be in her comfort zone and I think I agree with that. 

 

Despite my disappointment with her character, will still continue watching since I really like both main and supporting cast.

You Are My Spring: Episodes 5-6 Open Thread

As life settles back to normal, our leads find they’ve gotten used to each other’s company, and begin to seek each other out. Though unanswered questions remain around the mysterious death and the new stranger in town, the story quiets down. But are our characters getting lured into a false sense of security?

We open with the delicious twisty moment we ended on last week — Young-do meeting Ian Chase at the site of his doppelgänger’s death. It might be creepy and odd, but Ian is able to explain it away and doesn’t give Young-do an inch. But Ian is clearly more invested in things than he wants to let on, and this week we see a lot of flashbacks to his and Choi Jung-min’s childhood and teenage years. The flashbacks all but guarantee us that they were twins, were brutalized by the cult, were sold off as orphans, and one (or both?) of them were involved in violence.

In between sections of Ian being dark, creepy, and digging into his and Choi Jung-min’s past, this week’s episodes mostly focus on Young-do and Da-jung, and feel a bit lighter. The dialogue and moments between these two continue to impress, and it’s as fun to watch the actors play off each other (Seo Hyun-jin in mock horror when asked if she wants ramyeon!), as it is watching the characters grow closer.

 

Their relationship goes from happenstance and unvoiced interest in each other, to something much more intentional — and even verbalized. Da-jung says she feels “a strange closeness” to Young-do, and as for Young-do, he goes out on a limb that reveals his growing feelings for her.

When they get a freak snowstorm, rather than go home, Young-do runs up to the roof to meet up with Da-jung. It’s a direct reference to their prior conversation, and Da-jung’s idea that snow let’s you excuse crazy things. His running to meet her, and asking what crazy thing she wants to do, is such a Moment. Their bond only grows from there, whether they are running around late at night in hanbok drag, teasing each other, or having deep talks.

 

One thing I really like about this drama is its moments of detail and psychological insight. We see so much how actions and circumstances affect our characters’ psyches — even all of our supporting characters.For instance, we take a nice dive into Ga-young’s character this week. She can’t deal with her idol boyfriend’s confession, and she runs and hides. Quite literally. She gloms onto Da-jung of all people, demanding a ride, and then a place to stay, finally crashing at her apartment.

Nam Gyu Ri and Seo Hyun Jin will have a surprisingly tearful heart-to-heart in the next episode of tvN’s “You Are My Spring.”

 

“You Are My Spring” is a drama about a group of people who live in an apartment where a murder took place. Although they are all adults, they still carry their seven-year-old selves in their hearts.

In the previous episode, Kang Da Jung (Seo Hyun Jin) and Ahn Ga Young (Nam Gyu Ri) unexpectedly became roommates after Ahn Ga Young got into Kang Da Jung’s car to escape from Patrick (Park Sang Nam), who was declaring his love for her. Since Kang Da Jung had nowhere else to go, she ended up bringing the other woman to her own house. Kang Da Jung gave Ahn Ga Young some clothes and Ahn Ga Young ended up bunking down on Kang Da Jung’s couch.

In the stills for next episode, the two women have a tearful heart-to-heart on the roof. Both women are similar in having quirky and unpredictable interiors under their beautiful exteriors, but they open up to each other for the first time in this scene. Ahn Ga Young offers Kang Da Jung a beer on the rooftop patio, much to the other woman’s surprise. To her greater shock, Ahn Ga Young begins to share her inner thoughts with Kang Da Jung, eventually breaking out in tears. Kang Da Jung respond with calm sympathy, forging a bond between the two women.

To film this scene, Nam Gyu Ri and Seo Hyun Jin sat across from each other for a long time reviewing small details. Nam Gyu Ri thought long and hard about to naturally express sadness in a character that has only shown a bright and refreshing side until now, while Seo Hyun Jin focused on showing sincere sympathy as well as subtle but difficult emotions.

The production company stated, “Seo Hyun Jin and Nam Gyu Ri are amazing actors not only in their passion for the project but also in their respect and affection for each other. Please look forward to the change in Kang Da Jung and Ahn Ga Young’s ‘womance’ as they go from rivals to partners.”

This episode of “You Are My Spring” will air on July 26 at 9 p.m. KST.
