[Drama 2013/2014] ♚ Empress Ki (기황후) ♚

@bellenelle you pose an interesting thought. I think political wise, I don't really see TH mistrusting SN, as a matter of fact I see him going to her for advice on political matters and such. The only way I see him ever questioning SN politics wise is if someone plays with TH's mind and begins to make him perceive that SN is in fact controlling him, and her actions are equivalent to ET's. TH told ET in the prison cell that he would take care of anyone that would try and take the throne from him like ET. If SN can be framed and made to appear she is trying to take away his sovereignty then it could cause a rift. (would the two-faced new empress play a possible role in this, hmmm. Maybe even ED)
What wouldn't want to see is a formation of insecurity over the fact she is helping Goryo. It is not like SN was born and raised in Yuan, nor did she spend most of her life in Yuan either. I know as a consort she is a citizen of Yuan but obviously she will always have a soft spot for Goryo and will always want to help her birth country. Him getting upset over the fact that she is helping Goryo, and linking it to her helping WY is a bit of a character regression on his part, because when he couldn't talk, he let SN meet WY one-on-one. But I guess he may never get over his insecurity over WY because that is her ex and seeing him will always tap on his fear of losing her. It is not odd that he would be worried, because old flames can be rekindled, but first something should occur to put a dent in his trust for her. At the moment they seem fairly solid and in tune with each other, I wonder what stupidity the writers will utilize to cause a rift between them.

Sidenote: wouldn't it be nice if TH serenaded SN with the new ost JCW is singing. We never seen TH play an instrument but that doesn't mean he can't nor does it mean he can't have a band playing for him in the background. He got the shadow puppet show set up with no problem, him having musicians play at the palace shouldn't be a feat either. I mean there have been worse inconsistencies like a fair skinned TN being slapped but her cheeks lacked a hand print or any sign of redness. Or how SN took off Maha's shoe but it was magically placed back on his foot, in time for his nanny to take him back (since when has it ever been that easy to put boots on a kid).

@cattx,............Good Morning.
@ hi, valsava...  actually a madam with the insight  ....EK is so worth watching, unlike you know (WF) ......I'd watch 100 eps of EK...   ...then again maybe not 50eps is plenty, although for some reason, I actually thought this was a 60eps drama........  ;)) ....my absolute favorite scene today, was El Temur...walking up to WY's 'clan' grinning from ear to ear  :D believing they were on his side and there to help Him...El Temur went from   to   .....I have thought a lot about specifically two scenes: Bayan's tears and El Temur's one last tear...a'round about the time He was on the floor about to met with his Maker....(well, not His Maker...because He surely was headed down towards El Inferno for his sins, and not up towards the Pearly Gates) ..and, I thought  Bayan's Tears...I actually was a bit put off with Temur's one last Tear because it seemed as if we were being 'asked' to have some type of sympathy for El Temur .....on the other hand, maybe it was to Humanize, El Temur??? And, I honestly didn't want to, which totally seems awful on my part...I just didn't want to forget that He had been a very power-hungry, evil man. As for Bayan's Tears, I'm trying to think of how a military man/general/warrior would think ...I know he looked up to El Temur at one time...It seems like a little bit had to do with that, but also the thought of who El Temur was and what he became...plus there is a bond between military men Bayan knew El Temur at his best and at his worst...it seems very appropriate that Bayan had to be the One that 'sent' El Temur to the afterlife.

I remember you and I both said that we would wait for the ending of a 50 ep drama to end before we would consider watching it because the ending are always so bad.
With that being said I couldn't resit as I'm a lover of these kinds of dramas so I have always lurk this thread on Sunday's it had become a ritual with me so I had got caught up on watching.
This last Episode was the bomb out all the one's I watched. But as I said before that the dowager worries me and I'm hoping that Sn do the right thing and send Maha with Wy. but who's to say we still have more dramatic scenes to I'll just kick back with the popcorn and take a backseat and just see what happens next even though I think our little empress needs to die a humiliated death for the public to see just for her being deceitful.

Good afternoon in my place. I know in Asia it is still dawn. I want a happy ending for empress ki for it will be a happy memory for me that will always remember. Actually I am planning to collect k drama story and play it again in a entertainment room so when I get old I will play all my favorite k drama and remember the moment that makes me happy and maybe watching with my daughter and grandchildren in the future. Who knows what is life ahead of us. Empress Ki fighting!

Most of you don't want Sn to become greedy but in the palace you have know other choice because it your not you will be ran over by all including the emperor you have to show you have the will to fight for what you want and what you believe in. So tell me empress has never went after greed and power it's the only way to survive in the palace.

HI EK lovers!

That SN is a real chameleon. She went from a convincing little tough guy to a pretty girlfriend to WY then to a beautiful and elegant consort (all the while being a great strategist).

