1. [+134, -52] I thought Uncontrollably Fond got 3~4% ratings because I heard it flopped but its average rating was 9%? It's more than descent. Moon Lovers got 11% max. If this is accurate, the hate Suzy and IU got was more than necessary.

SEOUL, Dec. 29 (Korea Bizwire) – South Korea’s top actress Song Hye-kyo has donated the compensation money she won from a recent publicity rights case to help aspiring jewelry designers, a local charity said Thursday. 

The heroine of a number of hit television series including most recently “Descendants of the Sun,” delivered a total of 150 million won (US$124,000) to the Beautiful Foundation on Wednesday, according to the non-profit organization. 

“(Song) asked us to use the donation fund to support young prospective jewelry designers,” an official from the foundation said. 

The bulk of the sum came from damages she won from a jewelrymaker which used her image from the drama series without permission. The donation also includes some of her private wealth. 

The Beautiful Foundation was founded by Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon and other civic and legal leaders in 2000. 

Eight months ago, Song was locked in a legal feud with jewelrymaker J.ESTINA over images of her from the series being used for commercial purposes. 

In refuting the claims, the jeweler claimed that as one of the TV show’s sponsors, it had the right to use Song’s image in advertising and publicly disclosed their copy of the sponsorship contract. However, Song’s agency countered that J.ESTINA was not entitled to the right to freely use the captured images and edited video clips of the television series without the actress’ permission.

Song Hye Kyo donates the money she received in damages from legal case against 'J.ESTINA'

Song Hye Kyo has kept her promise.

The actress donated 150,000,000 KRW (~$124,357 USD) to 'Beautiful Foundation' on December 28. The money was won from a legal battle against 'J.ESTINA,' who was alleged to have used Song Hye Kyo's images illegally.

According to their website, the 'Beautiful Foundation' conducts research, surveys, and educational programs to aid the burgeoning philanthropic culture to take root in Korean society. A staff member from 'Beautiful Foundation' thanked Song Hye Kyo and said, "She wanted the money to be used for underprivileged design students." (ME: I salute your generosity and your BIG HEART for the needy!)

The court case started last April when the jewelry brand was found using the actress' photos as a part of their marketing campaign illegally. J.ESTINA had an agreement with 'Descendants of the Sun' which allowed for the use of images and media from the series for advertisement. However, J.ESTINA used Song Hye Kyo's image and video outside of the drama without her permission. During the court proceedings, Song Hye Kyo had stated that when she wins the compensation, she would use it to help budding designers. 

The court case recently closed with the Seoul Central Court's suggested amount of damages, which the jewelry brand agreed to pay and the actress accepted.
