Love is indeed a splendid thing, especially when it comes to K-dramas. From slow burn romances to laugh out loud rom-coms, fantastical tales of love and longing to bittersweet slice of life love stories, there is something in it for everyone.

 

From an eternal being’s search for his human bride, to love beyond enemy lines, and the toe curling CEO and secretary romances, these love stories have made viewers believe and fall in love all over again. Here are seven K-drama picks to watch if you want to bring back that loving feeling, especially during this Valentine’s Day.
 

 

“Crash Landing On You”

 Imagine a freak accident which lands you in so-called enemy territory and straight into the arms of a good-looking knight in shining armor! One of the most popular dramas, the global hit “Crash Landing On You” often comes first when you talk about favorite romantic dramas of all time.

 

Yoon Se Ri (Son Ye Jin), the super successful CEO of Se Ri’s Choice, is literally blown away to North Korea while promoting one of her brands. As fate would have it, she is rescued by the handsome Captain Ri Jeong Hyuk (Hyun Bin), who is on border patrol duty. Realizing her arrival not only spells danger but would also translate into a diplomatic crisis, Captain Ri shields and protects Se Ri along with his unit. The two star-crossed lovers defy bullets and political intrigues, including family manipulations, to keep their relationship alive.

 

“Crash Landing On You” came with several heart melting moments. Whether it was Capt Riain cooking for Se Ri, tying her hair, or scheduling yearly messages so that she did not feel his absence, he was a man everyone wanted for keeps. Son Ye Jin and Hyun Bin also became everyone’s poster couple, and when the reel translated into real, it was a dream come true for fans.

Netflix offers more Korean dramas than any other streaming service. What's their secret sauce?

 

Slowly but steadfastly over a period of years, Netflix rose to become the symbol of the accessible K-Drama. The streaming giant's immense selection of Korean Drama titles offers international fans, as well as a rapidly-growing number of South Korean subscribers, the easiest way to watch the most popular Korean series on the market. Other platforms such as Disney+ and Apple TV+ leaped onto the profit bandwagon by financing their own original K-Dramas (see Snowdrop and Pachinko, respectively), but there are key reasons why Netflix retains their edge in the quantity and quality. And despite controversial price hikes, subscription tiers, and crackdowns on password sharing, there's little to indicate Netflix will lose this advantage.

 

 

The Korean Company Studio Dragon Played a Big Role

 

 

That same year 2019, Netflix announced a three-year partnership with Korea's largest entertainment company, CJ ENM, and the company's subsidiary, Studio Dragon. The deal allows Netflix to host some of the studio's back catalog and guarantees them streaming rights to currently airing and upcoming titles. Combined, those dramas constitute the bulk of Netflix's Korean selection; if you've ever watched a Netflix K-Drama, chances are the Studio Dragon logo preceded the credits. Their name is synonymous with some of the largestdomestic and international hits of the last six years: Crash Landing on You, Sweet Home, The King: Eternal Monarch, Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, Goblin: The Lonely and Great God, Mr. Sunshine, Hotel del Luna, It's Okay to Not Be Okay, and Vincenzo. They also produced some of the biggest hits of 2022, like Business Proposal, Twenty Five Twenty One, Our Blues, Little Women, Extraordinary Attorney Woo, and Alchemy of Souls.

‘Crash Landing on You’ as NFT… MOU with Crypto.com and Studio Dragon

[Digital Daily Reporter Park Se-ah] Crypto.com, a virtual asset platform , announced on the 6th that it signed a business agreement ( MOU ) with Studio Dragon and actively supports the advancement of K- content non-fungible tokens (hereinafter referred to as NFTs ). Crypto.com signed an MOU with Studio Dragon, a domestic drama studio, in August and cooperates to introduce NFTs as drama intellectual property rights ( IP ) . As the first project of this partnership, the two companies plan to release collaboration editions of Studio Dragon DearRo and global popular dramas 'Crash Landing on You' and 'Startup' through NFT drop on the 8th. Dear is a studio dragon art toy designed with the motif of a dragon who loves K- dramas. Even after the release of this NFT collection, 500 NFTs containing Dearo characters andglobal drama IP2 and the entire collection of 6 main character costume cards will be released sequentially. 
 

Here, new K- dramas and collaborations are introduced every quarter . Patrick Yoon, CEO of Crypto.com Korea, said, “ Through the business agreement with Studio Dragon, which leads K- drama, we plan to discover new ways for fans around the world to experience K- content.” Through collaboration with production companies, we will take the lead in promoting domestic culture and art to our 80 million users.”

[2020/02/12]  3 years ago today Vast staff visited Hyun Bin on his last day of <Crash Landing On You> filming site with cake and flowers to congratulate him on wrapping up the drama successfully after 6 months of intensive demanding schedule. Despite being tired and sick on set, he wrapped up his last scene well into midnight  at 12:12AM (KST) on the 13th.

Crash Landing on You on Netflix! I got around to watching Crash Landing on You in early 2021 and was instantly hooked by the premise: A young South Korean corporate girlboss accidentally paraglides over into North Korea, where a very dutiful, very handsome army officer must decide if he will help her hide and get home. It’s a classic forbidden-love situation with some next-level international relations and K-drama tropes stirred in, but the actors who play the leads, Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin, have the kind of chemistry that makes you believe in real fairy-tale love.
