Some might dislike the time jumps but I for one love each one of them for different reasons because they suit the whole narrative and express what the characters are going through, especially the 3-year time jump. It perfectly underscores the THE THREE main themes of the entire story - ENDURING LOVE. From the very beginning, the SoSoo love story has been a ROMANCE DEFINED BY SEPARATION AND TRANSCENDING TIME (divided by 1000 years) AND SPACE, so it’s only apt that they would be separated by long distances for long periods of time - it’s the perfect symbolism. A LOVE ISN’T DEFINED BY THE TIME THEY SPENT TOGETHER BUT BY ITS CONSTANCY AND STRENGTH.

“I will wait for you.” 

That’s inseparably connected with the theme OF WAITING - because all those years both of them have been waiting for each other, even though THEY DIDN’T MAKE ANY PROMISES NOR VOWS TO EACH OTHER, they were given no hope by the other person, but THEY’VE BEEN WAITING ANYWAY - LOYALLY, FAITHFULLY, STAYING TRUE TO EACH OTHER, THEIR LOVE FOR EACH OTHER NEVER WAVERING. If a love can stand the TEST OF TIME AND SEPARATION, it will last forever.

“I guess you really have forgotten about me.” 

And finally, there comes the theme of NOT FORGETTING/REMEMBERING and it’s impossibly powerful because we have a man here who used to always tell this woman that she should forget it all and she later told him to forget her, but BOTH HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO FORGET EACH OTHER, NO MATTER HOW HARD THEY TRIED - THEY REMEMBER EVERY WORD, EVERY TOUCH, EVERY TEAR, even memories from 7 years ago when they barely knew each other… They have been LIVING ON THESE MEMORIES - they are what KEPT THEM ALIVE ALL THIS WHILE. They are engraved in their skins and hearts, just like their physical scars that will never disappear. HS kept the poem as a token, just like So kept the lotus hairpin with him when he’d left for Later Jin. Wang So can never forget Soo because everything in this world reminds him of her - the stars in the sky, the wind he feels when he rides his horse, the whisper of waves,… I mean, EVEN AFTER 3 YEARS HE STILL COLOR-COORDINATES HIS CLOTHES WITH HER SANGGOONG UNIFORM!

“Are you sleeping well? Eating well? Do you still… resent me?” 

That backhug speaks of such a deep longing and desperation and it’s the thought that she might lose So forever, that he is once again leaving her and she doesn’t know if she would ever see him again, which spurs her into action. IT’S A DESPERATE ACT OF TRYING TO KEEP HIM WITH HER. And he tries to numb himself everytime he is around HS, but is failing miserably. It’s an unbearable torture for him to feel the warmth of her whole body against his own, her arms holding him - THE TOUCH HE’S BEEN STARVED FOR AND DREAMING ABOUT FOR 3 YEARS.

Hello eclipses!  I finally have a time to indulge myself completely in a world full of wang so my moon lovers addiction, now that I've submit my project report to my supervisor! YIPPIE! So many things happened in episode 16 that probably holds more subtle meaning that urges me to do the double take, so I will saved it for later, maybe after I've done re-watch the episode. But now I would focus to one thing only..

THE ACCURACY OF HAESOO'S PREMONITIONS

With the devastating death of wang eun, we learned how the reality materialized exactly like her visions. We might guess correctly that the deed was done out of compassion, to sent him off in a more appropriate way as a prince, to end his suffering and honor his last wishes to reunite with his wife through merciful death, and it was all true. However, nothing changed. Every little terrifying details she saw in her premonition happened as is. And she has to carried that burden of guilt, remorse and regrets all on her own, fully acknowledged her failure to changed the situation for the better. She knew she messed up. Not only she failed to protect wang eun, worse, her very action to cover the truth deeply hurt wang so. (I will explain how I feel about eun's death in better details on my next post, after I re-watch the particular scenes and its build up, in order to cut this one short as it was not the specifics I would like to pinpoint right now)

By now, at least 4 of her premonitions already came true:

(i) Her staring and standing in empty throne room wearing musuri clothes.

 

(ii) Taejo's dying moment

(iii) Wang mu's died being drowned

(iv) Wang eun's fate to be killed by wang so

With this revelation, she no longer could questioned the validity of her premonitions and disregard them as a mere delusion anymore. No matter how absurd it look like, at this point she knew her vision did have a prophetic nature and happens for real. What's even more bitter pill to swallow is the fact that she knew there was nothing she could do to stop it or change it.

