5 Facts About the Latest Pachinko Korean Drama Starring Lee Min Ho

Annisa A | Haybunda

FKQljIpX0AMMNWh?format=jpg&name=900x900

Jakarta. Soon fans of Lee Min Ho will see his latest work "Pachinko". This handsome man will return to the small screen after a long absence from Korean dramas.
Pachinko is the latest Korean drama on Apple TV+ to air on March 25. This series is made in the genre of drama and two well-known directors are working on it.

The Korean drama "Pachinko" is an adaptation of the novel "Mother". Based on the same title, the novel is a popular work by Korean-American writer Min Jin Lee.

The novel, published in 2017, received an offer a year later to be shown as a television series. The series, which aired in 2021, had to be rescheduled to March 2022.

Here are five facts about the Korean drama Pachinko played by Lee Min Ho:

1. The action takes place in Japan and the United States.

The Korean drama "Pachinko" tells the story of an immigrant family who moved from Korea to Japan. This series explores a complex issue in the middle of a long and hopeful journey.

Not only Japan, this series also has a backstory of the United States, which is one of the important points in the characters' journey.

The Korean drama Pachinko, told in the early 90s, will bring a classic atmosphere. In the teaser shared, Lee Min Ho and the other players were seen wearing clothes that looked old.

The old school impression is enhanced by the beautiful cinematic acting and gives a retro feel. In the first teaser for Korean drama 'Pachinko', Lee Min Ho looks stylish in a shirt and suspenders. He looked at actress Kim Min Ha who seemed to be crying.

Kim Min Ha seems to be the exact opposite of Lee Min Ho. She plays the main character named Sunja. In her novel, Sunja is a woman from Busan who is told she has two children with different fathers.

The Korean drama Pachinko also marks the return of Lee Min Ho to the small screen.

2. The return of Lee Min Ho

Who doesn't know Lee Min Ho? Immerse yourself in the world of acting since 2003, he has played various roles in Korean movies and dramas.
Lee Min Ho hasn't been in a Korean drama for two years. He returned in the Korean drama Pachinko, which will be airing soon.

“I was very excited when I was cast in this Korean drama. It's been a long time since I auditioned and it would be a shame if I failed. I worked hard to get this role," he said, quoting Soompi.

3. The role of Lee Min Ho

In the Korean drama Pachinko, he played a lead role named Ko Hansoo. In the original novel, Ko Hansoo is described as a Korean who is adopted by a wealthy family in Japan.

He makes connections with many people in order to earn money and control everything. It is also said that Hansu had a wife in Japan.

However, he meets Sunja in Korea and falls in love with her. He then uses his power to protect Sunya and her immigrant family.

The Korean drama Pachinko also starred other famous artists. The series is directed by two famous directors.

4. Director from Hollywood

In addition to Lee Min Ho and Kim Min Ha, the Korean drama “Pachinko” will also feature Korean and Japanese artists. These are Yoon Yoo Jung, Anna Sawai, Jung In Ji, Jin Ha, Soji Arai, Minami Kaho, No Sang Hyun, Han Jun Woo, Jung Eun Chae and many others.
Pachinko is also a collaboration between two directors, Kogonad and Justin Chon. Both were in the Hollywood film industry.

Konogada released American films called Columbus and After Yang. Meanwhile, Justin Chong is more likely to direct series such as Dr. Ken, Deception, Dramaworld and Sin City Saints.

Justin Chon is also known as an actor who has appeared in over 20 films including Twilight. Saga", "21 and Over" and "Heartbeat".

5. Not the first Apple TV+ drama

'This' that Lee Min Ho boasted about is inevitable... 'Spending 100 billion won to catch Netflix'

A still from the drama "Pachinko Season 1", which actor Lee Min Ho posted on his social network. Apple TV+ has confirmed the March 25 release date for the first season of Pachinko.

[Herald Business = reporter Hong Seung Hee] "Apple TV+ doesn't live up to its name... Will my ambition work?"

The second Korean Apple TV+ content is coming soon. This is an ambitious film that Apple has invested 100 billion won in production. There is growing interest as to whether Apple TV+, which cannot overcome the home market wall of online video platforms (OTT) dominated by Netflix, even with a low subscription fee of 6,500 won, will show its presence with this content.

According to the industry, on the 28th, Apple TV+ announced the airing date of the second Korean work "Pachinko Season 1" through promotional channels such as social networking services (SNS). This work, an original drama starring actor Lee Min Ho, is set to release on March 25.

