"Squid Game 2" is expected to return in 2024! Director Hwang Dong Hyuk: "Lee Jung Jae and Lee Byung Hun will continue to perform for the second season"  The whereabouts of Jung Ho Yeon’s Kang Sae Byeoh?

spacer.png

When Director Hwang Dong Hyuk of "Squid Game" mentioned the much-anticipated Netflix "Squid Game 2”; in addition to revealing that it is expected to be released in 2024, he also mentioned the main actors, including the familiar No. 456 Lee Jung Jae, Front Man  Lee Byung Hun will appear.  But will Jung Ho Yeon, who was already out in the first season, has a chance to appear again?

spacer.png

Director Hwang Dong Hyuk and actor Park Hae Soo recently appeared on the American show "Deadline Contenders Television", and mentioned that “Seong Gi  Hun  (played by Lee Jung Jae) will definitely appear in the second season, and I believe Front Man (played by Lee Byung Hun) will also come back. "Seong Gi  Hun, played by Lee Jung Jae, has hinted that he is coming back at the end of the first season. He also said in a previous interview: "I hope to perform with Lee Byung Hun in the second season." This is the first time that Lee Byung Hun hun has been mentioned by the director that he is about to return.

Earlier, director Huang Dong Hyuk talked to reporters about the role of Kang Sae Byeok  played by Jung Ho Yeon on the red carpet of the PGA Awards (Producer's Guild of America Awards) ceremony in the United States in March, and joked to overseas reporters: "What if Kang Sae Byeok ’s character is set to be a twin? ?" Although it's just a joke, considering Jung Ho Yeon's current popularity in the world, although Kang Sae Byeok died in the first season, it is not impossible for her to play another role in the second season.

Director Huang Donghe also mentioned that for works like "Squid Game", he hopes that American audiences will have the opportunity to read the subtitles and not watch the dubbed version.  (Korean original sound). Regarding his next work, "Killing the Old Man's Club", he said that this project must take into account political polarization, cultural differences and dilemmas, and changes in the real environment and climate, etc. He will observe and continue to produce these themes in the future. . "Squid Game 2" is scheduled to meet audiences in 2024.

  • This ensemble K-drama series, set on Korea’s famous Jeju Island, is a Love Actually-like collection of romances

Kim Woo-bin in a still from Netflix K-drama Our Blues, set on South Korea's famous Jeju Island

This article contains minor spoilers.

With the cherry trees in full bloom, spring is well and truly in the air, and ushering in the fragrant new season in grand fashion is the Korean drama series Our Blues.

From revered writer Noh Hee-gyoung, known for tender, character-driven dramas such as Dear My Friends and Live, this ensemble romance is set on the South Korean holiday island of Jeju.

The combination of cast and writer has made the show a sure-fire hit straight out of the gate, with the highest premiere rating of any cable-TV drama shown in South Korea this year.

Lee Byung-hun is back as a small-screen lead for the first time since Mr Sunshine, Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha’s Shin Min-a looks to have picked another hit, and Kim Woo-bin makes his long-awaited return to acting, five years after being diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer; now recovered, Kim was last seen in the 2016 film Master.

But while these three big names, and others, are already dancing around the fringes, Our Blues begins its overlapping tales of romance, reminiscent of the film Love Actually, with that of Choi Han-su (Cha Seung-won) and Jung Eun-hui (Lee Jung-hyun).

Choi is a bank manager in a city on the Korean mainland, who is struggling to keep the wolves from the door as he drives himself into debt paying for his daughter’s training to become a pro golfer in America.

He’s transferred to a branch in Seogwipo on Jeju Island, his hometown, where he reconnects with his first love, Jung, who has made a fortune as an earthy fishmonger.

Soon after we first meet Choi hustling on the street, he stubs his toe so seriously that he’s forced to peel off a broken nail and walk around the bank in a sandal, surely a nod to Cha’s perpetually sandal-wearing, eczema-suffering lawyer in last year’s One Ordinary Day.

spacer.png

Lee Jung-eun (left) and Cha Seung-won in a still from Our Blues.

