Did anyone catch what Chan Young's illness is?  Did I miss it?

Chanyoung was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.   :bawling:

Her death is the start of the drama I guess, dealing with loss,  reminiscing the memories.

I like the drama, the trio friendship but I can’t with the rs of Chanyoung & Seokjin.

Son Ye-jin made viewers cry with a fiery ending.

The second episode of JTBC's Wednesday-Thursday drama 'Thirty, Nine', aired on the 17th, recorded 5.1% (based on paid households in the Nielsen Korea metropolitan area), a 0.9p increase compared to the previous broadcast, breaking its own record.

On this day's broadcast, the pink romance between Cha Mi-jo (Son Ye-jin) and Kim Seon-woo (Yeon Woo-jin) started in earnest, while Cha Mi-jo's heartbreaking ending when she found out the results of Jeong Chan-yeong (Jeon Mi-do)'s health checkup gave a heartbreaking ending.

First, the appearance of Cha Mi-jo, who started a new meeting, and Jeong Chan-young, who is having a painful breakup, led to strong immersion from the start. While Kim Seon-woo's sincerity that he was not under the sway of temporary emotions last night made Cha Mi-jo flutter, Jeong Chan-young's tears were drenched in tears because of Kim Jin-seok (Lee Moo-saeng), who announced the breakup but couldn't even hold on to it.

Cha Mi-jo and Jeong Chan-young, who met through different experiences than usual, shared their special day, sympathizing with the pain of parting, looking forward to a new beginning. As if she had cried when she cried, “This sister ... can you heal the pain of ordeal with your beginning?” The appearance of Jeong Chan-young, writhing with excitement, made the viewers shiver, but soon made her burst into laughter.
On the other hand, Jang Joo-hee (Kim Ji-hyun) also sensed a pink air current. She was very dissatisfied that a Chinese restaurant Chinatown had opened in her regular Nogari house, but she felt a strange feeling at the kindness of Park Hyeon-jun (Lee Tae-hwan), the president of Chinatown.

Park Hyeon-jun only delayed her deadline to reflect the opinion of her local resident Jang Joo-hee that it would be 'closed early', but this instilled a small sense of anticipation in her as a single mother.

The three friends, from Mi-Jo Cha, who got to work with Seon-Woo Kim, who she thought would end as a one-night relationship, Chan-Young Jeong, who is breaking up with an old love, and Joo-Hee Jang, who has a person who keeps worrying about her, were spending their 39-year-old peacefully.

In particular, Cha Mi-jo not only was drawn to Kim Seon-woo, who actively expresses his feelings, but also told his brother's story that he had asked for his resignation, and also told a deep story that he was not good to others. The scene where she, who said that the night she spent together was an 'accident', corrected this and smiled, saying, “It was a very strange day,” suggesting that Kim Seon-woo is establishing herself as a special person for her as well.

The mood of the play changed 180 degrees when Cha Mi-jo, who was bursting with laughter due to Kim Seon-woo's confession, accidentally received a call from a senior. Chan-Young Jeong's condition was not very good during her medical check-up with her friends. She went to the hospital of her senior, possessed by something, and found out that Chan-Young Jeong had additional tests after the examination and that her days were short.

Cha Mi-jo was shaken by the unbelievable fact. Her emotions, not knowing who to tell her, where to go to her, surrounded her. The first place Mijo of this car went to was the office of Chan-young Jeong's ex-lover Jin-seok Kim, "I'm going to kill you ... I will ... I will kill you."

At that moment, the portrait of Chan-Young Jeong was revealed, and it was finally revealed that the main character of the funeral in episode 1 was Chan-Young Jeong. As she wept, “It’s because of you, it’s because of me,” she was full of her guilt for making her Jung Chan-young look into her Kim Jin-seok’s eyes and her resentment toward Kim Jin-seok who made it difficult for her.

Seeing all this, Seon-woo Kim fell on the floor and held the hand of Mi-jo Cha, who was crying, and the heart-wrenching curtain came down.

@EK8

Nope, not yet. They probably will reveal it in later ep. hopefully.

Sonograms are normally for the pelvic, abdomen regions. So she probably has a tumor in those areas. 'Cause it's stage 4, it's progressive & not lookin' all too promising ..

This sort of remind me of Song Hye Kyo's bestie? The mom who suffers from cancer in "Now We're Breaking Up".

‘Thirty-Nine’ Episode 2 Recap: Son Ye Jin Breaks Down After Hearing Her Friend’s Impending Death

by Changhyun Kim about 8 hours ago

In its premiere, JTBC’s Thirty-Nine has surprised the viewers by broadcasting a funeral scene of one of its main characters. The second episode revealed the deceased for whom the funeral was held.

The latest episode began with Cha Mi Jo (Son Ye Jin) preparing for a 1-year sabbatical. She tries to consider Kim Seon Woo (Yeon Woo Jin) as a substitute doctor for her clinic, nothing more or nothing less. After making her mind, she gets a medical check-up with Jeong Chan Young and Jang Joo Hee (Kim Ji Hyun) in preparation for leaving the country. However, nothing goes as planned for Cha Mi Jo.