Now back to being tough. How about that superbada@@ boss strut after dragging that crazy little TN out and down the hall. Be still my heart -having a little girl crush right now. Better always be good to her Paeha! You too Tal Tal.

I'm watching episode 37 with subs, and i have to admit that what Yeon Chul told Bayan is NOTHING WRONG. He said that people's hearts change and that even if they are now praising BA, they will eventually criticize him and curse him in the future. He also said that BA will become addicted to power (like ET).That was the ET curse... he can't leave completely and peacefully. Always has to throw some bomb, aigo.(in the upcoming episodes, we may see a rebellion led by Dangkise).

Awesome post, I agree with every word. This is the reason most "revenge" k-dramas are so unsatisfying to the audience: the villains get watered down, find religion & repent, get forgiven (because the "good guys" are such nice people) or we see them get carted off to jail, screaming they were framed and did nothing wrong. In the meantime, all their murders, attempted murders, and lies never see the light of day. So annoying.
I also hated that ET got a "warriors" death - ridiculous. Why was he even given one ounce of respect? (I loved it when he asked BA to bury TJ and TT was all like..."nope, not gonna happen" *hee*) I wanted a very public execution and his head on a pike outside the Palace. Him being allowed a last speech was also annoying, STFU and die. Ugh, I wasn't satisfied with his death at all and that has me not looking forward to Tanasmirky dying next week. I'm guessing they'll do the same soft song-n-dance around all her crimes.  8-|
Even in jail or during his speech, ET's utter contempt for everyone is clear - no remorse at all. He continues to laugh at everyone. Maybe...it was the writers attempt to show the huge difference between the evil ones and the good guys? The good guys have too much class to smirk and laugh?
@BettyS - YES! DK did say that! What the...okay, so which of you knew he had a wife & children?  :-w  (subs could possibly be wrong so don't hold me to it)DKep37.jpg

@rinchan76 - That would surprise me too (if TH suddenly got upset over SN wanting to help Goryeo) Back when they were on the beach, she asked him to stop using Goryeo people as slaves so it's not like he's unaware of her loyalty to Goryeo - he even agreed.
Whatever eventually causes a rift between them, I'll be surprised if it's anything to do with Goryeo.

Our Baby emperor is not a baby anymore. He has changed. So if SN become greedy or do something, I have a feeling that his reaction won't be same as before since he has become a little bit mature. That can make their relationship turn bad :(

Anyway I still hope that their chemistry will never change. If all the things that SN has done is just the love for her people & WY, but she has never love TH that will be too much for TH to bear. I really don't want to see that kind of ending.

I hope they will fight the new empress together just like they did to ET and also " Paeha pls don't fall for that new empress :(( I'm counting on you ;) "

:x

Alright, finally watched ep37 with Csubs.
Long post ahead.  Read on if you care :)
** I give up! The spoiler tags aren't working for me.
Disappointed that SN didn't get any action sequences, I was so expecting her to jump in and kill a couple of TJ's soldiers.  I'm just hoping it was always part of the plot for her not to fight, and not because HJW was not feeling well and wasn't in the condition to fight.
I will accept that she's now a consort and should not have to do the dirty work herself unless absolutely necessary.
Can I just say that Jang has brought himself to a whole new level of uselessness??  He's worst than TJ.
Just within this episode, first he's not able to even help lift a bag of rice, even the maid is stronger than him:bd77359bjw1eedh8zd3cug208w050e7k.gif

Then he hides behind HD.  Tsk, tsk, tsk.13110020275_4fe8693444_z.jpg

@yoonmi66 thank you! I feel the exact same way about that OST during the battle scenes.  I totally ruins the mood of the scene.  I'm just so thankful it was not used in the last two episodes.
Why in the world would anyone stop in the middle of a battle to give a darn speech?  Scenes like those I find are absolutely silly.  Your enemies are standing right in front of you, but you turn around to give a speech to your troops?  That should have been done before you even started.  And why the enemies just stood there waiting for the speech to finish beats me.
Oh Tanasmirky, even up till now you won't admit to your faults and sins.  She still upholds that she didn't commit any crimes, and has done nothing wrong in front of SN and ED.  Tsk, tsk, tsk.
Even before SN came to get her, she was telling YH to first check to see if SN was dead, if not make sure she brings SN to her alive so she can torture her.
Way to go HD!  She probably waited so long for that moment.  Is it just me, or does HD seem to have different make up on that makes her look more fierce, unlike in the previous episodes where she was more like the kind, timid maid.