While Choi nurses his stubbed toe, in episode two, after welcoming Jung to his flat, he fusses over her cut finger, which she injured slicing off fish heads.

Choi dresses her minor wound, which might seem like a touching gesture except that we already know he’s seriously considering a renewal of their relationship – to get his hands on some of her money.

Although for different reasons, one financial, the other emotional, Choi and Jung are both wounded animals, and when pushed to the edge, a wounded animal thinks only of self-preservation.

We can see what that means for Choi, but how will Jung-hui react if and when she finds out she’s being led on by her childhood crush?

While this story, which will soon include Jung-hui’s friend Go Mi-ran (Uhm Jung-hwa), who is also about to return home from the mainland, takes up the lion’s share of Our Blues’ first two episodes, we also get a look at the rest of the community, catch hints of other love stories or witness the seeds of new romances sprouting.

These include one involving Lee Young-Ok (Han Ji-min), one of Jeju’s famous haenyeo divers (women who go below the waves to harvest seafood and seaweed), a bright young woman who also moonlights at a small eatery.

The handsome but somewhat taciturn captain of her boat is Park Jeong-joon (Kim Woo-bin), who is clearly interested in Young-Ok but isn’t sure if her behaviour towards him is part of her flirty demeanour or something more intentional.

spacer.png

Shin Min-a (left) and Lee Byung-hun in a still from Our Blues.

Then there’s Lee Dong-seok (Lee Byung-hun), another Jeju native who drives a truck around the island selling wares and produce. Local viewers will get a kick out of seeing superstar Lee recording the names of items for his loudspeaker, just like the recorded merchant’s voices that drift in and out of earshot as the little trucks totter up and down the island’s streets.

Lee, who we meet dozing behind the wheel on the ferry, has a nasty temper behind his outgoing salesman persona, which a group of middle-aged local women soon discover as he throws a tantrum upon hearing that they’ve been buying from another truck.

He shows similar behaviour in a flashback from seven years earlier. The scene begins in idyllic fashion, with Lee behind the wheel of a red convertible, which is tearing across a beach at night, with the beautiful and beaming Min Seon-ah (Shin Min-a) by his side.

It’s worth mentioning that Lee and Shin last shared the screen 17 years ago in the action noir classic A Bittersweet Life.

Cha Seung-won in a still from Our Blues.

As dawn breaks Lee leans in for a kiss, after which Min becomes reserved and decides she wants to go home. Lee, who feels entitled to more, doesn’t respond well and displays somewhat toxic behaviour, which the show does point out as a character flaw.

The beautiful Jeju location and wonderful performances, aided by Noh’s naturalistic dialogue, make Our Blues an easy ride that gets off to a strong start. The Choi and Jung storyline is quite compelling, mixing nostalgia with life’s disappointments.

Hopefully the coming weeks will unspool tales that are just as engrossing in the series’ other threads.

The funny side of Lee Byung Hun

Actor Lee Byung Hun is fully demonstrating his hidden comic instincts. He is the main character who makes tvN's Saturday drama 'Our Blues' even hotter.

Lee Byung Hun tried to transform his acting by taking on the role of Lee Dong Seok, a truck dealer in 'Our Blues', which was first broadcast on the 9th. He, who won the title of 'trust and see' with his thick acting, is putting down his weight and acting as a legend with a different meaning in this work.

‘Our Blues’ is an omnibus drama with 14 main characters set in Jeju. For this reason, the main characters in episodes 1 and 2 were Cha Seung Won (Choi Han Soo) and Lee Jung  Eun (Jung Eun Hee). Lee Byung Hun only appeared briefly as the main character of a romance with Shin Min Ah (Min Seon Ah), a truck dealer who traverses the alleys.

Screenshot_2022-04-13_at_11.03.59_PM.png

But his presence was overwhelming. He freely used the Jeju dialect like a native and performed realistic acting, and while wearing work pants, he transformed into an all-round merchant in a truck and robbed his eyes. Lee Byung-hun, who appeared as a junior of Cha Seung Won and Lee Jung Eun  in the 2nd reunion scene, and showed off his dance moves, was a scene stealer himself.

