Love is for Suckers: Episodes 1-2

by Dramaddictally

LIFS12_1.jpg

Yeeeesss! Lee Da-hee and Choi Siwon star in the new ENA rom-com Love is for Suckers and it’s everything I was hoping for! We’ve got two grown-up characters dealing with adult problems of love and life (using more than a little adult humor). While we watch our leads go from friends to lovers, these episodes already guaranteed a whole lotta humor and heartache in between. With this premise and pairing, was there any way they weren’t going to pull it off?

EPISODES 1-2 WEECAP

What a great premiere! When I heard this drama had a working English title of Icy Cold Romance I expected it to take a lot longer for things to heat up between the leads. Luckily: not the case! We’ve already gone from a fake date to a cliffhanger kiss — do these two even need the reality show setup to bring them together? Nope. But hopefully it’s going to be a lot of push-and-pull fun.

We open in the present, where PD GOO YEO-REUM (Lee Da-hee) is working on a reality show called Kingdom of Love 2. When she arrives on set, a series of “brides and grooms” are being photographed for the show’s finale. We know from online comments that it’s rumored one of the couple’s is a real-life couple who will be married by the show’s end. Among the tuxedoed men is PARK JAE-HOON (Choi Siwon), who locks eyes with Yeo-reum as the clock winds back.

We start our story in a recent past where Yeo-reum and Jae-hoon are long-time best friends living as neighbors. These premiere episodes do a good job establishing their relationship, which makes them seem like a married couple who’s skipped right by dating each other. He’ll pick up food for her on the way home, but she’s nagging and persistent for him to do it. At the same time, he’s also her support system when things go wrong.

Yeo-reum has a few things going wrong at the moment. First, she’s sort of seeing the host of one of her variety shows. He’s “The Ramen Chef” JOHN JANG (Park Yeon-woo) and he’s six years younger than her. When we first see them together, he’s already breaking up with her. She was sure he wanted to meet up because things were progressing, but Jae-hoon had already bet her she was about to be dumped.

When Jae-hoon is right, she complains to him over chicken feet and soju and he tells her she needs to play it “cooler” in these kinds of fling relationships. He teases her and the tone is very much between people that have known each other forever.

Love is for Suckers Episodes 1-2

Yeo-reum’s second problem is that her show, The Ramen Chef, has the worst ratings on the network and is about to be canceled. They’ve already lost ramen sponsorship and had their production costs cut. Her competitor, KANG CHAE-RI (Jo Soo-hyang), has the highest rated show, Kingdom of Love. However, Chae-ri plays dirty to get the high ratings — or, maybe I should say, shows the dirtiest footage. One of the charms here, though, is watching the drama spoof reality shows with hilarious success (“octopus mukbang” — that’s as far as I’ll go.)

While on a shoot at the seaside, Yeo-reum overhears Chef John telling a co-worker that he could have slept with her but wasn’t curious enough to want to. Also, he likes dating older women because they’re more cost effective (they don’t ask for much). Yeo-reum asks Jae-hoon to come to the shoot dressed nicely and to bring her flowers. She wants to look like she’s moved on.

But, being the prankster that he is, Jae-hoon shows up in sweats and sandals trying to embarrass her. Unfortunately, she’s embarrassed enough, having just crawled onto a mudflat to rescue a drone that had that day’s footage.

New stills from the new drama series “Love is for Suckers” have been released!

“Love is for Suckers” is a romantic comedy series that tells the story of Goo Yeo Reum (Lee Da Hee) and Park Jae Hoon (Super Junior’s Choi Siwon), best friends for 20 years who partake in a dating reality show as a producer and contestant, respectively, and the unexpected romantic feelings they begin to feel for one another as their time on the show goes on.

Spoilers

In episode 2, Goo Yeo Reum and Park Jae Hoon had quite a hilarious time as they set up a mosquito net, ending up unintentionally having a very “adult” conversation that ended in the two of them bursting out into laughter. After setting up the mosquito net and managing to catch a mosquito that had gotten in, the episode ended with the two of them falling onto the bed very close to one another, causing quite the reaction from viewers.

