INFINITE’s Kim Myung Soo Gets His 1st Chance To Prove Himself As An Accountant In “Numbers”

Jun 24, 2023
by E. Cha
20230624062842_Kim-Myung-Soo-2.jpg?s=900

Will INFINITE’s Kim Myung Soo finally be able to prove his worth on the second episode of “Numbers”?

MBC’s “Numbers” is a suspenseful new revenge drama set against the backdrop of a major accounting firm. In what marks his first acting project since his return from the military, Kim Myung Soo stars as Jang Ho Woo, the first accountant without a college degree to join the prestigious Taeil Accounting Firm.

Spoilers

On the first episode of “Numbers,” Jang Ho Woo succeeded in getting hired at Taeil, the top accounting firm in the nation. However, because of his educational background, the other accountants at the firm looked down on him—and he wound up doing all sorts of menial labor, such as cleaning and making copies, instead of the job for which he’d been hired.

At the end of the episode, the firm’s star accountant Han Seung Jo (Choi Jin Hyuk)—who appeared to be Jang Ho Woo’s polar opposite in every way—approached the rookie accountant and asked him to join his team.

In the next episode of the drama, Jang Ho Woo will finally get his first real task as an accountant. Determined to prove himself, Jang Ho Woo leaps at the opportunity to travel to a small village and visit their community credit union.

Jang Ho Woo wears a cheerful smile as he arrives at the village, holding up an envelope with the Taeil Accounting Firm logo emblazoned on it. In another photo, he brandishes his employee ID in order to prove to the villagers that he’s an accountant—and once he’s verified his identity, he goes about helpfully explaining something to the elderly residents of the village.

Watch: “Numbers” Cast Pulls Off A Funny Prank For The Director’s Birthday In New Making-Of Clip

Jun 24, 2023
by S. Cho
20230624153344_Numbers-6.jpg?s=900x600&e

MBC has shared a making-of clip for the first episode of “Numbers”!

MBC’s “Numbers” is a suspenseful new revenge drama set against the backdrop of a major accounting firm. In what marks his first acting project since his return from the military, INFINITE’s Kim Myung Soo stars as Jang Ho Woo, the first accountant without a college degree to join the prestigious Taeil Accounting Firm.

The clip begins with Jang Ho Woo’s training session, which features several cast members gathered to welcome the newest Taeil Accounting Firm employees. After wrapping up his scene, Kim Myung Soo mouths from across the room, “What are you doing?” It turns out he is talking to former MOMOLAND member Yeonwoo, who is pointing a huge camera in his direction. Eventually, Yeonwoo moves on to try filming with the making-of camera.

When Choi Jin Hyuk and Seo Eun Woo realize Yeonwoo was filming them, she quickly explains, “I didn’t plan it! I was surprised too,” adding that she doesn’t know how to work cameras.

Later, Choi Min Soo appears as Taeil’s vice president Han Je Gyun and shows off his authority and intimidating attitude. Once cameras stop rolling, he returns to his friendly self and recommends nearby restaurants to all the actors on set.

The clip ends with a funny bonus clip of Choi Jin Hyuk and Choi Min Soo holding in their laughter as they prepare to prank their director on his birthday. While everyone is getting ready to wrap up, a loud argument between the two actors can be heard from across the room. Choi Min Soo angrily asks, “Do you even know what day it is today?!” Choi Jin Hyuk answers with just as much rage, “What day is it?!” Choi Min Soo then hilariously concludes, “It’s the director’s birthday!” and calls out the speechless director to the center of the room.

As the cast and crew excitedly celebrate the director’s birthday and the success of the prank, Choi Min Soo jokes, “We’re supposed to act like this [in the drama]!” The director then makes everyone laugh with his naivety as he adds, “I asked for help!”

I don't really understand the accounting stuff, even while watching with another accountant in real life. All I have to say is that cJH is delivering visuals that make me anticipate ep 3.

i knew that L's character was too pushy / eager, and yes he reads all the stuff he was copying :D

let this be a lesson to everyone: printing out stuff leads to leaks!

I enjoyed the first two episodes, even though, like @agenth, I don't understand accounting at all.  Is this the end for Kang Hyun?  At first, I didn't like him and I thought he would agree to cook the books, but I loved that he kept his morals and resigned.  Now his son can continue to be proud of his father.   I was afraid he was going to commit suicide when he was on the roof top.