It is  hard to imagine how much he wanted to do comic acting during that time. Even before his full-fledged episode appeared, ‘Our Blues’ was already enriched with Lee Byung Hun’s extraordinary presence. This is the part where writer Noh Hee Kyung nodded her head as to why she had to unconditionally cast him for the role of Lee Dong Seok.

spacer.png

Behind-the-scenes cuts are also not to be missed. On the 13th, on the official Instagram of the tvN drama, four cuts of the lives of the actors of 'Our Blues' for the fan event were released. In the photo, Lee Byung-hun is wearing ridiculous glasses and exuding a unique presence. He is wearing a suit, so his natural handsomeness is still there, but his comic instinct is dripping out.

This is even more so compared to Shin Min Ah, who wears the same glasses, putting on cuteness, and Cha Seung Won, Lee Jung Eun, Han Ji Min, Kim Woo Bin, and Uhm Jung Hwa are making serious expressions.  If her wife Lee Min Jung  had seen him, she would have left a comment asking for restraint.   However his fans are more than happy to welcome this funny Lee Byung Hun

Episodes 3 and 4 of 'Our Blues', scheduled to air on the 16th and 17th, will be filled with episodes of Han Ji Min and Kim Woo Bin. However, Lee Byung Hun will also appear at the right place to provide unexpected fun.  Here's why we should watch 'Our Blues'.

Lee Byung-hun, who is openly funny, does not come every day.

@peonie , thank you Barbara for the continuous sharing of Our Blues here & at the drama thread. Really appreciate all the updates. I've seen the first two episodes.. undoubtedly (as a couple) LBH and SMA do look compatible together even after their Beautiful Days & A Bittersweet Life history. It's just me though.. can't help thinking of Everyone Has a Secret seeing the car on the beach scene plus a glimpse of Minchul-Yeonsoo beach hugging scene while Cha Seung Won's pitiful goose father character resembles Kang Jae Hoon in A Single Rider. Anyway, we haven't seen much of LBH yet but he sure has a temperament which might have resulted from/affected his relationships with SMA and Kim Hye Ja. The two veteran elder actresses are simply adorable, they're like good friends taking care and complementing each other. Watching Lee Jung Eun is also a delight.. it'll be great seeing her acting with LBH again after Mr. Sunshine.

Seems like there's not much MJBH news in the US (finally they have a break together after finishing the drama filming).. there were no pics of them at the recent wedding either. However, Byunghun posted a nice b&w photo of himself earlier this week. Minjung could be busy for a pictorial as she is likely modelling/endorsing golf apparel (?) for a golf magazine.

@rubie  Thank you for sharing your views on ‘Our Blues’ on the Lee Byung Hun thread.  Dong Suk’s beach scene with Min Ah reminded me so much of the Min Chul and Yeon Soo beach scene in ‘Beautiful Days’.  I nearly cried when Min Ah rejected Dong Suk.  Since Dong Suk clearly stated that he does not speak to his mother anymore, I guess we have to wait till the later episodes to find out why.  I really enjoy the acting of veteran actors and actresses.  They have so much depth.

I am not familiar with Lee Jung Eun until I see her in ‘Mr. Sunshine’.  What an amazing actress!  I love her in ‘Once Again’, ‘When the Camellia Blooms’ and ‘Hometown Cha Cha Cha.’   Lee Jung Eun, Cha Seung Won and lee Byung Hun have the same age.  While Lee Jung Eun and Cha Seung Won have aged graciously, Lee Byung Hun looked at least 10 years younger.

I also enjoyed the cinematography and the writers’s choice of casting actors and actresses.  Looking forward to future episodes.

:hotinhere2:

Besides LJE, CSW and LBH, Uhm Jung Hwa is also around the same age.. she's in fact a year older than the trio. All of them are acclaimed movie actors just as Kim Hye Ja and Go Doo Shim. Lee Jung Eun in my opinion is like the female version of Yoo Hae Jin (CSW's partner & sidekick in Three Meals a Day), both being very versatile character actors in Korea. LJE was often the supporting cast in various dramas and movies until Mr. Sunshine and Parasite that she really stood out. So, it's nice to see her still going strong taking various roles in dramas.

