This is today, right? Filming in Andong B)

No news yet from C-Minoz? Usually there would be at least some pics even from 1st day of filming right, is it because this is US-produced project so they implement very strict privacy and security in the filming location? Hmmm.

Minoz are busy reading Pachinko because of LMH :relieved:  Pachinko’s sale are soaring :relieved:

I have decided not to read the book beforehand, since there's big possibility the drama adaptation will be different with the book, don't want to spoil the fun

But I can already imagine LMH as this bad guy Hansu, it's just so sexyyyyy :w00t:

Rookie actress Kim Min-ha cast alongside Lee Min-ho in Apple TV+ global series ‘Pachinko’

Upcoming Apple TV+ original series Pachinko has officially revealed its transnational main cast ensemble, which features Korean superstar Lee Min-ho and promising young actress Kim Min-ha.

Pachinko will follow the journey of a Korean family as they migrate to Japan in the early 20th century. While hoping to start again and build new dreams, the family members, together with other major cast of characters, will be faced with racism and stereotypes in the foreign land. The global series is adapted from a best-selling epic historical novel of the same name that renowned Korean-American author Lee Min-jin published in 2017. A year later, Apple Inc. purchased the screen rights for her novel.

Kim Min-ha has signed up to play the teenage version of Sun-ja, the female protagonist in the series. She is a heroic young woman who is driven to draw her own path, both in life and in love. Kim is fairly new in the entertainment industry. She played guest parts in the television series School 2017 (2017) and Partners for Justice (2018) and also widened her acting repertoire by taking on roles in the films After Spring (2018) and Killerswell: Our Space (2019). In her next role, Kim Min-ha is on to begin a momentous chapter in her career.

Lee Min-ho, who is best known for his unparalleled performances in the hit dramas Boys Over Flowers (2009), The Legend of the Blue Sea (2016–2017), and The King: Eternal Monarch (2020), is confirmed to portray Koh Hansu, a man born in Korea who later got adopted into a rich and prominent Japanese family. He built up his own wealth and power through his connections with the yakuza, members of organized crime syndicates originating in Japan. While living an opportunistic lifestyle, Koh Hansu meets Sun-ja and gets involved in a forbidden romantic relationship with her. From then on, he abandons his selfish ideals and uses his massive influence to keep Sun-ja, as well as her family, safe and well.

The trilingual series is also slated to present TV entertainers from different parts of the world: Korean-born American actor Jin Ha (Love Life) will suit up as Solomon, a motivated and charming young man who is forced to deal with his family’s past; Japanese-New Zealand actress Anna Sawai (Giri/Haji) will take on the role of Naomi, a quick-witted career woman who tries to make her way through the male-dominated world of finance; American-based Japanese actor Soji Arai (SHE JANG) will breathe life into Mozasu, a successful businessman and a committed father who is concerned about his son’s future; and Japanese actress Kaho Minami (Love Begins When the Money Ends) will play Etsuko, a dynamic and self-made woman who longs to be reunited with her estranged daughter.

Pachinko is written by its showrunner, Soo Hugh (The Terror, 2018), who also secured rights to the novel through the production company Media Res. It is co-helmed by directors Kogonada (Columbus, 2017) and Justin Chon (Ms. Purple, 2019). Kogonada will direct and executively produce the first four episodes, and Chon will do the same for the other four episodes. The series is set to kick off filming in Korea today, October 26.

Forbes :  Apple’s ‘Pachinko’ Begins Production, Stars Lee Min-Ho

Apple’s international drama series Pachinko kicked off production on October 26 on multiple continents. Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Min Jin Lee, it stars Lee Min-ho (Boys Over Flowers, The Heirs), Jin Ha (Devs, Love Life), Anna Sawai (Fast & Furious 9, Ninja Assassin) and Minha Kim (Call, After Spring), among others.

Pachinko, Min Jin Lee’s second novel, was one of The New York Times ’ 10 best books of 2017 and a finalist for the National Book Award for fiction. Former president Barack Obama also included the novel in his list of book recommendations for 2019, after the novel was suggested to him by a “young staffer” on his team. He praised the book as “a powerful story about resilience and compassion.”

Set in the 20th century, Pachinko follows four generations of a Korean family as they move to Japan, amid the country’s colonization of Korea and other seismic political and cultural shifts. Apple won the rights to the adaptation following a multiple-party bidding war, as first reported in The Hollywood Reporter in August 2018. The series has one of the biggest budgets among Apple’s current slate.

Apple’s series will feature eight episodes, with four episodes directed by the South Korea-born Kogonada, who is known for his video essays on directors like Wes Anderson and Stanley Kubrick and for his debut film Columbus. Another four episodes will be directed by Justin Chon, whose previous work includes Gook (2017) and Ms. Purple (2019). Pachinko will be told in Korean, Japanese and English.

Soo Hugh will executive produce and serve as showrunner. She previously worked as a co-showrunner on The Terror and also contributed to The Killing and Under the Dome. Media Res, helmed by former HBO exec Michael Ellenberg, is producing Pachinko.

Here are the character descriptions for Pachinko:

Lee Min-ho portrays Hansu, an enigmatic outsider and merchant with ties to organized crime who embarks on an illicit romance with far-reaching consequences. Jin Ha has been cast as Solomon, an ambitious, charming young man who will be forced to reckon with his family’s past.

Anna Sawai will play Naomi, a savvy career woman in the male-dominated world of high finance. Minha Kim will play the teenage Sunja, a heroic young woman on the cusp who forges her own path in a hardened country that is not her own. Soji Arai will play Mosazu, a dedicated father and successful businessman, concerned for his son’s future. Kaho Minami will portray Etsuko, a vibrant, independent woman who longs to be reunited with her estranged daughter.

If Minha will play as the teenage Sanju and her name was released alongside the rest of main cast, why didn’t they announce the casting for mature/older Sanju when mature Sanju should supposedly be in the main cast too?

They said "Story start with love story" in a article, probably we just see teenage Sunja with Hansu. Older Sunja tell story viewsers maybe