After hastily scrambling away from one another following the accidental display of physical affection, the two try to feign innocence over the whole matter, only to end up falling into a fit of laughter once again.

While all of this certainly makes for some funny and amusing moments, viewers can’t help but be curious as to what might have happened if the two had instead addressed the incident properly.

I am really into Lee Dahee and Choi Siwon's chemistry in this drama and I wish there was more hype to this drama and more people will talk or have discussions about it. The ratings have been consistent so far and I hope it will continue to go up even it's baby steps. The storyline is nothing new but the chemistry makes it really worth watching.

Ugh, why did she rush into the wedding like this?

It is clear that she is more after the idea of a marriage and babies, instead of actually finding love.

Wanna bet that woman who came from New York is his girlfriend? Is she preggers?

The kiss between Siwon and Lee Da Hee could have been longer though... hehe

Lee Da Hee, Choi Siwon, And More Are At A Loss For Words With The Latest Twist In “Love Is For Suckers”

New stills detailing a shocking turn of events in “Love is for Suckers” have been released!

“Love is for Suckers” is a romantic comedy series that tells the story of two best friends, Goo Yeo Reum (Lee Da Hee) and Park Jae Hoon (Super Junior’s Choi Siwon). Their friendship of 20 years takes a dramatic turn when they partake in a dating reality show as a producer and contestant, developing feelings for one another along the way.

Spoilers

In a previous episode, the characters were caught up in a whirlwind of a wedding. Goo Yeo Reum was supposed to be getting married to her boyfriend Kim In Woo (Song Jong Ho), who she had broken up with once before. But the day originally meant to be a day of celebration for the couple dissolves into a disaster after Goo Yeo Reum announces her breakup at the venue.

A clearly shaken up Goo Yeo Reum makes her way towards the exit and soon comes face to face with her best friend Park Jae Hoon. She takes time to comfort her parents, who are in just as much shock as she is. Watching from afar with worried looks are her friends and coworkers, Park Dae Sik (Min Jin Woong), Oh Hye Jin (No Susanna), Kang Chae Ri (Jo Soo Hyang), and Kim Sang Woo (Lee Dae Hwi).

Eventually, Goo Yeo Reum leaves the chaos behind and finds herself alone, in her wedding dress, on the street. With no strength left to stand, she crouches down and mourns. When Park Jae Hoon catches up to her, he puts his jacket over her shoulders. At this point, two questions arise. Goo Yeo Reum and Kim In Woo went through so much to get back together, so what led them to call the wedding off, mere minutes before the ceremony? Additionally, where did Kim In Woo disappear off to?

While the story itself is taking a dark turn for the time being, the cast thoroughly enjoyed the rare time they all got to be on set at the same time together. Their teamwork especially shone through with pulling off the intricate scenes related to the emotional wedding ceremony.

The next episode of “Love is for Suckers” will air on Wednesday, October 19 at 9 p.m. KST.

Love is for Suckers: Episodes 3-4

by Dramaddictally

https://www.dramabeans.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/LIFS34_1.jpg

If this drama hasn’t already made you a sucker, I don’t know what to say. I love it! We turn down the humor just a tad this week and take a more melancholic tone. But the theme of late-30s love continues strong with a relatable heroine who wants it all, and finally feels like she just might get it. If you’re looking for realistic 30s dilemmas, unrealistically good-looking friends to lovers, or Choi Siwon in board shorts, you’ve found your match.

EPISODES 3-4 WEECAP

To pick up where we left off, the kiss does not happen (except in Jae-hoon’s head, but we’ll get to that later). However, the absent kiss gives us a lot of information about how our leads truly feel about each other. Yeo-reum puckers right up, ready to go for it, while Jae-hoon gets himself out of there immediately (he’s too tempted). Both are kicking themselves in the morning at how awkward they’ve made everything, as they try to act normal.