:emmm:I didn't realize that you've posted the black & white photo of BH in the US.. I must have overlooked it in the numerous Our Blues updates. Many thanks to @Annelyse Court too for the great translated articles in the previous pages. We definitely appreciate the wonderful highlight.

Here's a previous interview and behind-the-scene clip from Our Blues posted on tvN's YT channel (link here). I'm not sure if it's been shared, maybe I had missed seeing it. Anyway, there's a confrontation scene between Dong Suk and his Omma at the market.. presumably to be shown in tonight's episode?

Hi to @luwali 196 @p.v.wong and everyone at the thread enjoying Our Blues. Hope more fans will drop by and talk about the drama here as well.. e.g. @Ephoenix @irilight @BlancheNeige :selfie:

Lee Byung Hun and Lee Min Jung were spotted at Incheon Airport returning from Los Angeles on April 20th. The couple went on a trip to the United States to attend the 2022 PGA Masters Tournament. As Son Ye Jin and Hyun Bin are also reportedly traveling in LA, fans are wondering if the couple had come across the Crash Landing On You stars by any chance.

Reports say that BTS’ RM was also spotted on the same plane as the couple. RM arrived at the airport a day later than the other members after wrapping up the April 16th concert Permission To Dance On Stage – Las Vegas at the Allegiant Stadium.

While a crowd of reporters tried to catch a glimpse of the idol star, the couple was seen walking out of the gate, being greeted by the reporters. The actress was spotted holding a duty-free shopping bag with Lee Byung Hun walking right next to her, carrying all the heavy luggage. He kindly escorted her to the car.

Meanwhile, the couple got married in 2013 and are parents to a son named Lee Joon Hoo. The male celebrity has been cast as Lee Dong Suk in tvN weekend drama Our Blues, while the female celebrity will make her big-screen comeback with a new movie named Christmas Gift.

Lee Byung Hun, Shin Min Ah, And More Face The World Head-On In “Our Blues” Posters

DRAMA PREVIEW

Apr 20, 2022

by S. Nam

tvN’s “Our Blues” released two new posters to preview the upcoming episodes!

“Our Blues” is an omnibus-style drama set in Jeju Island that tells the sweet, sour, and bitter life stories of a diverse array of characters.

Spoilers

Episode 5 will focus on the high school couple Jung Hyun (Bae Hyun Sung) and Bang Young Joo (Noh Yoon Seo), who are dating in secret from their fathers who hate each other. Furthermore, the following episode will highlight the story of Lee Dong Suk (Lee Byung Hun) and Min Sun Ah (Shin Min Ah) who reunite on Jeju Island.

In the first poster, Jung Hyun and Bang Young Joo act affectionately while being sandwiched between their fathers Jung In Kwon (Park Ji Hwan) and Bang Ho Shik (Choi Young Joon). The text on the poster reads, “What! Is love a crime?” conveying their fresh and energetic romance.

The previous episode showcased Jung Hyun and Bang Young Joo’s relationship growing tense, resulting in the two being at odds with each other in the preview for episode 5. Viewers are looking forward to finding out how the couple will overcome this crisis.

spacer.png

Another poster captures Lee Dong Suk and Min Sun Ah reuniting. The prologue for episode 2 briefly showcased the two meeting seven years ago. Lee Dong Suk thought that Min Sun Ah also had feelings for him and kissed her, only to be hurt as Min Sun Ah stated, “Me? I like you?” The next prologue of Min Sun Ah in episode 4 revealed that she is suffering from depression while raising a child.

In the poster, Lee Dong Suk wears a gaze of yearning as he looks at Min Sun Ah who has a lonely and melancholy expression while staring far off into the distance. The text reads, “Having lived a difficult life, I want to be happy if only to feel less wronged.” The two wounded people who want to become happy again will reunite, raising anticipation for their story to come.

The next episode of “Our Blues” will air on April 23 at 9:10 p.m. KST.