Numbers: Episodes 1-2

by alathe

Who’s hyped for SPREADSHEETS? I know I am! After learning in the worst way possible how devastating the impact of a single piece of paper can be, our hero embarks on a revenge plot. His method? Fight paper with paper. But when he’s hired at a prestigious accounting firm by the man he once despised, things stop seeming quite so clear-cut…

EPISODES 1-2

We move through our hero’s backstory with the splendid pace of a financial pitch — though with markedly more pathos. JANG HO-WOO (L) is a scrappy orphan with a steely sense of justice. Roaming the streets as a child, he finds a father and defender in the kindhearted JANG IN-HO (Nam Myung-ryul). Of course, like all underdog protagonists, bullies flock to him in their droves. By the time he hits his teens, he’s solved more problems with his bare fists — and racked up more trips to the local police — than he’s had hot dinners in the neighborhood cafeteria.

Alas, one day, a far less punchable problem arises. In-ho works on a building site under Haebit Construction. It’s here that Ho-woo spots a gaggle of immaculately dressed professionals, whispering in arcane code. Copy-paste the values. If we cook this right, no one will notice. Ho-woo doesn’t grasp the implications, but he sure sees the results: Taeil Accountancy Firm declares Haebit bankrupt. Its assets will be liquidated — and the building In-ho toiled over, bulldozed.

Workers throng the construction site, protesting their ruined livelihood. They’re mercilessly beaten down by bat-wielding enforcers. Ho-woo scrambles to defend them. But at a single word from a man in a suit, everyone falls motionless. I detect a charismatic, morally ambiguous second lead! And indeed, this is HAN SEUNG-JO (Choi Jin-hyuk), the person who will come to define Ho-woo’s quest for vengeance. He looms over our defiant protagonist. Accountants, he declares, wield power of life and death over firms. And Haebit Construction? Is an ex-firm. He wouldn’t expect a thug like Ho-woo to understand. But watch, he deadpans, what a single piece of paper can do. That night, Ho-woo races through the construction site in search of his adopted father. He arrives just a little too late. Heartbroken and bankrupt, In-ho has already jumped to his death.

Ho-woo is tortured by grief. He can’t work out why this happened, much less fight it. But of one thing, he’s sure: if you want something done right… infiltrate an accountancy firm yourself. And so, armed with only his high school diploma, our hero faces trial by textbook. To the shock of all, he manages to win a place at Taeil. Turns out that’s only a fraction of the fight. At lightning speed, word spreads that he lacks a university degree. Subsequently, he is shunned. One by one, each new hire is recruited for an enigmatically-titled project: Lion, Zebra, Wolf. Even the woman supposedly running induction, the aloof JIN YEON-AH (Yeonwoo), is reluctant to speak to him for long. So far, the only one who’ll hold his gaze is his sad, empty Excel spreadsheet… and they’ve clocked up hours of face time.

L, Kim Myung-soo and Choi Jin-hyuk in Numbers: Episodes 1-2

Nonetheless, he’s a man on a mission: locate that scoundrel Seung-jo! However, it’s only when he flees to the rooftop to escape the judgmental stares that he finally meets the man who taunted him at his lowest. And that man is flatly unimpressed. Do you think, scoffs Seung-jo, that you’re being ignored because you didn’t go to college? Nobody cares. They’re just looking to make bank. Giving a novice the time of day could damage their profitability evaluation; when one person screws up, the whole team pays. As Ho-woo protests, he’s hit with the cruelest paradox of all. You have a duty to learn, pronounces Seung-jo, but we don’t have a duty to teach you. And then, the knockout blow: I wouldn’t pick you either.

For all his scorn, Seung-jo is hardly the office golden boy. As the son of Taeil’s Vice President, HAN JE-KYUN (Choi Min-soo), he ought to be. However, whilst our dubiously-principled deuteragonist is a dab hand at numbers, he’s got no patience for politics. Or, so he claims. He’s certainly the polar opposite of his charismatic father — affectionately dubbed “Joker” by his colleagues. On paper, Vice President Han is a smooth-talking champion of the underdog. His motto? Noblesse oblige. In other words: the obscenely wealthy should cast a few breadcrumbs to the underprivileged! You know, out of the goodness of their hearts.

Numbers” Cast Is Hard At Work In New Behind-The-Scenes Photos

Jun 28, 2023
by E. Ezeji

MBC drama “Numbers” has shared behind-the-scenes photos of INFINITE’s Kim Myung Soo, Choi Jin Hyuk, Yeonwoo, and Choi Min Soo!