How in the world did ET get to leave the palace walls?? I thought the palace was surrounded?  I was so expecting someone to just capture him right on the spot, but no they had to let him home and have one last conversation with WY.
I was not happy that he didn't get tied up and properly escorted back to the palace like a real criminal.  BA you failed there!
When ET tried have them take down TJ's corpse so that he won't be humuliated any further.  TT told him  it's the Emperor's orders, aka NO WAY!
DK tried to force his way into the capital as his father, wife and children are still there. Of course his troops are no match for all the governors now.
DK meets up with El Plague and uses him to look for his father's treasures.  Notice the look on El Plague's face when DK said he'd use that money to build a new troop, obviously that wasn't what El Plague had in mind.
I actually LOL'ed when HD told Tanasmirky that her father is scheduled to be executed that day, and then she was like 'Actually they're in the process right now'
I loved that scene with SN and ET in the jail/dungeon.  SN totally knocks him down by telling him that even without her, he still would have never be able to realize his dreams because the person, MaHa, who he had hoped to make the next Emperor is not Tanasmirky's son.  MaHa was an abandoned child she found and faked as her own.
Here we turn to a new chapter for SN.  I just hope we get to see some happy scenes for SN before she moves on to her quest for power.
@chrissydiva:
SN's words at the end of the episode:
"Yeon Cheol, you've pointed me to a bright path today.  As you are predicting, I will have my son rise to the throne, and become the Empress of this country.  I will place Goryeo people here.  I will personally rule this world." (actually she didn't say she'd rule Yuan, she said she'd rule the 'world' haha)

About ET:
Seriously, even after he realizes that WY had betrayed him, he is still trying to convince WY to help him leave the capital??  This man really is destined to be doom.
He basically tells WY that he really trusted him and was expecting WY to help MaHa when MaHa becomes the Emperor.  Ok, if you say so.
I for one thought that ET's ending could have been even worst.
For all the crimes he has committed against Yuan and the royal family, just letting him die like that in private (well semi-private) was not enough of a punishment.   He practically died in honour because BA said something about a warrior's honour so he will kill him without any bloodshed.  The fact that he died in the hands of another warrior was also a privilege to him.
I really wanted TH to order one of the eunuchs, or even a maid to kill him.
I hope that TH will order to have his corpse hang outside the palace gates for all the people to stone and yell at.
Why in the world did anyone let him talk so much right before he was executed?  No one bother to shut him up, TH just let him blab on. Ok, I'm going to let that slide because it's just a lead to the next stage of the drama.  Fine.

About ED:
Oh...well like I always said, ED is definitely going to be SN's next hurdle to cross.
ED has always wanted the powers within the inner courts, and even power to control TH.  This is no secret to the viewers.
Now that her biggest opponent is gone, she's realized her new opponent is easy opponent.  I don't think ED ever had any doubts about SN's ability, but when she saw how SN handled Tanasmirky in that last scene, she thought to herself about SN 'This child is highly capable...no, this child is scary'.
ET's words/warnings to her has already moved her as she already has the same thoughts about SN.
No way will she allow SN to be Empress, or Ayu to be crown prince.  ED has some influence over that.  Like she's done in the past, she will probably try to persuade the governor's to side with her.
And just as I had expected, she's going to use MaHa go to against SN and Ayu.

About BA (and TT):
BA probably hasn't really let ET's words affect him now, because as far as he's concern, SN is on his side, she's someone he 'chose' to help them.  Once things settle, and he starts to see all the changes (maybe SN persuading TH to allow more freedom and power to Goryeo), he'll start to change his mind for the name of Yuan.
Right before they locked up ET, BA said to TT 'He used to be my hero, I never would have thought he'd have an ending like this.'
TT responded back to tell him 'This is not the ending of a hero, this is the demise of a failure.  Uncle, please remember ET as an exmaple'
BA: 'I was the one who ended his path, how can I be so silly to repeat his path.'
TT is already forseeing how power will eventually corrupt one's mind.  He's already starting to warn BA to be careful.

SN is about complete her threat to DK.  DK will watch his father and sister died before him.
I think in the upcoming episode(s) we will see TH rewarding everyone who had helped defeat ET.  Promoting BA to ET's position, and even promoting all the consorts as a reward for their father's work.

If it goes by the novel, TH will initially spare Tanasmirky, but SN will persuade him to kill her.
SN will actually be the one to 'execute' Tanasmirky by giving her the poison wine.  Oh...if that happens I really hope they have some good dialogues for SN.

EP38 Preview:
DS: MaHa will revenge for me.ED: Performing small tricks and politics are completely different games.  Rash actions will become like poison.TH: You still have not changed.DS: Please kill me, kill me!TH: Very soon poison will be granted.DS: I hate you WY!  WY: Hate me as you wish.
Last thing.  I'm not sure how Korean royal courts are like in those areas, but in China, from my knowledge, the women would almost never be allowed in the courts when official business is being discussed.  So those many scenes where SN/DS/ED were around when TH was in the hall/court with the governors/officials, you almost would never see it in a proper C-historical drama.  I only bring this up because although this is a Korean sageuk, it involves a Chinese Dynasty.