When footage of the cast was also released, including actress Yoon Yeo Jung, who won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, the actors bragged about it. Actor Lee Min Ho uploaded a still from 'Pachinko' that he appeared on his SNS and left a message saying 'Hi Hansoo', implying that he took on the role of 'Hansoo' in the play. Actress Jung Eun Chae, who co-starred with her, also shared the post on Apple TV+ on her social media.

According to Jinhae Jin, a researcher at Hanwha Investment & Securities, the total production value of Pachinko Season 1 is known to exceed 100 billion won. Based on an American bestseller, this drama contains an epic about Korean immigrant families spanning four generations (1910-1989) from the Japanese colonial period to later. The production is overseen by "Media Reds" from the USA.

The monthly subscription fee for Apple TV+ is 6,500 won, which is cheaper than Netflix and Disney Plus, but domestic OTT users neglect it. This is because applications (apps) can only be downloaded via Apple devices. It can be used as a basic set-top box in cooperation with domestic SK Broadband (IPTV), but it is still estimated to be unavailable to Android device users. The high price of separately purchased set-top boxes in the 200,000 won range is also considered a barrier to entry.

The lack of Korean content is also a mountain to overcome. Simultaneously with the domestic landing, "Doctor Brain" starring Lee Sung Gyun was released, which generated high expectations but did not do much at the box office. The industry expects more intense overseas OTT competition in the first half of the year as Netflix plans to produce 800 billion won worth of original content in Korea this year alone, and Disney Plus also releases Korean dramas back-to-back.

This Pachinko seems to be running aggressive ads

2022.01.30

First of all, I'm a subscriber who is really looking forward to the Pachinko drama, and I don't know the details about Lee Min Ho (sorry..)

I'm half worried about promoting Pachinko, but first of all, Kogonoda has a good direction and the original is a really good work, so I think I'll actively promote it.

ㅇㅇㅇ was also a leading Korean actor, but Lee Min Ho is popular and has a huge impact and Apple attaches great importance to his awards history, so he included it in promotions (including actor ㅇㅇj, who won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress)

FKUPpmtWQAIwR_L?format=png&name=900x900

The main picture of the KDRAMA Reddit subreddit, the world's largest community centered in North America (the subreddit has about 300,000 subscribers), is about the same as Lee Min Ho's.

back to the point

There are two reasons why Apple TV+ wasn't promoted in Korea.

The main reason for sluggish subscribers is Corona 19. Apple just announced the launch of the service, and the content could not be delivered on time due to the pandemic.

Secondly, Apple did not actively promote it, because it is not trying to compete with Netflix, but is trying to create an insular effect in the Apple One ecosystem (data plan, including Apple Music), filling it with quality content. works of art. Because I thought I could only attract existing clients)

ㅇㅇㅇㅇ is a Korean drama with an investment of 50 billion won.

Pachinko is a mid that took 100 billion won to create.

However, since they are "Apple" which is known for having hundreds of trillions of cash in hand, they spend money on a different level as they are expected to work.

In fact, some dramas spend 50 billion won per episode. Even if the amount of investment in content increases by several trillion every year, the money is flowing over the edge.

That's why it's expected

So, I think we will do a lot more promotions than at the beginning of the launch!

Lee Min Ho Performs As A Stylish Villain Ahead Of Long-Awaited Pachinko Premiere

By Daniel Kucher -January 30, 20220

Lee-Min-Ho.jpg

Since last January 27, Lee Min Ho and the Apple TV + platform have begun to show the first previews and the world premiere date of Pachinko on the platform scheduled for March 25 of this year. The series will be told in three languages: Korean, Japanese, and English, and will debut with the first three episodes followed by new weekly installments every Friday, during its eight-episode run through April 29, 2022.

The new official images of Lee Min Ho show him in some scenes impersonating Hansu, a powerful and mysterious man secretly related to the Yakuza (Japanese mafia) who arrives in a Korean coastal town as a fish merchant, who will have a great weight in the narration since it will be the trigger for the whole story that will come later in Pachinko.

Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by famed Korean American writer Min Jin Lee, Pachinko stars Soji Arai as “Mozasu”; Jin Ha as “Solomon”; Inji Jeong as “Yangjin”; Kim Min Ha as “teenager Sunja”; Lee Minho as “Hansu”; Kaho Minami as “Etsuko”; Steve Sanghyun Noh as “Isak”; Anna Sawai as “Naomi”; Han Jun Woo as “Yoseb”; Jung Eun Chae as “Young Kyunghee”; Jimmi Simpson as “Tom Andrews”; Jeon Yu Na as “the young Sunja”; and award-winning actress Youn Yuh Jung as “Senior Sunja.”