After constantly crossing paths with Kim Seon Woo, she ends up telling him the emotions she felt as she grew up as an adopted child, which she had kept as a secret until now. In return, Kim Seon Woo confesses his feelings towards her, acting as if he will wait for her until she comes back after her sabbatical year.

Another misfortune follows Cha Mi Jo when she receives the check-up results. She cries in shock when she hears that one of her friends has stage-four cancer.

Soon, Cha Mi Jo visits Kim Jin Seok (Lee Moo Saeng). She lets out her resentment at him, who had kept a lukewarm affair with Jeong Chan Young. This indicated that Jeong Chan Young was the one who faced an impending end to her life.

Later on, the drama confirmed the death of Jeong Chan Young, showing a portrait of the deceased. The teaser for the upcoming episode revealed that she had stage-four pancreatic cancer.

39’ Is A Drama About Love And The Safe Haven Of Female Friendship

Three women link arms on a sunny day surrounded by bubbles.
Son Ye-jin, Jeon Mi-do and Kim Ji-hyun play best[+] NETFLIX

The characters played by Son Ye-jin, Jeon Mi-do and Kim Ji-hyun in the drama 39 have been friends since they met in high school. They’ve been through a lot together, sharing tears and laughter, enjoying tasty meals and copious amounts of beer and soju, while consoling and encouraging each other. The friendship centers their lives and filters everything else that happens to them. That includes the choices they make when it comes to romance.

Son’s character Cha Mi-jo is a dermatologist and Jeon’s character Jung Chan-Young is an acting coach, while Kim’s character, Jang Joo-hee, sells cosmetics. They are generally happy with their lives and careers, but none of them have a satisfying, long-term romantic relationship, let alone a hint of a marital commitment.

Mi-jo doesn’t date, nor does Joo-hee, while Chan-young has spent a decade pining over a married man who will never leave his wife. Mi-jo relentlessly nags Chan-young to exit a relationship without a future. Yet she’s also hesitant to embark on a future with the man she meets just before turning 40.

Her potential life partner arrives in the form of Sun-u, played by Yeon Woo-jin. He’s a doctor, he’s kind, he’s handsome and he volunteers at an orphanage, which pretty much qualifies him as the leading man in any romance. But Mi-jo hesitates. There are issues she has not dealt with in her past, having been safely cocooned in her friendship with Chan-young and Joo-hee.

All three women are ready for a change but that doesn’t mean they’re prepared for the changes that lie ahead or the feelings those changes will engender.

39 looks to be more than a simple romance as it explores the bonds of friendship and issues that affect emotional intimacy, such as childhood abandonment. At its core is the satisfying warmth of a solid friendship that will hopefully buffer the worst of life’s changes.

Son is well known for her roles in romantic dramas, having starred in the hit series Crash Landing On You and Something In The Rain. Jeon was last seen in Hospital Playlist and Hospital Playlist 2. Kim appeared in Artificial City and Hometown Cha-cha-cha. Yeon appeared in the drama Search and can be seen this year in the film Serve The People. The JTBC drama also stars Lee Moo-saeng and Lee Tae-hwan. It airs on Netflix.

Watch: Son Ye Jin, Jeon Mi Do, And Kim Ji Hyun Show Professionalism And Dedication While Filming “Thirty-Nine”

dummy.jpeg?s=900x600&e=t

JTBC has uploaded a new making video for “Thirty-Nine”!

“Thirty-Nine” stars Son Ye JinJeon Mi Do, and Kim Ji Hyun as three friends who met in their second year of high school and are now on the verge of turning 40. Son Ye Jin plays Cha Mi Jo, the head dermatologist of a clinic in Gangnam. Jeon Mi Do takes the role of Jung Chan Young, an acting teacher who previously dreamed of becoming an actress, and Kim Ji Hyun stars as Jang Joo Hee, a department store cosmetics manager.

The clip starts with the trio’s scene at the police station. Although they’re only running through rehearsals, the actresses show their professionalism by remaining serious throughout practice and while monitoring the scene.

Next, the three actresses gather outdoors to film the scene at the orphanage. Son Ye Jin takes interest in a child actor’s toy and asks, “What’s this stuffed animal? Is it your favorite stuffed animal?” When he says yes, she continues, “But why is your favorite stuffed animal so new? Has it not been long since it became your favorite?” Son Ye Jin then asks whether the toy is a prop and a staff member hilariously clears up the confusion as he explains, “It’s just product placement.”

At night, Son Ye Jin, Jeon Mi Do, and Kim Ji Hyun are at a bar, and while waiting for shooting to officially begin, they discuss the upcoming scene. Before they film, Son Ye Jin and Jeon Mi Do have a serious conversation with the director as they clarify the mood, direction, and intention of the scene. To get a proper feel, the trio dive into rehearsals and then impressively film the scene without any mistakes.