But then there was JIMONG. The moment he confess that he was not expected WY to become a king at all and his star was only meant to be traitor, I gasp. Woah. What a brilliant way to re-introduce HS’s exact role in history and the meaning of her own premonitions.. It means from his point of view, the history already been altered and there was certain variable that he did not calculate before. And we all know it was HS’s presence that throws unpredictable elements and slightly adjust the course of events in history. But I think there was a certain limitation of the change she made, as she could not hinder anyone to their destiny, she just slightly altered the circumstances and motivation surrounding events in history but the final outcome would relatively be the same. Even for WY’s fate, although he surprisingly managed to become a King, he took that through rebellion from the rightful heir, so history could still label him as a traitor. 

After this episode, what I found even more surprising than the level of accuracy of her premonition was the fact that SHE ACTUALLY WITNESS ALL OF THAT HERSELF. So far, everything happened right in front of her eyes. Which might proved the old theory I'm leaning on about the nature of her time travel itself as part of her destiny and karma to be wang so’s fated lover, that send her to an infinite loop of time as haesoo/go hajin, which might explain why she encounter all of this flashes of image that related to wang so’s pathway to become a king. Since now we know for sure that she experienced it herself, most likely all of the visions she had was a fragment of her sub-conscious memory, a knowledge she obtained after being sent back to the past through solar eclipse.

Now with only four episodes left, there are two of her premonition that still not yet happen in the drama:

• The death of wang yo. IF the writer keep the consistency of their narrative, Hae Soo should be there and witness his last moment. She might even play a key part on wang so's successful ascension to the throne by holding the secret of his death or keeping his last decree, just like what she did for taejo before. Which might explain why in the preview evil queen was furious to her and even accusing her stealing the crown from her son (jung).
• The glimpse of future gwangjong looking evil wearing a king's garb. This visions occurred in the place where they held rain rituals after wang so successfully brought out the rain. IF I have to make some loose prediction about this, taking into account his facial expression (he was sporting this smug look of confidence, standing there looking mighty, powerful and dangerous), it was probably related to 9th prince and chaeryung's public execution. Since the location itself was rather odd, it was in outer part of the palace closer to the public area that somewhat consider as the most accessible part of the palace where crowd usually gathers around. Then maybe, it should involved the public, right? And hae soo would be standing there witnessing from afar his ruthless behavior which drift them further apart. (gosh..what should I do to prepare my heart from devastating future of my precious OTP's relationship..? )

On the lighter note, my favorite OST of this drama @LyraYoo:

1. Epik High feat Lee Hi, Can you hear my heart?

2. Tied between Forgetting You by Davichi and Wind by Jung Sung Hwan

3. Tied between My Love by Lee Hi and A lot like love by Baek Ah Yeon.

Honestly Will be back by Sun Hae Im is such a beautiful and heart-wrenching song that needs to be praised to the high heavens, as it really tucks your emotions even without fully grasping it's lyrical meaning, however I avoid listen to it often on my playlist (even go as far as skip it) because it is such a depressing song that capable ruining my mood for the day.

Gotta give it to EXO-L's, they are so fast at updating performances of EXO, and very, very energetic at cheering on EXO, hehehehe  Here's EXO Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin performing Moon Lovers OST "For You" in Busan One Asia Festival, apparently Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin are the only EXO members that attended the festival. Unfortunately this is not a full video though, I'll post again when I found the full performances.

She knows the history that is fixed ... JiMong said (after Yo pushed Mo from the throne) that he (Yo) was not surposed to be there, but I guess as Soo knows So was the 4th king, so I guess JM knew about an alternative future, that happen when he slipped ... in JMs eyes did Soo already change the future. Most people (past-present-future) do not really care for the reason. The result is, that WS killed his brother and whoever writes down the events might also see him as the killer of Mo ad Yo. That he did kill Eun because Yo told him and Eun begged him in none of their concern. Look as Jung, he stood next to them, he SAW that Yo shot the arrows, that So stood before Eun and held him. He probably even heard parts or all of what Eun said and still. In Jungs eyes did So kill his brother with one stroke and laughed his head of.
He knows better, but still resents So. In case Jung will write down the history he will betray So as a merciless brother-killing monster ... no more no less