The most recent official images present Lee Min Ho in the new role that outlines him more as an elegant villain very different from the Prince Charming of K-Dramas that his fans were accustomed to seeing throughout the successful artistic career of he. The first official poster that has caught the attention of Lee Min Ho’s followers shows him together with Kim Min Ha as the couple who lives a tragic romance whose consequences will mark the life of a family for more than 40 years.

About this new work, some curiosities emerged that curiously relate Lee Min Ho to his latest K-Drama The King: Eternal Monarch, first of all as many know because his former co-star Jung Eun Chae will also participate in Pachinko, who in this Opportunity will play Kyung Hee, Yoseb’s wife and Sunja’s sister-in-law. But the most charming anecdote occurred this January 27, when Min Ho welcomed his character by symbolically greeting him on his Instagram account and the interaction he had with his other former co-star and friend, the actor Woo Do Hwan.

Fans of the artist hadn’t finished celebrating when he posted his photo dressed in a spotless white suit in a Pachinko scene in which he wrote, “Hello Hansu,” when a few minutes later Woo Do Hwan left a comment showing applause emojis. After pinning the message from his friend, Lee Min Ho joked accusing him of spending too much time on social media, when he should be busy filming the Netflix production Hunting Dogs, of which the young performer is a part.

“Do Hwan-ah, aren’t you recording? You are on Instagram every day.

To which Woo Do Hwan replied, “I will come often.”

Reasons why 'Pachinko' could change Lee Min Ho's career

01/31/2022

HHT - "Pachinko" is a special film that promises to change Lee Min Ho's career, taking the actor to a new level of success, although he is now also very successful and famous.

Deep and shocking content

Pachinko is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Korean-American writer Lee Min-jeong. The story is set in the 20th century, depicting the story of a Korean family living in Japan amidst the upheavals of history. They have a pachinko shop, an arcade game in Japan that is often seen as a gaming device.

Pachinko has a gripping and poignant story about forbidden love, depicting an unforgettable chronicle of war, peace, love and separation. The characters of Pachinko must endure life and psychological upheavals as they have to live in a strange place, between the passages of time and history, leaving a strong emotional resonance for those who love them. Read this novel.

Rich in plot, fast-paced and poignant, Pachinko's novel was a bestseller and one of the 10 Best Books of 2017 by The New York Times.

Lee Min Ho - Not only handsome

In 2020, after being discharged from the army, Lee Min Ho returned to the small screen with the drama The King: Eternal Monarch. Although it still has a strong backing, The Immortal King was, as expected, not a very successful project. Therefore, even more interested in the success or failure of Pachinko - the next series.

Outstanding in appearance, there is no shortage of iconic work, but Lee Min Ho's acting has always garnered mixed opinions about him playing in one color and lacking sophistication. There are also some comments that this is the right and necessary time for Lee Min Ho to transform into more psychologically difficult and harsh roles.

Therefore, Pachinko is an even more suitable test.

Lee Min Ho's "Pachinko" look in some of the photos shows that he is still handsome without a dead center, but is masculine and shows a completely different charm than before. This caused a stir among viewers, especially those who love Lee Min Ho.

The role of Lee Min Ho in "Pachinko" is a character who has to go through many stages of a person's life, from a young man to an old man. So it's a challenge for Lee Min Ho because he's going to have to show a lot of the character's psychological changes depending on age and the ups and downs in life.

The film was in the center of attention of the audience from the stage of production, casting to the premiere.

With Pachinko, Lee Min-ho begins to work with a multi-national team, a Hollywood-level production team, the film features veterans and famous actors from Korea, Japan... Yes Among them, veteran actress Yoon Yoo-jeong, who won the prestigious Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, Anna Sawai is the new Asian pink shadow that impressed the famous Japanese actress "Fast and the Furious 9" Kaho Minami's version also plays a charismatic role...

The film was filmed during a stressful epidemic outbreak not only in Korea. In addition to Busan (Korea), Lee Min Ho also flew to Vancouver (Canada) in February 2021 to record some essential scenes of the film. However, looking at some of the footage from the film, it is clear that every effort has been made.

Pachinko is a collaboration between different artists. Director Kogonada directed and produced four episodes. American director Justin is responsible for the other four episodes. It's unclear which episodes the two directors will be directing, but it keeps viewers curious and expects variety and appeal, as well as drama quality.