No matter how awkward things may seem, Jae-hoon is still the first person Yeo-reum calls when her father is rushed to the hospital. But Jae-hoon is with a patient and can’t pick up, so Yeo-reum starts to leave on her own. As luck (or total creepiness) would have it, In-woo is outside her house and offers to drive the few hours to Chuncheon so she can be with her parents. When Jae-hoon sees his missed calls, he has no hesitation in calling back, but Yeo-reum is too tied up by then to answer.

When her dad is in stable condition, Yeo-reum and In-woo drive back to Seoul and get a few things off their chests. In-woo apologizes for the way he left three years ago and Yeo-reum says it’s no one’s fault, and that they were both very emotional. He says he’s regretted it ever since, and Yeo-reum surely seems more relaxed with him than she did before.

When they arrive to her house, Jae-hoon watches from upstairs as In-woo comes in at 1AM for ramen (but, like, real ramen). Clearly jealous, Jae-hoon starts making as much noise as possible, dropping dumbbells, vacuuming, dancing to hip-hop — and succeeds in disturbing a kiss before it occurs. Prior to all the racket, In-woo had just been telling Yeo-reum that he’s watched all her shows, and he hasn’t gotten over her.

When In-woo finally leaves, Yeo-reum marches upstairs to ask Jae-hoon what the hell he’s doing and also gets a chance to tell him about her father being in the hospital. Jae-hoon turns serious fast and apologizes for not being able to take her call earlier. The next day, he calls her parents, sends them lunchboxes, and speaks to her dad’s doctor to make sure all is okay. He also wants to contribute toward the hospital bill. Jae-hoon tells Yeo-reum all this when he’s called her over to put potato slices on his sunburned back and their awkwardness dissolves into aegyo. It seems for a moment that things are back to normal between them.

After the night she almost kissed In-woo, Yeo-reum gets excited about the prospect of seeing him again — squeeing with her friend about it at a jjimjilbang — and not even mentioning the almost-kiss with Jae-hoon. She says she likes the familiarity with In-woo and feels like it’s been forever since anyone looked at her like that. Her friend encourages her to get back with In-woo, while secretly plotting to get her and Jae-hoon together by pressing Jae-hoon to confess. Jae-hoon admits he has feelings for Yeo-reum sometimes but it’s not enough to act on.

Wow, am really struggling to get through the latest episodes of this drama. Have been watching ep 6 for 3 days now. :brokenheart:

I really love the chemistry between Siwon and Da Hee, but the plot itself is a bit all over the place.

Love is for Suckers: Episodes 5-6

by Dramaddictally

LIFS56_1.jpg

Buckets of tears this week when the wedding is called off and we see inside the hearts of our two battered-by-life leads. The way to move on is to get back to work — and, in this case, to ask your best friend to come to work with you. Kingdom of Love 2 is finally underway and we get the pandemonium of a show within a show, bringing with it a series of staged surprises, as well as a few real ones.

EPISODES 5-6 WEECAP

As we surmised, the woman from New York who only appeared in the blink of a frame last week has come with upsetting news. She’s pregnant and In-woo is the father. Yeo-reum learns this ten minutes before the wedding ceremony and confronts In-woo immediately. He only found out a few days ago himself and was “too shocked” to tell her. He planned to tell her after the wedding. Yeo-reum exclaims that he should have told her as soon as he found out — and the echo of three years ago is all around her. Here he goes again, withholding life-altering information.

Yeo-reum refuses to marry him. He tries to change her mind, saying that their parents are there, and everything is already in motion — they can figure it all out afterward. (I am hating him with every thread of my being. Not because of the pregnancy, but because he’s so manipulative.) Yeo-reum says no, not even to save face. She can’t trust him and she won’t go through with it.