“Numbers,” which marks Kim Myung Soo’s first acting project following his return from the military, is a new drama set against the backdrop of a major accounting firm. In addition to Kim Myung Soo, the drama’s cast includes Choi Jin Hyuk, former MOMOLAND member Yeonwoo, Choi Min Soo, and more.

The newly released photos capture the passionate actors hard at work on the filming set. Their enthusiasm for the drama is evident in the serious expressions on their faces and the way they can’t take their eyes off the script until just before filming begins.

While the actors are hyper-focused and professional in front of the camera, they are also playful and infectiously happy behind the camera. One photo in particular captures the warm and special chemistry between the actors, as Yeonwoo is seen filming with a camera during a break. The brilliant chemistry between Kim Myung Soo, Choi Jin Hyuk, Yeonwoo, and Choi Min Soo, who are all so passionate both on- and off-camera, is what makes “Numbers” so much fun to watch.

Yeonwoo Can’t Take Her Eyes Off INFINITE’s Kim Myung Soo In “Numbers”

Yeonwoo Can’t Take Her Eyes Off INFINITE’s Kim Myung Soo In “Numbers”

Is love in the air on MBC’s “Numbers”?

“Numbers” is a suspenseful new revenge drama set against the backdrop of a major accounting firm. In what marks his first acting project since his return from the military, INFINITE’s Kim Myung Soo (L) stars as Jang Ho Woo, the first accountant without a college degree to join the prestigious Taeil Accounting Firm. Yeonwoo plays Jin Yeon Ah, a cheerful senior associate at the firm who knows a lot about numbers, but has no idea just how scary a place the world can be.

Spoilers

On the first two episodes of “Numbers,” Jang Ho Woo fought to prove himself to the other accountants at his new firm. Faced with a hostile environment in which his colleagues looked down on him because of his educational background, Jang Ho Woo gave viewers a vicarious thrill as he began to shatter their preconceived notions one by one.

However, there was one accountant that treated Jang Ho Woo with respect, without looking down on him: Jin Yeon Ah. As the two accountants repeatedly ran into one another by coincidence, they started to become particularly close.

In newly released stills from the drama’s upcoming third episode, Jin Yeon Ah adorably can’t seem to stop paying attention to Jang Ho Woo. Even amidst the hectic chaos of the busy firm, Jin Yeon Ah has a hard time taking her eyes off the rookie accountant as she goes about her work.

An accountant who doesn't believe in numbers

Ho-woo (Kim Myung-soo) and Seung-jo (Choi Jin-hyeok)'s efforts to normalize Soma-tech are in danger of being ruined by the appearance of those who want to take over Soma-tech.

At this rate, the decision to liquidate Somatech is a natural step.

Ho-woo and Seung-jo, who have become sensitive because they can't find the right answer, come into conflict as they check each other's views on accountant work.

“Haven’t you already forgotten how my dad and the company turned out?”

“We both have different objectives, but our goals are the same.”

Two people joining hands to see the same result

Is oppa the sole reason you are watching this drama? :D

@CarolynH @booha @Ameera Ali @larus @joccu I just marathoned through the first 4 episodes of this drama. At first, I was like, "how can they make accounting interesting?"

boring-wait.gif

But as the drama progressed, I found that the writer had actually written it in a way that actually made it quite fun to watch. Am not an accountant, but I do understand a lot of the terminology and how accounting works.

The way the drama is written overall, it's quite fast paced and has nice twists and turns. Ep 4 was soooo sooooo good, though! Best episode so far.

I love that Ji Soo is back - she's gonna shake up the game for sure!

Who else believes that Jang Ho Woo is related somehow to someone else in Taeil? Or that someone at Taeil has a connection with Ho Woo's parents? He can't remember his past at all, but someone at Taeil is for sure missing or knows someone who is missing a son or a brother. Somehow I feel that VP Han Jae Kyun is responsible for Ho Woo becoming an orphan...

It would be fun if Han Seung Jo and Jang Ho Woo turned out to be brothers (maybe Ho Woo is the product of VP's mistress - after all, VP didn't even attend his wife's funeral - surely it's not far fetched that he had a side piece?). Or it could be Shim Hyung Woo (both have "Woo" in their names)?

But my theory for now is that VP messed with Ho Woo's parents back when he was an accountant, and that they committed suicide or were killed as a result of that. Ho Woo is deeply traumatized - hence his lack of memories. Whatever happened, it must have been bad.