She walks out of the wedding hall in her dress and Jae-hoon follows her to the street, putting his coat around her, and getting his car to drive her away from it all. He’s such a good friend, he doesn’t ask any questions except, “Where should we go?” She only wants to disappear, and so, he thinks of a place he knows out by the beach, where one of his former patients owns a lodge. It seems that Jae-hoon went to stay there himself after his father passed away, not letting anyone know where he was for three months.

At the beach, Yeo-reum gets support from both Jae-hoon and the lodge owner, who tells Yeo-reum about the hardships in her own life — including the aneurism that Jae-hoon saved her from back when he was still practicing as a neurosurgeon. We learn in this episode that after his father’s death, he quit the hospital and retreated into a depressed state, confining himself inside, not wanting to see daylight or other people. It’s Yeo-reum who helps him come back to life by asking him to move into the apartment above hers, checking on him every day, sharing food with him, and trying to make him smile. She’s the one who opens the blinds and becomes a literal life saver.

Love is for Suckers Episodes 5-6

Now the tables have turned and Jae-hoon knows how she feels when she asks, “Can someone be this humiliated and still go on living like nothing happened?” He tries to lower the pressure, saying she didn’t do anything wrong. But Yeo-reum blames herself for rushing the wedding and believing that she knew In-woo. Jae-hoon sticks up for her: “You trusted someone who treated you with sincerity. Don’t blame yourself for the sincerity you saw in him.”

Yeo-reum remains in a state of shock and Jae-hoon goes on caring for her, getting her to eat the way she did for him two years earlier. When she goes into their rented room and finds him sleeping against the wall in his suit, the look on her face says she’s seeing him, maybe for the first time, as a man.

Love is for Suckers Episodes 5-6

The next day, Jae-hoon tells Yeo-reum they should go home. He hid for too long after his tragedy and couldn’t ever get back to his old life. She’s braver than him and he doesn’t want her to make the same mistake. Yeo-reum agrees, she doesn’t want to dwell on it. And frankly neither do I, because we’ve got to talk about work. Last week, so much happened that I had to cut the parts about Kingdom of Love. The short story is that Yeo-reum is now working under Chae-ri on the show’s second season and she’s brought her whole staff with her. Her task is to rein in Chae-ri while helping to make this season a success.

The shoot is scheduled to start the day after the wedding (so, today) and Yeo-reum jumps into her work. When she turns her phone back on, she finds out that one cast member didn’t show up — the plastic surgeon. Hmm, know any plastic surgeons that can replace him in three hours? Well, Chae-ri does. She was once Jae-hoon’s patient (when she got hit in the face as payback for airing a cast member naked and fighting). When Chae-ri saw Jae-hoon again at Yeo-reum’s wedding, she already had him in mind for the show. She tells Yeo-reum to bring him in as a replacement or her entire team is fired.

Choi Siwon, Lee Ju Yeon, And More Can’t Resist The Charms Of A Modern Dating Reality Show In “Love Is For Suckers”

Spoilers

The newly released stills show the contestants of the second season for the hit dating reality show “Kingdom of Love” finally coming out of their shells. This is especially the case for the female contestants as they get fired up for a round of the traditional Korean game “chicken fight”!

In a previous episode of “Love is for Suckers,” “Kingdom of Love” finally premiered and rose straight to the top spot in viewership ratings. This only makes sense considering the perfect lineup of contestants, provocative scenes like introductions in bathing suits and a pool party in undergarments, and intriguing elements in the narrative like having the contestants get drenched in water.

love-is-for-suckers1.jpg

Following the male contestants playing a round of traditional Korean wrestling (ssireum) topless, the female contestants are revving up for a game of chicken fight. Even Han Ji Yeon (Lee Ju Yeon), who is known as the calm and intellectual one, gets so into the game and makes everyone laugh with her dramatic response to losing. At one point, it gets so intense that Park Jae Hoon even covers his mouth in shock.

One of the stills captures the moment when John Jang (Park Yeon Woo) runs onto the playing field and shows his toned arms to a fallen female contestant. How will this chaotic scene filled with screams and shouts come to a conclusion? Who will win the one and only voucher to go on a date?
